    In today's tutorial I am working with the TK7 COMBO/CX panel. I will show you how to work with Color Contrast without effecting the Luminosity values of your image, as well as show you how to increase Contrast without effecting your image's color. I will be working with a TK Action entitled RGB-LAB. It is best to apply Color Contrast as early as possible in your Photoshop editing workflow. Once your color contrast has been adjusted you can move forward in your normal editing workflow...

    Every one of you tutorials inspires me. For the first time I have a cleanly explained guide on how to use LAB mode. Please keep TK Friday’s, they are awesome.

    That's the most useful method to explain. It's not only moving sliders but understanding what's behind all these techniques. Great explanations. Thanks a lot!

    TK Friday .... I use Lab A & B quite frequently. That fact you can make a contrast adjustment using lightness without effecting the color in Lab is one more weapon in one's editing skills. Appreciate that tip Dave.

    Dave I've been using TK for years BUT not all of it. These tutorials are great! They are opening all sorts of editing opportunities. Thank you! (and Tony)

    I seem to learn best when you use the Tk7 panel to solve a problem with a photo. There are so many features on the panel that you could probably make a thousand videos based on just a few of the features. I always love your videos (except your recent plunge into the depths of the black and white hole)

    Dave, Another great tutorial on the TK Panel. I could have used this Lab approach with my last image. I think I will revisit it this weekend. As always, your videos are much appreciated.

    Thanks again for another great tutorial. I will give this a try. I think this might be good to apply towards the end of editing a photo, but it's nice that it's a smart object.

    very inspring, as always. IN RGB mode, you can prevent color changes using curves by setting it to luminosity blend mode.

    Great tutorial… one suggestion add a little more lag time between the “before and after”, and maybe do it more than once. Thanks.

    Get info Dave, I'd never heard of this before. But, you can bet your bippy that I'll use it in the future. In fact, we will be going to the Nashville Botanical Gardens on Tuesday, 6/15/21 for a shoot. So, I'll give the LAB Color mode a tryout.

    Interesting new technique to try. How is this different from staying in RGB and sdding color contrast in the color blend mode?

    Dave, love your TK Panel series - keep it up!!! One question - why is this better used at the beginning? I just used it on an image I was working on today and thought it was great - the LAB adjustment on the finished image brought it to another level. Thanks again!!!

    I have a question for you Dave. I have seen some folks set the Lab options to pigment rather than light as you have it here. Why one or the other? I keep going back over these videos and every time I pick up something new and useful.

    Super tutorial. Unfortunately my system/software is acting wonky. When I adjust a & b with curves, the input and output boxes remain blank. :(

    Hi Dave, thanks again for another easy to follow tutorial on the TK-7 panel. You mention that these new adjustments should be carried out earlier in our workflow, well I have just adjusted my workflow around your previous two color alteration videos (vibrance/saturation) and I have also incorporated your Topaz DeNoise and Sharpen into my workflow, SO, my question is, where does this new series of adjustments fit into our latest suggestions for a workflow system, taking into account the first basic steps of tonal adjustments? Thanks for taking the time mate. Bruce.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 роки тому +1

      You are welcome Bruce. I do basic adjustments in Lightroom and then do my sharpening and noise reduction in Photoshop using DeNoise, Sharpen Ai or both if needed. Then I would incorporate these color contrast adjustments after the noise reduction and sharpening.

    Dave, great tutorial as always. I have been using the LAB color space in my workflow for several months but was not using the TK action to set it up. I rarely, if ever, save my LAB file after bringing it back to RGB. Is it possible using the action to not save the LAB file? Not a big deal if not, I can always delete the file or continue using the manual process to bring it back to RGB.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Tim. The RGB to LAB Action duplicates the pixel layer and turns it into a Smart Object and Opens Up that layer as a new document in the LAB Color Mode. After you are done working in LAB Color just Click on the Action RGB to LAB again, it will close the LAB Document and return the result back to the original document with the LAB Adjustments applied... The LAB document at this point is closed. You can always open that layer back up in LAB Mode by double clicking on the Smart Object layer and make further refinements and then just Click the RGB to LAB Action and it will again close the LAB Document and send you back to the original document...

    Tony I'm testing TK8 and I've noticed that I have to manually change my mode to LAB and back to RGB. Have you tried it? Maybe it's just me doing something incorrectly but in TK7 it works perfectly from the Actions menu.

    Do you think Ansel Adams would use monochrome if he had access to the beautiful color that we have now?

    Update: Re-processing with Color Lab. Yes, a wonderful addition to my processing arsenal as the color contrast came to live. PS Dave - I shoot only film and scanning dust is my nemesis, can TK7 "+- Dust" help.

  • @randyranson84

    While in Lab mode, are there any other unmentioned uses for TK7? If so what might they be? For example can color masking be used and held for when you've returned to RGB before being implemented?

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 роки тому

      The action gets you into LAB mode and back out. Once in LAB you can do any types of adjustments you want. At this point I only use it for color and contrast because I like the fact that the color components are separate from the luminosity component. LAB is also great for getting some really vibrant color.
