It's a shame, really. People look at those two defensively terrible types and assume the combination is also bad and therefore Cradily has no merit. Rock and Grass do end up pairing up surprisingly well, all things considered.

I loved the Bug Catcher team. Despite all of your complaints and struggles with it, I enjoyed seeing one of my favorite pokemon types shine in a while.
For me personally, it's disappointing to see that Volcarona turned out to not be too good for him, as it's easily my favorite bug type Pokemon at the moment
My favourite team this year must be my only bug type shield play through. The team hade, Crustlu, Aracuinid, Durant, Galvantula, Cantiscorche and golisapod. It was an incredible team that worked amazingly and I had no major issues for the howl play through (I apologizes for the horrible misspelling of the Pokémon names).
I also did a mono-bug run but of BW2 (I swear, I wasn’t copying Michael) and lemme just say, Crustle is one of the most underrated bug types, it is genuinely really good, idk if it’s just because bug/rock is a pretty good typing or if it’s genuinely good but my appreciation for it has skyrocketed recently
This one such a fun video to watch Michael! I have seen all the playthroughs beside the 2 randomized ones. Hearing all of these, makes me reflect on how fun this year was. My favorite was the alolan playthrough
I think changing Team Sky's goal from "expanding the sky" to "reaching for the sky (being the best and most skilled pokemon gang)" could make Team Sky not just grow in size in the real world, but become actual pokemon canon. Long Live Team Sky!!!
7:03 I still think that Team Sky's mission could be to expand the sky by restoring the Ozone layer (via hostile take-over of mega corporations worldwide in order to replace all of their energy sources with solar/wind energy)
I always love it when Grunty Boi shows up. The energy is so infectious. If Grunty Boi was the PR recruiter for Team Rocket, I would join in a heartbeat.
I'd love to see more Grunty Boi playthoughs in other games next year. Make it like a series. Let the grunt conquer all of the regions to become the ultimate Rocket Master!
I think it should be whether the Pokémon can participate in X and Y's Sky Battles. Namely, remove some Flying types like the basic stage regional birds and Hawlucha while adding all Levitate users except Gengar (Bronzor and Bronzong _must_ have Levitate). The speciality here would not just be Flying types but Ground immunities.
I liked the Dark Gym Leader Team because it inspired me to do a Pokemon X Psychic Type Monotype Challenge with Delphox, Malamar, Gardevoir, Reuniclus, Meowstic, and Starmie.
I guess similarly, I also did a dark mono run in X. I tried to a roleplay of it as Joker, since it was Persona 5 themed, but I'm not as good as he is so it basically just amounted to saying "It's Showtime!" right before every boss and naming everyone after a Phantom Thief.
Go Team Sky! You should do a playthrough as Team Pixiedust. It'd be hilarious. Especially given knowing you, you'd most likely do it in character and I find that incredibly amusing.
RIP Azrael. Absol is so cool and is by far my favorite Pokémon, but I cannot ignore its lack of battle prowess due to it lack of speed or bulk, as well as not having a secondary typing for extra STAB or to help in a monotype run. Mega Absol is at least pretty fast, but it still doesn't really hit hard enough to justify its lack of bulk.
I was watching his videos and took a break from social media and he already had a beard when I came back and i was like wtf 😳???? Lol he looks good !!!
I love how Michael glosses over the fact that he cheated in the Dark type run by gamesharking an Absolite into his game. Normally, you can't get that till postgame.
He could've traded with himself there actually. What weirded me out is in his bug catcher run, he mentioned something about how you just need to evolve Karrablast and Shelmet by having the other one in the party.
I think it was just one of those cheats that makes trade evolutions "normal" evolutions. But i guess they still wanted to do something with karablast and Shellmet having to be together.
@@kaelanmcalpine2011 I’m assuming he was probably playing on an emulator, plus evolving trade evolutions without actually trading isn’t really cheating
Mega Stones can be sent to other players by trades. Normally that Absolite is postgame, but it's still perfectly legal to have in the first league challenge.
I actually quite like the long form content - so multiple videos for 1 playthrough and then one summary one on the main channel. Maybe even skip the summary - as long as it stays somewhere between 3 to 5 videos, I quite like it.
The Platinum team was really creative imo. I also had a shiny Golem in my first Brilliant Diamond playthrough. I found 3 shinies, one with the Underground boost, two with the 4096 odds. Two shiny Graveler and one Machoke while grinding at Victory Road. I used the first Graveler and replaced my Rhyhorn with it. I traded the second one I found to the guy who helped me evolve the first Graveler without scamming me as a thank you
I was very worried that the Platinum team would end up looking like any other cookie cutter team before those two Shiny Pokémon replaced Staravia and Gabite. I've seen enough of those lines in playthroughs to last me a lifetime. Ambush and Korg personally saved this run for me.
I think I only did 5 playthroughs this year: Shield, Emerald, Fire Red Friendlocke, Leaf Green and Brilliant Diamond. Emerald was probably my least favourite of these, which is odd seeing as I used Swampert, Hariyama, Flygon, Armaldo, Cacturne and Banette, some pretty cool Pokémon. Maybe the Physical/Special attacks being based on type killed it for me, I don’t know. Might replay Alpha Sapphire with this team in the future. My Shield playthrough is probably 4th. I used Cinderace, Appletun, Mr Rime, Polteageist, G-Slowking and Rapid Strike Urshifu. Aside from Cinderace, I really enjoyed using these guys (especially since Polteageist and Slowking were shiny), but the team was pretty unbalanced. Especially Urshifu, I had to take it off my team at times to give myself any form of challenge. My Brilliant Diamond playthrough sits at around the middle. Infernape was great overall, but I wished I had leaned into the mixed attacker approach more. Lumineon wasn’t great, but it was super fun when I switched it into a water move so Storm Drain would activate. Honchkrow hits hard, but usually gets oneshot before it can do anything. Froslass is a really good special attacker and was pretty useful for the run. My Shiny Rampardos hit like a truck but struggled to take a hit, and despite not using Shiny Dialga a lot, it did great when I used it, unsurprisingly. However, I will probably never shiny hunt in a first playthrough