As someone who works at a movie theater as a second job, i can tell you that Barbie is on a Star Wars level as far as fan hysteria goes. Its still selling out. The fans are still dressing up to come see it. And guys are discovering that its ok to go watch Barbie.
3 hours R -rated biopic which will made 800 million I think is bigger story because Barbie is family -friendly and big brand
@kristinaant6239 I mean, sure. But Barbie is still the star 🤩 It's a phenomena!
@@kristinaant6239this is not a group project
As crowded Barbie was when I saw it, it didn't come close to movies like The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens. I had to park my car all the way close to a convenient store to watch these movies and on weekdays.
Doesn’t compare it to original Star Wars, that maybe the sequels
Barbie is apparently the tenth fastest grossing movie to reach one billion in history in just 18 days. That's absolutely impressive
@@steveb1008 cope 🤡👍🏾
@@steveb1008lmao, you can't have seen many films
@@steveb1008 You haven't seen many films then 😂
@@steveb1008 incel
While impressive, it would only be at $850 million if not for the 20% inflation since 2020
-19% for talk to me is amazing. Horror continuing to be the genre of word of mouth, inspiration & truly pleasing the target audience. Those directors (that have already met with LucasFilm & Bloomhouse) are gonna get huge gigs after this
It's just like Barbarian late last summer. A film that started out pretty similar, and then held well in the coming weeks thanks to word of mouth.
On a $4 million budget, no less. Crazy.
It seems to be doing well, although the title makes it sound like a chick movie: _Women Talking_ or _You Hurt My Feelings;_ it should have been named "Talk to the Hand." ✋
@@sandal_thong8631that is funny 😂
I watched it last night and was surprised I liked it more than Dead Reckoning p1
3:50 Margot Robbie wanted Gal Gadot to be one of the Barbies not the main Barbie. If we go read the original quote she made in May from the Vogue interview you will see that she described Gadot as embodiment of “Barbie energy”. I don’t know why the headlines are misleading now, all based on that one interview and Margot never said she wanted Gadot as the main Barbie instead of herself. Gadot was the model that she and Grewig cast upon
Right!
I really don’t think you can strike lighting twice with Barbie. It’s an incredible solo film, I don’t think it needs more entries.
They will try
I don’t think they should do a direct sequel , they should expand off Barbie and do a ken movie
💯
Usually if a movie makes a lot of money and if it based on a known IP they will make a sequel
It made a billion dollars. It will be more entries.
Seeing Blue Beetle this Saturday in IMAX!!!🔥🔥🔥....I really hope it's good...I have loved the character since Young Justice.
I found out about him in The Brave and the Bold.
The fact that Barbenheimer are original (Barbie is a big brand for sure but the story of the movie is purely original from the filmmakers as it covers real issues and topics, something that you never expected from a Barbie movie) and managed to find some huge box office hit beating a lot of superhero movies this year is absolutely amazing. Congrats to Gerwig and Nolan for their success, they both deserved it
Oppenheimer is not original.
@@henrypeters5291 Well it's not a sequel or even remake either
@@BryanCostner They both still lose out to the first Avatar.
@@henrypeters5291 Neither is the god awful Barbie either.
@@henrypeters5291 Doesn't really matter 🤷
Oppenheimer making $650 million in 2023 is insane.
I HATE THAT GRACE IS NOT TALKING ABOUT TALK TO ME.
Barbenheimmer is still growing strong and i love it
My weekly dose of movie math fulfilled 🙌🏽
Yup
Barbie is the first WB movie in 15 years to be #1 4 weeks in a row!!
I presume the previous was Harry Potter
@@finfog4590 the dark knight
Nice
I went Oppenheimer at the BFI IMAX 70mm in London on Sunday and it was the 93rd sold out screening in a row. Wow.
Here's the thing - I'm not a huge DC fan for their movies, but I have ALWAYS loved Blue Beetle. And given its my birthday weekend - a present to myself is going to be seeing Blue Beetle in theaters opening weekend. Gotta support my boy!
I was so surprised to go to a 6:45pm showing last Wednesday for Barbie and it was sold out. Loved the movie and I'm glad its doing so well. I think it would be neat to focus on Skipper or any of Barbie's sisters for Barbie 2. You'll never be a Barbie if you're a Skipper.
Do yourself a favor and see Oppenheimer instead. It's far better than the god awful, yes, I said god awful Barfie.
@@steveb1008cope 🤡👍🏾
@@steveb1008they’re both great and you’re just the opposite.
@@steveb1008you need to watch Oppenheimer again, someone has to because most people prefer barbie
@@steveb1008I saw both movies back to back and they are both good for their target audience.
They are COMPLETELY different movies literally opposites. It's odd that they are even compared in anyway other than box office.
It's like telling someone who loves steak, they should try a delicious salad.
