Pink Lord Basically it looks like people who don’t want violence but don’t understand it doesn’t just go away magically through law and an attempt at making laws to do so ends in truly unnecessary harm and loss of basic human rights, all out of the idea that they don’t like violence. The other side doesn’t like violence either, but understands that violence occurs regardless and that they should, instead of wishing really hard until it goes away, prepare to defend themselves from it.

I have an aunt who for 30+ years was unbelievably anti gun. All it took is that feeling of being helpless, one time. A guy knocking on her door in the middle of the night was ALL it was, he wasnt violent, he wasnt loud; just knocking late at night. She was so helpless and terrified (over nothing in this case) that she went out and bought a gun and got training in the following weeks.
You're anti gun until you NEED a gun to protect you and your loved ones.

I live in Denmark where guns are VERY illegal, but there are still on pretty frequent occasions where there are people caught with an semi or automatic gun. You just can’t get rid of guns completely.
Yeah that I understand. But to prevent someone anyone from actually owning a gun legally, it can greatly reduce the easy access to do harm. I imagine a scenario that I'm going to my friend's house and there's a gun... I'm like dude are you going to shoot me?! Or even if it's a nice guy they point a gun on him.. I don't understand how damaging it is for the brain. I expected Americans to be smarter than that. I live in Brazil, which yeah there's guns but half of my people won't even considered as protection.

Abolishing would be getting rid of the police as a whole due to it first being created with racist motives and that system never having been dismantled.

I'm pretty impressed with this series overall for that exact reason. With a few exceptions, almost every episode I've watched, I've gone into it with a preconceived notion of what certain people are going to say, based on their looks or their position on the issue, and have come away realizing that they're real people with real thoughts.
Even though I know it, I'm learning more and more that the majority of people out there are actually thoughtful, and can be respectful of each other's opinions. There are relatively few people that are just "sheep". It's really too bad that our current political climate has made us so automatic to make surface judgements of each other.

The people who talk about a “gun show loophole” have never been to a gun show
I think the pro-gun people try and keep the gunshow loophole confusing. Because yes, most dealers at gunshows can’t take advantage of it and it keeps the gun control crowd busy spinning their wheels trying to close something that is already closed but to a small fraction of private face to face sales.
FFLs cannot sell guns without an ATF Form 4437 (Background check). But, it’s within my legal right to sell my own personal property to whomever I wish.
However, if I intentionally buy a gun with the intention to sell to someone because they cannot pass a background check, then it is illegal.
Doesn't happen. I do like to go to a gun show but even with the "little card" that I have flashed, my concealed carry license, which required me to submit my finger prints and agree to a background check is still not enough. I have to go through another one when I'm buying from the dealer at the gun show. Even with a clean background check a seller can just outright refuse if they get a bad vibe from you.

@@bobbobbington3615 There really isn't much a way to measure exactly this, so what's the point of really mentioning it? Even if someone used a gun from a private sale and scraped the serial off, you could never prove where that person got it from anyways.
I love to see a version of this show but with academics, like people who have dedicated their lives to one topic but have still reached different conclusions. I think it would be more interesting to see people put forward arguments based on statistics, facts and trends instead of how they think something works. Maybe even academics from different countries.

Yeah pretty obvious the gun show loophole is ridiculous because it’s not licensed dealers selling guns without a background check that’s illegal. If someone wanted to show up to a gun show and sell a gun right outside that door it would be a private sale.
@master DOGE I've been to multiple gun shows & the level of security/police involvement or otherwise is dependent on that communities laws. Sometimes it's a clear presence other times it's a few & I've even seen only private security hired by the location the gun show is being held in. Let's not generalize.

Signing legislation that will entail not allowing Gun ownership is gonna affect law-abiding citizens. criminals are criminals for a reason, they will get a hold of guns regardless of legislation. Greetings from Denmark. We have some of the world's most strict guns laws and it is great. I have never seen a person not from the police or military carry a gun before in my 30 years of living. Listening to people talk about feeling the need to have a gun to protect themselves from guns is absurd to me because that is far from the reality I live in. I really think the US should take steps towards that.

@@Tomb-Wraith Not many guns are sold through private sales, and a lot of the ones that are, are done over the internet which requires it to be shipped to a place with an FFL. Also there would be no way to implement background checks for private sales without a gun registry.

Anytime I hear someone start the argument of “other countries have a blanket ban on guns and it’s working” it doesn’t even make me mad or annoyed it just hurts. Because according to many MANY sources that is just not the case. In many if not most of the countries the violence crime rate is higher and people are still found holding and housing arms. In almost no case has a “blanket ban” worked in any way and i don’t know how people receive the wrong information so easily

I understand overcoming and not wanting to appear as a victim, but that is not the reaction or the emotion you expect to hear from a survivor of such a traumatic experience.

