Update: Fixed! 3Drap gear shifter mod for G920/G29 - The new golden solution

- I don't make a lot of videos but I decided to make one for this mod because all the others were based on initial impressions and the most popular ones were by folks who were likely to go back to their top-end sim racing solutions anyway.
My last video offered constructive criticism on how 3Drap could possibly improve their product. They reached out to me and gave me the chance to test their latest iteration of their mod, inviting me to post a critique of it here. So I did.
Well played 3Drap. I have never known a company with this much brand awareness. Well played indeed.
Note: I wasn't given these parts for free. They were replacements for the previous parts I'd paid for that failed. My channel is also non-monetised, so I have no vested interest in 'promoting' their gear. - Спорт
Guess we all need to make videos of our broken 3drap
Thanks so much for this review. It was properly explained and now I’m really decided to buy this mod!
i know Im randomly asking but does anyone know a tool to get back into an instagram account?
I somehow lost the password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
@Rohan Spencer instablaster =)
@Salvatore Dash Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Salvatore Dash it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
@Rohan Spencer happy to help :)
Good job 3dwrap!
This looks like a cool product but for it to last all moving parts need to be metal for it to hold up.
It simply wouldn't work - you wouldn't be able to select a gear. The video I made before this one showed the problems that happen if the centre piece isn't flexible. There has to be enough clamping force to hold the shifter in gear, but enough flexibility for the gear shaft to be able to move through it without it snapping.
What it definitely does need is constant applications of grease. But even without that, the piece is expected to wear out eventually (which is why you can buy just that piece separately).
Great info! Just ordered their h pattern, not sure if its the latest version.
Just an update for my case. I ordered the latest slider version (3.5) and i installed it. It s a quite hard slider (time will tell), but the 2 round parts that go into the red cylinders are too thin (the 3.3 version was ok). That makes the slider’s horizontal movement very very difficult - even with enough lubricant. 3drap needs to take that into consideration..(i just used a tool to trim the two holes a little bit!!)
Yeah, I spotted that too and mentioned it in the video. If you look early in the vid when I first hold the 3.4 part up, you can see on one angle, the hole's not quite round. I was lucky enough to have a circular file to fix it but it's something they really should have addressed for 3.5.
@@Sifu_Steve the round parts of my samples (3.5) were too tight. I had to use a scissor to widen them. Now they are perfect. I hope they will fix the issue in the nearest future
I got a 3Drap and it broke immediately! However 3Drap who I emailed straight away sent me another one and a spare so of you get one and it breaks email them. The mod itself improves racing especially rally driving brilliantly
Just wondering, 2-3 years later how is the clamp holding up? does it still work or did it start showing signs of stress or wear?
Sadly, I don't get anywhere near as much time on my rig nowadays. But it's held up just fine for about 1000 hours of racing. I make sure to keep it greased, which has helped. It *may* have lost some clamping force, but I haven't noticed it.
How much is this? I am debating on this upgrade or theres a $10 spring upgrade that solves the bland feeling shifts as well. This spring was just released a few months ago so I might do that.
It's currently on sale on their site: www.3drap.it/logi-mods/
The main mod component is €23 and the steel top plate is €10. They've since released an aluminium version of the plate for the same price. It's down to your budget obviously but if you're going with this setup, don't skip the plate - it was one of the factors I identified in the first video.
I have a friend who installed something that used a rubber band. I've not used it, but he's used mine and says it's way better... but mine did cost 3 times as much.
The main selling point with 3Drap's solution is the clamping force when in gear. If the spring you've found does that as well, then it may do a good job. Personally I can't see how any spring setup could, but I've not seen it. Good luck! I find with these sort of things, I either buy nice or buy twice. (",)
Hi, thanks for the video. May I kindly ask you a long term feedback?
Certainly. It's still working with only a slightly noticeable drop in clamping force. I think this new material is not only more flexible but more hard-wearing too. I do have a good routine for maintaining a decent amount of grease which is probably a big factor.
What gear shift platform base did you switch to for the required force increase?
This one, from eBay:
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kit-Shifter-Holder-L-R-x-Logitech-g29-g920-to-Playseat-Challenge-/143605257641?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m2548.l6249&mkrid=724-127637-2357-0
If the link doesn't work, search for 'Kit Shifter Holder Logitech' and look for an Italian seller called 'maraimo'.
It required resetting about every couple of hours and a lot of torque on the clamps. Eventually, because I wasn't using it on an actual Playseat, the join between the two wood parts started to fail, so I switch to the platform that came with my wheel stand. The position is now wrong but stability isn't an issue at least. Eventually, I'll get around to fixing it as it's an easy fix but my rig is stored at the moment...
Hi, you sell the mod or the bp?
