Very grateful for your tutorial! I'm not a native English speaker, but your video is so easy to understand for me!
Glad it was helpful!
When seed grown this cactus naturally has a skinny base, which is able to support the thicker growth above. Ones with thick bases were grown from cuttings. ~ I love the photos of this species in habitat in Mexico. 12 feet tall and 15 feet wide! The cultivars, crest, etc. of this guy are also so cool.
I’ve often had success rooting cactus and succulent cuttings by just sticking them into the soil, but the extra steps, like letting the cut end dry and applying cinnamon and/or rooting powder, can’t hurt, and they may help.
thanks for your helpful tutorial😃
I rooted my small fairy castle cactus cutting in about 6 to 7 weeks with just air dry to callous the wound for about 2 to 3 days then replant in cactus soil mix and daily light misting of top layer of soil 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for making this video. I am so glad that you posted this video just in case I have the same problem. Wonderful video Ana!
Merry Christmas Ana, I use your rooting method and it's given me good results all the time, I wouldn't change the method, it works. Great video.
Very nice and informative video! I've learnt how to propagate by the pops or how to induce thepops. Thanks for sharing and happy growing. 😊
My absolute fav UA-cam girl u like cactus n coffee as much as I do I so enjoy your videos keep up girl.dont stop giving us good info and tips you rock!!!
Thank you. 🙂
Thanks for showing the results. I'm so glad you made this video and the one where you first took the initial cuttings. I have a geometrizans that I want to cut in the spring and your videos are great guides.😊👍
Your welcome and thanks for stopping by. Good luck to you! ☺️🌵☕️
I always love your vids Anna, and you have the most BOSS coffee mugs.
What a great video...soft background music...clearly spoken directions...and good information. Thanks! Tim in Colorado
I love that you are using the tongs! Genius!! Great instruction Ana!
Tongs are very handy, especially for cactus with glochids! Thanks for stopping by! 😉
This video is shot and sweet, and got all information about propagation, watering etc. While propagation I have already rotted few of my cactus by over watering. This time i will follow this tips. Thanks
Your videos are so helpful! Can’t wait to propagate my very tall and top heavy cactus now. Using tongs is a great tip.
If you have a large cactus, you can hold it safely with two pieces of styrofoam. It protects you and is good to minimize damage to the cactus.
An old lady told me if you need to move and repot a large heavy cactus, you can use two pieces of styrofoam to handle it safely. good video Ana. I have been using your cinnamon idea and have some pups and cutting doing well, thanks.
Good to know! Thanks. 🙂
I like your video. I'm thinking male and female cuts. That is probably the only explanation for that result from the roots! IJS 🥰
WoW!!! Love the results! I'm so excited to get mine started! 🤗
Good luck! ☺️
Its so pleasing to see positive results 😀
It is very fulfilling. ☺️ Happy gardening!
They look a great size and developed roots fast 👌🏻😊👍🏻🌵🎄
Very nice and informative video! I've learnt how to propagate by the pops or how to induce the pops. Thanks for sharing and happy growing.
Very helpful! Thank you for making this video.
I hope this pair of plants are still doing well,
Thanks again for a great vid, Bill.
Very well explained. Good to see the results. Ty
Merry Christmas 🎄
A blessed Christmas to you as well! 🌵☕️🎄🙂
Merry Christmas!! Thanks for sharing. Your always so inspiring.
Thanks for posting this. I am moving and had no idea what to do with my beloved cactus. I have to cut off a really large arm and now I can do it!!
Lovely coffee , Great Roots
Merry Christmas to you and thanks for the great videos you have shared this year. And also the feedback on my projects!
i loved this video with RESULTS! thank you! 🖤
Thank you for watching
Thanks for this great video. Just got a piece of damaged columnar cactus from a neighbor & cut off damaged part but not at a joint. I watched this & I’m going to follow this simple video & I’m hoping it will work the same for me. It seems super easy.
Well Ana , to start with , you have done a very fine job of showing the whole process of taking cuttings, potting up& what the roots look like when they come on. The only thing I've ever done differently is to just barely place the end into the soil and stake the cutting so it won't fall over with bamboo stakes. I just do this to keep the cut end from having too much moisture around the base. The method you have shown getting the stumps to produce offsets is also a great way to produce grafting stocks! Great and very informative video Ana!!!Great knowledge to share with your viewers!!!! Thanks for sharing with us all!!! From Morris park in the Ozarks, out to Las Vegas, have a great evening!!!!! Happy holidays to you and yours!!! Peace,Love,Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌸🌴🌷🌲🌻🌳🌺
Oh my gosh, Clyde! You read my mind. I was actually thinking of using this to experiment with grafts later on. I like your method too of just barely putting them in the soil. Others where there is high humidity, they just leave them out and they root in the air! 😄 Thanks for sharing your tip, Clyde. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Excellent and informative 👏🏾. TFS.
❤ another helpful, excellent video. Thank you much.
