    perhaps a video about improving "chess vision" would be cool. e.g seeing moves, noticing weakness, avoiding blunders. i mean maybe the answer is just 'practice and play a lot of games' but if there are any other specific tips that would be dope

    • @MattRowe182
      @MattRowe182 3 роки тому +64

      Write down the things you need to check for (checks/mates, captures, simple threats, pins/potential pins, loose pieces, double attacks, alignment issues, trapped pieces), play slow games and before you move any piece run through the list. You'll soon be doing them without the prompt and at least from a tactical perspective you will be fine.
      I also find asking "what is my opponent doing" as the first thing after their move reduces your blunder count massively! If you see what your opponent is doing but mis-evaluate it, you can learn to fix that, if you miss their plans altogether you'll never improve. From an 1850 10+0 (i.e. not an expert but not an amateur).

    I was familiar with a lot of these concepts already, but this was the most clear and concrete explanation of piece activity that I have ever heard. A lot of people talk about active or passive pieces in really nebulous terms assuming that it's obvious, when it's actually one of the harder concepts to grasp for new players.

      This sounds like a great idea! Very similar to the guessing subs' elo, but different in certain aspects, if you know what I mean.

    Question: What would be a good topical roadmap for a brand new chess player's study plan? i.e. (1) puzzles and patterns (2) checkmates and threats (3) attacking and countering (4) defending and evading (5) aggressive vs positional play etc im having trouble deconstructing the entirety of a chess understanding into small steps that i can sequence out in my training. any help or recommendation would be awesome!

    2:30 Couldn't bishop take the pawn, pawn recaptures and the you take the knight with your rook? And if he recaptures with his knight he can just capture that with your bishop and fork his the king and rook and after you take his rook and he recapture it with his queen, your just up 3. Edit: I just saw it showed that in the engine rip
