My brother and I just watched “Atlantis” on a sick day. It’s fantastic. It has Disney’s most “diverse” set of characters and a badass Disney Princess. None of it is forced or self-conscious. No need for woke politics or virtue signaling, just great writing, great art, great performances. Disney has fallen so far.
Atlantis is one of my favorite Disney movies

I remember when Disney just told children's stories. Any political or social commentary was done quietly. Now they try to push it on everyone.
When I was a kid, in the 70s, we loved Sunday night because Mutual of Omaha's wild kingdom and The Wonderful World of Disney. It's a real shame kids today won't know that joy.
YES! they tossed in adult things, as hints. Be it jokes or some political thing..for the parents to enjoy...like all kid shows did...It went over the kids heads, and when they were older the kids could enjoy these same things to, as it had rewatch value you..BUT NOW they trying to drag kids into politicals! NO!!!

That's why I still love *Hayao Miyazaki* films, each of his movies expressed a strong theme of respecting the natural environment, but they did without beating it over a viewer's head.
Yeah agree, the eastern animation, especially japanese are more focused on the xploration of the nature, their culture, and their norms.

Ghibli films were the first Japanese animation I was exposed to and it's the reason I grew to be an artist and aspiring animator! Still love My Neighbor Totoro
I went and saw this movie with my boyfriend as a date and both of us were sitting in the theater wondering what we were watching. The story felt like it was trying to be Encanto with its story but the characters and story were so all over the place that I didn’t find myself rooting for anyone. There was no tension for the “heroes” of the story to succeed and everyone just felt like a one dimensional figure. Which is such a shame because I really liked the animation style they were going for with the more stylized faces. I remember when I was a kid and Tangled, Wall-E, Brave and so many other great films came out that felt magical and inspirational but now I’m here as a young adult, an aspiring animator who wants to tell meaningful stories and help to bring wonder to children and adults again with this art form and it’s being poisoned with all of these woke ideologies and political agendas. It almost feels like the executives have clipboards with check boxes that they cross off for making sure every “politically correct” ideology is represented because God forbid someone gets offended or feel underrepresented.

Same! I'm aspiring to be an animator too and I even have an animated series I've been working on since since the 5th grade. It's such a shame to see how Popular corporations like Disney are know using a media used to entertain with good stories with good moral ethics for kids, to preach ideologies and push political agendas. Amen! Funny thing is,. even my liberal leaning moderate parents thought it was BS too since Disney always focuses on LGBTQ+ (which is very unstable in itself btw) and Disney only likes to show certain minorities!

The reason many liked encanto considerably more than these other recent "woke" films is that the focus in encanto was actually something kids could understand which is family. It was relatable to everyone because its focus was on the family and not some controversial topics or politics while these woke films were made to please the "woke" people on the internet and they didn't even do it correctly.

I'm so sad about how bad Disney has gotten. My childhood was full of beautiful Disney animated films that my whole family still quotes to this day. It's gone downhill so fast. Bring back true Disney movie magic for our children's sake! #knowyouraudience

Theyre doing it on purpose too. They literally have taken the movie that kickstarted the Disney renaissance and race swapped it KNOWING it would polarize and cause controversy. You reap what you sew, and their latest earnings report doesn't bode well for them.
I used to think this way, then I grew up and learned about the peen they put in The Little Mermaid box art, and the word "Sex" in The Lion King, and the nudie poster from The Rescuers (not sure if it was Down Under or the first one). Maybe when Walt Disney was still alive it was fine, but they've been pulling this nasty groomer crap for _decades,_ and I'm ready to never hear about them ever again. It used to be I'd get excited at the prospect of going to Disney World, but last time we were in Florida, just the thought of going left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm #DoneWithDisney, and I say good riddance.

As someone approaching 30 who grew up on OG Disney movies like Lion King, Mulan, Marry Poppins, ect., it's just astonishing to see how the political agenda is being pushed so hard. That was the thing about Disney movies, the kids loved the animation and the stories were actually really deep for the parents. Something I really miss, definitely not what Walt had in mind.

I literally went to watch it with my friends cuz we were curious and we ended up talking through all the movie and spending time with other things because that’s how much the plot sucked. Honorable mention that the theatre was empty and we were the only ones there💀

Treasure Planet and Atlantis are amazing movies that are amazingly underrated
I worked at Disney World and the CEO switch-out was due to Bob Chapek forcing a policy that would directly reduce job security or pay (I forgot the details at this point and I wasn’t working there anymore) resulting in a mass quitting of employees to the point where almost only College Program participants remained and were still overworked and not allowed to take classes (which was why I personally left to finish my degree). I highly recommend looking it up as it is a fascinating look at what business leaders should NOT do and the parks are still paying for it months later.
This was a brilliant move on Disney's part. They can tell all the woke to kick rocks. The people have spoken with thier money.

