I Hunted Rathalos In Every Generation

- The order of MHGU before MHW was deliberately chosen. MHGU is technically just the English version of MHXX which already released in 2017 on the Switch and 3DS and it was only the expansion of MHX from 2015. So, when it comes to the time of development MHW's Rathalos has to come later. Also, MHFU release was 2007 in Japan, March 2008 in the West. Minor mistake. Hope you enjoy the video!
We played almost all of the MH games since the beginning but we don't have all of our old consoles anymore or sufficient means of recording especially for consoles like PS2, PSP, and Wii /WiiU. So big thanks to these guys for sharing their saves so we could record all of the games!

if this video gets 10K likes we'll do more of these with different old school monsters!
The Monoblos one would be a very short video. 😂
Egg steal quest in every generation
Save yourself the pain and dont do diablos. Gen 1 and 2 is like 1 hit ever 2 mins. Curretly playing unite and 4 horns quest took me 40 mins cuz he spent 25 of them underground.
Ohh neat! Looks like a series is about to begin!
@@Mercman1010Don't worry, he's went through much worse
classic gen 1 rathalos knocking me down with wind over and over then flying around the map doing nothing for 3 minutes. peak fight
Ha this was probably the best thing Japan people played BACK THEN, but now it likely games this old and chalky. Will be played as like, emotional and nostalgia games cause while I started at world, some of ya started then. 😊
I remember the ridiculous side check hitbox and the random moonwalking monsters haha
imagine the Rathalos did that in MHNow lol
@@n0ret82100 Hp gone
Rathalos being the real king of the sky because he never fucking stop flying. Running out of flash bomb is the worst feeling.
It only took 17 years, but they finally made a Rathalos fight that was better than “tolerable”.
Finally a good fight
Think it was more than tolerable by gen 4 bar azure Rath
@@bri1085 Ohhhh maaaan, Gen 4 Azure Rath was quite annoying.
@@CarrotM15 dont forget 4u pink rathian, which is stupidly fast idk why
@@alderwield9636 Was that the insta-charge or insta flip or something? I remember Garuga having something like that.
"Hunted Rathalos from every generation- while wearing its skin"
This exactly what i thinking
Ye lol
Savage
Can’t ever go wrong with attack up builds
How many rathalos’ must you hunt for a full set of armor and a weapon of any type? 🤔
Comedic highlights:
3:14 - Hunter turns towards the camera as if to say "Get a load of this male wyvern"
11:20 - Roared out of the current zone
15:50 - Paralyzed out of a GS's True Charged Slash
I came to comment about the paralysis lmao. That's peak nuisance small monster behavior right there 😂
Worst part is it seems like he accidentally walked into the attack.
forgot about the 2 missed flash bombs cos flash bomb reg
Tha missing GS charge will always be monster hunter classics
Gajalakas recently ended Akantorex's no cart run btw 😂
Seeing a fellow Great Sworder get such a wonderfully-lined-up TCS taken away... it breaks my heart. :(
Honestly, when you look back to the 1st generation, MH actually done a pretty good job with the limitation of tech at the time.
So true. I was baffled that first gen looked that good (especially compared to the games released on PSP and DS)
@@lurakin88I'm baffled by the jump in quality just between MH1 and Tri! Night and day, truly.
No
As someone who started in world, i never realized that damage numbers on hits were new.
I didn’t realize that until you pointed it out
There's a lot of new stuff going on. No need for paintballs anymore, you can walk while using items now, You can change weapons during a hunt. I started with 3 Ultimate and went back to Freedom 2 on PSP. It's so much more fun now. The freedom of movement and realistic environments are.... * chef's kiss *
World was the first real evolution of monster hunter since 2.
Iv been playing since the first game.
So do you think they will add in enemies hp bar?
@@ryuu0013 No, it’s kind of a tradition that Monster Hunter games don’t do that
It's amazing the jump in visuals from 4 to 5. Can't wait for MHWilds!
4U on Citra with HD textures and enhanced resolution looks amazing aswell.
I mean 1s a handheld game the other is a console game
I would expect nothing less
world was a big glow up for sure !
