hehe. I haven't seen anything like that either :D That's why I did it! That's 15 years experience, testing, trying, exploring, failing... ect :) I am glad you enjoyed it!
Lol - I thought it was just me! Fantastic tutorial though @Joanna Kustra. She does have a note in the intro to search for the "stereo" version, but this was very effective. I'll listen in stereo the 2nd/3rd... time around ;)
I am 50 years old. Never had the funds to go to art school. After years of trying to understand colors on my own to move from my black and gray drawings, I gave up, until today. Thank you so very much for this video. Thanks for the hard work you put into creating this for us. Today I have decided to give it a try again thanks to you. I never thought that a video targeted at photography would help me understand color the way you have helped me understand. Thank you a million times. Your photography work is amazing by the way.
This is the GOD level of presentations. Opened my eyes yesterday, watching it for a second time now. Its nice to see that instinctively some of the things I was doing with colours, especially workflow in photoshop - it was almost the same! Time to step the game up. THANK YOU! This was priceless. Best accidental find on UA-cam to date!
Seriously is this thing free. This is legendary. All her life experience, this is lit. Who cares about audio. I don't give a damn. This topic this is sensational. Miracles happen and she made me understand a little even though I'm a dumb head.

This is an unbelievably generous resource, and I echo other comments that it's the most organized and information-packed lesson on color theory and grading that I have ever seen. I literally choked up watching it as I feel like I've been given the keys to the palace. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Holy... this has tremendous density of good advice. Of course I heard about color wheels and color spaces before, but for the first time I understand why I should listen. And so much collateral advice, e. g. "don´t expose you eyes to mediocre color choices", which is basically "learn from the best" and resonates with my experience (for all kind of things). Thanks for sharing
Phew, bit overwhelming watching this the first time. I have been doing photography casually for a couple years however haven’t really dived into theory at all. Every time you think you get descent at something, you find someone else that makes your knowledge look like a needle point, lol. Regardless, this is super well put together and thought out. Thank you for creating this.
I watched this entire video and did not even feel how that hour and 17 minutes passed..This is epic ..The most important is that now i know how much more i need to think..This was so much packed that it was more thennthe equivalent of 2 years watching other videos related to this topic..I am not a pro photographer ,it s just a late hobby and passion , i am a doctor and i felt myself like 25 years ago when we listened to the lectures of some famous proffessors in medicine..This was really very very powerful...I will watch this every week once for sure for several months for sure because i know the impact and the power it can give..I edited my photos by taste and intuition and spent hours to color grade one photo and could not understand why sometimes in 20 minutes everything looks superb and sometimes after hours and hours nothing works..Knowledge and science are very important things in photography and i feel it needs very serious study to achieve that and more i feel that s the easy part and then comes the hardest having your own style the feel and the art which is something you can never learn either you have it in your genes or not..Thank you for this fascinating information given in under 80 minutes..Instantly subscribed for sure..By the way i ve seen a series of one photo from the examples in a facebook group if not mistaken learn to light and i was instantly captivated cause i ve never seen so much powerful photos in that group before it felt the photos in my bones , that s how colors can impact our nervous system..Thank you again...
Wow, John thanks so much for your positive feedback, It means A LOT to me! And I am very glad you found this helpful. It's been about 15 years I've been thinking about this topic, and people constantly asking me "WHY I am choosing specific color sets" and me answering them - "because it feels right" wasn't good enough. And perhaps I found some rule which has always been in front of our eyes - painters are taught these things at school but apparently us photographers not. Anyway, Thank you! :)
Best lecture I've seen on youtube on photograpy. Killed many myths and doubts I had about photogphy and editing. This is truly a valuable webinar. It talks about art and pshchology than the tecnicalities of photograpy, which many others are more obsessed with. I think this is one of the first principles one should have right before producing media or content. Hate the ppl who complain about minor matters. Should be thankful for making this available.
Thank you!!! I have been studying color theory for months and this is absolutely amazing. Your knowledge, examples, teaching- Amazing! Best Ive found!!
This is the! Most appropriate free video available in UA-cam so far in terms of colours. I watch it every now and then to memorise it. Quite in depth video about colour. You are very generous to share this with us. Thanks a lot. Appreciate it.
This is the kind of video I need to relisten to once a month for a year. So much excellent information but balanced well between theory and application. I've been editing my own photos for 10 years and generally just move the sliders around until I get a pleasing look and often being frustrated when nothing seems to work. This video was like a light coming on in my head, and I feel I will be up half the night in Lightroom going back through old photos.
