i think you captured the essence of MJ very well. when i watched him play live it always looked like he saw everything in slow motion and effortlessly made the right adjustment every time. imo the greatest team sport athlete who's ever lived. he won DPOY in 1988 btw - while averaging 35 ppg.

And keep in mind, when Jordan played, the NBA still had a half court game. So centers could actually stand under the basket to block your shot. And defensive players could hand check you.
I watched Jordan growing up, I was playing on the court with him on my mind, he was different, no one else really compared with him, that's my personal opinion. He was my everything growing up loving basketball.
Jordan wasn’t selfish. He played the point for a stretch of games and got 10 triple doubles in 11 games. When Phil Jackson became the coach and implementation the triangle offense, he asked Scottie to play the point forward and Jordan to finish the plays with his scoring. MJ sacrificed his all around numbers to play in his coaches system. History has spun it as him being a ball hog though. When in reality, the triangle offense is based 100 percent on screens and ball movement. By the way. Jordan taught Scottie to play defense

Saw that man win two championships live, when I lived in Chicago. He was such an inspirational player. Scored 44 pts in a finals game with a stomach flu. The guy was from another planet, on both ends of the court. Worked as an account exec with the radio station that carried the games in Spanish. I was lucky enough to see him live dozens of times and will never, ever forget it.
I only saw him play live twice. But it was AWESOME. One game was Magic's return at the great western forum. Jordan and Pippen put on an impromptu, casual slam dunk competition for the crowd during warm ups. This was 96. It was beautiful to see this.

One of the things that always use to amaze me was how he was able to anticipate the moves of the defenders and react to them in real time. That's actually why he switched hands in mid-air on that famour lay-up against the Lakers in the Finals. He saw Perkins on the right side of the rim making a move as if he was going to reach up to challenge the shot. So that's why jordan switched hands and laid the ball up on the other side of the rim. He was simply amazing to watch. And he did breath-taking plays every single night he played. If someone made a highlight reel of all of Jordan's amazing plays, it would literally be hours and hours long!

I worked at a mental health state facility back in the 90's and my coworker and I got all of our residents to be Bulls fans so we could put the games on the schedule for the residents! We would bring in popcorn and sodas for everyone and thats how we were able to watch all of the games!! such good times! Love Michael Jordan!

People were legit scared of Jordan. There is a good Kobe interview where he talked about that. Jordan did not just beat people on the court he took up rent free space in other peoples minds. He did get a good amount of assists, obviously nothing like Magic who was a point guard. But look at the league at the time and his stats are more than comparable to other 2s and 3s of that era for assists. He was a freaking legit assassin though. @11:17 is my favorite part of this Vid when you talked about Jordan's fundamentally sound handles were good enough to get by his opponents because of his huge hands he palmed the ball a lot. Jordan skill level was technically & fundamentally sound & he had counter moves on top of counter moves to any defense he went against. A beautiful game to watch but the pure drive to get better, the fearlessness of no opponent, over abundance of athletic ability & the KILLER INSTINCT was what made him have no weaknesses in his game. He was always thinking the game 2 to 3 plays ahead of everybody else on the floor. Its what all the greats in the game were able to do in their careers.
A lot of players have good highlight reels. What a lot of kids don’t understand is that is what Mike looked like every single night. Pull up a whole game or whole game highlights and watch. And yes he was a scoring machine but he was also the best defender among guards of his era.
He didn't put the highlight tape together 😁. Michael played point for part of one season averaged 32 points 8 rebounds 8 assists and shot 53% from the floor. He was a great all-around player including the defense his main role was scoring obviously. He did have more athleticism than everyone but he also worked as hard or harder than anyone. He was truly amazing to watch play. My parents were not big sports fans. Though when mike was playing the game was on. He was electrifying to watch. Poetry in motion. Grace under pressure and watching these highlights. This is exactly why we had kobe bryant and also LeBron James. Mike inspired so many kids to play.
I think one of the issues with not falling in front of MJ was that they knew he was faster. If you know someone's faster, you instinctively tend to try and move before he does, to anticipate that. That leads to easier stumbling.

