I'm not a massive motorbike fan, but I used to live very nearby to Shakey and used to often see him driving his various exotic cars and bikes around, avidly following his career purely due to him being a local hero! Thoroughly enjoyed both parts of this chat/tour and great to hear Shane talking so positively about what must have been a very dark period in his life and career following that accident. Thanks as always Jonny for taking the time, care and attention to produce a truly wonderful video... yet again!
You need to run a parallel channel just for bikes.. you almost have me as a subscriber even as an owner of 4 mini's.. real mini's.. im much more bikes than cars at 64 a second childhood arrising.. great interview with Shane.. great!
Lol I live really close to Paul B. So I kind of share that feeling as you did with seeing Shakey out and about enjoying various exotic machinery. Also went to school with Mark Aston of AST. It's a small small world.
Well done on interviewing shakey. The guy is a legend and i was sad when he stopped racing. His bsb titles were amazing but il always remember him on the unrideable rs cube moto gp bike👍
A wonderful 2nd part to the Idol Chat, thoroughly enjoyed all Shane had to say in these episodes and to you as well Jonny for always being fully absorbed in the chat 😊 Looking in the comments it's good to see a biker community who tune into the channel. 15 out of 10 for everyone 🙌
@@Norton1531 when I was 16 I had sold my motocross cr125 to pay for my ar50 and the 17 yr old lad across the road bought a new ‘91 RGV250. The noise and smell and paint scheme of that bike is forever etched in my memory.
not a huge bike fan, i had a small collection of mainly classic and vintage bikes lincluding a 77 Guzzi mk1 le mans and a 39 Matchless Model X, but i have always wanted an early 80s CB1100R . But as Clint Eastwood once said " A man`s gotta know his limitations" and i have too much respect for superbikes to ever sling a leg over one, so huge respect for Shakeys abilities and bravery. Another great video from Jonny, makes interviews so natural.
What a fantastic way to spend an hour watching both parts of the video. Jonny I think you've nailed the format so well - the casual chat between two people who just love what they do and enjoy talking about their passions.
Superb interview Johnny ....Shakey is such a nice guy .. Understand his accident as 6 months into recovery from a serious motorcycle accident myself ... it's a slow and painful path and mentally difficult. Had the pleasure of seeing him race too and on the "riders cicuits" like Oulton Park and Brands he just disappeared... so talented ..
I like my modern bikes, but imho the 1997 996 SPS is still my fav bike of all time. I miss my bike. One day im sure, i'll get another. Just need a garage. Great chat as always JS
Total respect Jonny. You didn’t pretend to be a bike head and clearly Shane respected that. Very interesting chat that was all the better for not just being about bikes. That Desmosedici is gorgeous. I remember seeing it for the first time maybe 2004/5 in MCN and staring in wonder at the £40k price tag. I think you could get a new Fireblade for about £7k. They both sound pretty good value now.
The first vid made me buy Shane's book, I read it today. It's a cracking read. I'll never get over the phrase "Self Catheter" though... Thanks Shane and thanks Jonny for letting me know.
He's no mug and wouldn't show that interest unless he saw real raw talent. But then, anyone that has seen you race over the last few years must have an idea of that. All the best for the future dude 👍
YES JONNY! Props for this Idol Chat with Shakey. I hope it's as popular with non-riders / bike-curious subscribers as it's been with your two wheeled viewers. I'd love more bike related videos from you since you approach with such genuine enthusiasm because it's a vehicle! Nice work.
Love Shakey, all time hero, been a big follower of his since his FastBikes videos days, hilarious antics! Still got the video tapes in the loft! And the only bloke to do proper stunts after a race! 😎👌
I watched some of shakeys antics on fastbikes bloody brilliant, never realised he was so articulate. Went to snetterton to a meeting he won back to back races in the pissing rain wiped the floor with everyone, I never realised you could go that fast in the wet . Great video great ambassador for motorcycle racing 👌

Shakey is such a genuine and interesting guy; and so generous with his time. He clearly loves talking about anything with an engine as he said. The man's a god.
29:28 Sorry guys but Desmosedici does not mean 16 valve, that would be Sedicivalvole.. Desmo is short for Desmodromic. This means the type of valve actuation Ducati is famous for. i.e. actuation by two cam profiles - one for opening & one for closing, as a pose to normal valve trains that use springs for closing.
Loved the RGV 250, had one myself back in the mid 90´s "stepping down" after a huge gixer 750 crash - and what a fantastic machine it was!! Shakey is totally correct re nostalgia, I'm really _really_ hankering after another 80's / 90's stroker, but the trouble is my first proper "big bike" was an '86 500LC and I really _really_ want one of them too but the price of all the these bikes is now becoming almost unreachable for mere mortals 😢😢😢😢
Love your work Shakey, the mad antics you and and the Fast Bikes crew got up to in the 90's was mind blowing. pulling wheelies sitting on tank of a 916, feet over the mirrors...
I see in the comments "I'm not a massive motorbike fan/bike guy but....." , so i'm not a car guy but....this is the best episodes ever....hahaha cheers 4 sharing sir.
Shane at Fast Bikes is what I'll always remember an absolutely incredible era which will never be repeated you owe it to yourself to check out Colin Schiller's videos.
The early fast bike days and those videos were my inspiration when I was young and starting out on 2 wheels. Reckless knee down, big wheelies, general hooning around..those boys were a bad influence on me and we are a dying breed now.
Thank you Shane and Jonny, just spent the best Sunday evening in a long time. Such a in depth, honest and informative chat. Was great to listen to you guys, so relaxed about everything, felt like we were part of the Q and A. Was so nice to hear Shane talking about how he has coped since the accident, and how strong and positive he is going forward. Hope all he wishes for as he goes forward, comes to fruition. Quality chat from a top interviewer Jonny.
I've really enjoyed this interview with Shakey Byrne and too involve him in other episodes . Who ever came up with this idea was a genius. So well done guys. I watched you both firstly on the Ariel Atom episode which made look to see if there was any more with you both and I wasn't disappointed. I like Shakey as he comes across as being grounded and down to earth and a genuinely nice guy. Loved watching him in BSB and saw him win at Brands. Look forward to seeing more of you both on.... Excellent part 2 Jonny, Shakey is clearly a proper dyed in the wool petrol head, which is so good to see in this day and age, so erudite and such a nice bloke. 👍 It's interesting I told my careers officer at school at 16, I wanted to be a racing driver and I got exactly the same response, all I got was you'd be better working at McDonalds, it seems careers officers at school, don't want to hear ambition, because they have never had any.... whats that saying those who can do, do.. those that can't teach.

Great pair of videos here, thanks🍻
I'm Older , Barry Sheene was my hero, watched him battling with Giacomo Agostini , just my time when I was Moto mad, we all had our times !
Not a bike fan but this was an awesome insight. Keep up the great work!
Bikes and cars are a great combo. I'm also a cyclist/car enthusiast.
I was hoping shakey was going to talk about the fastbikes videos and his wheely antics through Europe I will just have to dust off the old vhs tapes
Brilliant interview Jonny! 🏁👏👏