In all my years of photography, this is the best explanation of colour I have ever seen. I am so appreciative of the effort to produce such a overwhelming and interesting discussion..
This is a lot to digest. But this is definitely a gem for photographers who are trying to understand the science of colors like myself. Thank you so much!
I don't normally like or comment of course videos that are averagely made, (some are simply waste of time) but this one is definitely one of the best and most informative I've seen on UA-cam. There is so much information smartly summarised in 1 hour, like I have to compliment and thank you for this piece of jewel. and btw your photos are amazing!
I never comment below a video, but with you... I just want to say THANK YOU! Thank you to explain in such clear and simple way the world of colors! After so many years, YOU HAVE CLEARED OUT SO MANY DOUBTS! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
God bless you, Joanna. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and time. I've learned more about color in one hour then I have in the last 8 years. This is indeed the most professional, and comprehensive lesson on color grading and color theory. I will be watching it again a few more times. I will also be donating!
I thought I understood colour, but this video opened my eyes to a new world! Thank you, Joanna, for this outstanding video. I appreciate the huge amount of effort you put into making such a masterpiece.
I don't know if it's just me, but I get the sense that you're not just a teacher or a professional who shares a few tips and keeps the rest to yourself. You seem more like a mother who generously imparts all her knowledge to her children without hesitation or selfishness. Sometimes when I see people like you, I wonder, "How have you managed to survive?" Because unfortunately, kind-hearted people like you can be taken advantage of by others. MANY THANKS IF YOU ARE STILL SURVIVE
This content is amazing - I learned more in an hour than in months and years of self study. Well done and thank you so much for making it free on UA-cam
Newbie photographer here and my mind is BLOWN! I am so amazed of all that I've learned and will surely need to watch it a few more times! I am excited to plan ahead for future creative shoots!
Holy g- this is the best photography video I've ever seen in my life. Like.. it created a bar for all the videos I've seen that make me realize what they were not. Well done, just... wow...
This is a brilliant tutorial. I suggest breaking into clips and linking back to this full tutorial as the length is not conducive to clicks. An absolutely fantastic breakdown. I will be watching this many times. Thanks for your content.
omg, and this is free of charge? This is simply the best video about colour explaining every aspect, this is almost like a science. It could be hard to understand because it is so complex, but I still can not believe, it is free of charge. Thank you so much, I am immediately following you and all your work.
Hi there! I‘m truly amazed about how passionate you are about Photography, but also how well done you’ve prepared this video.I thank you and wish you all the good things you need!
The quality of this course is that of a master class ranging to a couple of hundred of dollars. I deeply appreciate the effort and excellence you have put in this course and providing it free, at that. Thank so so very much!
Absolutely the best Color Theory class I´ve ever seen! Right to the point and very informative. Thanks Joanna for such valuable help to all of us photographers. Your work is amazing!
I've been shooting for 8 or so years (not portraits) but this is the first time I've heard of color harmony. This opens up an entirely new way of thinking about taking pictures. Thank you so much! I hope you do more videos because the quality of information is top knotch. 🤓📸
I can’t thank you enough. You’ve struck a perfect balance between describing, explaining, and evoking…and I can tell you could happily expand on any given point. This tutorial is my new homepage until fully absorbed.
Thank you for this very enlighting course! Suddenly I realise how much I have to thank my Art History and Visual Studies at the University for, and what it is that disturbes me so much in the photography of people who lack this skill. It makes all the difference and is what turns photos into art. 👌🏻
Usually I’m afraid to even consider watching UA-cam videos this length. This one broadened my horizon although there’s still a lot of haze ….. thank you so much Master Joanna
Best color theory ever presented on youtube and tons of important tips for photographers. Second time I watch this excellent video. Thanks Joanna!!! And awesome example pics - stunning I would say.
I go through life waiting for the right people to learn from. I have watched many videos like this, and learnt many things here and there, but your video managed to get *all* those things to sink in. I have never been into fashion photography, but I like your work because they are more like portraiture, and I love what you do with colours. I will learn to use the colour wheel more in my work from now on. Thank you for this, Joanna. I feel it will prove to be an invaluable resource for me in future.
Love it. Still have to watch all of it, but this is the best video on color theory and grading I have seen up to now, from theory to how to set up the monitors etc Excellent. Thank You.