I was at his first game back from retirement. I'm a big Pacers fan and actually had a hard time with this game. I love my Pacers and MJ is my favorite player right before Larry Bird. So I was very conflicted in this game. It made it even better knowing that my team beat the Bulls in his return. Can't say too much for the rest of the season. MJ ended up winning 3 more championships so that was fun. You should watch the video someone made with the song "I believe I could fly" and MJ's highlights. It's really sweet.
Phil Jackson used to call it "unleashing the dobermans"...he would let Jordan and Pippen loose, they'd jump into full court pressure and those two guys would be flying around the court playing pressure defense, picking off passes left and right. It would almost always end in a 10-15 point run. That team was so much fun to watch as a kid and MJ was larger than life
Jordan came out for the fans. I remember seeing him in the old Chicago stadium against the Sonics and Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton. It was one of Jordan’s flu games. He played for the fans. Dude was a beast!!

I grew up in NC and a big Carolina Tarheel fan so, I starting watching him there and then on thru all his Bulls days- loving every minute of it all. I used to lovvvve watching him and Scottie Pippen tag up together. Scottie was my fav Bull for sure outside of Mike just being the “KING”. His high school and ours were only an hour away from each other and played each other just 0-2 times per basketball season but, I never went to any myself.

Great reaction video brother. I’m 44 yrs old. Graduated high school in 1996, so you can do the math. I was 6 yrs old when MJ entered the league but I had family members that loved to watch basketball. So even at 6 yrs old I still remember MJ and his crazy athleticism. I used to think “wow can he jump high”. As he matured into the league, I grewup watching him. Always was fixated to watch him play. These highlights really doesn’t do him justice. You have to watch the full games to really understand his true greatness and mentality. He NEVER F@CKIN QUIT!!! Both ends of the floor. No joke. He could do an unbelievable move and leave people with their jaws on the floor and he wouldn’t be celebrating. He’d hustle his ass back on defense or pick his man up full court. MJ was all bizness!! Players like Iverson, Irving, Curry and many others were phenomenal ball handlers when they were on the ground. Michael was also a great ball handler when dribbling, but not only could he break ankles and fake his opponents out on the ground he could fake them out in mid air, like an artist with no boundaries. Plus killer D and can shoot from anywhere. No disrespect to LeBron, but not even close.
Thing about MJ, that guy was so much more than a scorer. His defense was just as pretty as his offense and he was one of the best of his era. They really didn't show to much of his fade away but it was almost unstoppable. He did all that scoring at a time when they played a violent defense. People would get tackled or elbowed going to the hoop back then. That said, my favorite thing he would do is hang out at the half court line when his team was at the line. I grew up in Chicago. I watched every game he played with the Bulls. I don't think I'll ever forget the day he un-retired after his father was murdered. The local news came on like a minute early and the anchors were all going nuts and the sports guy was on. That was odd since usually they are last. All he said was "I'm back." My dad and I knew right away it was MJ. We jumped around like we won the lottery. Truly the greatest I've ever seen play the game. I don't know how to explain it. He had an aura around him. You could sense the competition felt it. He had them beat before jump ball many days.
Did you ever go to a wizards game when he played for them? I was about 8 years old and loved basketball. He told me we are going to see the greatest player that’s ever lived. I remember seeing him play but definitely noticing that he was at the end of his career. I just remember being happy I got to see the guy from space jam play live 😂
I love that at the start that Van didn't believe it, and then the realization slowly kicks in with disbelief during the middle of the video, to then him just being like "Nah, I'm out." in defeat lol. People say that MJ was selfish when he played, and while it could be true, he just wasn't. Look at what he had to do with the Bulls, turn it from a shit team into one of the best teams in the NBA and then he turned it into one of the best of all-time. 4.3 40, and 48 inch vertical on a 6'6" shooting guard... he was fast, could jump out of the gym, defended like a demon, could shoot from almost anywhere (3pt not as good), you can't stop that. My favorite player at the time was John Starks, wore his jersey all the time....and you can see him just getting MURDERED in this video a bunch. I love Jordan, but he did my man DIRTY all the time, to the point where Starks dunked over someone, and Jordan tried to get in there to contest it, and they made a poster for Starks like he dunked over Jordan. I had it on my wall, they called it "The Dunk", but it wasnt even on Jordan, it's pretty funny looking back now on how he almost got him ONE time...and it's named that. I remember watching the 96,97,98 championships when I was little (6 to 8 years old) I don't know if anyone that good is ever going to play again, even as a kid you could see how much better he was than everyone else. Really like he was playing chess while everyone else was stuck learning checkers
Jordan grew to realize that he couldn't do it alone, although up until around 88 or so, he didn't really have anyone to pass to. He was more likely to score tripleteamed that most of the pre-Pippen Bulls were if they're wide open.
One of the biggest things that separated MJ from the rest was his quick feet. He could change direction (right or left) on a dime and then put that burst of speed on and the guy guarding him is left as a spectator watching him go in for the dunk. I've lived through the careers of both Jordan and Lebron and there is no doubt in my mind that Jordan is the GOAT by far.
Jordan wasn’t selfish. He played the point for a stretch of games and got 10 triple doubles in 11 games. When Phil Jackson became the coach and implementation the triangle offense, he asked Scottie to play the point forward and Jordan to finish the plays with his scoring. MJ sacrificed his all around numbers to play in his coaches system. History has spun it as him being a ball hog though. When in reality, the triangle offense is based 100 percent on screens and ball movement. By the way. Jordan taught Scottie to play defense