Glad it was helpful!
Hello Anna just wanted to thank you for your this video i wasn't sure if rooting powder was a good idea to use on cactus 🌵🌱 but from your results I'd say yes but yes thank you once again and looking forward to your new content have an amazing year and a blessed Monday from California to Nevada many blessings your way
Thank you, cheers! 🙂🌵☕️
Very helpful. Thanks from Bangladesh. ❤❤
Great results Ana, they rooted well. I’ve not rooted any columnar cacti before but had good success rooting other types. I’ll be doing an update video in the spring on that Gymno and Aloe I had to cut the roots off of because of root mealies. Thank you for sharing with us as always Ana, from Edith & myself, have a wonderful day and Merry Christmas 😊🌵☀️🌼🌺🎄☕️
Oh that would be interesting to watch. 😃 Yes, I got lucky they rooted as I started with the process a bit late into the season. I hope they don’t mind me bothering their roots despite it being winter. 🤞
Merry Christmas, Daz!
This is a FANTASTIC video Ana :-D and very informative on how to root Columnar cactus offsets, and wonderful that you have shown the success with the rooting too, thanks so much for sharing, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and PLANT POWER to Las Vegas for a wonderful day XXXX

Thanks for the video.
Very helpful thank you🤩🤩🤩💜💜
They are so cute 💖
Excellent!
Nice result
Thanks Marian! ... your seeds are on their way!
Thank you so much, I (think) have a Saguaro Cactus in my home, it looks like your typical Cactus you see in cartoons :) I've been terrified of taking a couple of limbs off as they are colliding with others and it looks crowded. Having watched a few online tutorials I didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling but having watched yours I feel confident enough to tackle this now and the thought of having some mini-me Cactus growing along side papa Cactus sounds great.
Don't need a warm fuzzy feeling to propagate cacti. Cut, wait 2 weeks to dry (maybe put yellow sulphur on while wet), and then dip in water before SPRINKLING hormone rooting powder on, plant 3 or 4 inches deep if it's big with a stake, DON'T water, wait a week and the only spritz around the base. Job done. Of course LATER when it has roots it gets more water.
I will be making my first attempt this week! Thankyou for the info.
Best of luck!
All went well, thankyou for the advice 😁@@CactusCaffeine
Very awesome 👍
Thank you.
Awesome, thank you!
Salamat Po !
This was a PERFECT video for my needs - :)
I’m glad it helps you. Cheers! 😊☕️🌵
Thanks for sharing 🌵❤️🙏🏽
You are welcome and thank you for watching.
Thank you!
It’s not recommended to dip a plant cutting directly into the jar of rooting powder. Instead, pour out a small amount of powder and dip your cutting in that. Don’t put any leftover powder back in the jar. The reason is that moisture from the plant can cause the rooting hormone to degrade. Light also degrades the hormone. So store the rooting powder in a sealed jar in a dark, dry place. Also, after dipping a cutting, shake off any excess powder. More rooting powder is not better.
It says all this in the instructions on my jar of rooting hormone powder, but I’ve seen the same advice in a number of other sources.
Thank you for that information. 😃 I will keep that in mind. 🌵☕️
Good to know, but the jar is only like $5… Easy to replace next time you want to propagate a plant
Merry Christmas Anna .. I’m here in Vegas right now 😀🌵
Enjoy! Merry Christmas! 🎄

Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 Ana
Aww, thank you. A blessed holiday season to you as well! 🎄🎁😉
I remember the first video. Glad these are doing well. I like Myrtilocactus. I think I have one and have the same problem. The bottom is too skinny. Scary to cut it but I think I have to.
Some say you don’t have too. You can simply stake it later on. I guess it is just for aesthetics. 😉
hapi new year po❤ thank you for sharing your video🙏 God Bless po🙏🙏🙏
Salamat Renita and Happy New Year din po!
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas Ken, from Vegas to Japan!
These Blue Myrtles root like crazy, I had a tip sitting for 3 months. Pulled it a week ago and the root system was massivee
Real cool
Hi ana merry christmas sa iyo at sa familya mo,from pasay city ,phil.
Merry Christmas din, po! Happy noche buena. ☕️😋🥘🧆🍗
just uploaded my cactus propagation video...hope you appreciate the effort..I admire your efforts...
Thanks
This plant is very beautiful I bought it mistakenly thinking it was San Pedro but I love it and can't wait to see it in 10 years haha it will be huge
Lol! I know. It’s a decade wait at least. 😄
@chu Harry I wasn't looking for it for psychoactive properties, I was more looking for San Pedro as its a plant I would like to add to my collection
So cool 💚🌵Did you re pot them in the same sized containers after looking at the roots in the end?