Oppenheimer is about to become the second highest grossing R rated film of all time worldwide, just behind Joker ($1.074 billion). Just insane.
Considering it s 3 hrs long that is great
@@CVal012 Yeah, I passed on _John Wick 4_ because it was 3 hours. I might pass on _Oppenheimer_ for the same reason. Maybe if someone I know wants to go, I'll go with them.
It was not rated R in many countries
So the Scarecrow and Joker are box office draws.
Where are you getting your numbers it's at 650m and I doubt it's going to pass 800m (not that there's anything bad with that it's a fantastic movie)
Greta Gerwig’s deal for Narnia might be a good thing? Hear me out: she’ll be able to be super creative while learning even more about working with a large budget and doing stunts and VFX while not having to prove box office, just online viewership with Netflix.
I could see Netflix giving those films a limited theatrical run simply because of Barbies success
She will trash the story just like with Snow White. Probably make Aslan a female. No she needs to be kept from that franchise at all costs
@@wheelstoadventure We haven’t seen Snow White? So like… how do we know it’s bad? All we have is interviews about it so far?
@wheelstoadventure 🤦🏾♀️ GGs feminism isn't even in your face and doesn't minimize men and their roles. She's not in charge of Snow White but if anyone is gonna make it better, it would be her.
Wonder if she is Christian I wonder about her intent on choosing this project.
RDJ losing to Ryan Gosling for KEN? GTFO lmaoooo
I was in London over the last weekend, and the promotion of Blue Beetle is everywhere. It's plastered on what feels like every bus, and posters and everywhere you go you saw blue beetle. So let's see if the advertisement pays out
I'm checking out Blue Beetle...
Barbie passed Captain Marvel? That is pretty impressive.
Pretty sad Captain Marvel made that much
Not really, noone really liked Capt. Marvel and it only made that much because it capitalized on the avengers hype
Grace, I went to see Oppenheimer again on Thursday night (technically Friday at 12:45am) in IMAX, and the entire theater was full! I was so surprised that till this day it’s selling tickets…I gotta say I’m glad I saw it again, (this time in imax) because it was just as engaging as the first time!
Over $50m for Oppenheimer this weekend with an amazing hold, no idea how you're seeing it end with a 7 in front of it. Most of the people that following box office numbers are saying it'll be 850 - 950m.
Both Oppenheimer and Barbie will lose a lot of steam (and screens) next weekend to new releases. Oppenheimer doing 150M more isn't going to be easy.
@@DReppin2009But oppenheimer has IMAX screens to itself for the whole month. And majority of the collections are coming from there. Also to this date they are packed.
Oppenheimer is still to be released in South Korea, Italy and China. She missed that fact.
@@roxader4299 Not sure about china due to their unpredictability, but south korea is bound to be a big market for this film.
@@roxader4299 Exactly what I was going to say, the fact that it has gotten 650M without those markets makes it the more impresive.
Fascinating Barbie records and facts every week. What a weekly dosage, Grace! 👍
I went to watch Barbie a second time this week and it was much better upon second viewing. I saw all the Easter eggs and hints it’s so good
No grace Oppenheimer is about to make anywhere from 800 to 1 billion with its drops and it still had to release in Italy, China, & South Korea etc and that's insane for an r rated 3 hour biopic, probably the most impressive run of all time
I will be seeing blue beetle on Thursday night. Hard-core DC fan here!!!
I'm actually giving Blue Beetle a watch just because I loved the comics.
Was never a big Blue Beetle fan, but hope to catch the movie and if if it is worth the hype, then hopefully it will do well! 👍
Blue Beetle SHOULD get number 1 this week
Blue beetle likely will but it'll still lose money
I”ll be there thursday night with my friends watching Blue Beetle
I plan on watching Blue Beetle on opening night 🔵🪲
I'm not a DC fan but I will come to the theatre to see Blue Beetle! I'm going with my bestie and I can't wait to see it yess
I love blue beetle i will definitely be seeing it in theaters
The Meg 3: Megalodon vs Megan
make it happen Jason 😂😂
I think Barbie potentially surpassing Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 is not only great for Greta Gerwig but also David Heyman many people may not know this but he actually produced Barbie through his company Heyday Films so for him to have the top 2 (also a third) highest grossing WB films worldwide he should be celebrating as well.
I think he’s an incredibly underrated producer. He produced the Paddington movies too.
@@alexlazzerly3677 Yup and he’s producing Wonka which comes out in December, which fun fact comes out on my birthday.
@@VidtopiaEntertainmentthat Wonka trailer looked good 👀
Thanks for skipping talking about sound of freedom
Gerwig doing Narnia was something I was really hyped about. Narnia's got important female roles as well, but... Seeing Snow White kinda scares the crap outta me. I didn't know she was involved in that. 😬
Narnia is also very Chrsitian with Chrsitian themes and values deeply ingrained in its lore and storytelling. If Greta Gerwig plans to get it right, she has to put her own beliefs and messages aside and adapt Narnia how C.S. Lewis wrote it. If she plans to insert her own themes or political/ religious beliefs, then the film will be a shitshow.