ever again. Leaf Green is the runner up. I decided to switch my starter out for Victreebel, who was good but barely got any poison moves. Ninetales could flamethrower and not much else, but I really like Ninetales so its cool. Starmie was probably the MVP since it had wide coverage and hit a lot of things hard. Kangaskhan was decent I guess. I happened to get a Marowak with a Thick Club so he hit everything super hard, but was slow and weak to special attacks. Finally, Dragonite was pretty strong. Lastly, my Fire Red Friendlocke wins for how fun the league ended up being. The team was very unbalanced, having a Vileplume and a Tangela on the same team, but the rest was great. Graveler took hits like a champ (and I would have used Explosion on Lance’s Dragonite if it didn’t get oneshot by Arbok), Arcanine was just consistantly good for the whole run, Jolteon could hit hard and fast, but somehow, Butterfree ended up being the MVP, thanks to Sleep Powder/Compound Eyes. Everyone was in the voice chat when we beat the league and it was great, even if only Jolteon and Butterfree survived.
I loved hearing your experiences so if you don't mind I would like to share mine. I had three completed playthroughs this year. First was my Omega Ruby Nuzlocke. This was the first Nuzlocke I ever completed so it gets bonus points there. The team I entered the league with (and had for most of the game was): Shrek the Swampert Sumo the Hariyama Cerberus the Mighteyena Joule the Beautiful cosplay Pikachu Aphrodite the Castform (HAIL YEAH) and Natsuki the Breloom. Only Joule, Sumo and Shrek survived. However I need to mention Roxie the Linonne who tragically died on victory road. I still miss you 😢. Next was my Y Nuzlocke. The team I entered the league with was: Todd the Delphox Bronc the Venusaur Gloria the Hippodown Marigold the Florges. Tin Tin the Lucario (Not the gift one from Korrina. I found one for my encounter just before the first Gym.) And my favourite member Martha the Butterfree. Martha ended being the only too survive thanks to BS crits from every direction. An honarable mention should go to Barret the Slowbro who also died on victory road 😭. Last was my replay of Sword. This is easily my favourite team that I've ever assembled in a playthrough. This legendary squad consisted of: Radish Waifu the Tsareena Oops the Quagsire (points if you get this reference) Big Bird the Corvinknight Dutchess the Weaville Lumiette the Chandelure and the later but certainly not least edition of JD the Drapion. Sorry for it being so long but thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. 😆👋
@@masochistsummer6302 This is what I like to see. A Jaiden Animations fan in the flesh! As for my playthroughs, I only did one this year, and that was my replay of Shield. The team was: Fleetfoot the Cinderace Snapper the Drednaw Gentleman the *female* Galarian Weezing (I only realized it was female after I had nicknamed it, I considered changing but then I changed my mind) Leafer the Leafeon (very creative I know) Supero the Obstagoon Megamind the Orbeetle I LOVED THIS TEAM. The only thing I would've liked was an Electric type, but otherwise I love it.
@@43dl3ntil Haha yes right in the flesh! Kinda forgot to mention that Oops basically saved my arse during the battle with Leon (side note his Haxorus can go die in a ditch) because I forgot that his Charizard had a grass type move. All the other members had fainted at this point due to again another case of BS crits. I was broke so I didn't have many revives and by the time I got to Charizard I had used them all. Somehow Oops managed to survive that G-max Overgrowth with like 6 hp left and I was stunned. He then took out Charizard with G-Max Geyser straight afterwards. As if I didn't love Quagsire enough before this lol (he's my second favourite pokemon 😂) A bit of a minor mention Sumo from Omega Ruby literally it seemed at times couldn't die. There were a couple of battles where I was gonna have to sac him in order to make it through. And he would live with like less than 20 hp left and proceed to finish off the pokemon that was supposd to kill him. Like I'm pretty sure Hariyama is quite bulky but frick me. It literally happened at the final battle with Stephens Mega Supercomputer. I even predicted it right before hand. I ain't complaining it just gave a whole new respect for Hariyama. ✋😅
I actually really liked the Bug team, cuz at the end you came out on top and did eventually win. It was cool to see and to be reminded how many cool bugs got introduced in Unova.
5:44 dont worry, I lost to roark in brilliant diamond with 5 pokemon on my team XD. I switched out my monferno to train my machop, but... I totally forgot my attack boosts with power-up punch were gone from switching out, and I fought against cranidos 0_0 (my team was monferno, bidoof, starly, shinx and machop)
This really was a great year for MandJ content. Every play through was a banger. Just love watching any of the playthroughs. They’re all so good and unique.
I completely agree, only problem is when I binge watched his videos and had to wait between releases lmao. Michael’s content is always really good so between video releases it was pretty annoying lol.
My least favourite was his dark type gym run as he was acting like an evil team leader and not a gym leader, gym leaders respect each other but he was insulting Viola Korina and Valerie
Whats wild about your first brilliant diamond team was it was almost the exact same makeup of mons, with the exception that i used garchomp instead of gliscor
Hey, Michael! While I agree with you on BDSP, I've decided to make them more interesting for me, so I've been doing a Team Sky playthrough of Brilliant Diamond! Despite the chosen game, it's actually really fun. I haven't beaten it yet, but my team is Gyarados, Drifblim, Togepi (it will be flying type eventually), Swablu, Honchkrow, and Crobat. Yes, I had to specifically hunt for Murkrow and Togepi, but Murkrow didn't give me any trouble. Togepi, on the other hand, took almost two hours to get, because 5% encounter rate. Despite all of that, I'm really having fun with this team!
The only thing that i wanna say to BDSP, is that i kinda feel bad for it, while many people asked for a sinnoh remake before like at all cost, once they got it they were... disappointed... like michael... and because of that, i can't agree with him... i can't hate on BDSP! its what people wanted before on the community! Like almost every single person in the pokemon community! BDSP DOESN'T DESERVE THIS! IT DESERVED BETTER! also gald you had fun!
