  • Finally installing the eBay 32mm carb (stock is 28mm) I bought 2 years ago, figure if I did that I can move on to the supercharger this winter! SO many hoses, that's the intimidating part, but I did it finally. Runs decent, There was a decent gain in HP. It will take some modification to get it to fit. Now play with the timing a bit and race tiny tonka!
I show my method of labeling the vacuum hoses, just in case I have to re install the stock carburetor.

I would expect the carburetor to be bored to be a little bigger to deal with the increased airflow from a supercharger. Pretty much dropped right in! You're right Japanese engineering is so much better than anything else; it's the opposite of Chinese engineering! Can't wait to see the supercharger installation video. Minnie's going to be popping wheelies pretty soon!
    Thanks I enjoyed the video!

Good work. I rebuilt or replaced several of the Chinese carbs for 150cc gy6's. One thing I found every time is no two are REALLY alike. Plastic parts or brass, different jets & floats, porting. But really do like the wax chokes. Reliable, accurate, work great every time.

Love this series. Sure wished you lived closer to help me with mine. Lol. Purchased 1995 Suzuki Carry just lifted it last week. Wheels and tires on it now too. I painted it myself 11 hrs worth last weekend to a camo bottomland stencil. Turned out amazing. Tackling the valve cover seal, lashing of the valves, camshaft seal and I think crank seal and might as wheel replace timing belt. I checked time last weekend and it was off bumped it to around 10 degrees and she runs a lot better.
Oh added tach, and found that dash cam mirror. Installed it as well. Also found if you adjust front camera on it touch the mirror drag image down or up allows for more adjustment.

Im totally late to the part but I finally dusted off the carb I bought last year and did the swap . It feels so great to get rid of all the vacume lines and the leaking coolant hoses ( I capped them all off ) .Good by egr , good by sticking choke , good by giant airbox , hello power . I did have the same tip in hesitation as everyone else and I sorted it out , its the accelerator pump . Its too big and comes on too soon once I loosened the jam nut off and backed the adjuster all the way down and it was night and day better . I will cut the spring down next because it still comes on a bit at just tip in of throttle .

I did this carb swap thr othet day on my s83p. Having the same slight stumble you were having when snapping the throttle open. I'm thinking its timing but have not checked yet. My question is I'm second guessing myself on the two vaccum lines coming off the distributor. Should the vac line on top of the diagram go to the venturi port on the carburetor like most cars and the vac line under the diagram go to a intake port? I've never seen a distributor with two vaccum lines before.

    • @MotoCheez

If you suck on one side it'll advance it, that hose goes to venturi.

It's not made to be pressurized, so has to be draw thru, I'm worried about atomized fuel in the turbo spooled up and popping off the pressure valve and spraying atomized fuel everywhere. That's why I did the supercharger as a draw thru. I did buy a turbo but decided against it because if above.

MC, what jet did you finalize it with? And did you add a bit of timing? I've got a 93 S83P Climber Jumbo and am planning to buy the same carb but curious about the jetting and your experience. My factory carb isn't working correctly, choke springs are busted and it just doesn't run well after the head job I just completed. Idle is too high and wont stay consistent etc... I was thinking about buying a rebuild kit but since this carb potentially bumps the HP's and would be easier than a rebuild, I'm leaning that direction. Thanks for the help, love you S83P build videos. Watched a lot, learned a lot, stealing some ideas!

Your carburetor transplant looked like a heart transplant video. The needle nose ViseGrips used to pinch off hoses looked like hemostats.
The excessive number of hoses on the little HiJet engine is a big turnoff for me. I think this was the peak production period for spaghetti hoses as more and more pollution control was regulated into being but before computers fully mapped engine performance and controlled not only power but also fuel efficiency and pollution. During the 90s, the added complexity was implemented with vacuum lines doing different things, antifreeze lines run to the carburetor to implement an engine temperature gauge, etc. The plumbing is much easier when all of that complexity is implemented electronically. I'm eager to see a video where someone puts a much newer EF engine into an older Hijet. I'd love to replace the carburetor with EFI in a modern engine that's simpler, more efficient and more powerful.

Any idea what would cause these to run, what I'm guessing is, lean, at idle? I went with the same carb and I can choke it and it'll idle high and stay running, but if I try and open the choke all the way, the idle drops low, it sounds like it misfires, and the exhaust fumes start to burn my eyes. I only have one vacuum line for the distributer since there is only one on the vacuum advance. It holds pressure just fine as well. I have one of line from the intake side, behind the carb, capped off and the other running to something under the fuel pump and it T's off and goes to the valve cover. The EGR is open, and with it connected to vacuum, it doesn't seem to make a difference. There is a vacuum port on the front side of the intake that feeds the vacuum reservoir and I'm assuming the booster, so I don't think there is an issue there.
Messing with the timing on the distributor hasn't made much of a difference either.
Also, on my S83P my coolant lines were different than yours. The top line went to the intake and there were two lines down low, that went to the carb that I looped together. Thought it was a little weird.
    Any ideas?

    • @MotoCheez
      @MotoCheez  8 місяців тому +1

Your EGR valve should be closed, you can even put a plate over it to make sure it does not recirculate, that could be The whole problem. Because other than that you have a mixture screw on the carburetor that you can play with

@@MotoCheez yeah I get it. On my 408 with a carb it would pressurized the bowls dumping more fuel and would stumble. Just wondering how it would work on a smaller carb.

I thought about pressurizing the carb, but I think it would flood like you say

Hello, I bought the same carburetor last week, installed it and had the same problem. I have a few things to ask you:
How many mm did you use for the main jet? Was 120 stable?
The screw behind the idle screw broke off on me. Is it possible to find a replacement for it?
The car is currently sputtering at low RPMs. It does not go smoothly.
The vacuum hose on top of the carburetor connects to which part of the distributor?
Can you send me photos if I give you my email address?
    My car is : Daihatsu Hijet 1000cc / Van / 1998 year / s100 motor code
    Thank you :)

That's true I believe is the same as the other one if you could take that out and try to match it up with something online. I'm not sure where else you could find it. As far as the vacuums off the carburetor it went to to distributor one line, I don't have any photos of it but hopefully you can see it in the videos I've done

Also try adjusting it without connecting power to that solenoid that is on the carburetor, that was giving me an issue

@@MotoCheez If we're talking about the electrical wire, the engine stops when I disconnect it.

@@MotoCheez Videos are so helpful, I paused, wrote notes and made screenshots :) It's hard to find documents for hijet on these days.

@buraxmusic try adjusting the idle up to keep it running when it's disconnected and see if that helps
