Love watching your show every new episode!
I’m at Disney land right now
Me and my family rode splash mountain because we knew it was gonna close soon
Can you do a trailer impression for Cocaine Bear?
I am a racist, thank you very much!
what really sucks is that as you said, this film features Hattie McDaniel, the first black person to win an Oscar for her role in Gone With the Wind. By suppressing this movie, not only are they suppressing black history (which is American history), they are suppressing Hattie's legacy and contributions to this world. How is it not more racist to censor some of the first black actors allowed in Hollywood??
Excellent comment

@@JaxFPrime81 liberal logic at it finest
@Cody Hess yeah... That one blew my mind that they think removing all black people from advertising is some how going to end racism...
It also has James baskett who was the first black man to win an Oscar for this performance too. Erasing black history is what the left does best
As a disney cast member and someone who has always adored Princess and the Frog -- I'm thoroughly pissed. Splash Mountain has always been one of my favorite rides, and Tiana is one of my favorite Princesses. This is literally just tokenizing her. This ride has never been problematic before, and suddenly during the 2020 riots, Disney comes forward with this announcement. This is not saying "wow, Tiana is such a hardworking and inspiring princess, we want to honor her and her message!" No, it says "look at her, she's black. Aren't we so great? Don't you love us for this change? We are heros." Tiana deserves better. Not to mention, erasing Uncle Remus and his incredible stories is a form of erasing African stories. (And James Baskett got an honorary Oscar for his performance which is historic!!!) So Disney: screw you. We see through you.
For real. It's not an issue of Princess and the Frog finally getting an attraction - it's the issue of not only erasing one of the most popular rides at the park, but also doing it just to hand Tiana the leftovers and pat themselves on the back
Well said!
Good points
This is the perfect comment. Thank you.
Very well said, completely agree.
I saw this film in the UK as a young white boy, it was probably my first introduction to a person of colour on screen. My reaction was that for years I dreamt of having a friend like uncle Ramus. In short it was the greatest influence on my childhood to be completely accepting of other humans who might look different. The whole film was a wonderful representation of love and innocence.
I'm so sick of this race baiting. :( 😞
It’s interesting what the modern adults brain twists up. As a little girl, this man’s face and voice felt like sunshine to me. He felt like a warm character especially when he sang that song. If only we could always have those child-like eyes to see

Honestly, Disney acting like Song of the South doesn't exist is stupid. Just say something like "it was made in a less sensitive time. This film doesn't reflect our beliefs, but acting like it never happened would be wrong". Or something like that.
I guess that’s why certain folks want slavery erased from school “history” books and support the suppression of CRT-hypocrisy, no?

Honestly I think the more they try to supress something the more people will want to see it; and whether you like it or not, Song of the South is a piece of cinematic history that people should be able to see and form their own opinions on.
After Spain regained its independence from the Moors, they burned all record of their inferiority.
I think that allowing people to form their own opinions is something that is frowned upon.
If someone has an opinion that’s not “right” and offensive to anyone at all our fellow humans ruin their lives.
I was born in 1982 and they had re-released it briefly in theatres in the early 80s…never thought about anything racist or bad about it. It’s a beautiful story about a kind friendship that actually should be shown as a good thing that they were friends bc of kindness and not that they looked different. I swear everything is so bizarre now!!!!
I'm around your age and I also saw the 80s re-release with my grandparents. I LOVED Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit, and I sang Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah every day as a kid. It's crazy they are trying to cancel this.
Well it has a black person in your favorite occupation, so of course you'd love it ❤️
@@handsanitizer2457 occupation as in a friend? Then yes.
It was controversial at the time, you just weren’t aware of it because of your age. The movie was based on a collection of slave stories and there were plenty of people who didn’t like how the movie framed it as a series of lessons for a wealthy white kid. Also the black kid in it is just a minstrel stereotype, much number than the white kids to the point where he is constantly falling on his face when he tries to run as a gag. There’s a reason Disney hasn’t released it sense.
This is based on a real book chronicling real Black-American folklore, and its part of an oral storytelling tradition in Southern Black folk culture.
The real racism is the attempt to smother historical reality which honors the heritage of a people.
IKR ? Is Joel Chandler Harris racist? Wow Can't even have a historical setting anymore!