I can't believe im just seeing this video.... This is the best video or course on colors i have ever seen. The practical part knocked me out a little bit, but i'll definitely be doing the most to apply these changes to my photography works. Thank you Joanna
Absolutely the best discussion of color theory I have ever seen. Just a stunning presentation, and the information will make any artist, in any medium, better at their craft. Bravo!
This course is so fruithful that even after watching it three times, i'm here again because i know i still got more to learn from it. I'm very grateful
This was literally eye opener, thank you so much for putting this gold mine of knowledge for us mortals. I've been wandering around a lot lately for a good source on color technique/style/art for photography and here I found much more than I expected. Looking forward to see more content on your channel! Thanks!!
To anyone having one-sided audio issues I'd suggest turning on mono audio option in your device's settings, that might solve the issue. Also remember to turn it off if when you're listening to music as it might terribly mess up the experience. And a huge thanks to Joanna for this amazing resource ❤️
This course changed my vision dramatically! I just watched it and decided to rework one of my photos. The result is MORE THAN AMAZING! You moved my photos to the next level! MILLION OF THANKS TO YOU!!!!
As an engineer that has recently taken up photography, I really enjoyed the technical aspects of the video and it actually made everything much more intuitive. Fantastic video! Thank you!
Thank you Joanna, this course is really the best. It took me longer than the duration of the video, I had to watch it several times, move forward, go back and everything with my notebook in hand, I write, I pause, look for more references on the Internet, I continue with your video and although long ago I reached the end I have resumed it and returned to see or look for something punctual. I have used it as the basis of the study of color theory. It has helped me to reaffirm what I have read from books and to understand much better. I really believe that color theory is very important in any field of photography that we do, in fact in any area of visual communication, since this theory is not a type of formula to improve visual art, but explains real phenomena that occur in our mind, therefore we must understand the theory and apply it because although the viewer does not know color theory their unconscious mind does. So I also think that it is not a topic in which you should see the video and ready, so I read in the comments many complain about the duration, well, I think studying is studying, we get anxious and we want everything already, even knowledge. It seems to me that this video is about watching slowly, absorbing what you can, writing down, executing what you have learned in sections. The truth is that if you are a professional this is a quality that you should have. Again, thank you for the video and take the time to give so much information for free.
If you stop to analyze any color palette is correct, there is always a rule that the colors fit together. There is no right or wrong. Your color corrections are based on references and personal taste. I hope that with AI, software will soon be able to propose automatic adjustments based on the chosen color scheme.
Probably the best video I have seen on colour theory and colour grading. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise on the subject, I'm truly inspired to get out there and try these techniques. Amazing, thank you !☺♥
I purchased a calibrating tool and color checker based on this video, even with my qualified RGB screens, I see a massive difference in both my images and the examples you posted. Thanks for the great webinar!
I've studied several art books getting a hold of color theory. I've labored on colored pencil drawings adjusting schemes. Photography is also my forte. This is fantastic and I can't wait to refer others to this tutorial. You have easily made the best presentation I've seen on the subject. WOW! For those photographers not doing fashion don't dismiss this video. These schemes and her methods are rock solid for any subject.
I first watched this video about two years ago and now am watching it for the third time. I love this video and recommend it often to friends. This webinar has opened up my eyes to color grading and has allowed me to improve my photography significantly. And a little anecdote: When I first watched this, I found the references to the BenQ monitor to be a bit repetitive, in particular since spending the money for a pro monitor was not something I could imagine I would need or do. However now as I watch this webinar for the third time two years later, I smile at the memory of that, because now on my work desk my own BenQ SW270 is waiting patiently for me. 😄
You have shared so much knowledge and education in this tutorial, I feel very lucky to have found it. I am about to start a Commercial Photography Degree and feel I am ahead of the game for watching and taking notes throughout. Thank you Joanna - Truly Appreciate this video!
Thanks for the lovely feedback! I don’t think that anyone teaches these things in photography schools. I know a lot of people who finished all sorts of photography degrees, but the topic of colors is somehow omitted. You either get it intuitively or not. Keep in mind these rules apply to any type of photography. And I am very glad you found it useful. Good luck with the photography course! ❤️🥳
Joanna... absolutely top of the world.. the ultimate Colour Guidance Expert.. cannot believe (in a good way!), that u r not an arts & graphic person.. Power to u lady .. colouring our world.. cheers, vernon_alvares .. Mumbai, India

