I think you also need to build a toll tunnel from the Freeway at Matilda Point that then turns to go to the Northern Suburbs of Dundee, like a bypass built a little later on, similar to the NorthConnex or WestConnex tunnels in Sydney.

Time lapses were all great but I loved the first one since it reminded me of a train station near me. It’s alway so satisfy to wake to an Oceania episode! There is also a beach in rosebud that is amazing and also quiet calm that has heaps of tourists but out the back of the bay there is a huge rock that has a huge deep(10 meters) pool under it and you can jump of the (8-15 meter) rock that there are nearly no tourist there.

This is unironically one of the best episodes you've made. The 45-minute timelapse experiment was complemented so well with the SimCity 2013 music (which as you said slaps) and it feels like the city truly is growing. Not to mention how much progress you've made in this episode, it's ridiculous!

    • @deansherry4155
      @deansherry4155 Рік тому +1

And that is where I can step in:
Friedrich Müller was a German immigrant who came to Australia in the mid-19th century. He established a farm bearing his name.
When the railway came, the government needed a name for the station, and so they selected the name of the local farm and added -ville to it, making it Mullerville. The suburb grew up around it, as 2.20 said.
And so, over a century later, Mullerville, once the home of a small family farm, is now an inner suburban neighbourhood.

You can construct a roundabout at the opposite end of that small bridge, with an on- and off-ramp on the hill side of the freeway.

I live in a neighborhood on the edge of Boston USA called Jamaica Plain theres an old mansion that they've turned into a community center, when I was a kid they would have movies on an old projector and they have markets year round as well as live concerts, on a hot day it's the most bustling place in the community. I think something like that in this small neighborhood or any other smaller areas of Dundee would really complete it.

The condensed cinematics are great. Lovely reminder of the tons of work you put in, and we appreciate it!
In terms of visitors, I live just north of Washington DC. Museums and monuments are great but I always recommend people visit the parks in the area! Rock Creek Park is a huge area with tons of walking, hiking, and cycling trails. There are tons of wooded trails popular with locals especially if you like biking- Sligo Creek and Anacostia River Trail is a favorite of mine, the Capital Crescent Trail is good too. All paved routes through forested neighborhoods accessible by metro. DC is probably one of the better cities in the US and Canada too for biking in the city itself, with a lot of protected bike lanes and a cheap bikeshare system.

Railways (and to some extent, highways) in Sydney originally developed along ridgelines that ran around the harbour and Cumberland plains. This was much cheaper than just flattening the land for rail. You can really see examples of this on the northern line around wollstonecraft, and up the blue mountains.
Would be great if one of your new train lines could be developed in a similar fashion. A more historic line that is not as efficient because it is following a ridgeline!

it's funny hearing how tickets are all electronic. In the U.S., (especially NJ), most stations still have ticket kiosks, and on NJ Transit if you purchase a physical ticket at the machine or kiosk, the conductor will physically hole-punch the ticket still.

That music does slap. Trying to think of something and an idea that came to mind is infill subdivisions. Land sold off by the council, the state, or other large land holder being developed with distinctly contemporary housing stock (I've noticed developers in Perth seem to be in an intensifying love affair with putting townhouses in their subdivisions now too) amongst a sea of pre-established development. You could even put down a little sea-container sales office.

While I enjoy the story telling in Sunset city lately I've found or felt little progress is being made because you keep deleting areas and rebuilding, deleting, rebuilding. This felt like marble mountain or vintage 2.20 builds where something is completed or very close to and we look forward to a new build the next week. My idea for the highway connection to the first town:
Don’t build one. The town’s residents probably all commuted via rail during the highway boom, and likely would’ve opposed the construction of an off ramp. They likely even blocked the highway from going through their suburb. Of course it’s been a bit of a double edged sword, it led to some blight and lower interest in the 70’s and 80’s, but now it’s seen as a quaint gem close to Dundee

5:20 Pro tip when making custom curvy stations: Intersection Marking Tool allows you to draw in decorative networks, including platforms. Makes drawing platforms in sooo much easier since the platform stays parallel to the track and you can adjust the distance and height more easily.

