Don't (I was being a smart ass) I posted this while I was doing it lol. You do have to take the screws off the wheel well but you don't have to take the bumper all the way off. I just kinda faced it down. Oh and btw. Word of advice for people doing this the aluminum spacer housing is absolutely trash on these cars. Do not over tighten. You swill strip the aluminum thread like I did. Once you feel the screw tighten stop.
Yea I heard a lot of this in the forums. Haha and yea, now when I do the headlight stuff, I dont remove the bumper fully. I do something similar to what you do haha
It's just easier. And so much less work. My driver side bumper sticks out alittle further then my passenger because of the bov. But it's not noticeable. I want the demon eyes for my headlights. Need to save
Do you get an underboost code with this???? I Installed a boomba and i got a cel for being under boosted... These are way cheaper and i hate looking at that stupid light in my dash.
Please reply! I didn’t see that you disconnected return hose that takes the air back to the Intake, witch means that this works more like BPV then BOV(same like oem one) ? Is that how Turbo XS is supposed to be installed, or did you do it wrong?
anyone thinking of doing this mod: do yourself a favor and do a cai, or even just a pod filter first. This doesn't sound that different from the stock reciculating valve once you unrestrict the airbox. a proper cai will add some engine bay dress up, and just using a simple pod filter only costs like 20 bucks, and both can be done without removing the bumper.
I do agree. If you're just going for the sound there are easier much cheaper methods but this valve seems to hold boost a bit more reliably than the stock bypass valve so I'd recommend this for the sake of its function over the whole "cool sound" factor.
Awesome video bro. Helped me a lot on the install of my bov! Sounds amazing, I took off the whole recirc hose that goes into the intake and it's a lot louder. Also found out , full bumper removal not needed, just the top, and wheel well.
Brandon White the video shows basically what you need to do to install the BOV, only I did my install a little different by not taking the hardware under the bumper off so I just let it hang rather then completely removed. I had full access to the bov, as if you were to remove the bumper fully. To make the BOV noticeably louder you would remove the "bpv" hose completely which you will be able to do when removing the old BOV, takes less then a minute. The sound of the bov is increased where I've been told it's really loud from a distance lol.
Brandon White yes, basically remove the hose connected to the intake (the large one) "bpv hose" and cap the hole. Then you need to remove/pull down the bumper and take off the stock bov, which will give you access to the remainder of the hose, which you then can remove.
Thanks for the vid. I got my TurboXS in today and will be putting it on tomorrow. I just need your friend to come by and take off my bumper! Beer will be provided. I'm in Texas though, too far to drive. If some peeps are just looking for sound, my blow off sound is pretty loud already with the Injen short ram intake and that's really easy to install. Like you I am looking to get rid of the flimsy stock BPV and didn't want to cut a hole in the cover. I don't know if you lubed the O-rings, but I will be putting on some teflon lubricant as a barrier when I install it. It keeps air from leaking past the O-rings. I use Aladdin magic lube O-ring lubricant. A trick I found when I was in the swimming pool business. You put that stuff on and it WILL NOT leak.
I honestly didn't think to pre lube any portion but I can assure you the BOV has worked like a charm with no issues. Though like all BOVs, you should clean it from time to time
I put mine on today. Seems to hold boost longer. Definitely sounds cool. For the record I did lube the O-rings. I think it will help them last longer if anything.
Did you upgrade your solenoid cause i have this bov and it worked fine for a couple of weeks then all of sudden it....it constantly releasing pressure under Wide Open Throttle....Do you by any chance know why ?
Hey Tia! Sorry to hear that. I have heard that sometimes the BOV can get "dirty" and is recommended to keep an eye and clean the valve about every 3-6 months. I'm not sure where you live so it could be that some slight debris got stuck where the valve normally opens and closes and could be holding the valve open? However.... just know that these cars are tuned to actually DROP power around 5000 RPM so if thats when you're noticing this.... its actually kinda natural. If not, hope the previous advice helps! Let me know what you find out!
You can use stock hose but it could be that there's either an issue with the vacuum line connected or the valve itself is faulty. Also.... this is a stretch.... but also make sure it is indeed a blow of valve and not a bypass valve.
