I think everybody's forgetting that saruman came before gandalf in Lord of the rings
i really hope they are blue wizzes (even the dark one) & not gandalf/saruman, despite the hobbits saying he needs a "gand" (wand). in revised lore they came in the 2nd age, while gandalf & saruman came in the 3rd age.
The sooner you accept RoP is just glorified fan fiction loosely based in world of LoTR, the happier you will all be
I think these theories give too much credit to the lazy writers and producers. They’re almost definitely going to make him Gandalf and the dark wizard in Rune will be Saruman. That SHOULDN’T be the case, but look at what they’ve done with literally every other character and plot line in the series. 🫤

Tom Bombadil referes to him as a "wizard" and an "istar", so that definitely means he's an istar. Cause it's Tom saying it.
I am 80% certain he will turn out to be a blue wizard. His other cult-leading blue wizard fellow is already there in Rhun. The Gandalf hints are just annoying red herrings like 'follow your nose' and 'grand-elf'.

Yeah, i think I agree with you. I think it'll be one of the blue wizards. But I believe that they originally were going to make him Gandalf, but following the backlash, they decided to change it to one of the blue wizards. They're just dropping the hints to "surprise" viewers later. Why he doesn't know his name, or why they just don't reveal who he is is just dumb writing. It's the whole "mystery box" thing that JJ Abrams is famous for. All of this is just annoying.
@@blaxpoitation8528 it's gonna be gandalf bcz they arent going to spend over a billion dollars creating this series just for it to be some irrelevant wizard like the blue wizards. It'll be gandalf, he said follow your nose, he's hanging out with hobbits, he's friends with tom bombadil, there was that hint about needing a "gand" a few episodes ago, he's also seemingly afraid of sauron. Yes it's not lore accurate but the entire show isn't lore accurate either bcz amazon is just being amazon i guess, they're only being accurate on major events and not the finer details like how the istari came to M.E by boat whereas the stranger fell out of the sky. If it isn't gandalf then amazon might be cooked.
He could turn out to be Darth Vader given how much this series treat Tolkein's work with contempt. Attempting to seek lore in this shambles is an exercise in futility.
Agreed, he will be a Blue Wizard. Tolkien left nothing but mystery concerning the two wizards, so perfect for Amazon to right their own story.

The Halbrand storyline made me lose any hope that the writers were doing anything remotely interesting or clever with deeper lore, lesser known characters, red herrings etc. All through season one I thought it was way too obvious and dumb for Halbrand to be Sauron in a world with so many interesting characters and opportunities. I was wrong. So now I really doubt the Stranger storyline could possibly be anything more clever or cool than “durr hey look it’s Gandalf, one of a handful of characters a mass audience knows from the movies.” 🙄
When we first saw the stranger, he was all confused, scrabbling in the dirt at some point and scratching out the Gandalf rune. I don't know why this is still a mystery. Unless the writers didn't realize what he was doing, and the actor made his own little joke.
They can make him anything or anyone. That's how tv-shows work.

@@mj9608 yeah the problem is that the few okay things are not original but yeah that would suffice but it's not really good. And the original parts are awful
It does not have a place in actual LOTR lore. It is the wrong arrival, wrong timeframe. It is too early for the wizards, too late for Morgoth to have corrupted them. There are many storylines in LOTR that could have been told, yet they have told an incoherent story that is a DEI version of LOTR.
If they wanted to tell the story of the blue wizards, then they should have arrived by boat, then gone east. Where details are not abundant in those regions.
If an unnamed wizard, then what’s the point? If another maier, then that might indicate the valar and Illuvatar sent additional representatives. There is a reason that Elves, dwarves, and men had to labor to defeat Morgoth and Sauron. It would not be much of a story if gods just destroyed all evil.
I cease to analyze as Amazon does not seem to have any respect for the LOTR. I will not watch any more episodes as I forced myself to watch the first season and being disappointed is a mild description.

Serious guy, doing a video about "rings of power"and try to connect it with tolkien's work only drags your channel DOWN, and will bring the wrong kind of subs(if bring any), if you want people that like tolkien, do something about the original books or the movies!
Agree never should of made TV show should've been movies, never gonna get movie worthy actors or directors with a TV show. Just goes to show how much of a good job Peter Jackson did

I enjoy the show. I understand it's pretty loose on the lore. That's how tv adaptations go. And to the people freaking out about orc families, ya that is cannon. They breed like humans. It's not perfect, but it's much better than anything star wars, anything dc, marvel etc...
Gate keeping much? You should only focus on the books and the movies. Because the Jackson movies are the only media made from Tolkien’s works that I happen to like. So focus only on those movies. Ignore those cartoon from the 70’s and 80’s. They are not good. There was some BBC radio drama, but I never heard it so feel free to ignore that too. By the way the Jackson Hobbit movies are not as good as the LOTR trilogy. So focus more on LOTR movies than then Hobbit.
Seriously. Let the man create any content he likes. I was introduced to Middle Earth through the silly 1978 movie. It made me go out and read the books because it was so interesting. I have read all the books, all the histories, all Tolkiens non Middle Earth stuff, listened to the BBC Radio Dramas (which are great), watch every silly cartoon and every movie and now the silly TV show, which I mostly laugh at.
I stopped watching after two episodes of series one like a true man of culture, but isnt it just some sneaky way to put Gandalf in the series cos they don’t have the right to? Even has the cheap memberberry callbacks. I’d just ignore the series if I were you. It’s just bad fan fiction.

If we were going by actual lore, it couldn't be Gandalf. The rings of power is set in the 2nd age, whereas Gandalf and Sarumon didn't come to middle earth until the 3rd age. But this is Amazon, so it could actually be Gandalf. They messed up the wheel of time, so they can mess up Tolkiens work as well.
