- A live Geordie performance on Pop '75, a music program that aired in West Germany from 1974 to 1979 and originally broadcast on the SWR and HR networks.
This is the best thing I'll see all week. This is literally the first time I've seen pre-AC/DC Brian Johnson perform. It's so great.
Same here. One look at my profile pic Brian, and you will know how I feel about AC/DC. His AC/DC voice is extraordinary, but hearing him just flat out SING is crazy. He is actually even better than I ever realized. Soulful rock voice
VERY interesting. . .
Same
me too
Now don't you think it would be a fun surprise if AC⚡DC performed this in their next tour...because it ain't too bad actually, clean sound, catchy, cheesy, poppy...so very '70's.
Wow, Brian Johnson can sing without destroying his voice.
Hear his House of the Rising Sun. Brian is the best
His voice is destroyed now check out him singing back in black with the foo fighters 6 month ago 😖
@@tomschroder8576 he sounded like a freakin' devil
@@fireball8767 his voice is still great for a guy of his age....
@@rohnakp2396 check out when he tried to sing back in black 6 months ago with the foo fighters & then see if you still have the same opinion
i want to see Brian sing like this again,
That voice is long gone
brian faking his voice since 1981
Not possible for him to sound like this. That ACDC voice is whiskey bent and hellbound. And that must have been the age of the sexy male neckerchife. Brian was inspired by Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. He's sporting the oompa loompa doo that all the gels looved.
Ya got a time machine cuz that's the only way you'll hear him sing like that again 😏
@@miketheheartbreakkidvitale1783 beam me up Scotty
the hair, the lip-syncing, the sock in the pants.....gold!
You misspelled cock
@@mikepants35 haha!
Lip-syncing? That's his real voice!.
@@moneyguy2008 That's not what he meant.
@@fivestring65ify Oh. What did he mean then?
Wow the actual non squeezed vocal of Brain! Absolutely phenomenal
Several years, he did an interview where he was asked about if he hd regretted his choice of vocal style. I don’t recall his exact wording, but he did admit that it was somewhat - taxing, perhaps.
Brain?
*Brian
I prefer the squeezed vocal of Pinky over this of Brain
Wow, this is wild! Brian isn't shrieking! He's actually got a "regular" singing voice and it's quite good. I don't think he's ever sang like this in AC/DC. And I'm not knocking Brian's AC/DC singing at all. He's awesome -- that's why we're all here, right? To see what he was like before AC/DC. Never thought I'd hear Brian Johnson singing a pop song. He's good!
Check out this for a glimpse:
ua-cam.com/video/0_xLxOE_-f0/v-deo.html
His early voice was huge in range and kind of Robert Plant-ish.
I have a bit of a problem with his AC/DC shrieking. Although I believe that this was a clever move, because if he would have keep singing with his normal voice he would have been "just" a mediocre substitute for Bon Scott - instead he created something new, different and unique.
@@jonginder5494 wow, I think he sounds like Bob Seger there.
Bruh I hear you he sounds totally totally different wouldn’t believe it unless I seen this
Andrew M... Well said! I could not agree more!
I would not really know it was Brian singing if had I had seen this. Wow.
UA-cam is fucking awesome 👏 to find things like this .
❤
Thank Brian Johnson , he uploaded this video onto UA-cam.
This is actually a great song. Makes you wonder why you haven't heard it before.
Probably that disco gallop.
There are good songs from that glam/glitter era in the middle 70's. Hidden songs to search.
Brian seems like he's a down-to-Earth, super nice kind of guy? If I was to meet him, I would tell him, "Thank You for all the years of musical enjoyment."
I thought he was a scumbag when I was a kid in the early 80's but I was wrong.
Why can't he stop screaming and sing like this ?
He lives near me. I've never met him but friends have. He's just a nice normal guy and very friendly.
While I prefer AC/DC, this is pretty damn good, especially for that time era! And Brian was always amazing and unique.
He actually looks like he's having lots of fun
@Paul Houston I respect that we have different likes but hair of the dog is bad ass my friend
"For that time" is always going to be a puzzling comment, no what what period it is said of.