@@SleepyOtter8806 While I agree with you, the reason the games are getting so much hate is because it has none of the quality-of-life things that Platinum gave us. With remakes in the past, they've incorporated the third game into them, as well as the QOL improvements. BDSP gave us hope through the trailers that it was going to have Platinum features during gameplay, but it did not deliver. I do love how difficult the Elite Four is, though. It actually feels like a challenge, and victory feels more rewarding. I haven't felt this excited to have beaten a Champion since my very first Pokemon game (FireRed).
Hi Mikey. I discovered you this year and have loved every minute. I have a question regarding Team Sky; do levitating pokemon, for instance flygon in hoenn, make the cut for being pokemon of the sky? Just curious, but I'd understand if they don't since they technically aren't flying as much as they're hovering
It’s a good question. He was skeptical about using Gyarados because while it is a flying type, it’s not really associated with flying… so he is considering more than a Pokemon’s type. I would say he only uses Pokémon that are flying type, but Mightyena is an exception. I’d like to think that in general if it can learn the move fly or has been seen flying in the anime, it is a possible contender. Most likely though, I think he would stick to flying types (one question, for example, is his most recent community post- if Team Sky goes to Alola, would he abandon his starter after Decidueye loses the flying type? Or would be just stop Dartrix from evolving?)
i absolutely love everything from your channel i've seen so far *which i've been binge looking at since i love pokemon and found you recently!* You are very entertaining and pretty cool Mikey i also want to ask, will there ever be a Plush For Grunty Boi?
This year I used a Roserade entirely because you showed their potential. I ended up feeling dirty, and only let her fight last, because she murdered everything. Didn't matter what type it was, she murdered it. Blood soaked little rose.
Can I suggest a play through where you can only use level up moves, remove the oldest move when learning a new one. I got this idea by looking at the level up move set of umbreon in different gens. It's not good.
One day I want there to be something in a future game where you can take Pokémon from from your party and box and make two teams and make them battle. That way you can put the team you had in a play through of soulsilver against the team you used in platinum for example. It doesn’t even have to be a full team I can just be one on one. I want to put my sun team against my shield team, my Samurott against my for Feraligator, and more
I hope grunty boi makes another playthrough!! Maybe johto next, because team rocket is there too. Also would love to see a “best of 2021” video to end the year!!
For future challenges that are like the Dark type or your kid load out Pokémon, why not increase the enemies levels? I’ve been doing that lately in my games, and it’s made sweeping harder and let me use strong Pokémon that I’d usually restrict, like a Randomized Run where I started with Zweilous who had dragon rage. And lost a LOT.
YAY GRUNTY BOI! I want more videos with him and want him to take Team Rocket to Hoenn! The reason LeafGreen got more views then Emerald is because of Charizard and Kanto nostalgia.
Imagine his child self just teleports to him and just went "UH NO ACKSHULLY I HAD THIS ON MY TEAM WHAT THE HECKLE MIIII-" Also Grunty Boy's team, pretty swell man, I really like the LeafGreen team
As Absol is one of my favourite Pokémon and one that I liked using a lot when Pokémon Brick Bronze was still a thing, it’s disappointing to see the one you use let you down 😔
It was slightly Michael's fault though as he mega evolved it just to use swords dance, it fainted against a fairy type mega so that is acceptable but the Clawwitzer was sad but again Mikey should have attacked instead, he should have known it had aura sphere
I figured out what “Expand the Sky” could mean. The Hoenn evil teams’ goals are stupid and not thought out well. Expand the land, well then we lose water which is important for us. Expand the sea, where the heck are we gonna live? Expand the sky by literally expanding the atmosphere outwards into space. Assuming that’s something Rayquaza can do, it would be hard or impossible to breath with the expanded atmosphere.
I enjoyed both Team Sky videos, however every time I hear the name I still think Team Ozone would have made more sense, as well as sound cooler. That’s my opinion. Keep up the good work and best wishes for 2022!
I mean Platinum was hilarious with the shines and Shield Randomized was BONKERS, but obviously both Teams Sky videos (plus the new one) are my favorites.
This is why I'd like future remakes to mix it up a bit. ORAS mixed the game a lot compared to other remakes with their original games, and with SS actually showing how the gym structure works I think it'd be cool if in future remakes they change gym leaders up. For example BDSP I know it was unlikely, but I thought it'd be neat if Flint was the Sunnyshore gym leader while Volkner had his place in the league, Sunnyshore isn't as technologically advanced since Volkner has to spend all his time at the elite 4, and he's conflicted on if he'd rather keep battling or go back to his side jobs/hobbies, if he beats you he plans on challenging Cynthia to be the new Champion, if he loses he might step down. Maybe Winnona is in the elite 4 in Hoenn and someone else is a grass gym leader in her town, Juan is a water gym leader, while Wallace is either champion again or ice water elite 4 member. Maybe Karen is a Kanto dark gym leader replacing Giovanni, or frankly I'd be fine if she became champion, there's so much they could do in future games to give a unique twist. We even knew how the gym system worked prior to SS, it just cleared it up more and makes it a spectacle. Like back in the 1st games RBGY we know the Karate King was the gym leader in Saffron, but then Sabrina made hers and in a battle she won kicking him from the league and entering her gym into it, Koga gets replaced by Jasmine in GSC too. BW2 some characters step down like Lenora, Cheren proves his gym is league worthy, Brycen may have lost or stepped down, and Drayden somehow becomes the 7th gym leader instead of 8th. The only way I see that happening (as much as I'd like to deny him and his glorious MOOSTACHE LOSING) is if Marlon beat him, and the triplets were too weak so they lost their gym leader slot, and end up focusing on their other job.
For Pokémon Emerald, I had the same team that Michael had but with a Swellow, Manectric, and Machamp added to complete and make a full team of six. I played Emerald using an emulator, so, I kinda coded Machoke's evolution because I never got to use a Machamp in a Generation III playthrough.
Mikey: "Sorry Grunty boi." Grunty boi:"It's fine you're just an idiot." That moment cracked me up 🤣🤣 and also my favourite team is the one that ended up 1st. *GO TEAM SKY!!!!*