Saw that man win two championships live, when I lived in Chicago. He was such an inspirational player. Scored 44 pts in a finals game with a stomach flu. The guy was from another planet, on both ends of the court. Worked as an account exec with the radio station that carried the games in Spanish. I was lucky enough to see him live dozens of times and will never, ever forget it.

One of the things that always use to amaze me was how he was able to anticipate the moves of the defenders and react to them in real time. That's actually why he switched hands in mid-air on that famour lay-up against the Lakers in the Finals. He saw Perkins on the right side of the rim making a move as if he was going to reach up to challenge the shot. So that's why jordan switched hands and laid the ball up on the other side of the rim. He was simply amazing to watch. And he did breath-taking plays every single night he played. If someone made a highlight reel of all of Jordan's amazing plays, it would literally be hours and hours long!

I worked at a mental health state facility back in the 90's and my coworker and I got all of our residents to be Bulls fans so we could put the games on the schedule for the residents! We would bring in popcorn and sodas for everyone and thats how we were able to watch all of the games!! such good times! Love Michael Jordan!

People were legit scared of Jordan. There is a good Kobe interview where he talked about that. Jordan did not just beat people on the court he took up rent free space in other peoples minds. He did get a good amount of assists, obviously nothing like Magic who was a point guard. But look at the league at the time and his stats are more than comparable to other 2s and 3s of that era for assists. He was a freaking legit assassin though. @11:17 is my favorite part of this Vid when you talked about Jordan's fundamentally sound handles were good enough to get by his opponents because of his huge hands he palmed the ball a lot. Jordan skill level was technically & fundamentally sound & he had counter moves on top of counter moves to any defense he went against. A beautiful game to watch but the pure drive to get better, the fearlessness of no opponent, over abundance of athletic ability & the KILLER INSTINCT was what made him have no weaknesses in his game. He was always thinking the game 2 to 3 plays ahead of everybody else on the floor. Its what all the greats in the game were able to do in their careers.
A lot of players have good highlight reels. What a lot of kids don’t understand is that is what Mike looked like every single night. Pull up a whole game or whole game highlights and watch.
And yes he was a scoring machine but he was also the best defender among guards of his era.
He didn't put the highlight tape together 😁. Michael played point for part of one season averaged 32 points 8 rebounds 8 assists and shot 53% from the floor. He was a great all-around player including the defense his main role was scoring obviously. He did have more athleticism than everyone but he also worked as hard or harder than anyone. I think one of the issues with not falling in front of MJ was that they knew he was faster. If you know someone's faster, you instinctively tend to try and move before he does, to anticipate that. That leads to easier stumbling.
pausing to say this at just before 5 min in.... if you watched Jordan you expected him to score everytime the ball touched his hands. He was that dominant....I'm 40 I watched this dude as a kid and he was incredible!