MH Online (CH)
Yeah it honestly looks so incredibly bad in 5, seriously. I'd make the argument that they're so bad, that even TRI's possibly look better, despite being incredibly low-poly, with 3U through GU (including 4U, of course) DEFINITELY looking better, not even a question about it. It's actually just that bad in all of 5th gen, in my honest opinion.
Very very few will understand how impressive that first flash bomb is.
And how damn bright it is xD
what you even on about? that was just a flash bomb, you can dodge rathalos poison attack with a roll if you time it right, that is actually impressive done right
@@goth-_-880 I assume its because everything in mh1 had fudged hitboxes.
Shit that flash bomb blew up clear to the raths right side at what looked like MORE than a 45 degree angle, its impressive coz i really think it shouldn't have worked at all
@@kilowhiskyforge43371st and 2nd gen flash bomb was so OP, if im not mistaken it'll work as long as it flashed around radius 150° in front of the monster. And it doesn't have penalty, 1st flash, 2nd flash and so on still take effect on monster with the same duration, starting from 3rd gen it have penalty, even flashed garuga GU only took effect 3 second after i flashed it more than 20 times (using cheat) but 1st and 2nd gen you can flash monster 10000 times and the duration still same.
Sorry for bad english
That TCS interrupted by the Gajalaka is a mood
Average Greatsword moment… 😢
I remember my first time beating Rathalos in MH1 took over 40 minutes. The amount of downtime you get as he just flies around the map is insane
very true, I still remembered using the Sentinel sword and slashing it's belly until the time almost ran out😂
And that’s only if you remembered to paintball him lol
that was an actual challenge, the feeling of satisfaction was tremendous
It’s crazy how much their roars have changed over the years
Yeah 5th gen made Rathalos sound worse imo. But from what little we hear of the Wilds one it seems to have returned and Rathalos itself is full of more colour than 5th gen.
@@nuke2099okay good, I’m not the only one who thought he looked and sounded like he used to. I really hope this means they gave him his old road back. I started with World so I’m used to his new roar but damn, his old roar was so sick. I first heard it when I stumbled across the 10th anniversary size comparison video years ago when I had no idea what monster hunter was. When Rathian did the roar after Yian Kut-Ku, even kid me was like “omg that road is awesome.”
I can easily feel that Gen1 is really painful to fight. but damn, that moment he hovering far behind the tree is really amazing and lore accurate for a predator in the sky.
That’s really nice how we can see the game development along the years, the new mechanics being added to the game and also how the passe is getting faster on every gen
That paintball miss at the start brought back soooooo many memories; especially when the charge followed!
Love it! ❤❤
The way he and some other wyverns insta-charge in MH1 is crazy. The final village boss Monoblos felt easier than all of them because he actually winds up his charge.
the way you have to change the camera view at zone 9 is very nostalgic 2:17
I started the game from MHU (In my case, it was franchised as Monster Hunter 2 in Asian region).
Curious about the difference between 1st gen and 2nd gen, and that surprising camera angle feels clusterphobic.
Oh lord I never realised just how fast the combat in Rise was. But seeing World and Rise back to back... goddamn. That thing's on CRACK
Ratha in world and rise got more move and move faster..the pace will be faster than old gen rathalos😂😂😂
It's on crack and that's why it's pretty divisive, yeah. Something different is fine though imo!
@@GastricProblemsHaverI started playing rise this month as my first mh game and insect glaive is the only thing I can play, I hope wilds won't be a rude awakening for me
@@naufalap Rise is generally easier because there are more things you can do + various powerful options but the movelists are way freaking bigger than older games so the learning curve is way more frontloaded
@@GastricProblemsHaverI think world is a bit easier
Same, i started Mh on PS2, Online, cause i'm in France, i maybe have already played with some of you back then !
I remember 4 horns, Claw day (Huuuge), the duo (troublesome pair, that i even farm Offline) with the spear lock, and the coming of the Fatalis !
Thanks for the memory, great content !
I laughed way too hard at 15:53 🤣🤣
Those damned Gajalakas
Shakalaka 😂
it was so painfull
My wife came from the other room to ask why I was laughing about lol
Happens to the best of us...
0:43 every Hammer experience ever
This monster not only got more and more good-looking across the various generation, but its fight also became better and better.
Capcom did a wonderful job.
