I think this is the secret formula for Cities Skylines videos on yt. Not too long - not too short, not too detailed - not too fast, being able to see the progress and the cities actually being beautiful and harmonised and making sense realistically.

I love that you used classic SimCity and The Sims music with this video. SUCH A NOSTALGIA TRIP!! - and playing those games as a kid is part of the reason I love Cities Skylines now. Fantastic work - would love to see more projects and challenges like this. :)
This was absolutely masterful. As a total noob who usually gets overwhelmed on the vanilla build by the time I get to about 10k pop, I was in awe of this. Also there was so thing strangely moving about seeing the elderly Shirley wandering around her namesake town.
I looove that you use sims background music, it’s so soothing and nostalgic for me. Also the forest fire still raging at the end killed me 😂 good job at hitting 50k!

Not usually into vanilla stuff but this was sooo much fun! Loved the fast commentary it really suited it like a speed run type thing and different to other cities skylines content. If do these in future I’d say keep the fast commentary speed run style! The city actually looks really great and was rooting for you to get to 50k and never doubted ya for a sec… bravo my guy! I'm 4 months late, but those slow panning shots with jazzy elevator music at the end... with the city just nervously, yet triumphantly existing despite the giant forrest fires looming above had me cackling. In some ways, we are all Shirley. Great work man.
I like this, and would like to see more in the future! There's a challenge I like to see others do called "Fix the Traffic" scenario where a moderately sized city called Appletown has a really dysfunctional street layout with traffic that's absolutely... fracked. Another is Las Vegas. Hope to see you do them!
Honestly I loved seeing you do this type of build. Felt refreshing. Would love to see more of this type or similar. Something like building a city on a custom 9tile map with minimal mods like move it, network multitool,forest brush, landscape mod to make things look neat and pretty, no assets just themes and all that jazz. Wonder how would that be.

That’s a really neat idea to name the city after the very resident that moves in. I hadn’t ever thought to do that. You’re correct that a lot of traditional cities were named either after a person that first resided in the area (either their first or last name) or after the group/tribe/clan that dwelled there. In the US, cities and towns also get names in other ways. The most common is to name the new city/town after where the early residents came from. I my state we have a city named Prague because the founding residents were Czech (the city still celebrates its Czech heritage). However, to ensure there’s no confusion between this city and the one in Europe the founding residents referred to this city with the pronunciation of “Pray-g” which is how it’s still referred to even though the spelling is the same. Other cities were named after their founders, but some are railroad cities so the owners of the railroad named them. My city was named after a character in Arthurian stories by the railroad chief. Some towns/cities were named by the US Post Office. Sometimes this was done by local post masters with the permission of the residents to come up with a name or it was done because the residents had chosen a name that was already used nearby by another town/city. The name was supposed to be temporary until residents chose a different name, but the residents didn’t get around to it. Sometimes cities/towns were named by combining or shortening other place names. Example: Lahoma is just Oklahoma without the Ok in it. Okarche is Oklahoma-Arapaho-Cherokee shortened to Okarche. Then you have cities/towns with corporate names either because the company was a founding company or because the company paid the town to rename itself. DISH, Texas is an example of the latter while Hershey, Pennsylvania is an example of the former. And of course there’s plenty of cities/towns with names of heroes, be they historical or of the town. In Oklahoma City metro area cities/towns sometimes merge so Putnam City High School is a school in Oklahoma City, but its name gives away some history. Anyways, you’re the second video I’ve watched of someone playing the game and developing characteristics to the city that make it feel real! You named it after the first resident (and even made her house historical and preserved it). The other person had businesses, parks, neighborhoods, etc named after cims. These are great ways to play the game with more depth. I’ll admit that I hadn’t thought to do that letting the game provide me with such info (i.e. using the cims themselves). I mean, I have named the city, streets, etc, but they were names I chose on my own from nowhere. Using the game itself to get those names and build it into a history is a neat way to play that I hadn’t considered. I think I will give it a try. Great video! It was fun both watching you challenge yourself as well as just watching you weave a unique history for your city. Thanks for making and sharing!

If you'd like a suggestion, I'd be keen to see how big a city you can make in a single tile. You could call it "New Kowloon" (a dark name, but one that would fit).

Ive been watching your videos for a little over 2 years now, since Mid-Marble Mountain and I gotta say: The story telling around a city growing, all densed down in one under 20min video where things move quickly from one area to the next has extremely high entertainment value. I found myself watching the whole thing from start to finish which I rarely do. I usually just skip through the video to see what things you built this time. This new kind of videoformat and the story telling keeps me interested. I would love to see this continued.

This game is so cool how you can build the city of your dreams. Any way you like it. People bash on simulators, but this is the closest most people will come to knowing the joy of being an architect, and seeing your designs come to life to be apart of a living, breathing, city. Sorry, got a little deep there. Lol

For the start, I'd actually recommend vanilla. There really isn't a whole lot that's in need of tweaks immediately.
I love that this is not only a challenge video that is different from your normal video's, but has a whole Shirley Cinematic Universe attached to it.

Creating a city with only skyscrapers
it's literally insane how he can do all of this. I am still learning how to play this game, and seeing how he just imagines how the roads overlap, and how he connects the railways is literally amazing. Great video!

I love these videos where you don’t just build a city, but you tell a story that we become connected to.
Next challenge should be 100,000 residents in 15 or 20 hours
maybe you should try the most neglected mod in all of cities skylines…

Ive been watching your videos for a little over 2 years now, since Mid-Marble Mountain and I gotta say: The story telling around a city growing, all densed down in one under 20min video where things move quickly from one area to the next has extremely high entertainment value.
I found myself watching the whole thing from start to finish which I rarely do. I usually just skip through the video to see what things you built this time. This new kind of videoformat and the story telling keeps me interested. I would love to see this continued.

This game is so cool how you can build the city of your dreams. Any way you like it.
People bash on simulators, but this is the closest most people will come to knowing the joy of being an architect, and seeing your designs come to life to be apart of a living, breathing, city.
