@@CactusCaffeineoh snap... the seeds i talked about might have come from a mountain not far from LV. My wife asked me to stop on the side of 15 snd try to get red barrel seeds. I bet you already know all about this. Lol 🤠
The first cactus I’ve ever grown from seed actually came from one of my sister’s Starbucks dragonfruit drinks. The germination rate wasn’t great, but if you’re able to collect a bunch of them, it is possible (if you’re lucky) to get a dragonfruit plant to grow. It took about an entire month before it sprouted (probably because the dragonfruit for the drinks was originally freeze dried?) and only one seed out of ~30 actually emerged through the soil. But when it did sprout, I was very excited! Cacti and succulents in general are by far my favorite plants to grow 😊
About a month since it first appeared through the soil, it is now about an inch tall with maybe 5-7 sets of tiny hair-like spines. It’s doing great, but will definitely be quite a while before I’m able to get any fruit from it. I’ve heard they take several years, 6-10 in some cases, to become mature enough to flower and fruit when grown from seed

I used your method to start Astrophytum asteria super kabuto seeds with great trepidation as it was my first time. Besides your techniques, I used a heat pad in the evenings. I probably should have started to sow with a small sample of these designer cactus seeds but went all in with my 70 seeds I recently purchased on Etsy. Well, I just saw that the seeds are starting to germinate after five days! So excited and thank you for the beginners guide! I looked at many YT videos and yours was simple, easy, and thorough in explaining the process for me in the states (CA). Yay! What a relief! On to the next steps. Just a tip for anyone trying to grow seeds. You can definitely pull them out of humidity whenever its required (fungus, rot, mass damping off). Common myth is that they need to adjust to low humidity. I pull mine out right after they germinate and i have over 95% survival rate.

Excellent and informative video. Thank you! I'm only trying to grow actual seedlings now. Perhaps I will try from seed next. According to your video, I think my seedlings (2yrs old slow growing Discocactus) will be better uncovered and in my windowsill over the summer. I have them in Akadama and it will help me know when to water next. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for this video. I've tried unsuccessfully growing cacti from seeds like 3 times and I couldn't figure out why. I could only gather bits and pieces from other videos and blogs, but your guide was so in depth that I am going to give it another go. Thank you again, much appreciated.
Hi Ana. I would just like to thank you for this very informative video. I sowed my Melocactus seeds by following the steps that you showed here, and after around 2 weeks I saw through the plastic bag that there are some sprouts already. Thanks Ana.
It's hard to come to terms with the fact that cactus seedlings need to start under almost the same conditions as orchids seedings, but there it is. I guess what happens in nature is that when it rains in the desert, water and seeds get washed down into sandy pockets BETWEEN ROCKS which take four months to dry out. So for the first few months, the seedlings are in a really moist environment.
What a great video, thank you! I'm about to try growing cactus from seed for the first time and your instructions were very clear - I'm looking forward to trying this and viewing your other videos.
Wow what a great video. I have tried twice now growing cactus and it wasn't your way. I have cactus fruit so fingers crossed I can grow my own from watching your videos. Thank you for taking the time to show everyone ❤
Thank you. Really useful. About to start growing my own but had no idea where to begin. I have the right compost etc to state but had no idea they needed so much warmth so I'll hold off until spring
I really appreciate the tips on dealing with the fungus gnats. I never thought to use crumbled up mosquito dunks. btw: mosquito dunks are rated organic. I've always dusted the top of my soil with diatomaceous earth. It creates a barrier that kills the gnats if they try to cross it. it then washes down into the soil and gets the larvae. Sprinkle some more on top.
Hi Ana! I made a cup of decaffeinated coffee with almond milk specially to see this video😜, that is just on time for me to my fist cactus spring sowing. Thank you so much, I have been disappointed by the vast majority of seed's that I have tried to start this way!! So, I guessed, that perhaps it was the seed. This is an awesome and comprehensive video for growing up cactus seeds, and brilliant when you have good seeds. . Totally the best way to start with seeds, well, I bought from a different company, and YAY!! Success!! Thank You so Much, now I have my beautiful Cactus 🌵 the other company kept telling me that I was going about this the wrong way,,,, Turns out they'd been selling me seed's from Coleus plants, that were dead already!!🤷🤦🤷🤷!🌵 Btw, I spent a lot of money on the seeds, and I had to pay for a specialist to look at the seeds from the 1st company, Oh well ... Supreme suprise was that I had also got chipped plastic in one packet, not just a few, but the Whole lot!! Actually laughed so hard I put my back out, when I realized I had been "nurturing" tiny chips of plastic!!🤣 (*The Company is now defunct!!) Grateful Thanks from a Happy Gardener,(with bad eyesight!!)💞XxX🌵 Ps, Sorry for my English, is not my first language. ...XxX...
Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry that happened to you. But I love your sense of humor and how you can look back and laugh at it. 😄 That company deserves to be out of business. I’m happy that you finally had success sowing cactus seeds. Hope they grow well for you! 😊🌵☕️

