    Just another suggestion regarding the heat issue with the engine. Engine ice coolant will help a little by reducing about 30 degrees while idling. If the front lower engine paint by the belly is scratched by flying stones and debris I used PJ1 satin black paint which costs only $16. Worked like a charm + it is made to withstand up to 500 degrees 👍

    I have the + model , 1st thing was to remove the splash guard and replace with the Evotech number plate hanger, this makes chain adjustment a breeze, fender extenders front and rear improve protection for the down pipes and rear shock, it's not a touring bike , it's a naked sportster.
    5000 miles on standard tyres is very good, put it in sport mode and start how you mean to go on, this is a fantastic bike , i love mine, not mentioned in the review is the led on the right of the dash, iv'e turned it off via the easy to navigate menu.
    fuel consumption is working out @ 42mpg imperial gallons here in the UK.
    I love the weight @ 212kg kerb weight, it's incredibly light for a 1000cc 143bhp bike,
    I find it easy to maneuver at parking speeds, getting off my super blackbird it feels incredibly light and compact, i also removed the pillion footrest hangers, it's not a pillion bike, i love it,
    the best bike HONDA has built in years, makes my 1980 HONDA CBX1000Z feel like a truck,
    And it makes my 1980 KAWASAKI Z1300 feel like a ship with no rudder.
    I'm 55 and been riding since i was 12, new modern big bikes are in a different league to what i was brought up on, super bikes from the 80's were savage with 100+bhp engines in frames that may as well have been made of drinking straws, suspension & brakes that didn't work, and tiny narrow cross ply tyres that were shredded in under 2000 miles.
    If you can find one - go ride a CBX1000,Z1300, XS1100, GS1000, they were a proper laugh.

      Excellent comments, thank you! Yes, I did end up removing the splash guard (hugger), I also added a small wind screen to mine (which I love) and generally I just use some metal polish and elbow grease on the pipes and they are holding up fine, despite the constant gravel blast! Thanks for all the great tips.

    Hey buddy thanks for this cool video with some important emphasis on this model’s flaws ! I got a 2019 model which I took the whole exhaust system off and got it ceramic coated for $375 (significant improvement in looks and heat dissipation) + I bought an SW-Motech Belly pan for $200. I live in Florida and I only use 90 octane ethanol free. I swapped the stock chain with a new D.I.D X-ring. Now that I racked up 8000 miles by using Castrol Actevo Semi synthetic oil during that period, now I use Motul 7100 full synthetic and with the 90 ethanol free the bike always feels new and over performing + un clunk when shifting to first gear from a stop. 👍 I appreciate This video Pal and best wishes to you, stay safe ✌️

      Hey Justin - I am almost at 11K on mine - when did you replace the chain on yours? Also, what kind of rubber are you running and what kind of mileage are you getting? I am running Michelin Road 5s now and I am hoping to get 7500 miles on them.

    I agree with everything you said about the CB1000R except for the mpg part. I am getting 42mpg when I ride smooth without a lot of high revs. When I go crazy that's when I get 30-35mpg. It all comes to your riding style. Great video though!

    You're putting some major miles on the Shiny B! Nice review and comparison to the 500. The heat that comes off the motor is helpful when riding in the cold 👌 you bring up good points about the tradeoffs for a larger bike. You don't realize how good the gas mileage and insurance rates are on a smaller bike until you move up 🤯💸

      The mileage and insurance on a litre bike was a big eye opener. I love my bike, but in general I will probably shoot for sub 1000CC on future bikes... but I do love it! Thanks for the feedback! :)

    5000 miles on a set of tyres with 143 bhp is pretty good... Especially if you run them a bit soft as you suggest.
    As for the light show on the dash I agree with you, I like it, it has become a comforting companion on night rides.
    I got the cb1000r plus model on a good 'Covid 19 let's get some sales on the books end of lockdown deal' and can assure everyone that the quickshifter that has a brilliant auto blip downshift er as well is smooth and fast. Recommend this as an upgrade. It will cost but you'll love it.
    Insurance varies with location, storage, town or country, riding experience, claims history blah blah.. I won't tell you my cost here in London UK... Where a bike is stolen somewhere in the city every hour!

    Excellent review thanks very much. I love this bike it looks fantastic and if the only negatives are dirty headers and static weight distribution then Honda is onto a winner. I ride a CB1300S that suffers from the exact same negatives as the CB1000R which to me don’t detract at all from the overall pleasure of owning and riding it. The CB1000R is the next bike to be added to my garage.

