Fun fact: Mean Girls (2024) sold 30% fewer tickets than Mean Girls in 2004, despite 17% higher opening weekend box office.
I remember when I was little I saw E.T. 5 times in the theater. Today that would have cost about $100-150. Back in 1982 it was $30.
✨inflation🎉🥴✨
The original made $24 million in 2004. That’s $38 million in today’s terms.
I feel like there’s something missing… that makes no sense.
Is call information, n movie theater prices have double for the same quantity n triple on some for deluxe theaters.
Please Don’t skip season one of Reacher Grace, it’s the better season and is fantastic. Please watch it if you’re gonna watch it at all
Oh yeah and was nice to see that I Zombie's copper who's in S01 also had cameo in S02 🙂
Wouldn't say its the better season both have been fantastic. But season 1 had better action. No idea what happened to the one shot action scenes this season. Maybe we get one next episode
@@joebond545: I like the second season, it’s good tv by any standard I just think the first was the bit better if the two
@@Rockstar-bq5fm do u agree the action has been worse this season? I don't know what happened, maybe Alan is too big now to look good fighting?
@@joebond545: I don’t think the action is a problem, I think there was a better supporting cast in the first season that boosted it. But again, I gotta say. I do really like the second season
GRACE, DO NOT SKIP REACHER SEASON 1….IT WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!
Notice how Grace waited like five weeks to even mention reacher
My thoughts exactly.
If Grace can only watch one, watch No1.
That first season had no reason being that good. Also was absolutely on board with the casting of Alan Ritchinson as Reacher
Yeah why would you not watch it??
Makes no damn sense to skip a premiere season of a show and go directly to the follow up season! Who does that?! Smdh 😒
Grace they're called "chick flicks" been a term for a long time now, and its not surprising. Barbie and Mean Girls are aimed at women and are in genres that appeal to women. The Marvels and BoP are boy genres being CBMs but were aimed at women and didn't try to appeal to men who are the biggest audience for the genre. Its not really surprising. You even said yourself that women just don't show up for superhero movies on their own the way men do
Don't skip season 1 of Reacher! It was amazing and you need it to understand the character for season 2 as it isn't as an in depth character piece as season 2 is more about the ensemble.
Hollywood seemed to forget for a time that women actually like feminine movies.
IKR. You put actresses in PINK and women flock to the theaters. This is the opposite of shocking
Reasonable in retrospect, but a year ago, there were few predicting that _Barbie, Taylor Swift the Eras Tour,_ and _Mean Girls_ would do well. And the last remains to be seen.
@@MaxxRemKing1 Nope. It's because they are IP or recognisable things.
The original Mean Girls had one of the best casts of any teenage drama: Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, and Amanda Seyfried at the height of their careers ... also had some great supporting actors like Lizzy Kaplan and Lacy Chabert all perfect fits for their smaller roles.
Star Power is very important in female focused movies.
It was a great original cast ❤
Lacey Chabert and Lizzy Kaplan roles were NOT small. And Rachel McAdams, and Amanda Seyfried became star due to the film, they are in the height if their career right now.
Lohan was the only famous person in that cast when it came out. "Best cast" is hindsight.
That was Amanda Seyfried's first movie, she was 17. She didnt become more well known until she booked Mama Mia
I’m not so sure you know what “height of” means
The Equalizer 3 was so freaking good Denzel hasn’t missed a beat!
I was one of the MANY gay men that went to see Mean Girls opening day and I can tell you the theater we ALIVE the whole time! I was singing along as quietly as I could but I cannot speak for the other guys in the theater wearing pink screaming "So raise your right finger!!!!" ❤️❤️❤️
Reacher session 1 was very good and stayed very faithful to the book
@mikejunior211 I've only read 5 Reacher books the ones the films where not among them so I don't know 😕
lol🤣👏🏽Grace had me cracking up when it came to the Jason Statham comments about taking the check to the bank🤣Cashing that check saying, "I'm getting paid, _are you_ 🕶"
You said "the diversity demos are not great". Yet the breakdown of diversity in the U.S. is 60% white, 19% hispanic, 12% black and 6% asian. So I'm basically thoroughly confused on what kind of spread you were looking for. It seems this movie drew almost identical spread to the diversity of America. What am I missing here?
movie audience diversity ≠ general diversity
@@CYeoung In which case isn't a film that draws out more people from a demographic underrepresented in movie audiences (white) a GOOD thing? You are drawing in people who rarely going to the cinema after all.