TY so much, I love your channel and your great tips and tricks! sub 4 life :)
Thank you ☺️ 🌵☕️
Merry christmas po sa inyo🌲
Merry Christmas din Vilma. Miss ko na ang puto-bumbong! 😫😄😋🎄🎁
Thanks 😄
Thank you for posting this excellent video. I btoke off 2 pups from my Easter Lily Cactus (Echinopsis oxygona), let them dry out for 5 days, and put them in a small pot together. I just potted them a few minutes ago, literally. I was wondering if I should use rooting powder. Now that I have seen you use it, I will buy some and try it out on 2 other very small pups that I've seen on the same parent plant. Thank you so much, I have seen your videos in the past and I do learn from them.
Wonderful! Thank you for appreciating my videos. Cheers! 😊☕️🌵
Wonderful roots in those two cacti!😃👌. I don't have any columnar as big to do that but is good to know for the future. I believe you refer to the pruin (latin term: Pruina, pl. Pruinae) talking about the farina or white substance that cover the epicuticulae of cacti. Not sure if I used the right term in english, I put the latin scientific terms. Have a nice day!😘💕☮️🌵🌺🤗
Ah! Pruina or epicitular wax. Thank you for that info, Vane!
@@CactusCaffeine You're welcome, my dear friend 😘 ☺️💕!
Hi thank you for the content, so for the entire 11 weeks that it took to root these offsets was it in the shade
new sub here 👋 love ur channel 🌵
Thank you and welcome. Thanks for the visit. 😃🌵☕️
Very nice Ana. Are all rooting powder the same? Merry Christmas to you and your family ❤️❤️❤️
So far among the brands that I’ve used , they all work the same. I also get the same result with just cinnamon. 😉 Merry Christmas to you as well! 🎄😃
I am wondering if you could also show us some ways on how to graft a cactus :)
You can see the amount of growth that they have put on by the "V" shaped lines at the top of the stalk. anything above the "V" is NEW growth.
I'm trying to save a cactus now. Is there some type of special soil that I should be using or should I just stick it next to the existing Cactus already in a pot
Thanks for the cinnamon idea don't have rooting powder right now just starting out I've heard after planning you leave 3 weeks before watering San Pedro any way true or not
It is always best not to water right away after planting. The wait depends on how big your cutting/plant is and your weather. I usually wait 3 days up to a week.
Ciao e complimenti per i tuoi video non me ne perdo nemmeno uno!!
Volevo chiederti; se quando facciamo delle nuove piante tramite i polloni, poi quando fioriranno se possibile impollinare tra loro? Grazie
Hello If I just stick my cuttings in the dirt will it still root?
Hello Ann, can I don't use root hormone after calloused the offsets ??????
Try turface MVP for your soil. It drains like it’s going threw air yet it holds 3-4 times its weight in water. It’s easeyist to water by submerging it in (pot not full plant) water let it sit for roughly 4-5 minutes. Then let it rain it lets air to the roots as well.. I had Chester crostata that loved it. Watered when I dug down a inch to see how it was doling. It gets darker when it’s wet an lighter as the water is being used. Give it a try
Thank you for your suggestion! 🙂👍🏼
Do you recommend any rooting hormone brand the best?
Okay to wait for roots to form before planting in the small pot?
How long does it take for the cactus to regrow after propagation?
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Have you ever tried cloning gels instead of powders? Or would that be counterproductive to the cut drying out?
I’ve never heard of cloning gels. I will look them up. Thank you! ☺️
Wow! I love how blue and dark green they are! Do u have any cuttings or rooted ones for sale? I would love to make a purchase from you
I’m sorry, I don’t have any for sale. I hope you find one soon:
@@CactusCaffeine do u know of any online vendors to purchase them from?
Can you tell me how often it should be watered?
Great video but I have a question, what happens to mother plant after you take the offsets? Do they continue to give off more offsets or do they grow on their own?
Thank you! They will continue to give off offsets while they can. But they will not grow anymore since the growing point at the top was already cut off. 🙂
@@CactusCaffeine thank you
Your welcome. Happy growing. 😃
Hi anna can i just let it calus before potting it if i do not have rooting hormones
Definitely! I’ve rooted many cacti without any rooting powder. You can even just use cinnamon, it will help too. Rooting powder just speeds up the process but for cactus, it is really not necessary. 🙂
What kind of soil do you recommend?
Hi Anna, Question, I had to cut off my Echinopsis Rose Quarts and now having to re-root. After letting it callus, I set it on top of the soil and supported the cactus with tooth picks to hold it upright. Should I have buried a small portion of it in the soil instead of letting it sit on top? It's been a bout 2 months and no roots yet. However, it is growing a bud.
2 months is a little too long to not have roots yet. You can bury it a little and support it with rocks. Mist the top of the soil to encourage rooting.
@@CactusCaffeine Thank you Anna, I tested the little guy today and BEHOLD, ROOTS! I think he's going to make it.
Great!
Whistle while you work that da way mon lol
How often is watering for this stage? You said when its dry, so every few days?
Go very sparingly, once every two weeks is better if there are no roots yet. If the soil is soaked all the time it will rot the cactus.
