This is exactly what I have been dealing 2 weeks after purchasing. It has been to Honda dealership twice. That is not where I bought it that dealership is being anything but helpful. Thank you for the Post
Park pin in the shifter assembly gets hung up, it is an input signal to the keyless access control unit, it needs to see an off signal or it will not let you out of accessory mode. I recently had a 2017 ridgeline touring with this problem, I adjusted the shift cable as outlined in the service manual. Problem is now resolved.
Hi there, mine 2017 Sport have same problem since first day. Dealership told that the parameters of the parking mode was out of range. If you notice, when you tried to put it on parking mode, you can't. It is between parking and reverse. Thats why truck does recognize and stay in accesesorie mode. Thats why you hit it hard to parking and sometimes get it. Because you are forcing it. Dealership remove center console and all componets involve on it and resolve it instantly. Like never happend. Good luck.
Thank-you for that input! They thought that was an issue on this and adjusted mine when I first bought it. Still happening and now they say the whole shifter assembly is defective on this one. I am just waiting for the new shifter to arrive and will let you know what happens. Thank-you again!
Service Bulletin 20-117, for 2016-17 pilots and 2017 ridgeline. American Honda is extending the warranty for the keyless start system on these vehicles to 9 years from the original date of purchase or 125,000 miles, whichever comes first
I had the same issue but my car would start just all those warnings. It turned out the fuel injectors were the issue. Honda Dealer said that even though my warranty was expired this was covered for free.
+Vstar Vstar yes there is a second video showing a longer hold on the button. Although shutdown mode is instant when you press the button- no need to hold it in at all.
2016-2017 Honda Pilot & Ridgeline have a recall on Push buttom start , just received advisory letter from American Honda Motor Co. be inform to your local Honda dealer.
Hey Mud Brat can you tell me if you have this clicking sound. This happens every time I put the the truck in Reverse and as it's rolling back I tap the brake pedal. It only clicks once but if I drive forward again and repeat the process I can get it to click again. Only happens while the truck is in Reverse. Thanks. RTL-E AWD with 7k on clock.
they had to replace the shifter Linkage and hand control - it was faulty from day one leaving the lot. No dealer could see the problem and then finally a mechanic at Cambridge Centre Honda found the gremlin and i had no issues after the fix
I had a 2017 ridgeline for 2 years now. If it does that, just push the stick forward a little and it'll turn off. Sometimes it isn't all the way up. Just an easy push, no need to wind up and slam forward
a tran this one had a faulty shifter - it needed a firm slam into park/ they finally replaced it and yes the second one sometimes needed the button flicked to engage but it was a lot better... i dont miss the push button start. My new truck has a key
I think you are misunderstanding how the push start works and why starting it allows it to function how you think it should work. It took me about a week to get use to the BMW push start. If you want the car to turn off, do not have your foot on the brake. The brake is the signal for it to go to accessory and then start. By actually starting it and then moving to drive and then park you have created the scenario of a drive session . That logic allows it to be turned off with your foot on the brake since it most likely uses the park signal. Took me a week in the bmw to keep my foot off the brake. I kept restarting by hitting it twice . Once to turn the car off and another to turn the radio off( accessory off). The BMW uses only the brake signal.
Mud Brats TV , yeah I saw that you posted that but in your video you clearly held the brake pedal before pushing the button. “Foot on the brake, press button...2 more times to turn off “ but you didn’t say you took your foot off. And it shows you still had your foot on it.
It had to have the shifter assembly replaced. They took a while tho as they couldnt get a ridgeline unit and then they had one but it turned out to be a Pilot assembly - So longer to get fixed than I wanted. Is it just me, but with my most recent CR-V and Ridgelines, Honda doesnt seem to have the product quality it once did 10 years ago
I never really had any problems with my Honda's until this Ridgeline. This did get fixed - Ended up needing the shifter replaced. However it was an annoying problem to have on such a new vehicle from the get-go
@@josesbox9555 Other than that glitch it was a good truck - Stay tuned as I am just about to upload the 96000km review of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline EX-L (or RT-L in the USA)
haha youre funny.... nice diagnostics from your keyboard. I guess thats why Honda replaced the entire shifter assembly due to it being faulty - you better tell the 2 dealerships that know of the problem but couldnt fix it your theory

Ok, solution on your way!!!
That's crazy, I haven't had any issues with that. I'm thinking most Honda's have that starter too. Hope it gets fixed
Ryan Tate atay tuned, we have figured out a way to make the truck do it 100% of the time and think we have a fix.
Yes I think its going to get fixed - its an issue with the shifter - getting replaced soon so I will keep you posted - Thank-you for watching!
Wow this worked. Thanks!!
Glad it helped!
Just had my Ridgeline do that to me for the first time last Saturday.

Thats great of them to do that!
Have you tried holding the button Down for a second or two rather than a quick push? I’ve never had a problem with mine.
Vstar Vstar see the second video where i hold the button down. I think we found the problem - stay tuned
+Vstar Vstar yes there is a second video showing a longer hold on the button. Although shutdown mode is instant when you press the button- no need to hold it in at all.
Mud Brats TV I just saw it today....hope it works out for you!
My will not start and you can not depress the brake pedal or stiff it out of park.
Key fob was replaced with new battery

it wasnt the button it was the complete shifter needed to be replaced on this one.
Whats the connection of shifter? The problem is main switch Start press buttom. I have already change it and its work no issue.
Guess you're in Canada? EX-L? RTL-E here in US.
+SCTundra11 you guessed right. Not sure why Honda does that - its confusing

I just tried that and mine does not click... Odd, wonder if its an ABS premature click or something like that.
SCTundra11 yep... i just noticed it the other day. Is it something do do with the ABS, pretty loud click
Just happened with my 2017 please advise as to the exact fix I need to ask for?

@@mudbrats good to hear. I prefer keys over keyless too and I agree the problem is a pain in the ass, but not a dealbreaker for me

C is for Chris no i am not... the shifter was replaced as faulty. it was defective on delivery. It was eventually fixed.

It's now Nov-218, did Honda fix this?
Ron Dail yes - honda had to replace the shifter assembly. Worked perfect after the fix.
Honda just mailed us a recall notice for that same situation. Contact them they will cover it.
good to know. I have a Ram EcoDiesel now

Never had a problem with mine. Going on 15 months...

So what was the problen
They havent got the new part in, but the shifter is faulty on this. Stay tuned I will let you know when it is fixed - tik tok