I always love it when Grunty Boi shows up. The energy is so infectious. If Grunty Boi was the PR recruiter for Team Rocket, I would join in a heartbeat.
u heard what he said at the end too funny
I wonder if "Expand the Sky" means just getting rid of outer space so there is just a buncha floating islands and a giant sea underneath.
I'd love to see more Grunty Boi playthoughs in other games next year. Make it like a series. Let the grunt conquer all of the regions to become the ultimate Rocket Master!

Team sky grunts can technically use any Pokémon as long as it has levitate or they have a balloon as a held item.
I think.
Wow that is so big brain 🧠
I would think any non-fliers that can learn Fly should also count so Golurk would be a cool candidate.
Hunter would be the game changer I use it cause earthquakes are such an annoying move
That would be boring tho. I think only pokemon that have levitate should be allowed
This was an amazing year. We love you, Mikey!
Yes please
Which one would he do though? Alola and Galar either have the best Fairy types or have a Fairy starter. Also I had the same thought XD
Probably Alola as only one starter can become fairy type
Shayla should talk like Ashley Arbruster or Clover(Totally Spies!)
I wonder if Mikey had actually attacked instead of using swords dance would that have made a difference
I also love absol
It should so be Dark/Fairy type.
I think somehow getting a Mega Houndoom would have been better.

