The live-action remake is going to suck real bad, but the critics are going to love it, as usual.

The idea for this movie started back in: "1934". At the time, Walt Disney was creating new achievements in animation, as well as more beloved cartoon characters like: "Donald Duck", and "Goofy". However, he wanted to create something bigger. Something more ambitious. So he gathered up most of his crew and discussed with them his plans to make this movie.
You see, while Walt was leading the animation business during the early 30's, he knew that the success wouldn't last for very long, as he was testing new things to do with the medium. As it kept evolving, the shorts were starting to get more expensive, and less profitable. So like some had done before him, the only way he could survive Hollywood at that time, was by making the transition from shorts, to feature films.
The reason he went with the classic Grimms Brother Fairytale as his first film was because he was inspired by a silent film version of the fairytale that he saw in theaters in Kanas City, when he was 15.
While Snow White may not have been the first animated movie as there were some that did preceded it like: "The Adventures of Prince Achmed", it was the first animated movie to use cels as its medium. But in early 20th Century America, the idea of a feature length cartoon was unheard of. When word came out about Walt's plans for an animated movie, it was met with complete ridicule from the press, as they referred to it as: "Disney's Follie". But even with all the doubts surrounding him, that didn't put a dent in Disney's determination. He knew he was going to make something incredible, and was willing to risk everything to prove it.
One of his biggest goals with this movie was to have the audience believe in the characters, as if they were real people to care about. In that... even though all the audience was seeing were nothing but cartoon drawings, he still wanted the audience to connect with them on an emotional level. Sure, cartoons can make people laugh, but can a cartoon make people feel scared? And more importantly... can a cartoon make people cry?
Walt wanted the film to have a sense of realism. If the characters were going to feel real, they also had to look real. The transition from animating Mickey Mouse to more realistic human beings was not an easy task for the animators, but Disney still tried his best to get his animators in the best shape that they could be for Snow White.
Because it was such a huge project, they had to hire hundreds of more artists to work for Disney. And it was a great time to get them too because the movie came out during The Great Depression, back when EVERYONE was looking for a job.
To have them meet up to the Disney standards, Disney built an entire art school in 1932, lead by: "Art Babbit", who took their own courses after work.
In addition, a new device was created going under the name of: "The Multiplane Camera", which held several plates of glass that had artwork on them, and would move the camera to make the animated shot look like it was moving in a 3-dimensional environment.
However, the biggest challenge with this movie was to animate the character realistically. They hired animator: "Grim Natwick", whose known for designing: "Betty Boop", and he came up with the Snow White design that Walt was looking for.
Not all ideas for the movie were successful though. Originally, The Prince was actually gonna have a bigger role, in which he was gonna be imprisoned by The Queen, only to escape so he could save Snow White. But since the artists were still having a hard time animating male humans, The Prince was scaled back.
But... that's not to say everyone in the film had to look realistic. The only characters that were exceptions to the movie's realism, were The Seven Dwarfs. Since they're the comic reliefs of the movie, they were allowed to be more animated. However, while the animators may have been more comfortable animating The Dwarfs, that doesn't mean they don't come with a big challenge.
For many years during the production, Disney had a hard time trying to name The Dwarves. There were a total of 49 names. Some of which include: "Awful", "Baldie", "Blabby", "Burpy", "Crabby", "Cranky", "Deafy", "Dirty", "Dizzy", "Flabby", "Gabby", 'Goofy", "Helpful", 'Hicky", "Hoppy", "Hungry", "Jumpy", "Lazy", "Nifty", "Puffy", "Shorty", "Sneezy-Wheezy", "Shifty", "Sniffy", "Snoopy", "Soulful", "Snuffy", "Swift", "Tearful", "Thrifty", 'Toppy", 'Weepy", "Wheezy", and "Wistful". And that's not even all of them.
Finally though, less than a year before its release, that names that would distinguish each of them, finally settled with: "Doc", "Happy", "Sneezy", "Grumpy", "Bashful", "Sleepy", and "Dopey".
But despite all of the creative challenges, and despite the attempts to achieve realism, there was big obstacle that was the roughest for Disney to overcome: "Money". The film took so much time to make, that it ended up sucking out all of the money that was left in the studio. The Disney Brothers tried to get some extra money from the Bank of America by showing them an unfinished version of the movie. But even that wasn't enough to cover the budget. As much as Walt's brother: "Roy", and his wife: "Lillian", tried to tell him to stop, he was willing to go into his own fortune. The film ultimately ended up costing $1.5,000,000. At that point, it wasn't just the money that was at risk. Disney put his company, and his livelihood on the line.
After 4 years of production, the moment finally came on December, 1937, when it premiered at the Carthay Circle Theater. It was a sold out event and some of the biggest stars were there to witness Walt's first movie. It was one of the most stressful moments in Walt's life, and once the movie was over, Disney's Follie, turned into Disney's phenomenon. It was a standing novation that made the audience laugh, and even got Walt on the cover of Time Magazine. It was beloved by critics and audiences and became the highest grossing sound film of all-time, before it was quickly dethroned by: "Gone with the Wind". But the revenue didn't just come from the film itself. It was credited as the first movie to have merchandise released on the same day as the film. And it even put out the first feature film soundtrack on Phonographic Records. The movie even inspired MGM to make their own fantasy film, which ultimately became the 1939 classic: "The Wizard Of Oz". It also got Academy Award recognition in which it was nominated for Best Original Score. The movie has also been accepted by the National Film Board Registry, and the AFI has put the movie on several of their lists. It was number 49 on their top 100 movies list, number 19 on their list of greatest songs with: "Someday My Prince Will Come", and number 10 on their list of top 100 greatest villain with The Queen.
It was so successful that it allowed Walt to grow his company even bigger than before, and allowed him to bring in more artists to make even more cartoons, and especially... more movies.

Not that I'm looking forward to that remake but the actress (she's from Spielberg's West Side Story) is half-Colombia, and it isn't cancelled, just delayed.
But we can all ignored that trainwreck.
