    ive played over 2000+ hours of the monster hunter games, and i can say without a doubt that this video covers practically all the basic essentials for understanding the beginning of the game, and its basic mechanics.
    fantastic video, this gets the veterans seal of approval!

      if i simply said "I play lots of monster hunter and this video is great" then it wouldnt really mean anything, would it?
      i stated the number of hours ive played over the course of this series as a whole, because then anyone that reads it would see it and go "This guy must know what hes talking about! i should pay attention to this video if its so highly praised"

    • @MinkyMikaMeow
      @MinkyMikaMeow 8 років тому +6

      I played 800 in MH4U and 600 in MH3.
      I've spend 80 hours in MHGen so far, and the game's been out a week and a half.
      I also have 365+ days played in several MMOs.
      It's far from inconceivable to have played the MH series for 2000+ hours. In fact, it's the norm for people who are really into a game series like MH.

    As someone who has 500 hours in MH, this is a really great video that I can show my friends. MH is such a great series, but it can be impenetrable and that turns off so many people.

      if you love boss battles, and you love grinding, and you love doing both of those things while in co-op, and you enjoy SKILLED combat, this is the game for you.
      though itll take you 2-3 hours before you fight anything substantial, since its wise to do some early game gathering and tiny monster hunting before you fight a big guy, healing items, ammo, the essentials for practically every hunt.
      but once you get past those first couple of hours and get stuck in, youll be itching to fight your first monster.

      I just got Generations Ultimate for the switch and with World and Rise I beat those games in 2-3 days but I got MHGU almost a month ago and im still on 1 star hub quests. the monsters take 30-40 minutes to kill since their HP is not scaled for single player and no one in 2021 right after MHR has released wants to fight a low rank hub quest lagombi in MHGU so I really feel like I have just wasted $80 which sucks since I can't refund it so im really trying really hard to get into the game but rn it kinda sucks.

      Mariah Pohl you can hit monsters in the air, and when you do you may be able to mount them to do a lot of damage and knock them down leaving them open for more attacks, aerial style make getting up in the air to mount monsters easier.

    Small tip from a vet for anyone wishing to play long sword: watch out for your massive reach when performing the spirit blade combo when playing with friends.
    I’ve pissed off a lot of people by being careless of where I was standing when performing some combos. This is because you can trip your buddies. Stick to the edge of the tail at all times and make a habit to be responsible for getting it to come off. Leave the head for the hammer player.
    For all new players: In Gen this may be fine, I’ve heard, but in other games... A player mounting a monster is NOT a free opportunity to hit it as you can mess up the mount sequence.

      There are a lot of things that could of been clarified a little more as not to discourage people from certain aspects of the game. That and recommending the long sword to beginners? That is against a lot of mh players because long swords online can be absolutely horrendous.

    • @JwhudexNLS
      @JwhudexNLS 7 років тому

      He also made some mistakes such as saying that sword and shield has tremendous defensive capabilities even though it has the second worst shield in the game due to chip damage. As an SNS main of over 400 hunts let me tell you, the shield is for roars and and emergencies only. He also gives some other bad advice, however over all the guide is pretty great for any new players.

    I just got the game today from GameStop for 24.99 and as a new comer to the series as a whole, I'm very surprised at the depth of this hand held game. It's got core mechanics from your typical MMO like WoW, combat similar to a Souls game, and crafting / loot upgrades like D3 and the other 2 mentioned games. I'm happy that gear is essential to getting stronger, and not your level. It's nice not having to manage stat distribution as a newcomer. But, I made a mistake not mentioned in the video, if you have quest items for both sub and main quests, make sure you send the sub quest items first BEFORE main quest items since doing the opposite results in the quest ending and your sub quest items not getting cashed in. Also, if you manage to get quest items from a quest you're not currently working on you're able to turn in non quest items for some extra cash. So from the return item box work your way from the bottom to the top basically. But I've been glued to the screen since I got home from work and it's 3:30 AM lol. How u haven't played this game before is beyond me since I have a lengthy background with 7 years of WoW under my belt, plenty of D3 characters that are min / maxed, and several Dark Souls 3 / Bloodborne characters with end game builds. Can't wait to stop doing these fetch / gathering quests and slay some awesome looking monsters to create an absurdly large great sword to decimate even bigger monsters to get items to craft an EVEN bigger great swords the size of skyscrapers to fight monsters the size of Godzilla 😁 something tells me I'm gonna dump a lot of hours into this game with my addictive personality...