Well it didn't matter because Mega Absol did nothing

You should totally do this video for following years again. It's cool to recap the year of playthroughs and rank what you had.
I actually quite like the long form content - so multiple videos for 1 playthrough and then one summary one on the main channel. Maybe even skip the summary - as long as it stays somewhere between 3 to 5 videos, I quite like it.
I'd love to see more Grunty Boi Plays too! His Team Rocket playthrough was so fun to watch!
Have you ever thought on making a play trough as the leader of team pixie?
11:02 this didn’t age well
The Platinum team was really creative imo. I traded the second one I found to the guy who helped me evolve the first Graveler without scamming me as a thank you
Nice profile pic my starter in every playthough
I was very worried that the Platinum team would end up looking like any other cookie cutter team before those two Shiny Pokémon replaced Staravia and Gabite. I've seen enough of those lines in playthroughs to last me a lifetime. Ambush and Korg personally saved this run for me.
Beyond the Escavalier sounds like an awesome look at Escavalier’s life.

The shield randomiser is already his 4th most viewed video. Let’s get it to number 1.
What is a friendlocke?
Good teams btw
I loved hearing your experiences so if you don't mind I would like to share mine. I had three completed playthroughs this year.
First was my Omega Ruby Nuzlocke. This was the first Nuzlocke I ever completed so it gets bonus points there. The team I entered the league with (and had for most of the game was):
Shrek the Swampert
Sumo the Hariyama
Cerberus the Mighteyena
Joule the Beautiful cosplay Pikachu
Aphrodite the Castform (HAIL YEAH)
and Natsuki the Breloom. Only Joule, Sumo and Shrek survived. However I need to mention Roxie the Linonne who tragically died on victory road. I still miss you 😢.
Next was my Y Nuzlocke. The team I entered the league with was:
Todd the Delphox
Bronc the Venusaur
Gloria the Hippodown
Marigold the Florges.
Tin Tin the Lucario (Not the gift one from Korrina. I found one for my encounter just before the first Gym.)
And my favourite member Martha the Butterfree. Martha ended being the only too survive thanks to BS crits from every direction. An honarable mention should go to Barret the Slowbro who also died on victory road 😭.
Last was my replay of Sword. This is easily my favourite team that I've ever assembled in a playthrough. This legendary squad consisted of:
Radish Waifu the Tsareena
Oops the Quagsire (points if you get this reference)
Big Bird the Corvinknight
Dutchess the Weaville
Lumiette the Chandelure
and the later but certainly not least edition of JD the Drapion.
Sorry for it being so long but thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. 😆👋