He must have done the ACDC voice for them and they said "Thats it, do that voice" and he got stuck doing it for the next 40 years.
A lot of rock singers have said that they tend to go too far early in their careers, and then they have to try and match that style live years later long after they've worn down their voices. And sometimes they don't even try, like James Hetfield these days doing a lot less harsh growling than he did in the 80's.
It's actually funny, after Bon died Malcolm saw Brian's band perform. He was blown away by Brian's manic stage show and went back to Angus & the boys & told them he found the guy to replace Bon.
Turns out Brian's appendix burst right b4 the show. He was going nuts on stage because he was in agonizing pain.
Only Brian Johnson could pull that shit off.
@@dogfacedgremlin2020 so I just watched the 60 minutes Australia of the band and actually bon and Brian had drinks one night and bon went back to the band and spoke very highly of Brian. I don't want to mislead but I think he might have recommended Brian for a gig or something. I'll have to watch it again. But they were aware of Brian before bons eventual death
@@dirty_deeds3523 the thing I saw was just an animated 5 min synopsis of the story. I'm sure theirs more to it than that. Being as I grew up during that Era, if I'm remembering correctly it was almost a year of courting b4 Brian decided to join the band. Forgive me if I'm remembering this wrong but I enjoyed the 80s way to much if ya catch my drift.
@@dogfacedgremlin2020 nah man, that's super cool. I've appreciated these bands since I came to know them. The internet is fascinating for researching from the times past, some legendary sets out there.. I've seen maiden and ozzy but I can't imagine being able to see them in their prime. The internet is all I get xD!pops learned English from this music so it was always in the house. But any metalhead has to pay their deus. There won't be any more bands like these.
Bon had mentioned that he had been in England once touring with a band and he had mentioned that Brian had been in a band called Geordie and Bon had said 'Brian Johnson, he was a great rock and roll singer in the style of Little Richard. ' And that was Bon's big idol, Little Richard.
From the Brian Johnson wiki
Also I remember A doc where Angus Mentions how well Bon liked Brian's singing with Geordie..
Great upload!
I'm loving this, nuthuggers and all! Long live the 70s!
LOL nuthuggers...... never heard before lol. He's totally wearing nuthuggers here... what a mess.
This is a great song !
Now this is the perfect song for that duet with Dolly Parton!
Dolly Parton**********, not Pardon.

Where has this been hiding all my life?
Life time AC/DC fan but i have never seen this before shocked 😲😲😲🤘🤘🤘🤘
My life goal is to be as happy as that drummer.
Growing up I have been AC D C fan on my life I love Bon and Brian as well and pride myself of able to mimic both of their voices as I've been a rock singer for 32 years And I never realised the Brian had a normal singing voice
Ever hear of high voltage? An ac dc cover band? They look and sound very close, i think they might be official cover band for the actual band im not sure
I've never been able to imitate Brian. Bon yes. Still studying. It's that face he makes right? That's how he gets the high notes.
The band prowler working double time on the seduction line. On youbtube Take a look
Brian is one of those guys that looks like he was never young. Here's proof that he was young sometime.
I found this song last night laying in bed dyeing of food poison. It’s absolutely fabulous hearing his voice singing in this way. He was Handsome! I’ve listened to this song many times today.
A long time ago I used to have a lp, Strange Man by Brian Johnson. It was actually a compilation of Geordie. I remember being floored the first time that I heard Brian singing "House Of The Rising Sun".
Yeah, the best cover there is. 👍
Now, THAT I'd like to HEAR. Look up Frijid Pink playing it, if you haven't heard them. Killer sound...
BTW, The Animals were from the Newcastle-Upon-Tyne area as well. Not sure if Eric Burdon ever considered himself a "Geordie" though.
Holy hell that was FANTASTIC! That song was great and had me from the start. Brian sounds AMAZING! I want these albums now.

I can't decide whats more remarkable, Brian Johnson having a pre-AC/DC singing voice, or the fact this was 1975 and appears filmed with HD cameras.