The last good movie Disney made was Encanto. There was almost no political theme in the movie, and it was genuinely emotional with well built characters and AMAZING music.
Fr! As a hispanic, I actually felt like I was looking at myself in the movie. I felt special. There were no woke ideologies, and nothing really political. It was genuine representation with a killer soundtrack and stunning animation to go with it! 10/10
I kid you not I resonate with Pepa so deeply and it is SO COMFORTING to see her family care for her like mine does. It is so often that the emotional character type is represented only as an annoyance or a burden (or just a joke)

To be honest, "mid" is a great accomplishment for Disney these days.
Here's the thing: the problem that I see most of the time is that when they make a gay character, they make it look like that's their only identity. Characters are not supposed to be that two-dimensional. On top of that, they make it feel like "you're sitting through a lecture that you didn't really want to go to."
That's not the problem dude. The problem is that sexuality should not be in children's films.
To be fair, those that identify with the LGBTQIAMAP agenda basically are their genitalia. Their lives revolve around what their genitalia is, what they think their genitalia should be, what they like to do with their genitalia and with whom.

My seven year old daughter saw the trailer for this movie in Italian and asked immediately if we could take her to the cinema. We surprised her the day after it came out here in Italy and took her. We fell asleep. It was a *horrible* film and I'm so glad she didn't see the "woke" parts.

Honestly, I loved Strange World. Of course I also lived high school science and Terry Pratchett so when got to the near peak of the film I went "this such a cool way to teach body biology and ANK MORPORK!!!" I called my sister and we debated on just how much the writers read Discworld books before making that little reveal.

In addition Burke announced that 50% of characters and content would be from underrepresented groups.

I guess encanto’s gonna be disneys last good movie. I remember actually feeling something and was blown away by the music. I feel like a lot of people could relate to it too. The family member who has too much on their plate, the one people expect to be perfect, the one who’s always in the background, the one everyone misunderstands etc. without saying their names you could guess which ones I’m talking about if you seen the movie and you could relate to them and see how toxicity in the family hurts everyone. I guess that’s where Disney decided to put their gravestone. At least it was my favorite Disney movie since the mid 2000’s like with ratatouille, up and WALL·E

I also think those at the top are not as clever as we were originally led to believe. If they can't see by now they are not appealing to the majority then they're not doing their jobs. They cannot still believe social media like Twitter is a good indicator of their market. If their marketers keep making that claim they should be forcing them to produce their data. I note their world box office is dropping below US figures when the world having a larger population usually doubles it.. Yet not for the last few films including BP2. Another question the studios should be looking to answer.
Disney lost me years ago when they decided to keep even their older content at full price, limited the amount of copies they put out, and then locked it in their "Disney vault" for an amount of time instead of continuing to print copies of things people wanted.

I know people who bought every single re-release and ended up with three and four copies of the same movie but one was 'silver' and one was 'gold' (with one new feature that wasn't on anything else) and whatever and I never got the point of spending that money... except maybe as like a collector's item thing and sell it for $400 in 50 years, but by then DVDs will be like cassettes
@@gravetiger9333 Yeah, I'll never understand that collector mentality. I just want to be able to watch a movie when I want, how I want, with no restrictions. With DVD's I can rip the movie and have that experience, but I'm not willing to pay more than $15 even if it's new, and for single movies, less is preferable. In fact, most DVD's I have I bought from $5 multi-pack dump bins.

I went and saw this movie with my family. I was also with some younger kids who are way too young to be exposed to this crap. As soon as the boy in the movie started flirting with this other boy I got out my phone and went straight to this channel. My grandmother literally watched the trailer and you can see there’s nothing that shows anything about lgbtq in this movie!! It’s literally a trap. Anyways Great video brett!

I feel sorry for your generation. I was a kid in the 1970s. There was no Disney channel, but there was a weekly series called, “The Wonderful World of Disney.” Every week, they showed a different Disney movie, and they were great! If Disney offered a “Disney Classics” channel with nothing made after 1980, I would watch that. I would love to see you and Scheller watch some old Disney movies from the 60s and 70s - live action, animated, or both.