Have you got steel or aluminium top plate? What's the difference between those?
At the time I put this video up, they were only offering the basic plastic (+sticker) or a steel top plate. There was no aluminium option.
I do say in this video that the steel plate adds a lot of weight which can mess with your shifter mount, causing it to slip. I would assume that the aluminium plate has been made to address that issue and will be considerably lighter.
@@Sifu_Steve does the slider still works ok (in terms of durability)? Is it still hard? Do y have any update after so many days? I would be interested to know
Yeah, still no problems with the slider. I'd actually hoped it might have loosened a teeny bit by now. I do keep it really well greased though.
@@Sifu_Steve that s good news..i will buy the latest version then! Thanks!
what is the name of this mod i want to buy it cant find it on there website
Mod Cambio v3.5 H-Shifter
How can you get into reverse gear
push the stick downward and then into 6th is R on this one
What about the durability of your new v3.4 slider? Does it stand until now? Is it broke? I m interested to know as i do own the 3.3 version which - after some time - it lost the initial feeling..
I'm happy to report it's still holding up as well as when I first installed it. We're over a month in and the nylon filament is clearly a much better solution than hard plastic. If I'm honest, I was kinda hoping it would have loosened up a bit because the additional force needed to shift can move my mount after an hour or so, meaning I have to loosen it, revolve it back into place and then tighten again... but that's just my own pedantry. The extra flex also seems to reduce the amount of friction and subsequent wear.
As an aside, they've sent me V3.5 but as the screw holes are starting to look a dangerously close to threading (after several removals of the case), I probably won't install that unless this V3.4 fails.
Where did you get the clamp
Ebay. If the link doesn't work, the seller's name is maraimo:

Hey, i ordered this mod a few weeks ago, so it should be v3.5, but i have the one that snapped for you, not the nylon one.
Is that normal ???
If you look closely on the piece itself, you can see what version it is. It should be at least V3.4. If it's anything less than that, it's an error by their picker. If you drop them a line, they'll almost certainly send you a replacement.
I'd be interested to know which version you got. You can just take the top plate off and then take a photo with the flash to see it - no need to uninstall it completely.
@@Sifu_Steve indeed v3.3...
Thanks a lot for your answer, i'll contact them so they could send me the most recent ones ! Thanks again
@@Sifu_Steve i'm not sure that they are really honest with me...
Take a look at their answer :
"Hello,
the latest version of the slider is v3.3 and is made of plastic. The nylon version has been replaced by the plastic one you received a few months ago.
We apologize for the lack of clarity."
So v3.3 is the most recent version and plastic replaced the nylon ones.
I hate when i'm being fooled, not gonna lie, i'm pretty pissed.
Yeah, that's bullshit. Someone at their office doesn't know what they're talking about. The actual company themselves has commented on here. Reply to them with that response and see what they have to say publicly.
If they've reverted to the old V3.3, then I'll edit this video to say it's trash and shouldn't be bought.
@@Sifu_Steve it's confirmed... They went back to 3.3
"Hello,
we apologize if there has been a misunderstanding.
I inform you that we do not produce any medical pieces, but exclusively sim racing products from the beginning of our business.
The mod that was sent to you is V3.5, but on the plastic slider the code is V3.3, and it is our latest version of the slider.
We took the nylon part with code V3.4 out of production as it had problems and went back to the plastic one V3.3.
It is not in our ethics to make fun of the customer.
Sorry if you thought so.
We remain available."
Where can I buy this ?
Search 3Drap and you'll find it easy enough.
@@Sifu_Steve I meant in the US lol
Honestly, I don't think the advice changes. Pretty sure that if you type '3Drap' into Google anywhere in the world (except maybe China, Russia and North Korea), you'll get their website...
To my knowledge, they don't have 3rd party sellers anywhere, so you have to order from their site. I'm in the UK and I seem to recall they have a few production centres. Mine came from Germany.
@@Sifu_Steve the problem is when I go to the Paige the price is in pounds. Also idk how delivery would work . But tnx for the info
@@GamerDadschannel That's interesting because when I bought it, I paid in Euros, ha! One of the perks of 3D printing is that you can electronically send the design anywhere in the world to have it printed locally. I have no doubt you'll be able to order. It could possibly be that you landed on their new 3Drap UK site, not their main site. That's probably why you saw the price in GBP. Good luck!
By the looks of the broken slider when installed compared with the directions, there's a little nub on the top of the slider that is oriented towards the front. In your video it's reversed and could be the cause of your breakage.
If you'd watched the video you would know that I explained, at length, the reason for that (1.54 onwards). TL,DW: It was initially installed the correct way but after the break, I switched it around so that if I was only going to get clamping force at one end, it was going to be in the top range.