Took me a second to realize you made that first gen fight look as first gen as possible lmao
Yeah there really isnt much you can do in Gen 1
Like everyone else he scared me, like everyone else he made me happy.
The first time I faced him I had nightmares, but the first time I defeated him I dreamed of it.
I can't imagine a Monster Hunter without him, this monster is way too iconic
almost 20yrs later and i can still vividly recall the stress and fear of my first rathalos encounter.
Too bad he only got nerfs in his time, idk whether we're just better, or the games feel better but Rathalos nowadays is kind of a joke of a hunt, especially in world, gets pushed by some water and by the time he tries get up he's already limping, kinda sad imo
I remember that feeling. Tigrex was my sleep paralysis demon back in mhfu, I remember going into the fight and my whole body just started shaking
@@demo_AAApopo tongue quest
I still remembered defeating it with my Sentinel Sword, I'd bring every blue mushroom, honey, potions, mega potions, herbs, max pitfall traps, nets and trap tools, to finally slay it just before the time runs out🥲
I like how in the first gen you just get hit on cue like you're in a play.
Rathalos is basically the Pikachu of the franchise
Or Ryu
yeah, overrated, boring, and with better alternatives available every gen
@@joaogomes9405 🤡🤡🤡
Getting bully on every trailer
That would be Kut-Ku if he was still around
Seeing the way some things were indicated in the older games makes me REALLY GRATEFUL for how well they're indicated now, lol. That hammer charge effect nearly killed me.
How tf did Monster Hunter manage to look and run that well on a PS2?? That is seriously impressive
Will never understand why they removed raths classic roar when going into the world style. His old roar was so iconic. (not saying the current one is bad)
I don't understand why they also did that to Rajang. His roar was really iconic
yeah i hope they walk it back at some point.
They also did that with Zinogre in World but brought everything back in Rise (His old model and Roar)
Rathalos is incredible iconic. I still remember the two trailers of the PS1 game. I was very young back then and terrible at the game. I think the first time you encounter him is on the last 1 star quest where you have to deliver an egg. You had to run away from him. This was terrifying and also pretty hard for me back then
Am at gen1 part of the video now, and I gotta say I appreciate the changes in the monster animation before the monster starts running around barreling you under its feet like a 3 ton locomotive, it has a few more tells to hint you that you better get the hell out the way
Man, seeing the OG game makes me feel so nostalgic. I would still love to play that game all over again graphics and mechanics all. I know its my rose tinted glasses but man I loved it so much
It's nice hearing that old fight music for Monster Hunter Tri, unlocks some oof memories since it was my first game
I am still applauding how Rise finally managed to turn Rathalos into a fun fight.
By crippling flying monsters' abilities to fly at will thus making the fact that they're flying wyverns pointless?
@@___------ So I take it you haven't played Rise.
@@Hathos9 I take it you've only played Rise and probably World
@@___------ Started with Freedom Unite ;)
@@Hathos9 Then I'm geniunely confused why you think I didn't play Rise. I understand it's annoying when monsters spend the whole fight flying, but to say that It was only in Rise that Rathalos got fixed is a bit much. There's methods to bring him down in the old games. There's way more in World. Unless I screwed up and just assumed you were talking about flying and there was something else that was annoying about him and I just never noticed. My bad in that case.
dude the music. the very first view notes, the horns. so good
Remember in classic MH 1, I have to bring mega pickaxe / mega bugnet & its crafting materials to farm ores / insects.
Remember in classic MH 1, eager cleaver exists as a great sword, because at that time there is no long sword.
Remember in classic MH 1, I always wondering how to get the sword behind the house.
Remember in classic MH 1, there are monoblos & diablos, basarios & gravios. Also plesioth which we can "fish" using a frog.
It brings back my memories. MH 1 was my first MH games, and it was a really great game in PS2.
You are a true monster hunter. Nice video dude
First and second gen flying off the map just to fly around was so amazing that i just stopped and got mesmerized by it after going from tri to freedom unite
It's insane to see that the animations for monsters and weapons have barely changed at all
Whats amazing is how consistent capcom has been with monster animations over the course of 20 years. Yes some moves have been removed/added but every monster generally fights exacly the same from MHps2 all the way to sunbreak
I think this is my new favorite video. I really love Rathalos!