@@CYeoung Whats the skew?

David Ayer is in a better place than what Grace thinks, imo. Beekeeper was pure 90s schlock, which could be nostalgicly lucrative going forward if done right. I’d even like to see Ayers do some sort of superhero work on streaming
Idk beekeeper looks less memorable than 311 and the Meg to me.
@@mukkywaterbut a better film.
@@mukkywater and it turned out to be the better film nonetheless.
I would not see it even for free.
I don’t think he can expand back into that space until he completely lets go of this whole Ayer Cut thing. Just imagine how much better Beekeeper would’ve done if he actually talked about it rather than talking about how WB-DC doesn’t wanna release his Ayer Cut. 🤷🏽♂️
Don't skip Season 1 of Reacher. It is worth the watch.
As someone who is fluent in Japanese cinema, I would like to point out, that he term "pink movie" is... let's just say: it's already taken. "Pinku eiga" (ピンク映画), or pink movies, describes an interesting genre-crossing: Cheap and short softcore erotic films, but with arthouse sensibilities and more often than not a feminist bend. (That may sound weird to Western ears, but these are actually really interesting and wildly original. It was also really mainstream over there for decades.) Just something to consider: Whenever you call for "more pink movies", a small part of your audience will giggle uncontrollably.
Killers of the Flower Moon dropped out of the top 10 on iTunes because it was released on Apple TV+ this past week. It’s #2 on the streaming service right now. That’s the only reason, Grace.
I like “Pink” as a symbol of female strength and power. Own it girls. I’m wearing a Pink t-shirt right as I type :)
The beekeeper was a blast. I saw it today
"The Beekeeper" was shockingly good. I truly enjoyed it.
Very curious to see the week-to-week holds for Mean Girls.
Very curious to see this drop like a brick
Probably will be okay since there's no other big movie releases
@@MaxxRemKing1 shhh … let people have nice thing even if you can’t.
It's such a good musical!! I loved Wonka and I can't believe I.can actually say I may have liked this one a teeny bit more... I dunno. I adore BOTH!!! I hope it has a solid hold for sure.
I suspect the CinemaScore is premature. I can't see so many people being excited to see it then bashing it on their way out the door.
Marvel and DC can't realize that poorly written female characters don't resonate with audiences. I am glad that others in Hollywood are starting to realize this and hope there will be more.
Same reason women normally don't go to see Christopher Nolan or Martin Scorsese movies. Badly written female characters though the latter is almost entirely a boys club.
🤔🤔
I agree
@@gilbertoarellano8525Exactly....Wonder Woman was actually good....Patty Jenkin's ego is what destroyed WW84.
It has nothing to do with the characters being "good" nor "bad". Most women are just not interested in Superhero stories; plain and simple.
I had a good time watching Mean Girls!!! I LOVED all the singing!! It just ALL fit so well! I am looking forward to seeing this again in Dolby! You're right, Grace, everyone gave 100%. The extras were EXTRA and I loved it. ❤❤
Reacher is by far the best show on television, why Grace would you skip season 1? It was incredible.
Because she is lazy. Like when she says Peacemaker isn't good, when she never watched it.
She is too busy ignoring movies like Sounds of Freedom with a low budget only for it to succeed. Then when a group of women take a proven commodity like Mean Girls and make money on a cheap budget act like they invented the wheel.
I’m happy mean girls is doing well. My friend and I had a great time in our pink. Happy to see musicals doing well again
The beekeeper was a lot of fun! I enjoyed it.
I wouldn't skip Reacher Season 1, it's so good
Beekeeper is good stuff. Saw it last week. It's a standard Statham affair, but it's fun! The story had a lil twist i didn't expect, lol. I'm surprised Book of Clarence did that badly...How did Night Swim do better? Night Swim was horrible.