Can you give us an update on how that BOV is doing after these few months you made the change and also if you still have it installed or you took it off, how is it holding up?
Great question. Its not that you NEED a tune but some BOVs are adjustable for different boost pressure and will either not hold pressure (thus opening too easly) or hold too well (thus not opening when it should). Some brands or models can't be adjusted and are meant for higher boost or higher performance builds. Also, some people who end up tuning their cars with something like a Front Mount Inter Cooler would require a tune anyways to get the best performance out of their new set up.
I needed a tune with my Eclipse GSX because it wasn't recirculating and it would throw off the air/fuel mixture. Thats all fixed with an Apexi AFC unit so I imagine its the same thing for most turbo charged cars.
I got mine from a different vendor but due to the popularity of this model, they get frequently back ordered. This BOV fits A LOT of applications. Mine took like 2 months. Have you ever experienced underboost code related to BOV? Had a surging issue, took to Hyundai, cracked intercooler and turbo wastegate were replaced. Same issue when I got it back on top of underboost code. Bring it back and the only answer was that the BOV sounds like it's stuck open and it's that. Replaced with stock BPV. Still have the same issue! Power loss, flutter, surging and underboost code check engine light. Bring it back now they worked with Hyundai engineers and say it's still BOV even though the stock BPV is on saying I have to pay for replacement because I had a BOV on before? I do have a typhoon CAI and a magnaflow exhaust, is it possible I'm creating too much boost for bpv and bov to hold and I just need a better BOV? Any help would be much appreciated, I've been going through this nightmare for two months and 20 trips to the dealership. I hate this guessing game and I don't want to put another stock bpv if I'm still gonna get same issue
Underboost usually means you're losing boost somewhere. I hate the guessing but things that may be causing it would be loose hoses and even vacuum lines. Make sure the line that goes to the BOV is well fastened and without cuts as this could cause a vacuum leak. Also, harder to check but make sure the Boost solenoid has all hoses correctly connected. Lastly, check the main hoses like the hot pipe and cold pipes. Make sure the couplers are well tightened.
Do you know any blow off valves that are quiet, i have a aftermarket bov but i didnt install it, i bought the car used like that, but i dont like the pshh noise.
What you want is a bypass valve/ recirculating BOV instead of a BOV than. Be warned that even with a bypass valve, if you have an intake system, you will still hear a bit of the "psh". Look into Turbosmart Kompact VR02 (they also sell a Bypass only version). This BOV allows you to choose between Full Recirculate, Full Vent to Atmosphere (BOV) or a Hybrid mix of both (like the BOV in this video). Another option is Go Fast Bits DVX BOV which also allows you to go Bypass or BOV but that one is more expensive than the Turbosmart option. Hope this helps! P.S. I plan on doing a video on one of those two I just mentioned next year :) (I know, it may be too late but just saying haha)
My current project/challenge at the moment is to have a dash mounted switch bypass the aftermarket bov to something more quiet. This stealth mode on demand is practical and is what I did last weekend for exhaust using an exhaust cutout switch. Not sure exactly how to do it. Got this turboxs hybrid bov and an extra 3 port solenoid valve to work with so far but it's all new territory. Any ideas for how to use the extra solenoid valve to toggle from the this hybrid bov to a more quiet mode would be appreciated.
Chayness it don’t really sound like turbo spool sound like sucking in air and when I let off the throttle or shift it blows off that air that sound like it built up
Hey I know this is not related to this video but I figure you may have an answer how do you get your Eyeline to flash ? I've been trying to look it up but nothing comes up
My stock Diverter valve went bad and started to make a flutter noise when I would let off the gas and check engine light came on so I replaced it with this BOV and check engine light is still on and is still making the same exact noise. Didn’t fix anything. Don’t know what to do. Check engine light reads that it’s the bypass valve which is the bov
Just to make sure. Did you erase code first and than unplug battery to allow the ECU to recalibrate to the new BOV? Also, did you mount the BOV with the underside opening lining up with the recirculation portion? Lastly, is the top vacuum line hooked up properly? If yes to all this, it's possible your Boost/MAC Solonoid is what went bad and not the Bypass. Hope this helps
Chayness alright does after a couple days of having new BOV on, my car is starting to hestitate a lot at close to/WOT. Any idea what the problem is now? It was doing great for first few days
I didn’t catch- was any cutting involved or is it a simple bolt-on? I saw some people had to cut through the plastic piece to make room for the Forge BOV.
