Biffsy baby, there are so many vanilla props other than just rocks, trees and fences. Have you ever considered using the odd flower planter, hedge, maybe a kiosk or two? You don't have to go overboard or visit the workshop, but some wee flowers here and there will make it look like some of your citizens are making an effort, rather than just fencing off areas of wild trees.

Hi Biffa, I really enjoy your videos but I have a few suggestions: When you talk about realistics, we have to consider your Public Transport: Normally busses and trams have stops in each direction not only in one. I know it's tempting to do it in your way but I think it's more realistic in the other way.
Furthermore, I would suggest to speed up the speed limits on your separated tram tracks (next to the train tracks) as they are only 40 right now. I think 70 or 80 would be legit an also realistic.
The last thing I would suggest: Combine your train lines to one line to keep things simple.

Really enjoyed this! Thanks for including the fly-by especially when it comes to the night view 😍
Now that that road to the train station is set back (the train station where people used to jump into their cars) it would make sense to complete the bicycle paths in that area again, because right now there's that small patch of road that doesn't have integrated bicycle lanes.
And in the new part of town, instead of pulling the green busline to the new train station what you could also do is put in more walking paths. The green busline looped two parallel streets over, that end of the street could have gotten a walking path as well, gives people more options. Even though the bus stop directly in front of the train station is a good thing, I'm just mentioning this in advance for when the traffic around there gets even heavier and the many buses might end up clogging up the streets.

thanks for using my idea to tuck along the edge like that, it turned out perfectly and is quite interesting to see too. i think some of the most interesting designs and features occur when you have to work with what you have instead of just changing the terrain or buying another square to suit your needs.
at that same station though, you might consider taking advantage of the grade change to delete the grade crossing at the other end. just run the rails out level and bring them up after going under the road. that would let you get ahead of potential traffic problems, especially if cargo trains start transiting through later on for point-to-point cargo.
and the people that told you are absolutely correct, wither few exceptions standard gauge trains are as straight and level as possible, everything else is generally built around them. and i have to say, those nice smooth runs you have here, outside of a couple of kinks, seem very natural.

I don't know how it is in American cities, but in general agglo railway works in this way. There's many urban and suburban lines at full railway standards and metro goes to extremely fully loaded and most urbanised districts, most lines are just rail (but most on dedicated tracks).
In most connections where American overpay on metro, Asian European etc. uses trams and railway (especially since railway network is very dense for all contintent).
In European cities also each service is in one fare so you use one the same ticker no matter if you use bus, tram, metro, city rail, urban rail, regional rail going through city limits. Since cities have dozens directions - cheaper and more convenient is building two more tracks parallel to national network or share traffic on minor ways. Metro is built where railway doesn't reach.

One thing I gathered from your traffic fixes is that spreading out your industry areas really helps with decreasing traffic. What I do in my cities since I have Network Extensions 2 is the following. I use the small one-way zoned street to create my very own bus stops for multiple bus lanes. I restrict the road to taxi and bus only and after all lanes are set up I beautify it with trees and park props.
Besides what I did with my multi platform trainstation is that only one or two are connected to the outside (interceity trains) and the rest is for local lines. This way you reduce the traffic and noise within your city.

Biffa, I really must commend you for the improvements in your train lines! As a railfan , when you used train-abouts, steep elevation changes, and those goofy 3 way intersections, i had to cringe and fast forward. I realize their is only so much one can to with time constraints and the fact that this IS a game, but still cheers for the more realistic layouts!!!

22:25 I usually have the metro connected up to the big stations, where the metro will then have stops all throughout the neighbourhood, usually like 3-4 stops as you don't need much.
So it's funnelling the stuff essentially.

    Hey Biffa,
great work on that train stations! At 26:16 the pillar of the railway bridge, however, is still on the road! Please fix it. :) You can see it at the top right section of the screen. This is the 3rd time I've mentioned this now. But no one seems to read this. :(
Keep up the good work! :)
    Cheers!

There are absolutely huge buses that can hold 150 people on the workshop. I find them very useful and I believe they don't brake any sort of realism.
Also, you can modify the capacity of any mass transport vehicle with the transport mod you have.

3:26 Drop it under the road while your at it Biffa so you can eliminate the crossing (used by cargo) at the same time :)
13:50 Due to the Yellow bus still in service (too many buses I would guess) you'll get less for the city train.
Other then that it's starting to become a real nice city ... just waiting for a entertainment park near you multi plat :D

When I do a train network, I like to use the one-sided train hub. One track to take in intercity trains, 6 others for different lines. But I have 2, one on each end of the city.

I think that the tracks from the multi platform station should go under the road and build a nice road bridge over the tracks. It's more realistic to build 1 bridge vs 7 or however many. Great city so far!

Things like 3:07 make me think there should be an asset like a spiral ramp you could add to connect roads with very different elevation levels like that where there's no room to put in a realistically-looking slope.
And speaking of connecting different elevation levels, also a mod that changes steep enough walkpaths into stairs.
Oh, and some, iunno, texture packs or something to put on cliffs so you don't have to look at sheer rock all the time.

  •  4 роки тому

9:41 you can draw a path behind the train station and people will walk straight out of the back instead of the long way around

You forgot the pink tram line going back to bring them to the train station. They would have to ride all the way around to get to the train station if they are coming from the industry area. Also, you have one crossing point and all direction junction with the highway (where your residential and businesses are), which creates traffic jams because they have only one crossing point and not other options. Similar with the all direction junction, if you added a junction at both ends (where you have one direction entrances and exits) it would prevent queuing at the singular intersection.

  • @hellsop

22:14 The real way to make underground tunnels more realistic is to make them cost much more than they currently do. Tunnels currently cost about six times what surface roads do, and they should probably be more like 200 times more than surface stuff to built and keep up. (Building city roads with all the stuff underneath them to support water and power costs about $5million per mile more or less in the US, and bored tunnels are close to $1billion per mile. "Cut and cover" is less expensive, but to make a game version of that, you'd have to do something like "This automatically bulldozes everything two zone squares to either side of the road and leaves flat, grade-level empty ground above. Cannot happen under where there is water." That's okay for the occasional highway interchange, but crosstown tunneling for the sake of making hyperspace bypasses stops being feasible without the fantasy of infinite money being turned on.

I think you should add roads with bicycle lanes in poinTea square and connect the train stations with bicycle paths. I also think that maybe the train could also stop at Downtown Teatown (near the tram road, do that they have a fast link to the festival area and ParTea Village) and in SipaTea Park.
Also maybe you can upgrade the gravel roads in Teatown to roads with bicycle paths or just normal roads with trees