I was at his first game back from retirement. I'm a big Pacers fan and actually had a hard time with this game. I love my Pacers and MJ is my favorite player right before Larry Bird. So I was very conflicted in this game. It made it even better knowing that my team beat the Bulls in his return. Can't say too much for the rest of the season. MJ ended up winning 3 more championships so that was fun. You should watch the video someone made with the song "I believe I could fly" and MJ's highlights. It's really sweet.
Phil Jackson used to call it "unleashing the dobermans"...he would let Jordan and Pippen loose, they'd jump into full court pressure and those two guys would be flying around the court playing pressure defense, picking off passes left and right. It would almost always end in a 10-15 point run. That team was so much fun to watch as a kid and MJ was larger than life
Jordan came out for the fans. I remember seeing him in the old Chicago stadium against the Sonics and Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton. It was one of Jordan’s flu games. He played for the fans. Dude was a beast!!
I DON'T think people TRULY understand the impact that MJ has, not JUST in Basketball, but on the world as a WHOLE. I saw Mike play with my OWN TWO EYES, COURTSIDE, when he played for the WIZARDS! Not even the BULLS and it was STILLLLL the most exciting thing that I have seen, even until this day, no lie! When you hear people talk about his aura, PLEASE believe it! Jordan’s defense was elite. He was 9 times 1st team league defense selection. He could guard anyone he wanted. He was just obviously focused on getting the ball in the hole. And you’re right, he wasn’t worried about a big man or anything else. In fact it always seemed like he got more excited the more obstacles in his way. And before that last game winning shot for ring number 6 he also made the steal at the other end to set it up.

I grew up in NC and a big Carolina Tarheel fan so, I starting watching him there and then on thru all his Bulls days- loving every minute of it all. I used to lovvvve watching him and Scottie Pippen tag up together. Scottie was my fav Bull for sure outside of Mike just being the “KING”. His high school and ours were only an hour away from each other and played each other just 0-2 times per basketball season but, I never went to any myself.

Great reaction video brother. I’m 44 yrs old. Graduated high school in 1996, so you can do the math. I was 6 yrs old when MJ entered the league but I had family members that loved to watch basketball. So even at 6 yrs old I still remember MJ and his crazy athleticism. I used to think “wow can he jump high”. As he matured into the league, I grewup watching him. Always was fixated to watch him play. These highlights really doesn’t do him justice. You have to watch the full games to really understand his true greatness and mentality. He NEVER F@CKIN QUIT!!! Both ends of the floor. No joke. He could do an unbelievable move and leave people with their jaws on the floor and he wouldn’t be celebrating. He’d hustle his ass back on defense or pick his man up full court. MJ was all bizness!! He was an entertainer but was serious about his craft. So all the creativity and money came with all the hardwork. Earned all of it.

Players like Iverson, Irving, Curry and many others were phenomenal ball handlers when they were on the ground. Michael was also a great ball handler when dribbling, but not only could he break ankles and fake his opponents out on the ground he could fake them out in mid air, like an artist with no boundaries. Plus killer D and can shoot from anywhere. No disrespect to LeBron, but not even close.
Thing about MJ, that guy was so much more than a scorer. His defense was just as pretty as his offense and he was one of the best of his era. They really didn't show to much of his fade away but it was almost unstoppable. He did all that scoring at a time when they played a violent defense. People would get tackled or elbowed going to the hoop back then. That said, my favorite thing he would do is hang out at the half court line when his team was at the line. He would sprint in and if the miss bounced the right way, would be a power dunk off it. Simply amazing.