The Turbo XS BOV requires no cutting of the bumper because it fits perfectly flush where the OEM valve usually sits. It's a straight bolt on, no major modifications required. One of the main reasons why I really recommend this.
I've read that some people get that. First i'd check to make sure all your lines are secure and that you have no vacuum leaks. If the problem persists, i'd warranty it because the spring rate might be off and your car is having a problem with it. Sadly, these are not servicable.
Mine has had no issues but it was new. I hear if you plan on getting one, aim for one with low miles, and also make sure its a 2014+ model as the previous years had a few issues
The original vendor I bought it from, I had a really hard time getting the part. It took about 2.5 months to get. I don't want to slander their name but they never replied until I was about to file a claim. I won't link you to them but look on Amazon.... I actually saw it for like $130 on Amazon once (cheaper than what I bought it for). Right now it's expensive but here's the link www.amazon.com/TurboXS-BOV-SML-Blow-Off-Valve/dp/B00IHS3EF0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499552743&sr=8-1&keywords=turboxs+bov
I just installed the same bov and I love the sound and everything but it's been about two full days and the fuel Mileage is totally different it's really bugging me. Did yours go back to normal?
Lol I noticed that and it is beyond annoying. not sure what causes it honestly but I just stopped paying attention to it and more on the actual fuel gauge and I seem to get ok mileage
Chayness today I disconnected my negative battery cable to reset the ecu left if off for ten min. Then reconnected it and drove an hour to work after it warmed up and my fuel mileage went right back to normal. I read people saying you should always do this when doing new mods to vehicle and that will help the ecu calibrate. I tried it and it worked great
How do you pass your smog test? I live in CA and I recently purchased an AEM cold air intake for my 16' veloster turbo and I wanted to do this too but I dont want to fail a smog test
I emailed turbosx and they said they dont know if it's illegal in ca but that there is no carb sticker. I emailed SoCalGarageWorks (based in socal) and they said it's legal and doesn't affect any carb regulations and that the OEM part doesnt have a carb sticker and is hidden but i dont feel that's enough to make it legal cause it seems like people say they're illegal because it emits into the atmosphere
Honestly, i've always heard BOVs were not legal in CA. This was from law enforcement. It doesn't make sense as it's only air but they argued it could contain other contaminents. As for your intake, that should be legal and I know AEM provides a CARB sticker. I don't know of ANY BOV that has a carb sticker so either you remove it or take the chance if it's completely hidden
I want an aftermarket BOV but CARB says no.. unless I am missing something... then again I guess the location of Veloster BOV makes it very easy to hide cause of that shroud.
That's exactly it lol. CARB does say no but this is so hidden that unless you get pulled over because they heard it..... you should be fine. Also if you have an intake.... it makes a similar sound even with stock bypass so you could use that as an excuse lol
@@shaned211208 Well if you're constantly stepping on it to hear the BOV than yes, lol you'd consume more fuel. But on a stick model, you have to let off throttle to shift so I don't think it would make an impact as you cant really shift without doing this.
Not at all. Though some BOV's require different spring tensions and have interchangeable springs. This one you don't have to worry about that. Plug and play.
Chayness I installed mine and I can feel a loss of power, my car used to make the tires squeal a little getting on it in second, now it doesn’t at all. I installed my turboxs with the bung facing to the left, is that the wrong way?
i keep hearing some pros and cons to blow off valves and one of the biggest one being that it makes the engine run rich momentarily and that the ecu therefore supplies more fuel since its used to the air recirculating into the system. So it makes me weary of wanting to get the blow off valve.