Agree here, if Gerwick plans to stick with Narnia. Do the books justice and don't change things to fit her own beliefs.
Isn't that christian book series? She should not be touching that.
I don't see it doing well and it ending up like how Snow White is going to. She's going to have to really stick to the source material here and shouldn't need to "push" any agendas this time since the female characters are already well written enough in the source material.... She needs to not emasculate the men, oh please don't...Maybe Snow White won't be so bad though and Rachel Zegler just needs better media training though. Those interviews were rough.
You mean Disney’s now in production dumpsterfire Snow ‘White’ And The Seven Special People, this new one? Gerwig is involved with that?!
She did it guys, she mentioned Bluey. Now she has got to watch it
Doubt it, but who knows.
“peaky binders“ 😂 love it!
I wonder if Danny Boyle will wanna fast track a 28 Years Later movie with Cillian Murphy sometime soon. 🤞
Narnis if done well, could be the next Lord of The Rings. It would be amazing if she could do it.
Except, Gerwig has a radically different philosophy than the Narnia books. Narnia done by Gerwig would be something radically different than the books, and would likely lose a lot of their appeal (and their audience) because of that.
Exactly!!! Its doa if she can’t direct or write without a political msg especially one in opposition to the themes of this iconic story.
@@mnorth1351 how so? Has she stated how she was going to change the philosophy of the books?
@@mosesoftheblock2311She didn't announce beforehand that she was going to change the philosophy of Barbie either.

Yes, in seeing Blue Beetle. On Friday, my Birthday. Huge fan of the character.
Imagine a Ken sequel with Ryan Gosling’s partner Eva Mendes as Barbie’s friend Teresa. 🤔
Nice.💯👏🏽
I'm legit excited for Blue Beetle. It looks quite funny. And DC fans absolutely exist and should not only be judged by the live action movies box office.
Demeter is definitely a streaming movie. OH BOY, was that the most phones I've ever seen in a movie theater, not only that, people's flashes were going off, REPEATEDLY. The movie was obviously ~mid~ but c'mon. Someone literally pulled out their phone to capture an entire death sequence and upload it to IG, just to check back on it 20 minutes later to see how his story of the movie was going.
Wouldn't say worst movie going experiences, but certainely hilarious. Had this been for a movie I actually wanted to see, I would have been so mad and called someone out, but based on that screening, I feel I would've been outnumbered.
I don't think Barbie's story is done. Yes, she went into the human world but we need to see how she adapts and she chooses to do.
+ we need a movie about the other Barbies. Like Weird Barbie for example ❤.
Agreed 👏🏽💯
I wish Greta continued with original stories. Unless she’s doing a Narnia story that hasn’t been told like the magician’s nephew. Very happy for Barbie, I’ve seen it again yesterday and my theater was packed
Barbie goes to space
Barbie fast and furious
Barbie vs godzilla
Barbie civil war
Barbie meets barnie
What the hell is Last Voyage of the Demeter’? never heard of it until now 😂
It's Dracula into a ship.
😂😂
Meg 2 overseas 😮. It underperformed here, but it may end up breaking even just with overseas!
Not surprising the first Meg did amazing overseas as well. Especially in China.

Already got my Blue Beetle tickets for Thursday!!!!
Movie Math is the highlight of every Sunday for me!! Love you, Grace!!
Thanks to the magic of AMC A-List, Ive seen Barbie 3 times and Oppenheimer 6 times. Both are fabulous movies.
Why?
@@amon__7187 Because I liked them and really enjoyed the theater experiences. If something really hits me, I want to do it again. Sometimes I'll even go just to see a sequence or two that I especially liked.
I really don’t like pitting Margot vs Reese with their companies-you can have two companies doing female centric projects. Are you kidding me? Isn’t this what we’re working towards? I hate it here.
Grace does not even know Oppenheimer is opening in South Korea tomorrow and is breaking out big and it has other markets like China, Italy and Greece. So its not finishing 7xx for sure.
Very happy Barbenheimer was a success and that my TMNT are holding on! Next up is Blue Beetle only in theaters August 17!
I plan on seeing Blue Beetle this weekend in theaters! Looking forward to it
I’m Latino and sadly no interest in Blue Beatle what’s so ever. Maybe streaming but seems too Spy Kids streaming like movie
Hopefully I will be able to attend the opening for Blue Beetle; being a Latino I really wanna see this 🎉
I am not Latino and I wanna see it opening day!
Barbie: What are we going to to this week Oppenheimer? Oppenheimer: The same thing we do every week, Barbie, making more money!