Wonder Woman is a big main character that had a tv show back in the day. You can’t compare that character to Captain Marvel and Harley Quinn. This is why she is the favorite superhero for a lot of women. Lynda Carter is probably more popular than Gal Gadot! 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Guess we’ll see if Catwoman or Supergirl get their movies! They’re up there with Wonder Woman
@@JUANxxTNAFAN they already did
@@forcecaptainoverlordsuprem2964 I mean good movies. That’s the difference
It’s crazy how a show from the 70s is still pop culture relevant today. When people think about Wonder Woman they still picture Lynda Carter. Young girls still dress up like her for Halloween.
Never heard of Linda Carter. I do know Gal Gadot alright!!
If you watch reacher DON'T SKIP SEASON 1!!!. Season 1 is SO GOOD me and mine have rewatched it a total of three times all the way though over the last couple of years. Your doing yourself a diservice by skipping it.
I’m pretty sure the main reason Barbie didn’t hit #1 on the Nielsen movie chart and didn’t get into the other charts was likely because Max isn’t nearly as big as Netflix, Prime Video or Disney+ with subscriber numbers. If Barbie had debuted on Netflix instead of Max it would’ve been the biggest movie on all the charts. Though I feel like it was the right call to have it debut exclusively on Max and I think it’s a definite hit for them.
That moment when Hollywood realises a majority of females aren’t interested in superheroes, exception of course, and instead should make movies that caters to their interests 🤯🙀
Idk about majority I and others I know love starwars marvel and dc myself but I can agree that we like pink😂
crazy to think how much better Mean Girls wouldve likely managed to do if it was a sequel with the original cast
Dont forget goldie hawn one of the og female movie producers/actress with private Benjamin
Great movie. Even when she went redhead! Thanks for the reminder, I need a good funny movie for tonight ❤
Some women, and many men, are interested in well-told female superhero movies, emphasis on well-told. The problem with many of these blockbuster films is the script. You can't fix script issues in post-production.
Alan Ritchson has a HUGE female fanbase. Is it absurd to think he could fulfill Kate Hudson's need for male stars in rom-coms?
I remember when Grace was cringing at Wonka, hehe she said it was gonna be a flop
The original mean girls had an A- cinemascore and 18 million budget yeah they should have did a sequel to the original mean girls with the OGS returning as adults
That sounds amazing...I would actually watch that Mean Girls movie 😂
Ah I miss those days when studios could resist a sequel to keep the integrity of the original…
Barbie is a great movie but mean girls flop in movie theater. It's may not break even.
I think the success of the “Pink” movies has little to do with the color and more to do with feminine female characters. I think audiences are craving that in addition to masculine male characters as the success of Reacher shows. The girl boss trope was fun and fresh at first but now it t feels like more of the same.
Mean Girls is timeless & works in any generation!
Couldn't agree more!!❤❤
"The NFL couldn't even avoid the weather. Speaking of Taylor Swift..."
So, just so we are clear. It is ok to have production focused unapologetically on female audiences right? So do we agree that the opposite is true?
Great video Grace. It always makes me laugh when say” Leave that fish alone lady” hahaha
Thinking that any pink (female lead) project is where studios should invest in is super naive. Barbie and Wonder Wonder are iconic characters with generational appeal and Taylor Swift is a pop culture iconic for her target audience. Mean Girl even has a nostalgia factor. Any female property that doesn’t have at least one of those elements going for it is going to have some issues.
She was just pointing out the seeming superstition of pink being the winning x factor of the moment. It's in jest
You know, I find it rich that Grace just crapped over Ayer. That man was cheated out of presenting a film HE worked hard on and put his all in. Imagine working on a project and you've finished it and someone comes behind you and turn that project into a mess, you get a write up for it, and you didn't even present YOUR project. Someone else screwed it up and kept YOUR name on it. Goofballs
Oh Grace, you’ve had me in stitches throughout this video!!🤣🤣🤣 You are hilarious!!! Thank you for brightening my day 😊😊😊
DONT SKIP SEASON ONE OF REACHER!! It’s so good!! Showed my brother in law and he binged it Christmas Day!
The fact that woman are going to movies geared toward female themes and avoiding ones that are not is not shocking.
Don't skip season 1 for season 2, Grace.
If you only have time for one season - go for season 1.
Season 1 is awesome, season 2 is only ok.
Talking about Reacher!!!!!