@@twodollarstwenty you can also use IMT to draw in props. So if you want a bench or a bin or a passenger information display to be placed at regular intervals, you can do that with IMT and you can control the location and angle of the props precisely. You're also able to control when networks and prop lines start and end, which you can use to say, make one part of the platform wider by having multiple platform "rules" on the same line with different offsets. I've used this technique when building elevated stations to create a hole for a staircase down. Some retaining wall networks are also compatible with IMT...
The only catch is that all the props and networks you draw in with IMT have to be parallel with the network you've selected.
Either way, IMT has a lot of functionality ever since the ability to add props, trees, decorative networks and even text, as well as the ability to draw lines on any network was added. Just don't go too far down the detailing rabbit hole...

16:03 In the early 1900s, a rich family toured young Dundee. They fell in love with the view of the water during their stay and decided to build a house by the waterside. Later, when the city became bigger and the house had been sold, more tourists began exploring Dundee. The new owners of the house decided to convert the house into a hotel. As more tourists began exploring the city, the new owners added more buildings. However, the hotel fell out of business in the 70’s and was abandoned. A few years later, a group of people, mostly from the neighborhood that had developed, started an organization to recognize the building for its history. The building has since been converted into a historic tourist destination but one of the buildings is still kept as a historic hotel.

Not sure why, but the name "Crompton" sprang to mind for the neighbourhood when you mentioned the industrial part. There was a man from my hometown of Bolton (UK) called Samuel Crompton who invented the Spinning Mule in the late 18th century which would be widely used in the cotton mills during the Industrial Revolution. In terms of tourist spots his old house called Hall i' th' Wood was turned into a museum, I don't know if many people go there but it's a really interesting place to visit.

I love the idea of the quarantine facility. If you're not sold on that idea the area could also be re-purposed into military barracks / artillery stuff, left over from the war. They're all over the hills and coastlines around New Zealand. I don't know if you've already done something like that, I haven't watched most of this series.

Im loving the series you do such a fantastic job of capturing Australian and New Zealand Cities. Im wondering if its possible to add a smaller second city in Oceania - centred around a river? Australia has so many "river cities" - Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Parramatta etc. I live in Parramatta and it would be so great to see the people of Oceania try and build a "second CBD" to alleviate some pressure that Dundee is having on its services and infrastructure.
Just a suggestion! Keep up the great work!

The suburb in the hills just reminds me of Kelburn and Northland in Wellington, which is really cool. Also mentioning the quarantine facility reminds me of the Somes Island (Matiu) quarantine station in Wellington Harbour, it was used to hold the livestock before taking it to the mainland and at the end of WW1 it was used to quarantine returning soldiers. Now it's a scenic and historic reserve with some breathtaking scenery. That could be something cool to incorporate into Oceania :)

This is awesome! I’m not sure if you have done anything like an observation deck looking over to the taller buildings from one of the taller bits of terrain but that would look cool, make it into a nature park or something

The timelapses were awesome! That quarantine station could also be the surviving buildings of separated penal buildings, or maybe officer barracks from a late 19th century shore defense?

As a fellow Sydneysider, there's just something very cozy about seeing those Tangaras make their way through your city. They're great
As to you asking about places that tourists often miss - an understated but quite beautiful one in the inner west is the park / trail that hugs the Cooks River. Really good stuff there if you wanted to work sokething similar into your city

In terms of that highway connection you were thinking about, this reminds me a lot of small towns near where I grew up around Kapiti, where new highway projects have only made the connections that were most convenient to build, letting traffic go along local roads to a bigger intersection if they want to go in a direction that isn't served by their intersection. Could also be the case here (maybe having easy access going away from the city but not toward, or vice versa)

At 18:15 you put the roundabout the wrong way. you can see it again when you put the bus route in at 24:04 the traffic crosses over itself. Otherwise very good builds!

Better idea for that Highway relocation at 17:15 you should leave it like that for future expansion of the highway as in like they are expecting the population growth to be so Greta that they will need to add more lanes or build a new highway. The station can be built above the highway and make it look like a station floating above the highway.
