I would be interested to listen to your opinion about the 2.7 liter Ecoboost. Especially the 2018-19 model years, I tried and drove one was surprisingly powerful and carried the body with ease, the gas mileage much better compared with the 3.5 not to mention the 5.0.

I’ve got a 2011 F-150 with the eco boost engine. I bought it used nearly 5 years ago. I change the oil just as Scotty recommends, every 5k, with full synthetic and I have 158k miles. This engine burns no oil, runs smoothly but gets lousy gas mileage. Probably the best I get on the highway is 17 or maybe 18 mpg. I love it though.

3.5L is still only 214 cubic inches (rounded up). It's smaller than the Ford 300 straight 6. The biggest Ford V6 is the Essex 3.81L, a replacement for the 300 6, which is still only 232 ci. Those a small engines for a truck. The 300 is almost indestructible and one of the best engines Ford ever made. Small engines as you know generally have to work much harder than V8 engines. All that power in a small engine tends to shorten the life of the engine unless it's babied. Work it like a truck and it's lifespan goes down.

I have a 2015 F-150 Lariat/well dressed out; 4 wheel drive; 6 cylinder/turbo boost. Have less than 70,000 miles. We are the original owners, it was my husband's company truck. We got a big toy hauler (motorcycles) so I bought the truck out of the company. Excellent gas mileage. Around town 18-19 (I don't have a heavy foot). On the road/interstate I have gotten 27 MPG. Company paid oil changes, etc. so it has had regular oil changes. I love this truck & I have never pulled anything. We had a 22' Enclosed trailer that we pulled our 2 bikes in & carried clothes/tools/etc. & just rented a place to stay when we traveled. It made one trip to AZ (used to have a winter home) hauling the bikes in the trailer. We sold our AZ winter home in 2020. Sold the trailer to our son. Bought a toy hauler so we went back to a dually truck. But I kept the F-150 & have put very few miles on it.

One of the main reasons I hate the eco-boost engine is because of the direct injection. There is no gasoline being sprayed on the valves so with the EGR system they tend to carbon up in the valve, stem, and intake ports. It is very expensive to clean the intake without disassembly. If I recall, Audi and BMW had problems with that type of setup years ago.