I’m proud of women for voting with their wallets and showing Hollywood what kind of entertainment they prefer. I also hope that Hollywood gets the message that it’s not profitable for anyone turning boy brands into girl brands. Who would have guessed…IN GENERAL men and women have different interests while also having a lot of overlap?! What a novel concept.
❤😊
What boy brands into girl brands? I don’t think it matters as long as the product has good writing. I don’t think it’s as simple as girls should have only this and boys this😂
@@savannagood1617 I agree with you on that 👏
@@savannagood1617 They mean that some properties like say, James Bond are generally more popular with men than with women & trying to make them more "female friendly" tends to destroy the stuff the men like about the property. Obviously there will be women who like more male centric stuff & vise versa but Hollywood needs to go back to making movies for certain demographics instead of trying to be one size fits all.
I know right it’s like such a mental breakthrough to figure that out
Mean girls cost 36m to make, Godzilla minus one cost 15m to make
Godzilla was awesome. Can't wait to purchase it in 4k blu-ray
Mean Girls actually paid the people involved unlike Godzilla: Minus One. Easy to be cheap when there’s no unions

It’s a shame Monarch isn’t popping up on the lists.
Yup, s1 rocks repeatedly, i.won't ever rewatch s2
Monarch was terrible.
@@wolflarson71 what didn’t you like about it?
It’s about time women just rally behind their projects and not have to wait for men to catch on. Movie night doesn’t have to = date night. Movie night = ladies night.
@@mikejunior211 bro, watch the video. 😞
1:16 if you focus female movies at the pink phenomenon you are gonna kill it by oversaturation fast. Its better to not steryotype it taylor swift was not that pink for example and her albuns literally display different aesthetics. I believe wicked has potential tho but because is more than glinda it has elphaba to balance it off the production design has all hope of being beautiful and magical like the original wizards of oz and is back up by being based on a popular musical and singers with a super famous singer. Im sure that examining more carefully women more popular interests producers could make projects that appeal to them and projects that appeal to all( we can have both)
Its a feeling and a type of product more than a literal color, but its perfectly fine to have a color designation, just like black comedies do. These can be Pink Power movie genre, for example.
@@handler8838 i just think you have to be careful especially because i mean black comedy means tragic comedy and in the western world the association is kinda clear because of funerals that is a very general cultural thing but women were pushed the color pink not so long ago and they became feed up with it and of course there could and should be ultrafeminine movies that embrace that color like have been before and there must always has a place like legally blondie barbie mean girls because some women love pink and ultrafeminine aesthetic but Gracie is often talking about women going to the cinema and i think focus it on pink is a mistake even with business hats like she says because it can oversaturate very fast like it has before and she even put some movies that are not exactly that as the phenomenon like taylor swift that is very feminine but she her aesthetic is not defined by pink she often embrace different aesthetics despide talking about her life as a woman and has fans that go with her in all these different eras. i think girly movies could maybe be a better name it embraces femininity and is call out is focus on it but doesn't focus so much on a especific part of it. Like wicked seems to be a girly movie its a 2 women protagonist is about their friendship even has school movie vibes and glinda that wear a lot of pink but also has elphaba and a fantasy setting that is really magical but not something like barbie or classic disney princess extra girly( again i think both have space and there should be and that is why i think is important to adress there is different types of women focus movies and the diversity of different offerings can help to make them more than a trend that will pass)
It's highly apparent that women like more feminine female characters and the more "action" oriented female character doesn't represent them as narratives would like us to believe.🤔
That’s exactly it. If anything, it’s men that like the action female more than women do (ie Selene, The Bride, Sarah Connor, Ripley, Samus, Lara Croft…etc), especially gay men lol.
Hollywood should make a Sailor Moon movie
@jeremyfields9009 That would be a good compromise, but sadly most girls didn't watch Sailor Moon in the United States.
He’s no Batman. However he can be Bane, or Colossus.
Alan Ritchson - First, Grace - don't skip Reacher season 1, it was better than 2. Second, I don't think he should get into any comic book movies, that genre is dying. What he SHOULD do is give Henry Cavill a call and get into the Warhammer 40k universe that Amazon just greenlit. I think Ritchson would be incredible in that IP.