You're not from the 80s are you? All technology has compromises. Think about this:
VGA CRT Monitor - 40 lbs...24 bit color
LCD Monitor - 16 lbs - 10 bit color
It was PAL-SECAM. More lines of resolution than the American standard.
@@BillLaBrie Wasnt that still just 480p though? Looks higher res than that
@@jbm0866 pal-secam is 720x576. NTSC is 720x480. The extra bandwidth of PalSecam seems to translate into better digital resolution when converted.
This is actually a bloody good song.
lol
It’s good AND bloody. Like my chicken
Yeah it is wow.
You already see the smile and enthusiasm
I have never really been a fan of AC/DC but I have all ways been a fan of Brian Johnson. In every interview, or appearance he just seem like the coolest, nicest and most likable person. Oi me lad.
Brian is under-rated as hell! He's a great singer...Respect Brian
Our lasses uncle was the pop boy at the Thomas Wilson Social club in Low Fell, Gateshead and he always tells me that Geordie performed there in the 70s
Many times,I was their sound man !!
I diidn't know Geordie, but now i understand why Brian had such a wonderfull carreer with AC DC.
Angus Young said when they were auditioning, Brian arrived on stage with odd shoes on, Angus thought strongly that he was going to fit right in! I run a large car group on Facebook, Brian is a Member, loves his cars.
Which group?
Tell him how much I like this song pls
He had a good voice! And hair!
And if Bon hadn’t died we’d never know who Brian was. Bon Scott was the bomb! 😁👍
The only Brian Johnson AC/DC I ever liked was back in Black. The rest is all Bon Scott for me. Scott was not only a great front man but just an awesome icon of rock and roll.
And if Bon hadn’t died, acdc will never be legend for the world
they are both legends.
But he did and we do. 🤷🏼♂️
Bon did say Brian was the best singer he ever heard ....true story... The rest is Rock Legend..
What a GREAT voice!!!!
I thought that too
This is great music......but yeah, he definitely made the right move putting on the signature driver cap, changing his voice and making growing up in the 80's for a whole lot of us a lot more fun:-)
Brian Johnson is a phenomenal singer, songwriter and frontman! A true legend! Still rocking! I love singing his ac/dc songs and they're higher than you think they are if you've never tried them! Love, respect and admiration 🤘
I wonder if Malcolm would let him dress like that in AC/DC 🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for the share
Check out Malcolm's outfit in the video of "Can I Sit Next To You" with the original singer before Bon... he has no room to talk!
No.... there is no wonder. No.
Its better than todays crap style
No because too much peeper is showing.
Brian always has been a great singer before and during AC/DC ! And he will be after ! 🤘
Great singers like Brian adapt to the situation. I knew from the first time I heard him in AC/DC he could sing. AC/DC were looking for a Style and he nailed it.
The dude playing the SG will forever be over shadowed by a little schoolboy with the same guitar...

Bro Brian does not use falsetto
I First heard of Geordie in 1979 Through a friend and of course I was dismissive until 2021! Sure enough this is actually very good song! Very impressed with Brian’s vocal ability and range…
I can hear KISS doing this song....
Totally lol
Good call. Excellent call... this is very much like a Kiss song
Yep kiss with a slap of the doobie brothers. Who'd a thunk it😁
Good ear!
Exactly what I was thinking!
Never heard this song before and it’s amazing.
His eyes opened for a total of 5 seconds
Wow, good song, voice, hair and outfit ☺ thank you for the years of amazing music
He looked like an 80s metal singer! He went from a soft singer to a heavy singer
Love it!!! I've never seen any footage of the band before. Classic. I like it.
This sounds like a song that would be popular on the continent.
It’s dripping wet from being dunked in the 70s tank. It doesn’t get anymore 1975 than this.
@@rokyericksonroks Yes, but you could hear songs like this in the French hit parade as recently as 1989.
In UK terms, I'd say that this style of song was already old-hat by 1969.
who's this incredible new wave disco from the future this has got to be my new favorite band way ahead of their time!!!!!. good bye love.