This would depend on the car as different cars use different systems to calculate air/fuel mixture. For example, cars that use Mass Air Flow sensors (MAF) I would NOT recommend a BOV as it would usually cause a LEAN mixture and could cause problems. The Veloster uses a Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor (MAP) and it doesn't run into similar problems. Also, with turbo cars its actually best to run a little rich to assist in cooling of the combustion chambers. Lastly, a curve ball, some cars for whatever reason run better with Bypass Valves or Recirculating Valves which instead of venting to the atmosphere (like a Blow off valve) recycle the air back into the engine. The BOV in this video is a Hybrid and does 50/50 (50% to the Atmosphere and the other 50% recirculated). The BOV I used in the other video you commented on (The GFB) was a valve you could control if you wanted it to be a Bypass or BOV or a Hybrid since it allowed you to adjust the bias of the vent.
Ive heard a few people have that issue but usually its a defect in the BOV itself? That or if the vacuum hose wasn't properly installed/ hose is damaged?
I actually don't want to disclose the ORIGINAL vendor I used because of how long the transaction took me. If you're looking for one, I recommend Socal Garage Works or Amazon. But support SCGW as they have sales and better support!
There are many different vendors but here's SCGW's link as they currently have a labor day sale going on: scgarageworks.com/product/turbo-xs-bov-replaces-oem-bov/
It depends on the dealership you work with. At mine, I was told as long as it was a simple bolt on, it would not void the warranty. However, I have heard from other people that their dealers aren't too nice about mods so check with your local dealer.
In all honesty, no because it's venting to the atmosphere. Now, if you buy a new BOV and it recirculates, it's technically legal as it's not altering the way it was originally meant to be (ie, it's a higher quality product) BUT, chances are if you got your hood popped and saw it, they'd still question it and make it a pain for you to deal with. The reason why I chose this one (as explained in my follow up video to this) is because its mounted on the stock position, is covered by the bumper (others require cutting your bumper to clear them) so it remains hidden, is built to work efficiently with the stock system, and it's better quality. I just shift early so they would think it's intake noise. (Some turbo cars with legal intake still make a similar BOV sound due to recirculating air into the intake)
Why would it not be legal? All it's doing is venting normal air (albeit pressurized) back into the atmosphere. Not venting anything like oil, or fuel, or other polar bear killing stuff.
I'm sorry you think that. The simple act of a BOV isn't illegal, however it's the fact that it has the potential to increase emissions. While in a car like the VT which uses a MAP sensor, it might not alter much, in many cars the use a MAF sensor, it can cause the potential to create a "rich" running mixture which would increase emissions and NOx. In the state of California, that makes most cops "blanket" BOV's as being illegal. In California, most cops will give you a Ref. Ticket for having a BOV. No need to insult but please do your research before giving false advice. It's not about "knowing" cars. I've actually graudated from a vehicle technician school, but i'm just trying to help others with what i've learned in and out of school so they don't have to spend money and be miss guided. Thanks for your opinion though :)
Well it's not just to get the sound as I explained in my follow up video. It's actually cuz the stock valve is really weak and easily leaks boost. This one is a much better design and holds boost quite well. That and it's one of the few valves you can still hide and not have to cut a hole in the bumper
Getting ready to install mine right now! Also got the K&N cold air intake installed last week. There's a huge difference already
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the car and mods :)

Did you remove it and clean it while you had it? I'm having issues with it being stuck open it seems. I keep getting underboost code because of this.
I won't lie, I NEVER cleaned it but I did replace it like 2 years later. Cleaning may be a smart idea
Chayness yeah I figured out right after I had commented that it has to be the bov solenoid. Thanks a lot tho
@@vStehz Yea no worries bro. Glad you got it taken care of.
Chayness alright does after a couple days of having new BOV on, my car is starting to hestitate a lot at close to/WOT. Any idea what the problem is now? It was doing great for first few days
I believe it’s misfiring
I didn’t catch- was any cutting involved or is it a simple bolt-on? I saw some people had to cut through the plastic piece to make room for the Forge BOV.
The Turbo XS BOV requires no cutting of the bumper because it fits perfectly flush where the OEM valve usually sits. It's a straight bolt on, no major modifications required. One of the main reasons why I really recommend this.
can this work for a normal veloster bc i have the 2014 veloster ??