I left the western animated filmindustry years ago and well, my daughter followed me to manga and anime. Yes not all is perfect with anime, but I`ll be damned, if they are not miles ahead of providing some great charakters and ideas to look up to. Even ventured into eastern Europe stuff and I was surprised how lively the scene is there too. So, look for treasures ahead of you, waiting to be dicovered.

I thought as I grow older something is broken in me, because I HAD THE SAME "NOTHING" FEELING about a lot of films, series and such as you do. Empty checklists, passive-agressive remarks, twisted character types and so on, the only thing matters is "representation"..."suprisingly" with old characters and movies ppl didn't had issue to connect with or identify, since it was not about physical traits usually, but the whole mentality

I thought Strange World was actually a good movie. I’m grateful they started adding lgbtq, and different colored people, instead of everyone just being the say sexuality and everyone being the same color, it’s kind of.. boring.
Frozen and Moana were the last good Disney movies. Everything else has been a flash in the pan, a flop, or PC!

I grew up watching Disney in the 70's. No Cable, no dish , just 4 channels. On Sunday at 6pm The wonderful world of Disney would be on. It featured all kinds of movies made by Disney. Some animated and some not but, as a child watching them, I can assure you that the only thing I remember about watching those shows was that my parents watched it with me and everyone found it entertaining. ❤️
Antennas with a digital TV or convert boxer with analog TV can pick up a lot of channels in many areas. A lot of channels also have reruns to watch old shows.
To anyone who thinks it’s because old fashioned people don’t care about the environment or culture look at the success of films like the ones by Studio Ghibli. People enjoy those films regardless of ecological messages because they do it organically like in “Princess Monokae” or “Spirited Away” and most importantly have heart and and they therefore make you feel something those same passionate feelings.
Amish are old fashion and pollute less than these executives flying around in their jumbo jets.

Disney probably would have become the richest and most powerful company in the world had they just stuck to good stories, good animation, good effects, and focusing on entertainment rather than political sludge. It's a shame to see what once was a gem... fall apart, but now it's fully deserved

My friends mom took her young daughter to watch this not knowing it was going to have that content in it. She got up and took her daughter and said they had to go home because she wasn’t feeling good (said that to her young daughter so she wouldn’t have to explain the whole situation in the theater in middle of movie). Said she wished she wouldn’t have wasted money on that indoctrination.
I would have asked for my money back. I would do the same thing if I took my child and be conned into watching a new animation with a forced agenda

@@paulitastic2 basically it's an extremely average, low-effort, basic, cookie-cutter family "blockbuster". Everything about it is uninspired, like we've been here before. The writers were even sure to include EVERY minority group under the sun, not because they actually care about giving us minorities the diversity we deserve, but because they know that including a certain demographic will lead to the members of that demographic giving them millions of dollars.

I agree. Tangled was the last great Disney movie. There has been some good ones (Moana, Jungle Book 2016), but everything since has just been bland.
Yup 2000s had some underrated classics…atlantis lost empire, treasure planet (my fave), emperors new groove, lilo and stitch. Theyve completely lost the concept of storytelling and its tragic.

I agree. My kiddos watched Disney movies, we just didn't get super into all the commercialism of it. We didn't have the plastic backpacks & not even that many of the toys(although my son had plenty of Cars movie cars).
My younger kiddos watch the older movies more than the new ones-Lilo & Stitch is a favorite at my house, as is Aladdin, Lion King, etc.
We're not huge fans of modern Disney, sad. End of an Era, I guess!

I own my dream car, a 2002 Subaru WRX wagon. All the car guys I’ve ever spoken to about it are either surprised I went for the wagon over the sedan, or start asking me about how I’m going to up the power and it I’m ready for it to break down… None of them expect me to tell them that I like it just as it is, with a few specific touches of my own. Besides a Borla exhaust, I’ve pretty much kept it stock for reliability, and even restored the interior to get that stock 2002 feel… Wouldn’t trade it for the world, as much as I’d love an STI. What I have is perfect to me, and fulfills a younger me’s dream.
My stepdad went with my little brother and his friends to see it, he knew the reviews were bad but it was all set for kids to see the movie so no way to back out. 20 minutes into the movie my mother received a message from him with a simple ‘wyd’ 😂😂
20 minutes is an introduction to everything that is happening, no action yet so what you said literally did not dictate what the whole film was going to be about. At least watch the film and gather your own opinion before saying shit wow

The first review you read was LITERALLY why I could not make it through a quarter of the film. You don't tell a story by shoving words, lines, or a message down people's throats, and that's what this movie tried to do.
