Mini Truck (SE01 EP22) Choke stuck, Adjust Valves, Check Spark Plugs, Set timing, S83p HiJet

  • With the poor gas mileage I decided to check some things on Mini, well.. Her choke is not working, needs parts, so adjusted, timing, valves and checked the spark plugs. Runs good besides the choke issue which I have open all the time now instead of closed. Specs below.

    Hijet Climber Mini-truck, this one is a 1992, 7th Gen, S83P, 660cc Minitruck. The “climber” means it has rear axle lock. Amir has about 60 units in stock, he was very helpful.
    States legal www.iihs.org/i...
    Researching online I did find l lot of information, but Amir explains a LOT more than I knew, he has been in the business for 15 years. Plus if Bubbles in Trailer Park Boys has one, it HAS to be cool!
    Don't forget you're buying a used vehicle, check it all out, they're over 25 years old! Some are in much better shape than others. Check for leaks, CV boots ripped, Loose suspension, Clutch slippage, clunks etc. Just like any used vehicle
    S83p specs:
    660cc 4 vavle 3 cyl engine 48-53hp carburated
    weight: 1500 lbs
    length 10'8" (128"). width 4'6" (54") w/o mirrors. Height 5'10" (70")
    Load capacity 800 lbs
    Max Speed 55-60mph
    Valve lash cold: intake 0.18mm exhaust 0.25mm
    I purchased mine at Boeki USA, www.boekiusa.com has their updated inventory. Ask for Amir and tell them MOTOCHEEZ sent you!

    I know there may be other videos of this.. but this is my Cheezy style!
    More info (Wikipedia):
    The Daihatsu Hijet (Japanese: ダイハツハイゼット) is a cabover microvan and pickup truck produced and sold by the Japanese automaker Daihatsu since 1960. Despite the similarities between the Hijet name and Toyota's naming scheme for its trucks and vans (Hiace and Hilux), the name "Hijet" has been in use for Daihatsu's Kei trucks and Microvans since 1960, over two decades before Toyota took control. "Hijet", one of Daihatsu's other mini-trucks. The Hijet competes in Japan with the Honda Acty, Subaru Sambar, Mitsubishi Minicab, Suzuki Carry and the Nissan Clipper.

Anyway, you have to know that poor old "Mini" loves all of the attention that you have been giving her, and she wants to do right by you and struggles as much as she can, but those "Hi Top Sneakers" that you gave her (taller tires), really makes her not give you the best mileage that she can. Check for vacuum leaks to the choke ,also check the coolant hoses going to the choke . There is a wax pellet system for opening the choke once the coolant heats up..if the coolant hoses are clogged ( not many JDM vehicles ever get their coolant changed or flushed ) the warm coolant may not get to the choke pellet

    I am really digging the vids MotoCheez. My ride, I just changed the oil as the motor was really noisy and the oil was more than dirty, it was ridiculous, it smelled like it had gas in it, I did an oil change after matching up a filter code. I poured in some 10w-30 Valvoline to run her through her paces, motor sounds good, still has the tick so I am fittin to adjust that valve-train as soon as I dig up some info on clearances, I imagine she needs a good adjustment. As my ride is somewhat limited in it's farm use, no locking diff and a limited slip rear, my customization flavor is ever so leaning more and more towards a "Jaw Shattering" street application, (No matter How SICK the modification may be).... .
    I have searched high and low and haven't really found much as far as modified street touring mini-trucks.... Any ideas folks? I know they are doing it on the streets of Japan though, the mini-truck is Japan's youth oriented hot-rod. My artistic flavor is affording me with visions of conversions which would vastly alter the appearance of the average mini-truck. I am more interested in finding a rebuild kit for my 1995 KIA motor as well as a small turbo kit. I have a few really sick ideas I want to put together and this cheap ticking, smoking KIA makes a great candidate for a wild Street touring Mini -Truck that can turn heads on the street yet still handle things round the farm-front. I got some forward thinking ideas recently when I saw video of a newer Suzuki turbo mini-truck , it did a 0-100 and stable like it was on rails.... It wasn't super fast but it was mighty quick with the four speed it had.... I know all these parts are in Japan and readily available but I can't currently locate a contact point as of yet... ...I never give up...... Cheers.

      The Ts are $12.99 and fobs are $9.99. They're linked in motocheez.com in "merchandise" section. Hmm, a good motor swap is probably the Subaru motor because it's flat. Only issue I can see is gearing too low with stock transmission unless you have a 5 speed.. larger tires raises the speed pretty good, looks like the turbos go right along too.

    I too, have been wondering why she's guzzling fuel so much. A SeaFoam treatment wouldn't hurt her either. Warm her up, and feather the throttle as you pour SeaFoam down the carb throat, let her stall out and then sit overnight. It'll smoke like hell while pouring it down. And, the next morning, will smoke like hell some more while you wonder what the hell you just did to your beloved. Then, the smoke will clear and she'll smooth out and purr nicely. A third of a can of it in the crankcase a day before an oil change will clean things up too. Great stuff, works better than Sta-Bil as a fuel conditioner/stabilizer too.

    Great episode MotoCheez..... Unfortunately, Not all mini-trucks are the same.... I chose the ugly duckling, a KIA Metro. I recently went to adjust the valves, the present valve clearances were way off from the ones quoted in the video, KIA must have much closer tolerances..... Needless to say, I couldn't get an .008" gauge through so if a valve or two were .001" off, it may tap.... So hard to call it.... AWESOME EPISODE..... Cheers!

    Thanks for the video . I have a 1992 Honda do you think it would be possible to pull the oil pan off , pull the pistons install rings and put back together. I bought one that was sitting 3 years or so and I can’t get compression back . The cylinders read 15, 30 40 psi.

    • @MotoCheez
      @MotoCheez  3 роки тому

      I don't think you can pull the Piston out through the oil pan they'd have to be disconnected from the crank and pushed out through the head side. I would think a low compression like that would probably be because the valves aren't seating correctly did you try shooting oil and each cylinder and then trying again

    • @niceguy4928
      @niceguy4928 3 роки тому +1

      @@MotoCheez yes sir I did. I am going to try to adjust valves and if all else fails pull the head. I think that is really low compression to the point it probably wouldn’t have ran after 80 or 90 psi . Maybe it’s rusted up. Idk but thanks for answering my questions.
