I wish I could visit Newcastle. Will people there welcome an enthusiastic tourist like me? Even though this footage is almost a half-century old, I hope Geordies are still welcoming with open arms.
He can sing, but at the same time I say that he was better as a singer when he was with Geordie: he seemed to be able to sing every kind of music. With AC/DC he has reduced his range and in the comparison with Bon Scott (as "the" singer of AC/DC), to me he comes out as the loser.
He destroyed his voice on the first 3 ACDC albums and was never the same after that. In Geordie he actually SUNG which would have preserved his voice for decades, not for a mere 3-4 years while in ACDC.
..or rather used to have. Lol Unlike his later life time career, where he was made to scream like Donald Duck throttling his throat instead of singing. Lol
When Geordie broke up, Brian Johnson went back to his business of customizing cars. Geordie already had made TV appearances, so not to be recognized by customers, he started wearing a hat. He continues to wear one till this day
That's not true at all... he started wearing the hat with Geordie because sweat would get in his eyes... geordie became known as the band with the singer that wears the hat
Indossava un cappellino perché diceva che il sudore gli colava negli occhi .. un grande Front man . Nei Geordie mostrava tutta la sua autenticità e dote a cantare. Voce straordinaria
I never heard of Geordie until now. They didn't play Geordie songs on US radio in the 70's. If they would have, there is no doubt the band would have been popular here.
Yeah really underrated - massive global success, 7th best selling album of all time in the world, sell-out tours of the biggest stadiums in the world, platinum album sales, multi-millionaire. He must be wondering where it all went wrong.
Once he joined AC/DC he started screaming instead of singing... Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of AC/DC, I love Back in Black, I like Brian as a person... I don't know if he deliberately chose to change his singing style or if he could no longer sing as he was used with Geordie, but there's something wrong somewhere.
so way cool to see this stuff! to see Brian Johnson at another time in his musical career before he became who everyone knows him now. and his vocal range was astonishing! it's no wonder that Bon Scott was floored when he watched Brian onstage!
This shows you why Bon was so impressed with Brian. I would have loved to seen one of their shows. I can only imagine fans of this band when they first heard Back In Black. Nothing exciting like that will never happen again cause nothing can top the talents of these hard working rock n roll animals. Fucking love it.
Bon Scott once recommended Brian to AC/DC if he ever decided to leave the band for a solo project,so when you think about it Brian already had the blessings of Bon Scott.
If you wanna hear the best version of "House Of The Rising Sun," if you like Brian Johnson's voice, listen for yourself...I was blown away...his range was absolutely amazing!
Especially when they've only got the one guitar so there's no rhythm guitar behind the solo to fill the sound out and still give them something to dance to.
What a fantastic bit of singing.. Bryan truly was an exceptional singer back then. Don't get me wrong, he was and still is an absolute legend in AC/DC, but here he was really singing.
Been a fan since 73 :-) I still have my Geordie cassette tape. They're dressed in suits ties n hats like the gangsters (on the cover) lol ;-) but this is wonderful .we get sound n the sight here. Thanks a lot.
Wow, cant believe they weren't a household name. Good thing for ACDC though. Watching some of their other videos, who would have known Brian was so good. Don't get me wrong, I love him in ACDC but wow, what a style and range he has.
When he starts singing high you can hear his early AC/DC vocals a bit. With AC/DC he just sang much louder, then he blew out his voice somewhere in the mid 80's had had to go falsetto from there. At least that's how it seems to my ears. You can clearly hear a full throated screaming voice on Back in Black and the next couple albums, but on Razor's Edge it sounds more like a falsetto trying to imitate how he used to sound.
Back in Black was also sung in falsetto, although he sung better on that album than in other AC/DC albums. Johnson naturally had a baritone voice and is probably bass now.
Well, falsetto, not falsetto, point stands. There's a tiny bit of wear audible album by album from Back in Black thru For Those About To Rock to Flick Of The Switch. More drastic on Fly On The Wall, lots more on Blow Up Your Video, and then a pretty laryngitic gargle from Razor's Edge thru Stiff Upper lip (one kid new to Dacca heard Thunderstruck the first time and asked "who's the old lady singing" - OUCH). And what can anyone expect? That kind of thrashing isn't sustainable indefinitely - which made it all the more jaw-dropping and miraculous when Johnson returned with much of his edge and snarl back on Black Ice, sounding better than he had since 1988.
I was actually there , I was only a kid , but we knew the members of the bands Fogg and Geordie, Im now 53 and remember it like yesterday, obviously we weren't allowed to be on film due too our ages. but may mam was ! Ive tried to spot her in the crowd ha ha