Awesome job, man! Congrats
Bro you had every monster hunter games! Omg that's AWESOME 😎
It's crazy to see how much of an upgrade World is in terms of looks/quality from previous games.
Not on switch that’s why 👌🏼 it’s where it belongs now 👏🏼
@@deweybeweyHoly crap I agree. Idk what sort of deal capcom has with Nintendo but I immensely enjoyed mh being on playstation/psp instead. (Rip psp)
Not to mention the newer games just play better in terms of controls.
I think what's even crazier is the drop from gen 3 to gen 4. Playing 4u on the classic 3ds without the c stick upgrade felt absolutely terrible, yet I still played it for hundreds of hours.
@@deweybewey"Where it belongs"?
Chargeblade saed getting rid of your red/yellow shield in 4u is wild I completely forgot about that. This vid is just a crazy nostalgia trip
I felt that 15:53
This has made me realise just how much of MH has stayed the same over the years. Not something I ever really thought about!
Side note; seeing you get paralysed by the Gajalaka hurt me on a deep, spiritual level
I was there gandalf. 20 years ago. Greatest series ever!
This brought me tears of nostalgia already, would love to see more monsters and keep slaying Team DS
Going back to MH1 is always fun. The first time that I played it the world seemed so amazing! I still love Gravios.
As a day 1 enjoyer it brings the biggest smile to see just how far this series has come. What a fucking game.
Ahh memories. Still remember playing them all. Portable 3rd is still the one I spent the most time on, even after spending 100s of hours on World and Rise.
I know for a fact this dude had to have a moment of rage after he got paralyzed by those red head things
I think I laughed way too hard at that first paintball lol
Was very paintfull to watch.
But I loved this. Reminded me how long I have actually been playing this franchise.
okay, but the animation when you ran with the rathalos behind you was epic, it made you feel true terror.
Those flashbangs in the older games, godamn, its 2 in the morning and i'm being blinded
I think its crazy that you guys startet hunting rathalos when I was just born
The running in the gen 3 part looks so goofy, I love it.
This was such a great trip down nostalgia lane
Seeing gen 3 again is just beautiful, Im gonna boot it up again for a little while.
The sudden massive improvement in graphics and ecosystem in 2018 is seriously impressive.
ah yes the legendary gamefaqs save on FU '' Aang ''
The OG along with Kaze lmao
every time I go back to the older games the number one thing I miss the most? Floating Damage numbers. Nothing gives you those feel good hormones like seeing those insane damage numbers.
Tbh I don’t think I ever truly appreciated how big of a visual upgrade world was from the previous games. Like world and generations ultimate were so close together in release date (like two months, and world came out first!) but the difference is so stark
Generations Ultimate is just a remake of Double Cross which came out years before.
@@Spiffo0 "years before"

The lance you're using in MHFU is absolutely fantastic-looking... makes me sad that most of the modern weapons aren't nearly as eye-catching.
Those weapons were amazing! I solod g rank on PSP. Hh gang
@@JIGWIGPIGman, i remember soloing g rank was tough lol
that is indeed a very sexy weapon
That's Lao shan's lance if I remember correctly
wdym? most of Rise's Weapons are really eye-catching, just take a look at Almudron, Magnamalo or Somnacanth weapons for instance
This is the 5000th video I've liked. Nice.
Probably your biggest achievement since you started this channel tbh😱
Damn... bruh there is nothing more enjoyable than watching monsters fight among themselves in Monster Hunter World.
P.S: perhaps there is one more thing, I really like to play without mistakes with nodachi, using various combos and the result is approximately something like the Maleniya style from Elden Ring.
Watching Deus plays with that hunting horn made me realize how I miss the hunting horn of yore (at least till world), because one way or another now I feel that hunting horn in Rise is just a button mashing weapon. Equip magia charmbell, interweave some sonic barrier and healing L, and you basically can tank anything bar ultimate moves (valstrax divebomb, for example). No more dancing around monsters while busting some notes. And somehow if I use the "traditional method" of Echo, my friends are angry with me because I don't provide much buff fast.
sorry for ranting,
GU is still my favorite HH because you don't have to bust your nuts memorizing the song lists but it's also not just a damage machine, but you also get enough attacks in your moveset to be appropriately mobile to deal damage while buffing.