I don't think I'll ever forget the day he un-retired after his father was murdered. The local news came on like a minute early and the anchors were all going nuts and the sports guy was on. That was odd since usually they are last. All he said was "I'm back." My dad and I knew right away it was MJ. We jumped around like we won the lottery.
Truly the greatest I've ever seen play the game. I don't know how to explain it. He had an aura around him. You could sense the competition felt it. He had them beat before jump ball many days.
Did you ever go to a wizards game when he played for them? I was about 8 years old and loved basketball. He told me we are going to see the greatest player that’s ever lived. I remember seeing him play but definitely noticing that he was at the end of his career. I just remember being happy I got to see the guy from space jam play live 😂

People say that MJ was selfish when he played, and while it could be true, he just wasn't. Look at what he had to do with the Bulls, turn it from a shit team into one of the best teams in the NBA and then he turned it into one of the best of all-time. That's what he was there to do, he might not be a team guy all the time but he was when he needed to be, he brought everyone in the team together. He is the greatest because while other greats could do some of the stuff 90% of the time, he did it on a nightly basis. Every time he stepped on the court, he gave it everything, and He carried the NBA to soaring heights. Magic and Bird, Dr J, they all made the NBA popular. Jordan took the NBA to a level no one could imagine. By his sheer will and popularity. The money that the players make in the NBA today, They can all Thank MJ for that. And his business savvy? well, that is another amazing story.
4.3 40, and 48 inch vertical on a 6'6" shooting guard... he was fast, could jump out of the gym, defended like a demon, could shoot from almost anywhere (3pt not as good), you can't stop that. Even if he was in the game today, he would still be quick enough and he'd just out work you every day. Man's work ethic was next level as well.

My favorite player at the time was John Starks, wore his jersey all the time....and you can see him just getting MURDERED in this video a bunch. I love Jordan, but he did my man DIRTY all the time, to the point where Starks dunked over someone, and Jordan tried to get in there to contest it, and they made a poster for Starks like he dunked over Jordan. I had it on my wall, they called it "The Dunk", but it wasnt even on Jordan, it's pretty funny looking back now on how he almost got him ONE time...and it's named that.
I feel bad I worded it that way, bc he had some fire years, but hey, Jordan was running the show. Nothing but love for Starks, many memories and big moments.

One of the biggest things that separated MJ from the rest was his quick feet. He could change direction (right or left) on a dime and then put that burst of speed on and the guy guarding him is left as a spectator watching him go in for the dunk.

The truth when seeing it for the first time is revealing and mind-blowing. Their has been only one of Michael Jordan and no players have yet been able to be compared to him that includes Lebron James. Just a few of Michael Jordan highlights is more than many of players career highlights. Michael Jordan everyday had more highlights than every player in history. Abd I am a Dr.J fan.But I'm honest about it. Many guys can't admit it because of their hate for Michael Jordan. Size doesn't matter in this argument, but heart, desire, will to win, and skill, and leadership, and the ability to listen to your coaches do. This guy broke, raised the standards so high, and achieved so much that any other players would have to do it the same way or it just doesn't count the same way as Michael Jordan did. Their are no comparisons that match what Michael Jordan has accomplished his entire career. And the real second best is Kareem, with Kobe Bryant in third place, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird, Tim Duncan, all these guys past the real test of winners. Past the stats, and with their teams still had greater finals performances than Lebron James, which I have outside of the top five that I mentioned.You have had to do it on your own to be in the top five category. I saw him in person once. Bucks vs bulls playoffs best of 5 series. Bucks had sir sydney moncrief defensive player of the year. Sydney was in MJs shorts with him everytime he crossed center court. How anyone could be defended any better I don't know. MJ dropped 50 that game.