This is a turbo part only. A non turbo would not have this part as it wouldn't need it. Sorry.
So thats it just install the bov and its done no need to tune up?
Pretty much. No real need to tune because the car itself adapts to this pretty well
6:32 no pshhh cracked me up
I installed one like that and after handling it I got error code p2261 what should I do?
I've read that some people get that. First i'd check to make sure all your lines are secure and that you have no vacuum leaks. If the problem persists, i'd warranty it because the spring rate might be off and your car is having a problem with it. Sadly, these are not servicable.
Chayness I already found the solution thanks
@@juanpablofalconortiz Glad to hear bro
Do you need to tune the car after the install?
You do not need to tune to use this or install this.
How is this mod holding up? Thinking of adding to my VT
Its going strong. Nothing to complain
does this will make your warranty void?
There's a possibility that it may. I'd consult with your specific dealer.
Did you have to cut the top of the bumper to make it fit or it fix under without any cut?
Nope. That's the main reason why I went with this particular BOV. It sits flush under the bumper, no cutting required so super discrete. :)
Thx for ur help but the bov turbo xs is pretty loud
It can be haha
Is this the same location the Elantra sport ???
It's not. On the ES its lower I believe
@@Chayness okay thank you! Cause ive also heard on the sport you have to buy a new cold pipe so im just figuring out lol
@@STLSweg I noticed many buy a new cold pipe kit to be able to mount it, yea.
Hey thanks for the sick videos on the veloster! I’m thinking about getting them are they reliable ?
Mine has had no issues but it was new. I hear if you plan on getting one, aim for one with low miles, and also make sure its a 2014+ model as the previous years had a few issues
Hey bro quick question does this work on the Veloster reflex the non turbo one ?
I know the question isn't for me but bov's are only for turbocharged cars so, no you can't use this on a non turbo car
No sorry bro. Like Mark mentioned, a BOV is a part of a turbo system and if you don't have a turbo, you won't have and won't need a BOV
I’m thinking in doing just a blow off or blow off and intake ! Looking for good noise ! What you think?
You will deff. get louder with a BOV and Intake.
You didn't have to cut fender or anything? Fit right up?
It fit perfectly
can you send the link to where you got it from thanks
¿Qué precio tiene esa válvula?
¿Dónde la compraste?
Esta vende por $120-150. La puedes ordenar por Socal Garage Works o otros citios
Gracias donde la consigo?
I just installed the same bov and I love the sound and everything but it's been about two full days and the fuel Mileage is totally different it's really bugging me. Did yours go back to normal?
Lol I noticed that and it is beyond annoying. not sure what causes it honestly but I just stopped paying attention to it and more on the actual fuel gauge and I seem to get ok mileage
Chayness wouldn't that mean that the car is dumping air and using fuel aka running rich? Since it's effecting the gas mileage
I thought of that but the car doesn't drive any different. I think that meter is just really badly calibrated
I tried it and it worked great
Awesome bro! I'm glad you got a fix for this!
Just to make sure. There is no lack of power?
I'm not sensing a lack of power.... however, theres something I want to test which might come in another video
Awesome cause i have the same BOV. And i was looking to see on how i install it
let me know how you like it?
Chayness will do
How do you pass your smog test?
@@Chayness thanks bro. Keep up the videos!
I did this and my bumper didn’t fit back on
That's odd. This is one of the only BOVs that allows the bumper to fit properly. I wonder if you maybe got a different model?
Hey will it fit on my 2017 Veloster r spec?
It should, this fits all first Gen Veloster Turbo models.
Are you letting off the gas before gear shifting?
Well you kinda have to. Not full on but just for the shift, otherwise you'd end up revving higher and you'd have an odd engagement.
Chayness by doing this don't you end up using more gas faster
@@shaned211208 Well if you're constantly stepping on it to hear the BOV than yes, lol you'd consume more fuel. But on a stick model, you have to let off throttle to shift so I don't think it would make an impact as you cant really shift without doing this.