    Great Review, I purchased a 19 back in May and love this bike, I've added a Puig screen,mustard bikes Tail tidy (took 6 weeks to get). I have to say your pretty much spot on in this review. The only thing that every reviewer fails to mention is the terrible pencil beam headlight on this bike. I'm in north Jersey and we have a ton of deer which makes riding this bike after dark a real challenge. If you ever venture this far north and need a riding partner look me up.

      Excellent comment, Joe thanks very much for watching. Ya know, honestly I had not even considered my feelings about the headlight! It's cool looking, but yeah functionally it is nothing that great. I often ride on 29 (River Rd.) through Lambertville and New Hope - would absolutely love to rip with another CB1000R owner - if you can shoot me a DM on Instagram and I will give you my contact info - would be great to get your perspective in a vlog post.

    Picked up a new 2019 model recently for $9k. Have only ridden 50 miles before winter hit. Can feel the same as you described. I’m 5ft8 so painful when waiting for lights. Personally I think the plate holder looks good, much better than the “tail” on my ninja. One down side I felt was the brightness of the headlight is not great even though being full LED.Thanks for the vid.

      Congratulations 👍 you got it at a fabulous price ! I bought mine brand new zero miles at $10,650 out the door. If you want more clearance at night try adding some 3M reflective rim tapes, they work great especially if you park it somewhere dark in the city while at a restaurant or a coffee shop, those car drivers sometimes are not paying attention while they fight for a parking spot in big cities . Best of luck and I wish you joy and safe riding always ✌️

    Hey bud nice review! I’m looking at this bike myself. FYI I think the manual says anything above 87 octane is good. Higher octane gas burns hotter so if you’re using 93 and the bike is too hot maybe try lowering it. There’s no benefit to using higher octane than your bike needs anyway.

    Great review, man! I'm a bit in the same situation as you were. I have been driving a CB500X for the last 2 years and am considering upgrading to either the Ducati 821 Monster (2018 to 2020) or the Honda CB1000R+ (2018 to 2020). Right now I am more leaning toward the Honda. How was the handling of the torque when you first rode the 1000? That scares me a bit. The Ducati might have even more torque in the lower revs as it is a bi-cylindre... Any advice would be welcome. Thanks for your very useful review.

    • @The333
      @The333  3 роки тому

      I don't know much about Dukes (they are awesome bikes but notoriously twitchy - I think this is smoother on the newer models). The CB1000R is amazingly well behaved. If you are already on a Honda, the 1000R's power delivery will feel very familiar and confidence inspiring from the get go. Where you just have to be careful is when you get into the higher RPMs (7-8,500) this is where the 1000R bares it's teeth and can (and will) power wheelie on you - even in standard mode - but if you have disciplined throttle control, you will love it. Very smooth and predictable - and FUN!

    Wow the MPG is a shocker. I thought my ZX6R was bad at @42 for a bike. You don't ride it hard on your videos either so I can imagine if your a rev it type it will be worse than what you are getting. Great review, I think you got all of the points for a very informative review.

    • @The333
      @The333  4 роки тому

      Thanks Ro2. Yeah, the best I have gotten (according to the MPG gauge) is 37. Generally when I am narrating videos, I do it on stretches of straight road (not that there are many twisties in South Jersey) and in general I ride chill, but off camera I will ride a bit more spirited (probably no different than everyone else) - but yeah - it's a gas hog for sure.

  • @lafaietcastro
    @lafaietcastro 4 роки тому +1

    One of the best reviews I've seen on that bike. I have less than 1 year of experience in riding a 250cc bike. Would you consider a crazy move to get a cb1000, taking into account I'd always ride it as safely as I can, maybe always on the lowest riding mode?

    • @The333
      @The333  4 роки тому +3

      Thanks for the comment! I certainly would not say it is crazy - but I do think it comes down to your own ability. In standard mode, I do feel even a new rider can handle it safely. My concern would probably be more in handling its weight and size compared to the 250. So for that you will need to really sit on it at the dealership and take it off the stand. The bike is not heavy, however the weight of the inline 4 cylinder engine sits high and takes some getting used to for sure.