Or is there something else I should be doing with that species? Thank you
Thank you so much for this video! You went into such great detail & talked about stuff that I've wondered about but hadn't yet seen in any other vids. You have been incredibly helpful & I thank you so much!
I sowed a whole package of cacti seeds a few weeks (February 2024) ago and I have sprouts! I used little pots, thoroughly wet the growing medium (store purchased cactus soil) and put the pots in a clear covered container that previously contained pastries. I placed the container in my garden window that faces south. The window receives full and some filtered sun. I did not use a heat mat. I live in Chicago, IL so that gives you an idea of how cold it can be in February. The indoor house temp has been 67 degrees F. There has been a lot of moisture build-up in the clear container. Stupid me opened it today to take a peek. The soil is still very wet so hopefully I will see condensation form again on the inside. Anyway, I think the whole process of these seeds requiring lots of moisture and filtered sun is odd because that growing condition is completely opposite of the outside desert environment. Has anyone on this board tried sowing the seeds and mimicking the natural environment?

Oh my that is brrr cold.🥶 I hope all your plants will be well. Thank you for watching this video Clyde. Even though I know you are no beginner when it comes to seed sowing. 😉 By the way, how long does it take for Euphorbia seeds to germinate? Mine has been close to a month and still none germinated. Euphorbia obesa x Euphorbia snowflake.
Best growing video out there
Thank you so much for this video. I've tried unsuccessfully growing cacti from seeds like 3 times and I couldn't figure out why. I could only gather bits and pieces from other videos and blogs, but your guide was so in depth that I am going to give it another go. Thank you again, much appreciated.
Thank you for your feedback and I wish you better luck the next time you do another round of sowing cactus seeds. 🙂
Used this vid to start my first 🌵🌵. Worked great! Came back to learn how to transplant them 🙂 Thank you for the info!
I’m glad it helps you. More power on your seed sowing! 🙂
Cactus seedlings are the cutest. This is a very informative video, thank you!
Hi Ana. I would just like to thank you for this very informative video. I sowed my Melocactus seeds by following the steps that you showed here, and after around 2 weeks I saw through the plastic bag that there are some sprouts already. Thanks Ana.
Oh, that’s great! I’m happy to hear that it worked for you as well. Hope they continue to grow well with you.
Good explanation! 😃👍🏼
Good luck and enjoy the hobby,
I really appreciate the tips on dealing with the fungus gnats.
Growing for second time in many years. Tyvm for all information.😊
Wonderful!
Wonderful. I liked this a lot. This is basically what I do with my seedlings. You've raised some nice baby cactus.
Thanks Des. 😊
I love this video!! You were very thorough and I learned a lot! I look forward to your future content!!
Thank you so much. Keep in touch! 😊🌵🌸
Thank you Ana, you have inspired me to try to grow cactus from seeds.
Wow. I have sewed cactus seed before and I still learned a ton. Thanks so much.
This is really useful. I had no idea about the bag or sterilising the soil, makes complete sense though thanks
Great advice !. Thank YOU very much, for this video.
Hi Ana! I made a cup of decaffeinated coffee with almond milk specially to see this video😜, that is just on time for me to my fist cactus spring sowing. I always learn a lot with you vídeos and even managed myself to have some seeds from my Mammillaria and Gymnocalycium. So now I will follow your advice again☺️, and I hope next year I will have more cacti. Thank you! 💕💕💕☮️🌺🌵
Oh, how exciting. Good luck to you Vanessa. Show us pics in your Instagram. 😉