"In an investigation, details matter" - Alan Reacher, Lord Inquisitor.
Reacher s1 & 2 has been great! A breathe of fresh air.
Skipping season 1 of Reacher is by far the silliest take ever. Season 2 is good but season 1 is the better season. People turned out for season 2 on the strength of season 1.
You are so correct on skipping season 1 and going to season 2 to watch a show. Who does that ?
That new Zendaya tennis movie...is more of a steamy romance, than a sports movie 🙂
Saw the preview: hard pass.
Please don't skip over season 1 of Reacher. Watch that instead. Its based on the first book, while season 2 is the 12th. Not sure about him as Batman, BUT people hated on Keaton and Ledger for their iconic roles in Batman before seeing them in action.
The reason why Wonka's sequel hasn't been announced is because Roald Dahl's entire catalog is set up for adaptations at Netflix. Wonka was in production at WB before the deal was made so there has to be a bit of a standstill there. I'd rather it stay with WB, it'll at guarantee a theatrical release.
Reacher is awesome!
Here's an idea for reviewing stuff when the review embargo ends when the show drops: do your regular spoiler review, but have the first few minutes spoiler-free, so people can decide if it's worth watching.
I could see Alan Richson becoming James Gunn's Aquaman. It would be weird and full circle as he also was Arthur Curry in Smallville.
Yea I'f he not aquaman in New dcu then Shazam would be good fit if they give blk hair.
I’m happy that Wonka is doing well. I really enjoyed it. Also went to see The Beekeeper and thought it was surprisingly good 😀
I'll always maintain interest in what David Ayer's Suicide Squad would've looked like. After seeing Beekeeper, which delivered some of his best stuff I've seen since Fury (I did enjoy Sabotage though), I can't imagine that film being less than a serviceably fun and appropiately gritty comic book romp. Then again, I'm the kind of DC fan that still wants to see the Schumacher Batman Forever cut, so take this as you will.
I don't usually comment but I finally saw poor things and you are so right. You have been the only person on online thus far that reflects how I feel about the film. I wish I never saw it.
Robert Redford's the boys in the boat! Are you sure Grace?!😅
Wouldn’t it be better for about 50% male and 50% female? Meaning it appealed to a lot of people?
Yes ideally & you see that for most billion dollar movies. But you rarely see that large of a female audience at movies. For the most part, movie audiences tend to lean more male than female.
I recently read a very interesting fashion article outlining one of the big 2024 trends would be what they called “Girlcore”, and these numbers reflect that.. this interest in really embracing all things girly and pink (Barbie, Mean Girls etc). I agree with you Grace, if I was a producer I’d be looking at ways to throw in more pink to my movies too 😂💕
So excited to see what mean girls has done!!!
I unfortunately think all the press around The Color Purple may have turned people off. Most people I’ve spoken with no nothing about the movie except that Taraji was crying and they weren’t treated well on set. That’s not to say she shouldn’t have spoken out, but all people know is the controversy and not how good the movie is.
Nope, flopped for the same reason why Till, Clemency and many others have flopped - audiences does NOT want to see dramas about Black people, they see it as repetitive and tiresome. Look how no one wants to see "Rustin" for free on Netflix, it doesn't even have 5K votes on IMDB...
This budget of a100 million is what killed Color Purple, Harriet was consider a success cause it made 44 million on 17 million budget, The Color Purple already made much more only in US - 57 million, so it is widely seen for this genre, but too expensive.
I suspect Black folks saw _The Color Purple_ the first week or two and have moved on to the next Black movie like _The Book of Clarence_ or _American Fiction._ If they are smart they won't put it on streaming until after the Academy Awards. Maybe it will have a hiatus in theaters, but then if it gets nominations will come back to theaters for non-Black audiences to see it?
@@manantial773I don't want to see movies about black TRAUMA. That's why I loved The Little Mermaid with Halle Bailey

I think the key is to do more female lead movies that women actually want to see, too many studios are trying to take shortcuts by appropriating masculine franchises and repurposing them for women, but for the most part women aren't interested in gritty r-rated action thrillers or cosmic sci-fi escapades, they want fun, humour and optimism.
