I ended up actually going to the car scrapyard and picking up a couple honda civic si shift knobs. The weight of the knobs make all the difference for me over the super light weight cheap-feeling stock knob.
The only thing I'm slightly concerned about is dust getting inside the shifter since the leather seal isn't there anymore. Because when i don't use my shifter I keep it under my deska which tends to get very dusty. But anything that can improve the Logitech shifter even just a bit is good.
I was thinking the same thing, so what I did is get a micro fiber cloth and cut a small hole in it just big enough for the shifter stick to go through. Every time I'm done playing I just put the cloth on and its been keeping the inside very clean. Takes a second to put on. Hope this helps.
@@KlushOfficial The mod really did help.. I'm not from U.K so 50 euros seemed a little steep for me. The order process was quick & smooth, and I gotta say, it made a huge difference than how the shifter comes stock. I used to shift into the wrong the gear all the time and lose most races, this completely stopped me from mis-shifting
I don’t don’t do driving sims only flight sim. But I recognize the quality of the pieces from the thumbnail and had to watch. Very good quality and a fine video.
Funnily enough the old version of the Logitech shifter that was sold with the G25 wheel can be switched to sequential mode. Works pretty well and is worth seeking out the old version instead of the new one, also because the old one actually feels somewhat sturdier. Also, fun fact: the shifter actually isn't based on microswitches for each gear. It just has two potentiometers (X and Y axis) and the stick movement is fully analog, with the gear switch "button presses" simply being simulated for specific stick positions. If you get the Bodnar adapter that allows you to connect the shifter as a standalone USB device, you can customize the actuation of the virtual "buttons" for the gears, which is of great help if you're trying to avoid mishifts, especially as the shifter gets older and the potentiometers drift a bit.
hrmmm clicked this out of curiosity with what mods are out there for my setup but i hadn't noticed a particular problem with miss-shifts or gears popping back out of place like i've seen in some other videos but i also noticed the people with complaints all are using nicer wheel setups with the intended mounting for the shifter whereas i'm just using an only drafting table with the wheel, joystick (AKA 30$ handbrake), and shifter are all on the same level just with the brake(stick) slightly behind the other two to prevent bumping it when moving to shift quickly. i wonder if perhaps the G29's shifter being a somewhat budget friendly option is designed to work in a tighter space or with the arms higher up than the nice mounts and where most cars would have them IRL. ( i'm just speculating after a morning of mod rabbit-holes) thanks for the vid, great to see whats out there and you covered it in 6 minutes rather thoroughly so that was appreciated. will definitely be back for more videos!~ [edited for typo]
I've certainly experience more mis-shifts using my Next Level Racing F-GT Lite sim rig with the shifter in a more "realistic" position than when it was on my desk.
Same i never misshift with the g29 h shifter but its probably only the people who are used to it since my father sometimes misshifts on it while ive never seen him misshift in a real car.
I absolutely love the gear nobs from Gmod but for the magnetic H-Shifter I would rather go with 3drap's H shifter mod. I think their mod is better as provides more pulling force and it still prevents mishifts. The pulling force goes from the stock 450-500g to 2kg of force.
It’s extremely common to miss shift on this shifter, I have it right now as my main shifter but the reason I got it is that it was very easy to setup and I had a bad history with sim racing, for anyone getting into sim racing I would recommend getting this if you want a 20 sec setup, at least that’s just my opinion.
I need to know if this will handle my hard quick-shifts. Every shift I’ve seen you do in this video is slower and more gentle than I do it when I’m slamming through gears in Forza Motorsport.
I use the MOD CAMBIO V3.5 H-SHIFTER from 3drap which is a better version of this as it has parts that actually give it more tension when changing gears
If the shifter works similar to an arcade stick then there may be a way to stiffen it up. The idea is that a spring pulls the stick into the middle/neutral position. If that is the case then exchanging the spring to a stiffer one would solve this complaint.
With the shifter, I do miss shifts sometimes and it does feel like toy-ish. and sometimes when I'm in first gear it will think that it is third but that rarely happens for me.
I find the gear changes to be OK, having driven old bangers where you needed to manually double de-clutch this stick is a walk in the park, also I don't see the shroud stopping dust and stuff from going down into the mechanism.
man, the finish on the H gated shifter is a mess, it looks pretty good from around but it looks pretty rough from the top... what's the point of polishing it from the sides to look neat but not polishing it from the top? the shifter knob itself is actually decent, but i'd actually just use real aluminum car shifter knobs instead, they cost the same and feel better. you could get an aluminum shifter ball knob or pole knob with a diameter adapter (usually they all come with one) for just around 10-15$. now don't get me wrong, Gmod make a bunch of good stuff. but these two are just... meh...
