    Thanks a lot!!! For the video!!
    Not only saved me $900 (quoted on dealer) but also save me a week without a car = no work!
    I had previously bought a small tool kit from Amazon to remove car parts and was helpful. I used contact cleaner instead of the DW40 and that did it for me!

    Those metal pins aren't actually the culprit FYI.
    Pull out the little motherboard and you will see 2 little copper circle "pads" use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean that surface as well as the little rubber pad that has 2 more copper pads.
    How it works is once the push to start button is pressed the contact points on the rubber pad touch the contact pads on the motherboard completing the circuit. This then tells the cars computer to turn on or off based on its current status.

    My 2016 Honda HR-V had this problem --the dealer initially would not replace the switch -but I found dealer who would. The problem is that this problem does not show in the scope as a problem --so they say they will not replace it. Pretty bad customer service for Honda overall.

    I had a similar problem with a 2015 Honda Civic. Push start engine button dash lit up, single click sound and the engine wouldn't start. I checked fuses and relays and they were in good working condition. The mechanic recommended switching out the battery and alternator. It worked for a couple weeks and I got back to square one. I cleaned the push engine button and worked for a couple days then same issue. I checked the brake switch underneath the dash and noticed the push pin was not working correctly. Autozone part only $12.99 Duralast Stoplight Switch SW9720. So far no issues. My last resort is the starter. Thanks for uploading the video.

      I just had the same problem, it was the brake light switch.
      I took the switch apart and on the inside there were 4 pins. One of the pins was bent further up than the other 3, so all I had to do was bend it back to try and match how the other pins were bent. After that all was good and the car would start like normal. Still, gonna buy a replacement piece.

Swapped batteries in the key fob twice. Unfortunately, this did not work for me. I have a 2014 Honda Civic and the push button is not the same. I was still able to disassemble and clean the contacts, not only once but a second time a week later. FYI: I used contact cleaner and not WD40, I also used a small eraser to remove excess oxidation off the contacts. The reason I did it the second time was because the body was just a little loose and I was able to make it a tighter fit by adding a couple small pieces of electrical tape. I thought this would help keep the contacts make a better connection. Still did not resolve the issue. My brake light switch seems to be working properly as my brake lights always work. I think I may need to buy a new push start button. I would add a photo of my push start if I knew how.

    • @theintruder8
      @theintruder8 2 роки тому

      So I replaced the push start button, and it still has the same symptoms. I also replaced the brake switch and still no improvement. Any thoughts on what else might be the problem? Starter, motherboard, send/receive unit?

    • @henrihunter8030
      @henrihunter8030 Рік тому +1

      Inside the switch, 4 tiny metalic spring loaded pins that make the contact when pushed, are so flimsy and weak the contact becomes intermittent. As well, the metalic contact lines get worn and lose contact line surface over time which adds to the intermittent contact.
      Eventually you push 20 or 30 times hoping for ignition but contacts are gone . New switch only option. Shame on honda. A 25 cent pin, stranding a modern vehicle. Switch costs around $230

    On my 2013 Accord the engine does not always start. When it does not start I continue to hold the brake pedal down then push and HOLD the START/STOP button and it will start. This indicates that there is a possible problem with either the push button switch or the brake switch.

    Simple fix for this problem is to press the button completely and spray a plastic safe electrical cleaning aerosol into the bottom edges.
    Let the electrical cleaner set until it's completely dry.
    Your switch will work as if it were brand new again.

    On my 2015 Accord Ex, the dashboard lights and the headlights come on but there is no cranking to start the engine. My car has s 2.4 Liter 4-cylinder engine with Manual Transmission. The battery seems fine (14.46 Volts) when the engine is running and 10.48 volts when the engine is off. If your car is under warranty, do not do this even if it works. Honda dealers will know that you took it apart and they will make excuses like "we found water" so it won't be covered under warranty.

    I didn’t have anything to pry it open, although was scared to break its clips.
    Through frustration at the difficulties I depressed the button and sprayed WD40 into its housing, hoping it would seep in and down through the mechanism and onto any contacts. I figured that the diagonal angle of the button situated in the dash would help the liquid trickle down.
    IT WORKED! So pleased. Fingers and everything crossed that it continues!!!