I think Wonka hasn’t had a sequel announced yet because to many people it may seem unnecessary because the original Chocolate Factory movie basically already serves as a sequel.
Though that is a large time-jump when the factory is closed to the public and Wonka is looking to retire. A sequel here would mean seeing the factory in its heyday, when Wonka was a young man
They already remade the movie from 1971. If they want to jump ahead and make a sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, that's not based on the author's book, then I'd be for that.
I have this feeling that by 2030 all of the major franchises in Hollywood will be almost dying or dead. This will lead to a new Hollywood renaissance fueled by originality and creativity. I hope it’s true and I can’t wait for it!
AI movies or maybe Apple will make VR movies a thing!
It will be intereinteresting to see how 2024 performs against 2023, because with very few exceptions, all the big films this year are franchise sequels or remakes. I wonder if we will get a single Billion dollar movie.
What originality? The top films are still all franchises pretty much. How are Wonka, Mean Girls, etc original?
@@miz4535 read my comment again…it clearly says BY 2030. I think franchise interest will largely die off in the next 6 years.
This past week I've started the original Star Trek series, it's surprisingly good, a lot deeper and more philosophical than I was expecting, and a lot more sophisticated, compared to shows today you can tell they did it on a tight budget, it's remarkable how much they were able to do with so little, the quality of the writing is on another level, you just don't see this sort of thing today, genre shows now are all about trends, spectacle and identity politics
Reacher season 2 is Awesome!
Wonka 100% does not need a sequel, and I loved Wonka.
They probably greenlite the Wonka Cinematic Universe tomorrow tbh Wonka but this time he's Ralph Fiennes! What happened to the Blueberry Girl? Which Asian actor plays the inventor of the Snozzberries! Stay tuned!
Nah we need to see how wonka enslaved the oompa loompas
The author of _Charlie and the Chocolate Factory_ botched the sequel in his book. Maybe if someone wants to reimagine what Charlie and Wonka got up to after Charlie was named his heir that could be a good movie?
I think women are not going to turn up for wicked as much as expected, I think some females don’t see Ariana as a girls girl and she may bomb this movie.
Went to see The Iron Claw today and the theater was FULL of young girls w moms in PINK. & surprisingly a lot with those special AMC popcorn tins.
Someone said _Mean Girls_ sold out Friday (perhaps meaning they didn't want to sit in the front two rows) so they went to see other movies like _Anyone But You_ or maybe even two movies in a row including _Iron Claw._
Love Movie Math as always. I think it’s important to note that Killers of the Flower Moon might be dropping because it is now available on Apple TV+ with no extra charge.
Of course Alan Ritchson isn't Batman, he's Aquamam. Remember on Smallville he wore a orange and green shirt and green pants.
At this point, it looks like almost any guy can play Batman (and has).
Even Keanu Reeves has played Batman 😂
I like the idea in _The Flash_ that the three Batmans had different personalities or relationships to Barry based on their stories. So we had the loner Batman played by Michael Keaton who wasn't much of a team leader; the aloof Ben Afleck Batman that would work well with others like Barry and Wonder Woman but didn't socialize; then the personable George Clooney that was a good friend to Barry, perhaps because he was a mentor to Robin and Batgirl.

Me and some friends are going to see it this weekend and I am super excited about it. I still need to see Wonka and Migration, these movies were coming out so fast over the holidays, that I didn't have to chance to see them in theaters so I'll be streaming a lot of stuff. I also randomly overheard some people talking about how good "Anyone But You" is so I'm adding that to my watchlist.
Such a shame that The Color Purple isn't in the top 10 anymore. It was a really good movie and the performances were amazing. I think the behind-the-scenes drama and the lack of promotion after its release really didn't help it. Also, they should have marketed the film as an "American" story so it had broader appeal instead of relying so heavily on black audiences to support it. Hopefully, it gets a boost when it's released overseas but I know black films usually don't perform well overseas.
I think The Book of Clarance was DOA. I don't think they promoted it enough and the trailer really made it seem like the story was poking fun or belittling Jesus Christ which was a huge mistake since black Americans tend to lean toward Christianity and this could have been a major turn-off (I know it was for me when I first saw the trailer).
Reacher season 1 is the best, better than season 2, don't skip it!