What the song of the south?
I find your comment racist. Only white people can look hard enough is what you're saying??? I KNEW IT!!!
I remember watching parts of this film as a kid.😡
I remember it being one of the most magical things I'd ever seen.
"Mr. Bluebird's on my shoulder...". Beautiful and classic.
Why is Disney so cucked?! If at all it has racist themes, I'm sure you'd have to go looking for them?
Uncle remus is a beloved lovely character. And that thing about black characters serving the destinies of white characters can even be found in modern movies--- It doesn't have to be racist unless you really want it to be!!
I still look up to Uncle Remus.
Thats how I feel about Backdoor Sluts 9. especially when it comes to looking "hard" enough.
As a Disney Parks fan, I have to say your take here is pretty on point for someone who has just researched the topic. Even though you’re reading the false leftist narratives surrounding Splash Mountain and Song of the South for the first time, you do an excellent job of calling them out.
Honestly, Disney is about to make one of the biggest mistakes in their history by closing Splash Mountain. Not just because it’s an excellent attraction, but because they’re doing so in the name of false ideologically driven narratives that seek to tarnish the legacies of actual African American folklore, trailblazing black actors and even Walt Disney himself.
Unfortunately, the ideologues have tightened their grip on Disney with Bob Iger’s return and there is no Elon in sight willing to save this once great company from what it’s become. Hopefully, we never loose sight of what was and are able to keep the memories alive in light of this utter destruction.
As a 16 year old who has gone to Disney World and Land more times than I can count, this makes me pretty mad. It's been rumored for a long while now but I honestly really didn't expect them to actually do it. Splash Mountain is such a classic. Disney was much better when I was younger. They had the Great Movie Ride, I didn't know what woke meant, they had just one day for sodomists rather than the whole year, etc. etc.. I can't believe Disney has fallen so far.
I agree! I’m 16 as well but I’ve only ever been to Disney World. I miss when I was little and we had the fast pass tickets and the fast pass booths. Technology and Wokeness has ruined Disney and the magic behind it.
Sodomists? Lol
@@camrynh7357 Yes I forgot about fast passes. Those were so much easier and so much better than whatever they have now. Genie+ I think? I don't know. They seem to change it like every few months now.

Why does everything have to be about racism these days honestly I’ve never experienced it or seen someone experience it in my life
Tell them breathing is racist. Taking air away from black people…let’s see what they do ;)
It's a supply and demand issue. There is low supply, so libs have to create it out of thin air to meet their demand for it.

@@Phisherman86 but sub-saharan Africans had slaves too
This is exactly why you MUST preserve physical media! Disney especially is erasing digital versions of their older content but they can't take away a physical disc from your home.
I purchased the laserdisc back in 1994 and will never part with it, especially in this age of cancel culture.
When I was a little girl, we had some large, illustrated books called the Disney Storybook Collections. The Uncle Remus stories were in one of them and they were my favorites, especially Briar Rabbit!
As much as I hate the retheming, this was planned long LONG AGO. But Disney didn't have a good enough excuse to do it.
So during the Summer of Love of 2020, they took advantage of all the BLM hysteria and to announce the retheming, and pretend it was them being "good allies" bla bla bla.
As for Song of the South... I have the VHS. Me, being European, never saw the issue with the film. It was pretty boring actually.
What I know is that the erasure of this film (based on popular black folktales apparently) also erases the accomplishment of its main actor - a black man. Which seems more racist than the film itself to me.
They don't know what they're doin.
Oh what a horrible bleak future we live in😔
It was not planned long ago, literally a year prior to the announcement Disney released 3 Song of the South plush toys and 2 splash mountain funko pop sets. Why would they create merchandise based on these characters that they wanted to phase out if they were planning a retheme?
The people calling the film racist are racist in of itself as when they see a black actor in a film set a long time ago, they automatically assume that they are talking about slavery
This movie was one of my most cherished childhood memories. I watched it on a regular basis with my great grandfather and great grandmother who lived through the Great Depression in Arkansas. They just need things to be mad over.

I saw this as a kid when I lived in England. I remember it being fun, with uncle Remus being a kindly grandfather figure who told stories in a way that brought them to life.
I grew up with that movie. I never even thought about Uncle Ramus being black as a kid. In my family shit like that never mattered. My mom used to sing along with the songs. It was a good part of my childhood.
I remember my grandparents had the Uncle Remus stories and read them to us when I was probably around 2 or 3. I remember loving those stories. Recently watched Song of the South and absolutely LOVE James Baskett's portrayal of Uncle Remus, not to mention his rendition of 'Zip-a-dee-doo-dah'.
My freshman college English teacher showed us Song of the South and told us we should be offended by it. They were molding us straight out of high-school. Never mind the context of the time. My censorship class was when I realized how screwed colleges are.

