Ben's feedback about Mladin's talent level is really telling. A lot of people say he just worked harder but didn't quite have the talent of the top guys. I think Mladin's "talent" was more subtle. not the kind of guy who could show up hungover like Gobert and still slay people. his mental strength was definitely a talent. His data guy said Mladin's feedback was phenomenal and he would feel things on the bike before they could even see it in the data. his comments on Kayla are really cool too. I'm sure she knows that Nicky Hayden won his first AMA pro race at age 16 and beat guys like Duhamel and Chandler (at willow springs) and she holds herself to the same standards. On the other end of the spectrum, I remember seeing an old AMA race on youtube . I think it was supersport and Ben Spies was qualified around 20th place. It goes to show that someone can "struggle", be frustrated, not set the world afire in their rookie year and still be a legend :)
I just came across this video, and just thought I’d like to share that I actually have one of Ben’s paddock scooters from when he raced in South Africa around 2009. I use it to get to campus everyday😂
I was at Laguna one year. I saw Ben talking to Troy Corser. Of course I wanted to greet them both, but I was especially happy to see Ben. When I did greet them, Ben actually took a step back because, possible he felt Troy was a bigger "star". I forgot what I said, but Troy actually had a chuckle because he also understood Ben was now a "star" figure.
First time checking out you guys stuff and am digging it. Been watching Spies since he was 16. Go Elbows. That dude is such a talent and we really have missed him racing. Dang I wish he could have gone back to WSBK. Good luck on future endeavors and good on ya for helping more youngsters coming into the sport.
I remember him coming up on the zero gravity 600. I was close to wrapping up racing then. Houseworth was a great guy. Hung out with donald jacks and met him. Ben was one in a million. Could go out on a new track and set fastest laps. Unreal talent
Man I love this dude. His personally was so dry but he was so good. It was so good to watch him race and he lives up to the hype. He went from a Gixxer to WSBK on an R1 and won his rookie year, like what?!? And the competition was insane back then. IMO he was hurt in GPs by the same things that affected Vale, new electronics, new tires….and of course his injuries. We miss you Elbows.
Watching this in the UK - it was great having Ben racing over here back in the day, him amd Nicky have so many fans over this side of the pond, Ben Bostrom too.
One of the best podcasts that digs deep into the person they are interviewing. Racing always looks like glitz and glamour from the outside, but after listening to some of the interviews you hear its harder than most think. Keep up the great work!
4:00 am work pod, perfect. Ben’s one of the only people who’s responded to my dms and enjoyed the conversations as well. Good man and local legend and NHMS
Listened on Spotify over the weekend but had to come back here to comment. Great pod! Ben is a legend and it's fantastic that he sat down for such a complete interview and discussion. It was great that you got into the differences between the superbikes of the 2000's compared to the current machines. A huge thank you to everyone involved!!!
Love the podcast. one of the best if not thee best ones for getting BTS info about racing. You guys should try and pull John hopkins especially with his recent stint with American racing and then leaving.
Ive seen bunch of people baggin on Kayla saying her results havent been great or that she has lost the desire to win. I dont think people understand the MASSIVE skill gap between jr cup/Twins cup rookies and the vets that are riding supersports. Kayle is a solid top 10 finisher as a rookie, that shows that she more than deserves to be there. once she gets comfortable on the bike, these boys are going to be in trouble.
im impressed by his training regimen. dude trained like Tom Brady... but its a shame that no one trains like that now. or am I wrong, do current riders train like this?
just started watching this. if you guys don't ask who it was that Ben's crew chief physically lifted off a bike and said "do not do this right now!", I"m gonna be pissed ;) (gypsy tales 2:27:40)
Ben still fails to tell it all....ask him about the wood plank and the dirt bike in the house on Christmas Day....!!!! grrrrr his sister so spoiled him
too many GP riders getting these odd chronic illnesses? they soaking your helmets in VP or WTF? Casey, Ben, now Rins and Marini? WTF? and every time I dunno about Be but with casey rins and luca came out of no where? and its always some weird fatigue sleep shyt, I think rins and luca raced anyways, both trying to push thru it but man what a drag, hard enough with all crash shyt then to have that, I really felt for casey, he was destined to be the king of motoGP and you know he was, he rode that POS duck like nobodies business and really pissed a lot of people off doing so, they initially didn't want the duicati winning but after what casey did they tapped that one to sell bikes, for a fee of course but nothing new, that's racing, politics and sell sell sell, think about it, a manufacturer doesn't pullout a year after it wins the title, they know whats going on they all do.. but they want their piece of the pie so they stay in, suzy has such loyalty they could pullout of all racing and still sell the most bikes for the next 3 decades, but that illness shyt, man I dunno bout all that, I am leary, and I don't like it . .
ive never heard been speak no more than 10 minutes at one given time, you got 3 hours out of him... Legends..

Not sure we have saw the same thing. She has been extremely fast since she has stepped up to the super sport bike. 🏍️
Loving this, had to have an intermission break. You guys are great 👍
We did too! 😅

We seem to only scratched the surface.
Bros basically made history with this 🤔
didn't hurt a bunch to have Mladin to follow around a few laps as well....
