    Just what size was the drill that Ralph used to check the adjustment of the needle and seat?

      No but I thought about doing it for another model but this was a lot of work to do just one model and I don't know if I wanted to take it on especially for free

    I have been wondering how many videos Ralph made and why he made them? Did he work for RR? When were these made? 1980?

      Years ago Ralph made videos for the roll's Royce club but they paid for all of these videos. I believe there were 4. They are old and out dated. I made the rest of these in my car condo an I have nothing to do with the rolls Royce club in fact they wanted nothing to do with it because of liability.

      Is Ralph did originally work for Rolls Royce. All these videos are made by Steve Spencer, me. They are all new within the last few years. As I've gotten older I wanted to produce a product that would be around forever that had my name on it that's why I did it. it was a lot of work Ralph stopped by occasionally and gave me advice and loved being in the videos. I do have a bunch of more video on my laptop finishing up the interior of the car and some of the items that I did not cover but it's so much work I just have not got around to Organize and publishing then.

      Different carburettor, your Silver Shadow 11 has SU H1 F7 carbs. One or both of your float needles are not shutting off when the float bowl fills (could be dirt stopping the float needle from closing or a worn needle or you may have a punctured float that is not rising to shut the needle. In your carbs the float bowls are not accessible without removing the carbs completely as a pair. There's a centre nut holding the plinth down to the inlet manifold, you need to undo that and lift the carbs off to get at the float bowls underneath. Take photos and mark any wires and connections with different colour tape as you separate the connections and pipes before removing the carbs, otherwise you will have a nightmare reconnecting everything in the right place afterwards. No harm to replace the two small fuel filters at the end of the fuel line where they enter each carb and the main fuel filter under the floor while you're at it.

    They are not "dashpots"
    They are suction chambers.
    The viscosity of transmission fluid is inadequate for the function of the carburetor.
    This guy is a mug.
    The oil in the piston damper is the equivalent of an accelerator pump.
    If you put an oil of a lesser viscosity into the damper then what happens is a weakened/leaner mixture occurring under acceleration -which is the antithesis of what the engine needs.
    By advocating such fluids for such applications I will go out on limb and say that this guy has only half a clue about what he is on about.

    • @GoldsboroughHall

      What fluid would you recommend for a Silver Cloud V8?

    • @steveshouseofspeed3725
      @steveshouseofspeed3725  2 роки тому

      This guy is wrong I don't know what hes saying but use ATF transmission fluid for multiple reasons I've driven my cloud to 80000 miles and it works perfectly

      Also to have a clue I think me and Ralph would be considered 2 experts on rolls Royce silver clouds around the world.I don't know who this guy thin

    • @nkelly.9
      @nkelly.9 2 роки тому

      @@GoldsboroughHall Same fluid as the manufacturers recommend.
      They had SAE 30 weight oils in the day.
      Use a common 20W50 oil like we have today.
      If you understand the principles of the operation of SU carburettors you would not advocate using thin oils in the piston dampers.
      It works beautifully, more viscous when cold it gives mixture enrichment when cold, then, when the engine - and carburettor - warm up, that same oil thins out a little, which is just what the engine wants.
      I respect the engineers and testers and producers of these products who had to guarantee their products and their recommendations more than suburban and shade-tree mechanics with their , limited, non scientifically tested anecdotal "evidence".
      Use your own life experience to evaluate the evidence before you, and the claims of any self professed "expert".

      @@GoldsboroughHall Furthermore, Transmission fluid was around and available at the time these cars were manufactured and sold.
      Rolls Royce, in conjunction with the manufacturers of the S.U. carburettors, never recommended the use of ATF.
      You have to ask yourself, who to defer to; the manufacturers, or some suburban mechanics?