@@KurenaiTenka are you actually defending this film because an actor was proud of his portrayal of being a good slave?
That's like defending a film about a incest because one of the actors was proud of their performance.
This film makes light of the suffering and horror of slavery by depicting uncle Remus as a willing participant in the film.
Belle consented to her imprisonment, Remus was purchased.
How an actor feels about playing that character is irrelevant. And besides Casting directors pick who they think would be the best choice to "be" that character.

These are basically Aesop’s fables. As long as the context is explained, I plan to show this movie to MY kids and read the books to them.
I absolutely love the way you introduce all of your sponsors in a way that relates back to what you're talking about. On most channels I skip through the ads but you're so slick with yours I watch them all lol
I haven't finished the video yet but I had to say I loved "song of the South" when I was young, I still do. I love Uncle Remus. Now that I'm older I get that it kind of reminds us that as a country we have a little bit of a checkered past, But none of that is actually brought up in the film itself. Honestly I feel if we start cutting out the things that remind us of the past were doomed to repeat it one way or another in the future
After Spain regained its independence from the Moors, they burned all record of their inferiority.
I am kind of confused about your point, but not everything from our past has to be about how racist some people in it were. Now I could say that if you want to go there, then every one of those movies needs to be explicit that the Democrat party was the party of slavery and racism.
But fact is no, not all movies have to be about it. Thats like saying every movie about Africa needs to remind us how racist Africans are and that they still have slavery. But nobody at all would suggest that.
Or every movie about the Asians has to say the same thing because yes, they are even more racist than we were back then, and they still have slavery. Again, nobody would say that. There are bad things about human history by todays standards, and there are good things. You dont have to mention the bad things every time you mention good things.
This doent make people ignore or forget bad things happened. That is what history books are for. They also have plenty of movies for that already.
Exactly, instead of censoring bad things in our past, we should be teaching the younger generations about what happened, why, and how we have become better than we were so that the wrongs are not repeated.
The problem is that it would encourage critical thinking, and we all know how "unfashionable" that is nowadays

Was never allowed to watch Princess in the Frog because of "Voodoo", but I watched Song of the South a bunch of times. Nothing wrong with it. It always seemed sweet. Uncle Remus seemed like a cool grandpa/dad type who told stories.
I'd have to rewatch it of course, I'm sure there were some things that didn't age very well, but that's the truth with most older movies.
Song of the South was the first movie I ever saw in the theatre. I think they did a rerelease in the mid 80s, because that's when I saw it when I was either 4 or 5.

They call it racist and then proceed to talk trash about white people openly. Then there are idiots who think they'll EVER be satisfied and join civilization with the rest of us. If someone can't see the downward trajectory they've been on for a few decades now, then they're blind.
How can people ever learn from the past if we try to eliminate it
They don't care at ALL. If it's WHITE, it HAS TO GO! They're trying to tear down statues of our founding fathers. If anyone doesn't see they're trying to take away everything America has created, they're a fool. They WILL NEVER stop and the people who pander to them will be the first ones they eliminate if they had their way.
I shouldn't be surprised by a culture that went so far left. They changed the name of segregation to culturally safe spaces. Just wild to me
Song of the South is not available anywhere because it is racist BUT The Birth Of A Nation (the silent film from 1915, not the 2016 one) is available for free here on youtube.... make that make sense, and it's not even age restricted
It breaks my heart seeing this ride being rethemed. As much as I love Princess and the Frog, this ride held a special place in my heart that reminded me of better times.
“We all want progress. But progress means getting nearer to the place where you want to be. And if you have taken a wrong turning, then to go forward does not get you any nearer. If you are on the wrong road, progress means doing an about turn and walking back to the right road; and in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man.”