    • @JonxNgo
      @JonxNgo 7 років тому +1

      Actually make sure you read your items from the return box. Sometimes the main quest item can be sent with a courier. So turn in sub quest items first (if you have em), turn in non quest items for extra money, THEN the main quest items to wrap it all up. At least that's what I've figured out. But please feel free to correct me in a constructive manner. Again, complete new comer to the series as a whole! Also, I rolled a female character and named her Asa Akira ;) surprised that name wasn't taken. Unless online mode is based off your Nintendo ID log in and not your character name. Guess I'll find out when I get in a group

    • @foxecleopatra199
      @foxecleopatra199 7 років тому

      Jonathan Ngo non quest items are automatically cashed after completion but it's good you figured that out that's why you don't see poop tongue in your box or pouch

    • @JonxNgo
      @JonxNgo 7 років тому

      kyle grant true but I've had a gathering quest where the quest was a rare fish. Since the fish is considered a normal item, if I sent it to the courier I would have zero to turn in to complete thequest

      There is one thing I wish MH games would incorporate and that is weapon specific moves.
      By that I mean a bone longsword would start with a limited moveset (typical standard LS moveset) and as its upgraded to different tiers while also depending on specific weapon path that LS would gain new unique moves or move bonuses (the first thing that comes to mind is a Rathalos LS' Spirit Slash combo would change to more violent circular slashes that leave some flame trails and can be "spammed" like the SlashAxe's repeating chops while something like the pole sword looking Jhen LS have slower but stronger swings should you land hits with the bladed part).
      You can never have too many moves in a MH game, this would make hunters more distinguished from one another making each new random player encounter a unique experience.

  • @Pascll
    @Pascll 8 років тому +12

    correction: when monsters are weak thier attacks will stay the same, monsters attacks WILL NOT weaken when theya re enar death, and monsters can still be very deadly. monsters attacks weaken only when they are tired, and they will go eat so they are deadly again and have more stamina. blunt weapons like the hammer can make monsters tired more quickly. a monster also doesnt get tired when its weak.
    sorry I just had to correct you, as saying monsters attacks are weaker and are les dangerous when there weak is false information, but you definitly did not give false information on purpose. everyone makes mistakes, but try not to confuse limping with monsters getting tired

    My only complaint with the guide is the description of the Hunting Horn. The buffs are an additional gimmick of the weapon to boost the HORN’S dps and gameplay. It just so happens to also give them to teammates. Hunting Horn applies the most exhaustion damage of any weapon, and the second most stun. Depending on your style it does massive dps. Also its faster than dual blades once you do the self-improvement buff.

    I don't need this video because I've been playing MHGen for a while. I just watched to see how well you explained things. I'm a person who needs very specific details to understand things. But If I was a beginner, I would understand this completely! Nice job! Liking the Tigrex in the thumbnail, too. I love that monster (Not my favorite monster, but it's in the top 3.)

    actually the sword and shield has much less end lag on all of it's attacks then the dual blades, so there is MUCH less risk when jumping up to a monster, attacking it, and getting out of harms way. The DB has loads of end lag on it's attacks especially when in demon mode.

    hunting horn isn't for just playing music to boost friends stats the way he said send like he doesn't exactly use it or understand it that well. boosting stats is a big thing but boosting friends or teammates is just a bonus is mostly about what boosts fit the build you want for yourself mostly

I'm starting with the long-sword because of your recommendation and it was my favorite weapon in rise.

    Great video, really informative, well-written and thus easy to watch through.
    Although it might be a little bit too much information spoken too fast for a player that never touched a MH game before in his life, so it might require several watch-throughs to fully take in all the information that is provided. Aside that this comes very close to perfect for a beginners guide i'd say.

    Interesting that you say the Long Sword is beginner friendly. When I started Monster Hunter back with MHF2 I tried the Long Sword and I was absolutely terrible with it. I started using Sword and Shield, Gunlance and Dual Blades. It wasn't until after I reached the 5 star quests that I started to get the hang of Great Swords and Long Swords, but once I finally got the hang of them they became my favorite weapons :)
