Sauron didn’t make the three Elven rings, they were forged in secret. The nine were a successful endeavor, but the seven arguably failed. The stubborn nature and hardiness of the Dwarves helped them resist the dominion of the One and in the end most were lost or claimed by dragon fire.
The 9 and the 7 weren't different in any way. 16 rings were made it just so happened that 9 were given to men and 7 to dwarves. The only failure of the 7 was the lack of knowledge of the dwarves will.
It was an elven ring, given to him as one of the rings uncontrolled by the one rings. Narya. The ring of fire, inspiration, and the ring able to inspire courage in those lacking it. Thus starting the entire book of the hobit. Awesome story, but seriously check the back story. That’s why Gandalf was able to inspire the dwarves, bilbo, and the fellowship. Lore my man, it matters. 💛
Cool to see another UA-camr doing such a deep analysis! 👏🏼 Don’t worry, everyone comments about my pronunciation too. 😂 My Ohio accent just can’t nail some of these elvish dialects. 🤷🏼♂️
@videobooks3 Accepting a compliment based on an untruth is unethical and wrong. If someone tells you your voice is nice but you used AI, you should let them know its not your voice. With this kind of unnecessary lie, now I question the authenticity of the writing. Did AI do that for you as well? Seems likely.
Before the Silmarillion was published, 'Maiar' and 'Valar' were names in Appendix A and nothing more. Nobody knew why Gandalf was also named Olorin. When Sil was published, we looked up Olorin and knew for sure Gandalf was a Maia. So many blind references. We did not know the story of Luthien and Beren, nor how that paralleled the story of Aragon and Arwen. It was JRRT's personality he did the work to make the story internal consistent. One example is Frodo gets buzzed by Nazgul in the Dead Swamp. That woven in to make the story consistent with all the events in Rohan that evening.
Yeah, I agree, there are some inconsistencies in his narration. Narya is the ring given by Cirdan the Shipwright, who was an elf, not a dwarf. Sauron only forged the one ring, all other 19 rings were forged by the elves and Celebrimbor. The 3 elven rings were never seen nor touched by Sauron's hand. Sauron, disguised as Anatar, the lord of gifts, manipulated Celembrimbor into crafting the rings, by teaching him how rto craft the rings of power (probably something Sauron learned when he was a Maiar of Aule, the smith). The only ring Sauron ever crafted was the One ring.
I'm going to take a little bit of a middle road here on this. I love all the time and effort you put into creating this, and especially the fact you exhaustively cite and link all the artists/work you've used. Clearly a lot of time and effort went into putting this together. By that same token, I really wish (and perhaps maybe would be something you consider going forward) that you had taken the additional little extra time to look up the proper pronunciations for all various names and terms. I think it's quite unfortunate something that obviously had so much energy put into it gets tripped up by something so straightforward and simple to address. I got under 4 minutes in before deciding to write this once I finished the video. I still commend what you've put together here and hope you do more, just want the polish to be there too.
This is a 3 and a half hour long UA-cam video and you're nit picking this guy for not pronouncing FAKE words correctly? Congrats, you win the biggest nerd of the decade award.
@crupt1023 I...actually first praise them for all the hard work and time they put into this? I made it clear I enjoyed the video still, but just wanted to comment on the pronunciation. If you write an exhaustive 10 page article on a topic, but your grammar is still whack, it needs the little bit of extra fixing no? Same thing. Also sick, yeah I am a nerd, appreciate the award!
A few pronunciation howlers (for eg, in UK English "Combe", the Bree-land settlement mentioned in C8, would be pronounced "Coom"; NOT "Com-bee") but otherwise, a very comprehensive vid!