The only good thing about re-theming the ride instead of making Tiana a new one is the old rides never break down! However the new animatronics they’ll add will probably negate this advantage… so, keep Splash and give Tiana something new! (However, the current Splash animatronics at Disneyland CA need an overhaul anyway) Also, Disneyland’s, CA, Splash is also slated for closure on a undisclosed date.
I’m almost certain my grandma had that movie on DVR when I was little! I don’t know for sure but seeing the clips of it made me remember watching it at her house 😂
THANK YOU!!! Been saying all this for years!!!!
I have a few not so popular opinions. As a die-hard fan of The Princess and the Frog, I am happy it's getting more recognition through the new theming. On the other hand, I do understand the backlash behind changing the theme when it's one of the few things we have of Song of the South. I know there's a lot of unfortunate implications in that film, but I also believe that denying what happened in history only does more harm than good.
Song of the South was always my dad’s favorite Disney movie growing up (he was born 1960), and he made sure we all watched it as kids. I think I was like 8 or something when he bought me a pirated dvd copy for my birthday 😂 I’ve always loved the film because it was a special bond I had with my dad.
Why is this news to you now?
Disney announced well over two years ago that they were going to be retheming this to the Princess and the Frog…
When the ride is about to close to be rethemed, two years after they announced all this NOW you’ve noticed?!?
This is a huge problem that even happened with "Encanto" and now "Wednesday" on Netflix: their theories are canon, no questions asked.
With SOTS, it was that Remus was definitely talking about slavery.
In "Encanto", it's that Luisa is trans and Delores is autistic.
In "Wednesday", it's that Wednesday is autistic and she's being idolized as a demonized autistic person.
None of these are ever canon in the films. They are never even *explicitly* implied. These are all fan THEORIES that are pushed forward as fact, and God forbid you disagree with them.
I'm not gonna feel guilty for not agreeing with a theory.
I don't know about Wednesday because if you know about the dark comedy the franchise always uses, but parts of the show has been directed by Tim Burton, so that explaines a lot.
Since Disney lockes away it's movies behind pay walls (Disney+) i don't know 100% about Delores but i see what you mean, she is a character of her own! i have a stronger feeling with Dory from 'Finding Nemo' & 'Finding Dory'

I remember a while ago when this was announced (some of my family and friends work with Disney for travel) and before we even knew how it was being re-themed, it was known that it was being done because Splash Mountain was centered around a "racist story." A few months later, we found out it was being transformed into a Princess and the Frog-themed ride. As someone who has been to Disney a ton, I can guarantee that absolutely no one of any age or race standing in line for that ride is thinking about how the story is racist. We all just want to ride for the sake of entertainment.
Of course it is. Everything is nowadays, it seems.
That's because people give them free stuff when they complain. Plus they get to use it as an excuse of why they're failures in their lives.
First time I've watched a full video from Brett Cooper and fantastic energy!
Song of the South was my favorite Disney movie. I laughed so much with Bur Rabbit and me and my mom often sang Zippadeedodah
I seen song of the south. It's not racist. It's kind of boring but it has a lot of historical value. In fact the actors enjoyed being in the film. The little boy is also the voice of Peter Pan btw. Also it tells actual black folktales. As much as I like the princess & the frog, it is based on a European fairytale where song of the south has original black stories in it. Something disney no longer does apparently.
Im glad a content creator has come out to speak the truth about this innocent wholesome film it celebrates African culture above everything
New Orleans resident here, & correct we have no mountains
I love watching Song of the South back to back with So Dear to my Heart
⬆️⬆️❤️........
We used to watch The Song of The South when I was in elementary school back in the 90's. I grew up in a very racially balanced county right outside Washington DC. Actually, at that time, the county I lived in had the richest population of black Americans in any county in the United States... And nobody found it racist. Our music teacher was an old black lady and half my class was black. We all loved that movie... What changed? Why is it racist now?
Why does it seem that no one ever looks at history with context? 😕
Because they're emotionally based people with little in the way of intelligence.

I loved that movie as a child! I can’t believe that’s the movie you were referring to in the beginning of the segment.
lulz taking that promotion game to the next level with home propane delivery lol "brought you to you hank hill's propane and propane accessories" lol
I LOVE this movie! It has such a good story about a slave reaching freedom. He is telling the boy about his experience by changing the people into animal characters.
I always thought of Uncle Remus as the kindly neighbor Grandfather figure. Someone the kids could come to and learn about the world in safety and fun. I was able to find this movie at a fair this last year. I am starting to buy more of these movies so my young relatives can watch them.
I loved that movie when I was a kid in the 80's and the song Zipede Zooda. I also love the Princess and the 🐸
I didn't know much about Song of the South, but I loved this Briar Rabbit book as a kid, made my parents read it to me and do the accents hahah they hated it
I 100% agree with your take and the way cancel culture works makes me sad
Can we please stop trying to cancel everything just because a very small group of people decide what is right/wrong for the entire rest of the world
Right, I’m tired of a small amount people dictating things.
one thing I like about brett is that she talks at the same speed and volume when doing her ads as when she is normally talking, versus when michael or ben do their ads they seem totally scripted
The song zip a dee do da was used in a later Disney movie, Life with Mikey. There is Disney trying to rebrand a classic.
Coming up next on Brett Cooper Off the Clock: "Song of the South"! After that: "Basmati Blues"
