  • Oxybutynin is an anticholinergic indicated for overactive bladder (OAB). Here we will discuss important precautions, side effects, drug interactions and contraindications.
Oxybutynin acts as a selective muscarinic type 3 receptor antagonist. It causes bladder relaxation and thereby reduces urinary incontinence. However, it can produce retention of urine. Due to blockage of cholinergic actions, it can reduce GI motility, induce hallucinations and may cause muscle weakness. Somnolence, dizziness, constipation and blurred vision are few important side effects.