😂 Haha! Great 'Pinky & the Brain' reference, @pirazel7858 ! 🤓👍
If Nolan gets Bond he should take the character back to the 60s.
That would be amazing!
The last voyage of the demeter was very good cinematically, i wholeheartedly recommend going to the theater for it. For a horror movie the visuals ans design were very atmospheric and worth the price to see. Sat in the front row and i wasnt disappointed.
Sounds like we saw this movie already in _Morbius._
@@sandal_thong8631 theres no compating the two, not one bit.

They’re doing a Blue Beetle fan screening in DC on Wednesday, not sure if that’ll impact its Box Office
Wow! I didn't hear about that. Wonder if it's still possible to get tickets for tomorrow then?
I will definitely watch Blue Beetle 🩵
Thank you so for the excellent commentary as always!
“Clearly Jason has no illusions…’I get paid a big paycheck to make crap’” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
There are still a couple major foreign markets that're not opened for Oppenheimer: Korea, Japan, and China

I really want to see Barbie keep this momentum going and even get some wins during Oscar season 🤞
Im seeing Blue Beatle...its a...I gotta find an appropriate way to say it 😂...it appeals to me, okay 😂!
I’m so worried for Blue Beetle but I already used up my movie going budget on Barbenheimer…
I waited all day for your awesome movie math video, it's always a Sunday's delight for this community. Thank you for your hard work every Sunday queen, we love you.
Blue Beetle is the last “big” movie before I go to school, plus I’ve always liked the blue beetle character. So imma be watching this in theaters no matter if it’s good or bad (hope it’s good)
Thanks, Grace. Now I know there's a possible future where Cillian Murphy signs up for a Denis Villeneuve project, and I just can't wait if it's gonna come true or not... 😩
Thanks for another interesting Movie Math! I enjoyed Barbie a lot and I'm so happy for it's success. I loved the Barbie tweets from Malala Yousafzai and her husband a few weeks back!
I'm excited for Blue Beetle.
Bluey’s one episode where Bingo has to become a big girl and sleep in her own bed should get some kind of recognition. Great series.
Thanks for sharing another entertaining Movie Math Grace 😀😁🍿🎥🤩
I'm betting Blue Beetle will be the first movie to beat Barbie for a weekend box office.
I'll be watching DC Blue Beetle in theaters
I think the reason "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" isn't doing well is that unlike the other uni B horror Movies (M3gan, CB, Reinfliled) it isn't a comedy where those films had the 1,2 punch of both laughs and scares
Can't comment on cb. But in the case of Renfield and Megan, they had interesting new concepts to the horror genre that also made them interesting, along with a great marketing push for both. The last voyage just looks like a generic vampire movie and wasn't marketed well imo.
I don’t agree, Insidious did very well and wasn’t comedic. And I think humor would’ve been very out of place in Demeter.
Yay movie Math!!! My Sundays are addicted to it. Must have it. Great again queen Grace!!!👸🏼
Margot Robbie not wanting herself to play Barbie but Gal Gadot is still surprising to me.
I hope Blue Beetle does well.
Bluey is doing so well, so proud of our Australian show!
I believe Encanto actually fell off the chart last week, interestingly enough. I always try to keep an eye out for them ever since you noted their long-running popularity lol
Oppenheimer will probably make £900 million.
People need to watch the series Banshee. I love that more than his Homelander role.
WB finally have some good news 🗞️
One thing about TMNT that absolutely means this iteration of the franchise will carry on is the merch sales, 1 billion in 2023 alone… that’s an insane amount of money and it’s all in Nickelodeon/paramounts pocket
Still nothing this week about “Talk to Me”? It’s doing great right now, and not a word about it from you. C’mon Grace.
Planning to watch Blue Beetle
i cant make the watch along live, but can i re-watch it at a later time?
I'm watching Blue Beetle but not as a DC fan. I liked the trailer
I lost it at the Mark Ruffalo and Jason Statham bits😭😂
I'll wait for the Blue Beetle reviews, if they're good I'll see it Friday/Saturday.
Tenet is probably the best example of what Nolan could do with Bond stylistically so I’m absolutely down for that to some true.
You boring and pretentious? That’s what I’m afraid of.
@@Davidsworldtravels indeed. Tenet was a crap.
@@Davidsworldtravels how was it boring and pretentious? Even if you didn’t like (or didn’t understand) the story, that’s completely beside the point which is why I used the word stylistic. Im really enjoying Twisted Metal. No corporate restraints on the violence and adult language. Its like Quentin Tarantino, WB-James Gunn and Michael Bay wrapped into one 😂
It was surprisingly fun 😅
Last Voyage of the Demeter looks interesting to me, and I would see it in theaters if I could, but I live in a very rural area and it’s not playing anywhere near me.