I am Black, pro-gun, and in law enforcement (just so y'all know my bias). I think I have a unique perspective to the "need more gun law" question. I don't believe we need more gun laws, we just need to do a better job of enforcing the laws on the books now. I just read an affidavit of a person accused of a crime where this guy bought 6 pistols from the same gun shop over the course of three months and each time he passed the background check, until somehow it comes to light that not only was he using a fraudulent ID, but that he has a felony case in a different state. He is accused of being a straw purchaser and fraud but he still beat the background check and this disproves the whole "universal background check" argument that people are getting guns without a background check. So I think it would be a better use of resources to hire more background investigators and/or update, streamline, modernize the felony database, than passing more new gun laws that are either Unconstitutional or won't do anything but make guns harder to purchase for your everyday American.
Thank you for this perspective, as a person who’s been in favor of tighter restrictions, seems to me that most of our current laws are under or not enforced. I always believe there should be no private to private citizen transfer of ownership, only through a licensed dealer, so everything is tagged and tracked

Obviously we want bad guys to go to jail for straw purchases or using weapons to commit crimes. But what happens to these lists once you pass the background check? If there is a system where all your stored information is then destroyed, I'll be for it. But I'm nervous with the abusive nature the fed government has treated access to our sensitive information, even ones that don't point to a crime, just embarrassing or contradictory information.

Salanchro Falcon I understand that it is a Hyperbole, I understand it was supposed to be an exaggeration; However, there is a major difference between an exaggeration and a lie. There are possible vendors that illegally sell their firearms on the spot instead of going through background checks and protocols first. In that sense though, is it any different from growing up in a more urban area and illegally purchasing them? There will always be good an evil. There is a small majority and I’d be willing to say less than 10% of vendors selling firearms on the spot to a customer that is a first time customer. I can understand a vendor who is familiar and friends with a customer that has been a returning customer and a long tine customer to sell them a firearm and allow them to walk out of the store the same day with said firearm. To say that every vendor is illegally allowing customers to walk out with firearms because there is a very small percentage of people selling illegal firearms on the street is absurd.

What we should be focusing on is how to make it more and more difficult for criminals to get guns which they do illegally. We gotta tackle gun trafficking, that’s the key.

Actually, that's partly true. If the "little card" is a Federal gun collectors permit. Even then, you can't just walk out with the guns. You still have to have a BI to confirm it is valid.
Steven Bass it’s not even partly true if you have your FSC card (Firearm Safety Certificate) which you need to actually purchase a firearm you’re not allowed to purchase no more than 1 of each type of firearm (pistol, rifle, and shotgun) within a 30 day period unless you’re a certified FFL dealer which hold a Federal Firearms License. Which only manufactures and dealers own (business owners that sell firearms)
Steven Bass a c&r license does not do that. All it does is remove the ffl transfer when purchasing a firearm and the gun in question has to be at least 50 years old.
It seems to me that it's different depending on where you live. Where I'm from if you have a valid photo concealed carry license you can walk into any gunshop and by anything and however many you want as long as it's not class 3. If it's from a ffl dealer there has to be a transfer but your ccl acts as the background check and that part can be skipped. If it's a non ffl dealer sale than it's up to the seller to make sure the buyer is legally allowed to own the gun and neither the background check or transfer are required. Generally the people selling at gun shows are ffl dealers so technically if you've got the money and are willing to do the paperwork you can go in and buy as many as you want.
Wellll... in Texas, if you show your LTC(licence to carry) you dont need to have a background check cuz you already had one to get the LTC. So theoretically, you can walk in and buy as many guns you want with a "little card"

Looking back at the history of the US, even if guns are banned, there are a lot of people with knowledge and manufacturing resources to illegally produce guns. In the end, law-abiding citizens would be the ones left without the means to protect themselves.

For the younger people, 16 and up, who have a driver's license, remember how many exams, tests, and other things you have to do, like Behind the Wheel, to get a driver's permit, and you have to drive a certain number of hours on top of that to get a license? I think we should uphold similar tests for the holding of guns.

You can purchase muzzleloaders without going through an FFL because they are not defined as firearms by the ATF. If you have a C&R (curios and relics) Federal Firearms License from the ATF then you can have certain, older firearms shipped to your house. Basically collectible rifles from WWI, for example.
When a shooter sees the "Gun Free Zone" sign, that let's them know no one will stop them. My bet if they see "Armed Guards On Duty" sign. They would probably think twice.

I am from Germany and guns are illegal here. There are school shootings in America and I personally don’t know if I would feel safe going to school over there. They don’t happen super often and I know that, but I do think that even one innocent person killed is to much. But on the other hand, I am speaking from a very privileged point of view because there is by far not as much violence in Germany as there is in America and I totally understand that you want to protect yourself and your loved ones.
I agree. There has been a false alarm shooting in my school despite it being a very safe district. Since it’s america though it’s not that outlandish. I don’t like how many pro-gun owners would be so brazen about killing somebody, I feel like their is another way then taking somebody’s life. My aunt was shot in Oakland before when a car sped by and shot her. Another time I was in elementary school, and a friend of my brothers brought his .38 to school. I was 7 and he was 9. People argue like all gun-owners are responsible but they’re not.