@@joannakustra yep. I go through the description only if mentioned in the video or I need to check the published date. Thanks for sharing your techniques. It was inspiring.
I have no words to describe how useful is this masterclass/video. I am really happy to see people with a keep-improving mindset who take their skills to the next level. Thank you!
This is literally the best course I've ever seen on Color Theory and color harmony. Excellent.

sorry guys for the inconvenience ;/ I messed that up.

Feels so weird being able to watch this for free!
Thanks Kees. I do have a link for donation in the description :)
Facts 💯
"I'm not a very technical person"... proceeds to give the most technical explanation of color theory the world's ever seen.
This is the GOD level of presentations. Opened my eyes yesterday, watching it for a second time now.
Its nice to see that instinctively some of the things I was doing with colours, especially workflow in photoshop - it was almost the same! Time to step the game up.
THANK YOU! This was priceless. Best accidental find on UA-cam to date!
this is Pro-level training, Thank God for youtube and the utmost gratitude to the author for sharing this premium content.

I've recently purchased two courses on colour theory/grading and ironically, this free UA-cam video is by far the best...well done.

You're so welcome!
Amazing, thank you !☺♥
The best on this topic so far. From basics like what each represents to pro level understanding of this topic is shared. Thank you so much for this.
Absolutely mindblowing. Thank you for putting this seminar together.
This is my third time watching this video spaced out within a few months and I'm learning more and more each time. Thanks for sharing!
Exceptional and sensational webinar on color management of your photos. You have made me aware of an issue i would normally stay away from. Thank you
A master's course in color. Brilliant talk and presentation! Thank you so much for sharing this!
Whenever people judge you, remember that 252 people disliked and moaned about the sound on a flawless FREE tutorial on colour.
Thank you so much. This is something I have been searching for years.
A masterpiece of color-grading seminar. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us
This is one of the best color grading tutorial I found so far. Thank so much Joanna Kustra and BenQ.
You are right colors are 100% personal. I love cold colors and always feel like it looks wrong when i see warm end yellow pictures.

@@elmersbalm5219 I did this in the description months ago, but no- one bothers to read it :D
Thanks fo adding that. Did my Timestaps in the description were lacking something?
@@joannakustra Wow, I totally missed those haha. For some reason the chapter functionality didn't show up on your video so I was assuming there weren't timestamps. They were not lacking at all, thank you for this great video!
Thank you!
This is so fascinating, I did not have a clue about 90%of this. A must watch.