The reason why we're getting a long ranged+close ranged weapon combo in Wilds.
Love how in the first game you called yourself Link-man when I often call myself in Monster Hunter games Link😂
作品毎にアクションや武器、モンスター等が進化してるけど、20年前からゲーム一連の流れは殆ど変わっていないから凄いわ・・・!
Rathalos and world got the visual redesign he needed, but Rathalaos in Rise got the moveset he wanted.
I hate how people bash on Rise now, World may have redesigned the graphics and reintroduced Monster hunter to the world, but Rise perfect the weapon balancing, Weapon gameplay, and overall playability of the game for all levels of skill.
(You cant deny fatalis armor and weapons rule above a majority of sets on a majority of weapons, and get redundant quickly in world.)
i would like to see the "most difficult" Hunt in each game, each video could be covering one game, and you do a narrative break down of the monstie? Lore as well maybe?
That sheer terror I felt when I first saw rathalos roaming forest and hills in Freedom, those are good days!
I love this idea, can you do more with the other monsters?
Man, that 1st rathalos gave me PTSD. Wonky hitboxes, instant dashes, flying forever, danw claw into poison into stun then dash. I lived all my hunts again hahaha
The frustration you must have had in 15:50 when the Gajalaka paralized you xD man I even got frustrated. xD
Can't wait to see you guys bully monsters in Wilds!
His theme in the first/second gen is a banger
Man, i kinda was believing you also did it in Final Fantasy 14 too.
Still, very impressive.
Bro... the Gajalaka interrupting the TCS at 15:50 was so good
It was really cool to see this. I enjoyed seeing the way the monster developed over time.
I love the sound of Rathalos’ roar. Maybe it’s just me, but it’s in the ranks with Godzilla, Bazelguese and Zinorge
I really love those bugs man, this game is incredible, I was laughing so much in MHW
The ioprey that tank the fireball is a chad. The sacrifice will not be forgotten
Watching Rath try to land off the map brings back memories
It'd be really cool if they made this into a series
Would be kind of difficult to do since there's really only three monsters that have actually been in every gen. Los, Ian, and Blos.
Old gen rathalos flying off the edge of forest and hills taking forever to fly back up then saying "I'll fkn do it again"
This game just got so much better, i remember in 2009 first time playing MH gen 1 when i was 12, first time seeing rathalos just shitting my pants, i remember it's a gathering mission, stealing raths eggs, i fails so many times that make me hate this game at first, but i keep grinding and learning how the mechanics, and finally master that game, and now i still enjoying this game, i put so many hours in MHW, I'm glad i that i knew this game in early ages, and happy seeing this game become well known and one of the best game in the gaming industry.
If this had ended with them showing footage of them hunting a Rathalos in Wilds I would have lost my shit.
Amazing video though!
Those hit boxes lol, never missed always remembered
やっぱトライが1番映像が淡くて機能も良いし村最高だし好きだな。
Fighting Rathalos the First looks about as much fun as watching ice melt with intense heartburn
God that paralysis interruption was so funny. Reminds me way back in Tri and first time I killed Lagiacrus, the very instant after getting the last carve a fucking Bnahabra paralyzed me. I'd just beaten the Lord of the Seas only to be bested by a bloody bug 🤣.
That Rathalos really tap danced on the dude 😂 9:35
It was 15 years ago when I was still in 5th grade at elementary school, my first Monster Hunter was PS2 MH1 and continued with MH2dos, after entering the 2nd grade of junior high school my mother bought me my first PSP The first game I played was MHFU and MH3rd portable, the game was in Japanese and after entering high school I bought myself my first console, a Nintendo 3ds, to continue my adventures in the Game Monster hunter tri, MH 3ultimate, 4ultimate and MHXX and after entering college in 2018 where MHW first release I was very excited and it became my favorite Monster Hunter game until now beside MH rise. There are so many fun memories with my old friends 😂😂😂
One thing IS for sure, I dont miss the hitboxes
When I thought " Oh, hey. the OG MH Rath is so clunky."
And there is MHW Rathalos lmao
