The AK-47 Bandit's criminal career is marked by audacious and meticulously planned heists. His modus operandi typically involved storming into banks, clad in body armor, and wielding his signature assault rifle, instilling terror among bank employees and customers alike. His criminal exploits often turned violent, resulting in injuries and casualties.
Despite a multi-state manhunt, law enforcement struggled to apprehend the AK-47 Bandit, who demonstrated a knack for evading capture and leaving behind minimal evidence. His successful getaways earned him notoriety and left investigators frustrated.
The AK-47 Bandit's criminal activities have prompted heightened security measures at banks and financial institutions across the country. His case remains open, and authorities continue their efforts to bring this elusive criminal to justice, making him one of the most wanted individuals in the United States.
His style is often attributed to the North Hollywood Shootout of 1997.

To be fair, if he was smart enough to not drink and drive, he would never have gotten to that point anyway since that's what ruined his chances of being a police officer. There is a certain bit of poetry to a DUI being what sent him down this path only for it to be the very thing that ended that path too.

Hell he probably would've gotten away with the later heists if he wasn't an alcoholic. He also wouldn't be in this situation if he wasn't an alcoholic.
The man was his own worst enemy. If only he had planned each bank heist around a local AA meeting, he would still be knocking over banks today.

They got him on Armed Robbery - a charge that carries so much more weight. I mean, look at that- they put him away for 35 years on that one charge.
No need to complicate the trial with another charge that may or may not lead to a conviction
@@mason96575He shot at two different cops in two incidents, severely injuring one! That’s attempted murder of law enforcement! And he hit multiple banks! People get life for far far less! It’s a huge factor yeah 35 years is a long time but for these charges he got lucky.

@@faded6089 You are right in a sense, but there's no parole in the federal system so he will likely serve the entire 35 years which is equivalent to a "life sentence" in most state systems.

I was working at the feed store next to the bank in Nebraska City when it was robbed! It happened so fast- we didn't know there had been a robbery until an hour later. My girlfriend's dad saw the footage and recognized the guy from past robberies

Maybe the evidence wasn't so great. Or maybe they figured he'd get enough time with the deal to be an old man before he got out. Easier to just get a guilty plea and lock him up for a few decades. Either way yeah his lawyers were good.

I’m going to be completely honest. I thought there was a very good chance that I was going to see this guy turn out to be a friend of mine from Kansas before the Kansas State Trooper was shot. Everything about this guy was so close to stuff my friend had told me that he’d do if he ever robbed a bank. We grew up watching movies like Heat and seeing the North Hollywood Shootout on TV. I was extremely relieved to see that my friend is still an upstanding citizen, or is at least smart enough to have someone else take the fall for everything.

It was the first manhunt in history to use aircraft to search for the suspect. The pilot? Wop May, WW1 fighter pilot ace that faced off against The Red Baron. He was eventually killed, however to this day his identity is unknown.

That sounds like the story from the Charles Bronson movie 'Death Hunt'. Bronson's character was the one doing all that evading in the film, but there was a mad trapper character in the film too.

I live in Nebraksa, near Nebraska City, and I remember going to the DMV, and seeing wanted posters, of him, posted in the building. I still remember , thinking there was no way, someone robbed a small bank in Nebraska City. Crazy to run into this video, years later.