Wow catchy song. He sounds amazing. Almost Journey like.
Wow , I didn't realize how great of a voice he has
Exactly, me neither!
Wow! I had no idea he had a completely different singing style prior to AC/DC -- and he has a really great voice! That being said, his style of singing with AC/DC is now iconic and so uniquely his own. I'm reminded of a old Jim Bruer comedy bit where Bruer imagined the first day of recording Back in Black where Brian was singing pretty much like this, much to the chagrin of the producer who asked him to maybe try screaming. "That's it!!! Just do that on every song!"
First time I see Brian Johnson singing with that voice....amazing, great singer!!!! How much he has changed his style. Rock legend!!!!
Kind of trippy seeing this version of Brian. Different than what I expected but really cool!
Great voice
Holy shit, all those years of gargling with liquid plumber really changed his voice before he joined AC/DC
I was a fan of Geordie in the early and mid 70-ties and still love them....❤️🎸🎤
Always great to see a performance of younger years. A great singer front man.
First time I’ve ever seen you without a hat. Your hairstyle rocked
That song was pretty cool. And even better knowing Brian Johnson sang it.
1st time i could see brian johnsons face...and smile....and no howling rough n tumble vocals....good tune...
Mmm. I really. Like This Band. Good one Brian !!!
Wow!!! This is very good!!! Brian Johnson was a great singer back in the day. I'm not knocking His talents with AC/DC but You know what I mean. I never knew He was in this kind of a band before. It really sounds good..
Sounds like he could have fronted Rainbow.
He once auditioned for Rainbow
@@Cincinnatus1869 Oh. That's interesting. I didn't know that. Thank you.
@@TheManOnTheRail that would have been an odd mix of personalities. Blackmore and Brian are like polar opposites, at least on the surface.
Wow you’re so right, this could almost be a Rainbow track. But Rainbow had a very different sound in the early days with Dio, and they didn’t really get into the pop groove until the early 80s, when Brian was already with AC/DC. But AC/DC has been better for his career longevity than working with Blackmore would have been.
I’m the man on the silver mountain!
Those were the days when barbers had a good laugh together.
Yeah, looks like they were mostly out of work.
And I thought he wore the cap to hide going bald, he's just hiding that hair.
@@gregw988 Haha! There’s actually a story behind the cap... I think it was his brother’s..He would sweat like crazy in gigs and it would burn his eyes, so he borrowed a cap after a set break. After his brother saw the condition it was in after the gig, he said “KEEP it!” and it became something the club-owners could remember his band by, so he stuck with it.
And the people selling neck scarves made a fortune.
@@widehotep9257 , yep - scarves, and open shirts or jackets unzipped down to the waist. 😄
This clip shows us that Johnson has a great voice. And extremely tight jeans.
that is disgusting but was the trend back in then ... even bon scott used to dress like that and even like a girl
...and 1980, Brian even hadn`t 40 Pound for a travel to meet the boyz from AC/DC in London for "the rehersal"!
...and if you close my eyes here, I wouldn`t recognize the AC/DC leadsingers voice! 😎

Johnna was a regular around the clubs, there were so many good bands, Brass Alley, I’m sure Johnna has some fond memories of people like Davy Ditchburn, Frankie Gibbon, Geordie Defty, Keith Satchfield etc. The 70’s was a great time, especially around the clubs in Newcastle and the north east.

Damn, this is GREAT!
I love this
the secret of many great performers is their versatility. most of them can do a wide range of things that fans never see because they're always doing what they're known for. as different as this is from AC/DC, imagine what Geordie fans thought when they heard Back In Black!
btw, this rocks!
i'm having problems envisioning this is the same voice on Back in Black. I heard some of that Brian Johnson in a few places. It's so different. Really cool. Also I guess he would have had to change his approach to be more similar to Bon's range and style. Versatility indeed. This is really interesting in the regard you mentioned.

Its a shame music hit a wall right after 2000. There really is nothing like this anymore. Not even close to the maturity and structure of songs from these good ol days. That driv'n beat too. Its quality stuff.