How much was it ? Also did you get those plastic pieces off so gently ? I always messed them up with my other cars in the past.
The little black clips? You just push them up with a screwdriver gently lol. The BOV was $140.
Did you need to tune it ?
Do you have to get a tune for a bov?
What size hose did you use??
Sorry i'm not sure cuz the hose came with the BOV along with the extras needed
i keep hearing some pros and cons to blow off valves and one of the biggest one being that it makes the engine run rich momentarily and that the ecu therefore supplies more fuel since its used to the air recirculating into the system.
@@Chayness i have a 2016 veloster turbo
@@TheHoodedMenace_ Yea it's the same. Mine was also a 2016 so all this and what I said applies.
Will the BOV work on an automatic or are they just for manual?
It works for any Veloster Turbo: Auto, DCT or Manual :)
@@Chayness does it work for a velosyer not turbo tho
@@yefrincalderon7744 It does not. This is a turbo part only.
@@Chayness thanks bro
I just put the same bov in last night and my engine light is on now has anyone’s else come on?
Ive heard a few people have that issue but usually its a defect in the BOV itself? That or if the vacuum hose wasn't properly installed/ hose is damaged?
Where did you get the valve
Nvm I got it
I actually don't want to disclose the ORIGINAL vendor I used because of how long the transaction took me. If you're looking for one, I recommend Socal Garage Works or Amazon. But support SCGW as they have sales and better support!
Where can I get these?
what year is your car ?
2016
Great friend, I have the same one and I wanted to know if I made that type of valve
You got a link to the part?
There are many different vendors but here's SCGW's link as they currently have a labor day sale going on: scgarageworks.com/product/turbo-xs-bov-replaces-oem-bov/
Ik this is really old but I got this same blow off valve for a 16 vt and it doesn’t feel as fast anymore
I found myself that after awhile, this BOV didn't seem to hold up as well.
I love the fact how it also recirculates as well! I know with a lot of BOV people are robbing engines of boost
you mean the hot recirculated air helps boost?
Did you know if the BOV and the cold air intake void the factory warranty? Please let me know. Great channel.
It depends on the dealership you work with. At mine, I was told as long as it was a simple bolt on, it would not void the warranty. However, I have heard from other people that their dealers aren't too nice about mods so check with your local dealer.
Now it sounds like Ed Bassmaster. Psssh
Do we have this on non turbo models?
You do not as a BOV is only needed in turbo systems
thanks for the video
Thank you
You got a link brotha ?

@@haydenmetz8765 Glad you like it bro! Super happy to hear!
i dread taking off my bumper because of those clips
Joseph Anthony Carrillo III haha yea it's definitely kinda scary. Now I see why people install quick release latches
Will this mod make you fail a smog test??
It won't be visible, but unless you have an intake, most places will know its a BOV and will deff. fail you in a smog test :'(
Damn dude drives like a girl🤓
is it legal in California? badass videos by the way!
Well, thats where it's arguable. Cuz their COULD be blow by. California is just strict about everything lol
nice!
Thanks!
Chayness 👍🏼 check out my alien edition Veloster Turbo video🙊
lol I was actually in the process of it! I like the effects! And your way of adding the space lingo is awesome hahaha I dig it!
Chayness thank you:) it's all apps... LOL do you have an iPhone?
I do! lol whats up?
blow off valves are illegal? since he said about the cops...
In California they are.....
Chayness have you noticed increased performance?
I do notice it holds boost better at higher RPM but I wouldn't say it's a drastic increase in performance.
Theres no need for a turboxs bov, just unplug the recirc hose and the stock bov is extremely loud
Well it's not just to get the sound as I explained in my follow up video. It's actually cuz the stock valve is really weak and easily leaks boost. This one is a much better design and holds boost quite well. That and it's one of the few valves you can still hide and not have to cut a hole in the bumper
Yump & if you just unplug it. Your leaking boost and Power
Doing it Wednesday ,
Good luck!
will this work in a 2016 veloster automatic or not
It's for all Veloster Turbos up to 2017. And probably 2018 unless they change the engine by than.
Chayness thanks men for the info and nice videos