@@masochistsummer6302 This is what I like to see. A Jaiden Animations fan in the flesh!
As for my playthroughs, I only did one this year, and that was my replay of Shield.
The team was:
Fleetfoot the Cinderace
Snapper the Drednaw
Gentleman the *female* Galarian Weezing (I only realized it was female after I had nicknamed it, I considered changing but then I changed my mind)
Leafer the Leafeon (very creative I know)
Supero the Obstagoon
Megamind the Orbeetle
I LOVED THIS TEAM.
As if I didn't love Quagsire enough before this lol (he's my second favourite pokemon 😂)
A bit of a minor mention Sumo from Omega Ruby literally it seemed at times couldn't die. ✋😅
Awesome beard bro also you ended up with a really great team for a non-catching team in the ultra moon team.
I actually really liked the Bug team, cuz at the end you came out on top and did eventually win. It was cool to see and to be reminded how many cool bugs got introduced in Unova.

Gengar can fly XD
Gengar can't be used in Sky Battles. I think that disqualifies it.
I simply KNEW the Emerald Team Sky video would be the best one!
GO, TEAM SKY! 🦅
i absolutely love everything from your channel i've seen so far *which i've been binge looking at since i love pokemon and found you recently!* You are very entertaining and pretty cool Mikey i also want to ask, will there ever be a Plush For Grunty Boi?
This year I used a Roserade entirely because you showed their potential.
I ended up feeling dirty, and only let her fight last, because she murdered everything. Didn't matter what type it was, she murdered it. Blood soaked little rose.
15:50 its been like year or two but still I loved when Grunty Boy tell on his playthrough "Its level eleven"
The Shield randomizer is one of my favorites. It still makes me laugh.
Can I suggest a play through where you can only use level up moves, remove the oldest move when learning a new one. I got this idea by looking at the level up move set of umbreon in different gens. It's not good.
mikey i loved the ultra moon play through on your plays channel sm😭😭😭
One day I want there to be something in a future game where you can take Pokémon from from your party and box and make two teams and make them battle. That way you can put the team you had in a play through of soulsilver against the team you used in platinum for example. It doesn’t even have to be a full team I can just be one on one. I want to put my sun team against my shield team, my Samurott against my for Feraligator, and more
I mean you could make 2 pokemon showdown accounts and battle yourself.
@@TKHedgeHog Not as good as taking the Pokémon that are already there in the games and having a battle each other, but thanks for the idea though

Pretty incredible how far you have gotten in just one year cant belive the sun and moon no catching was a year ago wish you luck for 2022
For future challenges that are like the Dark type or your kid load out Pokémon, why not increase the enemies levels? I’ve been doing that lately in my games, and it’s made sweeping harder and let me use strong Pokémon that I’d usually restrict, like a Randomized Run where I started with Zweilous who had dragon rage. And lost a LOT.

Could be possible after Sinnoh is conquered since those legendaries could alter the properties of space and time
The best thing we got this year is Michael's beard.
Grass gym leader was definitely my favorite. Mainly because it reminded me of the time I did the exact same play-through. Very good Pokémon to use.

Mikey's beard goes further every video. I can't stop feeling weird when I see him like this, he looks like he's 10 years older.
26:54 had me dying lol
Lookin fresh with the beard mikey🔥
Nice virus link ypu got there
For Pokémon Emerald, I had the same team that Michael had but with a Swellow, Manectric, and Machamp added to complete and make a full team of six. I played Emerald using an emulator, so, I kinda coded Machoke's evolution because I never got to use a Machamp in a Generation III playthrough.