    Do those R&G Bobbins on the back wheel allow you to use a paddock stand ? sure i saw a quick clip of the bike on the stand.
    How are you finding the engine vibrations ? Ive owned mine for 2 months now and find anything over about 4000 rpm there is a distinct vibration through the bars and soon leads to pins and needles in the hands. OH ...and have you had the pleasure of adjusting the chain yet ? Couple of design faults there too. You struggle to get to the hub bolts to loosen them off, you almost have to get creative with the tools just to get to them. Plus you cant get a proper reading of the chain slack as there isn't enough room from the chain to the bottom of the swing arm to even fully check the amount of slack. Don't get me wrong i love the bike to bits but i was curious to see if you had come across these same annoyances ?

    • @The333
      @The333  4 роки тому +1

      Spike, thanks for the awesome comment! Sorry if this response is long, but I wanted to answer all your questions (which are all very valid points):
      Engine vibration - I have not found this at all to be an issue on my bike. My first bike was a CB500F which was a parallel twin and very buzzy on the bars, so the 1000R feels smooth as silk to me. However, I do tend to stay in standard mode and I did put on cushier grips, so that may be a factor - I tend to ride in the 6-8000 RPM range unless I am making a statement at a light then maybe up to 10, but all feel smooth (if just a tad bit angry) which I like.
      Yes - I have found that R&G makes the best accessories for the CB 1000R and the Spindle bobbin is amazing. Serves as a slider and paddock bobbins. My PitBull stand fits perfectly.
      I HATE the rear plate hugger Honda stuck on this bike. I am currently working on removing it and putting on a Mustard Bikes tail tidy, Keep and eye out for this vlog as I will be discussing all of the issues you brought up regarding the rear end on this bike - I should have discussed this in the 5000 mile video, however at the time I was not annoyed by it much. But yes, the tail hugger has become a huge nuisance. Overall, I still love the bike however!

      @@The333 Ta for the reply mate, watched a few more videos now on your channel and discovered you had already answered a few of my questions previously. New subscriber from the UK. Liking the down to earth and informative nature of your videos ! Keep up the good work.
      I am still in the break in period at the moment, and am about 50 miles away from the 600 mile first service. Only problem is that due to " The invisible enemy " at the moment i cant take the bike in for a service as the dealership is closed until further notice, am tempted to do it myself and risk my warranty. I hope that once thats done and dusted i can start to ride the bike proper i will find it smoothes out in the higher rpm and will have the same experience as yourself. ( i also own a 2001 R1 and i think i have been spoiled by its softness compared to the CB )
      I have an ABBA stand for now. It does keep the bike very secure once its on but is a bit of a ball ache when trying to screw the stand to the bike while holding the bike at the same time. I wasn't aware of these bobbins till now so might give them a go with a normal paddock stand.
      I share your passion for the hugger, "keep it simple stupid" should have been applied here ! Im glad it's not just me that finds this bike quite frustrating when it comes to general maintenance, thank god for universal joints in my tool box thats all i can say lol. I look forward to the video about these issues and to see how you got on with the tail tidy. I have already watched the Mustard video just a bit of a faff when it comes to the wiring by the looks of it. I will also be ding this mod soon but i will try to just uncouple the wire to the numberplate light rather than just cutting it in half like they did in the video.
      Its still a great bike though despite its little niggles, i just have to look at it to remind myself why i purchased it in the first place. Plus honda UK were doing deals just too good to pass up on this bike = )
      Again keep up the great videos mate just about to go watch the TT one now !

      Thanks - glad you found it useful - I also did a 12,000 mile update video on the bike as well. Well, overall Hondas hold up great, but I do think it comes down to how an individual bike is owned and maintained. My bike (just within the last week) developed a small fork seal leak - so I would look at that. the CB 1000R notoriously chews through tires, I would look at them as well and breaks. But yeah, I think this would be a great used bike for sure!

    Just a quick question but what handlebar mirrors have you put on your bike and have you sourced bolts to fill the space left by not using the oem mirrors ?

    • @The333
      @The333  4 роки тому

      Sure - I went with the CRG Bar end mirrors:
      constructorsrg.com/
      For the empty stock mirror lugs, I used rubber grommetts to seal them - I think these were the size that fit: (measure them first then order the correct ID size on the grommetts)

      Thanks for watching! You can set that light for different things - shift indicator and fuel efficiency are two of them I know of - I think mine is set for fuel efficiency (if the light is green you are using the least amount of fuel - magenta you are using a lot.)

