Thank you for the reaction Danny. So honest and heartfelt as always. That is why I know you would appreciate Marillion. They are 100% honest and heartfelt in every song and performance. On vocal Steve Hogarth replays the emotions in his heart and mind to you un-filtered, and makes you feel as though it's for you personally. Everyone in the audience can feel the connection. Marillion Weekends are two to three day concert series like double and triple-header baseball games. They play a different set each night. They do it at a number of locations around the world every two years or so, with the one in Port Zélande in the Netherlands being the biggest.

@@DannyLeeOGT I've got them on a couple of travel playlists, and I know Elizabeth has liked what she heard (I think Kirk has too). It's just a matter of time. "Fatih" ua-cam.com/video/WkmOEcctUiU/v-deo.html is what I have.

They're a little older than Tool. Ian the drummer is 70, the singer is 67, the rest are in their early 60's. The vid is 4 years old though.
I was at this years convention in Leicester, where this was recorded. They still rock

I was at this weekend. They tend to be every couple of years. I didn't get back to see them this year. They did more than ever this time. Leicester is the English one, they also did Germany, Italy and more across Europe. They did Montreal this time but have done Santiago in the past. The weekend is Friday to Sunday. Each night they do a full show covering an album or a theme with an encore. The other bands listed are guest warm up acts. They hardly miss a beat over the 6 or so hours during the weekend but on the odd occasion they do, it is taken in the best spirit by the fans who sell out these events. The biggest event they have played in recent years was the Royal Albert Hall in London which sold out in seconds. That is a great live album, called "All one tonight"

I have that "All One Tonight" blu-ray. It's magical! I really like how they include so much "behind the scenes" material too. I was at Montréal 2022 and it was the best concert experience!

The Marillion Weekends are biannual conventions where the band perform either 2 or 3 (depending on the location) separate sets on consecutive nights, Friday to Sunday. This can mean that they play 50 - 60 songs over the course of the weekend, with fans attending from around 50 different countries. The flagship one is in Port Zealand, where the band take over the Centre Parcs complex, however the best one is Leicester, cos of the fan participation 😊.
The nearest to you would be Montreal in 2025

One aspect of the Marillion Weekends is that having the band perform on consecutive nights at one venue allows the sound crew to really perfect sound of the band. It helps that the venues are typically smallish, old theatres that seat maybe 2,000-3,000 people, even when the main floor is sold as "festival seating" - i.e. standing only. It must be easier to get the sound right in a small venue than in a large arena which typically has concrete floors, plastic seats, and lots of metal railings.
Similarly, the lighting crew can really shine when they don't have to plan to assemble-disasseble the lightiing equipment every night. The light shows are truly amazing and not what you'd expect for something so much smaller and an arena or stadium show.
Marillion is fond of this sort of theme, and have re-visited if from time to time. After all, honest artists should base their creations on what they know, or have experienced, in their personal lives. "Real Tears for Sale", "The Leavers",and "Somewhere Else" are three other songs which speak to the effects of being a prominent musical artist, and they are all excellent tunes.

We are so lucky to have such dedicated sound and lighting crews who go above and beyond to make each Marillion Weekend a memorable experience. They truly know how to create the perfect atmosphere for the band and the fans.

    Nice reaction 👍🏻
Check out Somewhere Else (live !).
    It's also very emotional.
    Some of the lyrics:
Woke up in a spaceship of shimmer
    Ing gold
    Tutenkhamen sleeping
    Should'a left him alone
    Floating round in Orion
    Arrow pointing to heaven
    Between all the planets
    Out in the cold
    Everyone I love
    Everyone I love
Everyone I love lives somewhere else
And I have time to look at myself
It came about because Steve Hogarth and his wife after a long-term relationship parted company last year while we were writing the album. So he spent Christmas 2006 living round at Mark Kelly's, and Mark had gone away with his family. Christmas Eve, Steve was all alone and he was thinking of his kids and stuff and he started writing Somewhere Else. He happened to be in one of the bedrooms and it had all this kind of foily stuff and a very kind of spacey décor. The bit about being in a space ship is about being there in a place that you don’t necessarily recognize and all of it goes with your life being turned upside down."

Yes, they are both named "Steve", and they both play guitar, so it is easy to get the guys mixed up. In the debate over who has been the best lead man for Marillion, it is often overlooked that Hogarth is not only a lead singer, but also an instrumentalist, often playing electric guitar or keyboards, and on at least one live album, what amounts to an elaborate vibraphone. His instumental contributins are sometimes prominent in the mix, sometimes buried in it. Overall, Marillion is symphonic prog, and the sounds added by Hogarth when he is playing an instrument are important to the sound of the band.