Thanks Ana, I collected some seeds from one of cactus last summer. I plan to plant them sometime in March. I really appreciate your advice from this video!
Oh, I wish you luck when you sow them. I hope they grow well for you.
@@CactusCaffeine I'll let you know. Thanks
Hey Ana I checked on my seeds today and they're sprouting!!!!!!! I'm so excited. I plan to leave them in the bag for 4 months like you said. Thank you so much for all your advice.
Excellent video. Very clear n methodical. Thank you.
Thank you so much in detail
Given to is us the growing of Cactus seed I am going to try it
Best of luck, but most of all, enjoy! 😊
Very informative. I have a barrel cactus that has seeds. I attempted to grow them with 100% failure. Not as straightforward as I thought!! Thank you for this. I’m excited to try agaib
I failed my first attempt to sow cactus seeds, too! I bought a cactus growing kit and followed the box’s instructions and none germinated. 😆 They just need extra help germinating in cultivation. Good luck! 👍🏼 😉
Thank you so much, I have been disappointed by the vast majority of seed's that I have tried to start this way!!
So, I guessed, that perhaps it was the seed.
This is an awesome and comprehensive video for growing up cactus seeds, and brilliant when you have good seeds. .
Totally the best way to start with seeds, well,
I bought from a different company, and YAY!! Success!!
Thank You so Much, now I have my beautiful Cactus 🌵 the other company kept telling me that I was going about this the wrong way,,,,
Turns out they'd been selling me seed's from Coleus plants, that were dead already!!🤷🤦🤷🤷!🌵
Btw, I spent a lot of money on the seeds, and I had to pay for a specialist to look at the seeds from the 1st company,
Oh well ... Supreme suprise was that I had also got chipped plastic in one packet, not just a few, but the Whole lot!!
Actually laughed so hard I put my back out,
when I realized I had been "nurturing" tiny chips of plastic!!🤣
(*The Company is now defunct!!)
Grateful Thanks from a Happy Gardener,(with bad eyesight!!)💞XxX🌵
Ps, Sorry for my English, is not my first language. ...XxX...
Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry that happened to you. But I love your sense of humor and how you can look back and laugh at it. 😄 That company deserves to be out of business. I’m happy that you finally had success sowing cactus seeds. Hope they grow well for you! 😊🌵☕️
Absolutely BRILLIANT video Ana :-D its so much fun or I should say 'SOW; much fun haha to grow Cactus from Seed, its so rewarding and wonderful to watch them grow over the weeks and months and years, this video is fantastic and so very detailed, I LOVE it, thanks so much for sharing all of this AMAZING info for cactus seed sowing beginners, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and PLANT POWER to Las Vegas for a wonderful new week ahead XXXXX
Lol on “sow” much fun. 😁 Yes it is so fun and when the seedlings grow to adult size and flowers, the sense of accomplishment is greater than just buying a grown cactus. Thank you Lyn, for your support. Cheers from Vegas to the Emerald Isle!
Excellent and very informative video. Also very inspiring and I would say that the tips and tricks can be applied for other seeds than cactusas well. Your voiceover is extremely cute too :D
Thanks for the posting of this video.
Thank you. ☺️
Explain clearly, the best one, there are many on UA-cam, but none of them as good as yours, keep doing, thumbs up.
Thank you. I’m glad you like the video. 🙂🌵☕️
I've been growing about a year and I have to say your video was amazing great for beginners.
Thank you. 😀
Very inspirational video! So detailed and well-explained. I'll try it with Pilosocereus fulvilanatus seeds. Please keep making great content! ❤️🌵
Thank you and good luck! 👍🏼
Great video! I am getting ready to plant some seeds now. I needed this!
Great! Good luck. 🌵👍🏼
Thanks for the video. I have FINALLY had my first cactus seedlings spring up from seeds. It has been about two years of trial and many errors before I got my babies to grow. I am excited to try these methods on future cactii. Special mention should go to the giant saguaro - wo, mama! 💗🌵
Congratulations! It is exciting watching them grow. Enjoy the process. There are challenges but it is a very rewarding hobby. 😉🌵☕️
absolutely inspiration I'm a beginner, 👍👍
Thank you for sharing this video. It's very informative for us growers.
Very informative and easy to follow tips 👍🏾Thanks for sharing😁❤️🇨🇦
I thoroughly enjoyed your tutorial. I am very inspired by your method of growing cactus from seeds. I was once told that growing cactus from seeds is a very slow process as they take years to develop. And so i was discouraged and was never interested in growing cactus from seeds. After watching your video, i am definitely going to source some seeds and try this procedure. Thank you so much for imparting this knowledge. This leaves me so excited, i can't wait to grow my very own cacti. Cheers to you from Precious Blooms👍😁
Oh, I hope you’ll give them a go. 😃 It intimidated me at first too but once I tried it, I just kept going. 😉 I’m not sure but I think this is easier than growing orchids from seed? 🤔 Thank you for visiting my channel. ☺️
@@CactusCaffeine i visited Unusualseeds.net website and i was blown away with the huge variety of seeds available. I am definitely going to explore this process. And yes, it is most definitely much easier to grow cacti from seeds than orchids 😁. I will continue to watch and learn from your channel as you continue to educate us. Cheers from Precious Blooms👍💐😊
This has inspired me to try growing from seed. Patience is a virtue! Thank you for sharing a very informative and clear video!
Your welcome and thank you for watching this video. I hope you will give it a try at some point. Good luck! 👍🏼 🌵🙂
❤ Love your video. I've been having terrible luck growing my seeds.
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully this video can give you some success. ☺️
I recently picked a prickly pear fruit near where I live (tempe, az) and I recovered the seeds and I’m letting them dry out right now. I am wanting to plant some to add a native to Arizona cacti to my collection. Would the method you showed us in the video be the same I should do with my seeds? Or is there something else I should be doing with that species? Thank you
Someone on the r/cactus subreddit recommended your video Anna. Thank you so much!!!
Great video. I'm trying to grow cacti from seed and I'm having challenges. I will see where it takes me. If I fail, I'm going to try your method.
It took me awhile too to get the method that works for me. Even up to now, I keep discovering new ways to improve it. Good luck! 🙂
Really amazing video
I enjoy and learn how to grow
New friend best wishes from Pakistan
I like the results of them
Thank you so much for this video! You went into such great detail & talked about stuff that I've wondered about but hadn't yet seen in any other vids. You have been incredibly helpful & I thank you so much!
Thank you. I appreciate your kind words. 😃
Tank you Anna. Have a nice good cup of coffee.
😃
Very good video, I have no several seed varieties on the go, guess I need to be patient.
Thank you for sharing your video very amazed this is the first time I am watching one of your video have a blessed day
Thank you for taking time to watch my video. Have a blessed day as well and cheers! ☺️🌵☕️