    I got my new CB1000R lats week and am enjoying it, prior to delivery I asked the dealer to install r&g crash protectors and a r&g radiator guard to protect the bike and radiator from unplanned injury. I noticed from your video you changed the wing mirrors to bar end mirrors.May I ask which ones did you use and what was the installation like hard -easy ? Also I have been considering getting a tank bag/ rear seat bag - what bag/s have you chosen to get and how have they worked out. I have been considering a Hepco and Becker tank bag using their magnetic petrol locking mount - do you have any experience ? I have subscribed.

      Carl, thanks for watching and subscribing. In my bike reveal video (called Ch-Ch-Changes) - I go through all the accessories that I had installed on the bike when I purchased it - but in answer to your question the Mirrors are by CRG - I love them - great quality, but slightly on the small side. I use a rear seat bag by Nelson Rig - I believe it is the "Commuter" model and it fits the CB1000R perfectly. R&G makes great accessories for the CB 1000R - the rear spindle bobbin is very cool too. Good luck with your bike and thanks for subscribing - great to have another member of the CB1000R club - it's a great bike!

      @@The333 Thanks for getting back to me. I thought you had put on the CRG bar end mirrors they look good and being adjustable help in the event you are filtering (in UK it is legal to do this), do they give you a better view of traffic behind over the stock mirrors ?. As I use an ABBA stand (UK based Company)to raise the rear wheel up the spindle bobbins would not be necessary for me but I am sure that they are excellent to use to service the chain and provide additional protection should the bike go down on its side for the rear wheel. Like you said in your CCCChange video this is an excellent bike. After 13 months riding on a Ninja 650 I decided to upgrade to my CB1000R and found it is actually easier to ride than the 650, it is easy to change direction, the low hum of the exhaust coupled with pops and burbles when changing gear are great. Knowing that there is untaped power to get you up to speed / out of trouble / overtake is reassuring and thrilling. Like you I bought my CB1000R thinking I want to go on longer rides hence my question about luggage. I am getting between 35 -41 mpg (uk gallons) at present so I think good for the size of engine and according to the Honda stats should see an increase of 40+ once run in ( I like you do not ride my bike as though I stole it). I am glad to have found your channel and look forward to finding out how your experience with the bike goes as my experience extends as well.

      @@carllewis1691 Hey Carl, all good! I am happy to know that a couple of my vids resonated with another person - especially another CB1000R rider. Plus I really dig the whole UK riding scene - so it's cool to get the perspective of a UK Honda rider. I chose the CRG mirrors for 2 reasons. First (and a stupid reason admittedly) is that I hate the look of Stock Honda mirrors - I wish Honda would re-design that part of their bikes and make great mirrors like Triumph has done. Second - yes - the stock Honda mirrors pretty much show you just your shoulders. The CRGs definitely show you what is really along side and in back of you. The downside of the CRGs is their size - they are small, so I really need to stare at them a bit- especially in dim light if a car does not have it's headlights on yet - that is tough to see in the CRGs (plus I have 52 year old eyes). But overall, I like them a lot - they are solid, good quality and work well - and yes - you can flip them up to split traffic.

    You're practically like a freakin' professional vloger now :D So there is a question I've had about the CB1000R since I saw the first review of the bike...... What the hell is that annoying, multi-colored light on the right upper corner of the dash for?

    • @The333
      @The333  4 роки тому

      Ha - thanks man. A very fair question sir - I have grown so used to looking it, that I don't see it anymore, but a lot of people find it very annoying (I actually find it sort of soothing to look at now - especially at night - it is sort of like the bike's heartbeat? I don't know - I am corny! lol).
      It's a visual shift alert. Blue means you are bogging. Green Means you are in the correct gear. Amber means get ready to shift soon and Magenta means you are revving a bit too high. I think Honda sort of made it conservative - I have easily hit Magenta in the 8000 RPM range and the bike red lines at 12.

      @@The333 Really...?? I'd have to cover it or disable such a thing. Not because its annoying(which it is ;) ), but the purpose and fun of a manual transmission is to put the bike in right rev condition for whatever the rider is intending to do. For me, that's done 100% through feel, sound and what's ahead, on or off road. I couldn't tolerate a "dashboard drive" trying to second guess me...

      @@painsrides3616 I agree with you on that, and I am not sure exactly what Honda's thought was on this light. Every Bike Review I have seen on it (except mine, lol) has ripped the "mysterious CB light". Honestly, I ride exactly as you described - through feel, sound and touch. More times than not, the light is magenta or blue - lol. But in some odd way if I am cruising home from a long ride at night and I have the bike in one gear, I actually like the light.
