I was lucky because I found a private Clinic in Toronto called Prosper menopause clinic. The NP and Specialist nurse was trained by Dr Newson. So if your reading this in Canada look them up. I got exactly the care and support I needed.
It’s amazing how uninformed health care professionals are about HRT even now. The NP at my community clinic recently told me I’d only need HRT for a couple of years and I was compelled to corrected her and suggested she should be sure to update her understanding before she negatively affects her patients health trajectory by removing necessary hormone treatment. It’s tragic how many women are making do without vital hormones.

Thank you very much for all the education you are giving for free. I have one question that still nobody was able to answer me, if it's safe to take vaginal estrogen to deal with localised dryness, and they say it doesn't go to the rest of the body, so you don't need added progesterone, why is it that when you use progesteron locally in the vagina, as part of HRT, it does get into the main blood stream and it does reach the womb to protect it. Isn't it a contradiction?
Thank you for this wonderful information. I just had a radical hysterectomy 3 weeks ago. I have been on HRT for about 2 years and it has been a huge help. I had to swap patch brand that caused bleeding and this was a blessing because I discovered I had a very large cyst on my ovary, that had probably been there for years. My pathology was all benign. I have returned to using my regular patches but was concerned about still taking my progesterone. Thanks for clearing up that I can if it helps and it does thanks 🙏🏻

I would love a private consultation with you, I have a paraganglioma tumor, interestingly this manifested growing more exactly with my last period, I did not have a period for a while and the gynecologist have me the pill, but now I can see I have been low in progesterone and estrogen. I had 5 miscarriages and doctors never thought I'm checking my hormones levels ...

I really enjoy your videos. They are helping me navigate my own perimenopause. Something I would love to learn more about is whether you can take progesterone both vaginally and orally at the same time. For example, I do well with 100 mg orally because it helps anxiety yet more than 100mg gives me symptoms however I need it vaginally to decrease menstrual flow due to low ferritin levels. I heard you say many times you can take it orally with the Mirena iud so I would assume it is fine to take it both orally and vaginally but have not heard anyone discuss this. My NP has just suggested me taking Hrt 5 days a week and not for two days a week saying it helps to down regulate receptors and create a better system response. This makes sense to me however she also prescribed 80/20 Estriol/estradiol and what I can deduce this is not really being prescribed anymore as it’s such a weak form of estrogen…? Thank you penny

I started her 2 years ago and increased my estrogen to 3 to 4 pumps per day but I noticed my appetite increase and I have put on 7 kg in weight. It is upsetting as I lift very heavy weights 3 times a week and I walk briskly 2 hours per day which I've done for 20 years as I am now 50. I've lowered my oestrogel to 1 pump per day but I'm still finding it difficult to lose the weight. Also I eat a low carb diet with lots of protein and healthy fats so it would be great if you could suggest what I need to do? Thanks from Oonagh

When I’ve taken the micronized pro pill orally, it makes me very dizzy the next day. My doctor never mentioned trying it vaginally. Instead, I pay for compounded progestins capsule.
Iv just been prescribed HRT I’m on continuous progesterone because I’m 2 years post menopause however I’m still confused and concerned if I take it without a break or have the 3 day break. I’d rather not have a bleed but if my womb lining needs to shed any buildup from the oestrogen then that’s fine but I’d just rather avoid bleeding so I’m wondering if it’s safe to take progesterone every day along with my oestrogen without any breaks?
I am 58. I started on HRT (gel and progesterone) in spring 2020. At the time I heard that progesterone can adversely affect mood and so I opted to administer vaginally and despite my age I continue to take it cyclically, therefore having a regular bleed every month. This suits me although I realise most women would think this was crazy! I wonder if there is any reason why I should change to continuous or if I am ok as I am indefinitely.
In her books Suzanne Somers interviewed the cutting edge doctors in the USA, specializing in HRT, many agreed that cyclical is more physiological, it mimics Nature, while continuous application puts a woman in a state of pregnancy, which is not natural and can have adverse side effects.
Every ‘expert’ says something different, some menopause experts like Menopause Taylor (gynaecologist on UA-cam) says continuous is better to prevent breast changes, she says the more cycles you have in your life the higher your risk of breast cancer. But other experts say sequential/cyclical is best. It’s so confusing!
Why is that Estrogen doses vary based on the woman, but micronized progesterone is always 100 mcg? It would seem that a lower (or higher) dose could also be efficacious? Why is this always constant for every woman. Happy to see your own channel! 🙂
Progesterone isn’t static but is often balanced by the level of estrogen you need to manage your symptoms. If you aren’t sleeping adequately chances are your progesterone isn’t high enough (it makes you sleepy which is why you take it before bed). Your dosing is relative to your self reporting of symptoms and so requires multiple appointments to determine whether you need or want a higher or lower dose based in results. Remember it’s YOU driving the bus so it’s a good idea to chart your symptoms and be vocal with your doctor. I went from minor relief at the lowest dose to about 95% relief of all issues. I started at .05mg E and 100mg P. After laddering up and communicating about what my Mother and aunt take, I ended up at 2mg E and 200mg P. I also take testosterone for confidence and muscle building and that’s 0.75gm. Testosterone is perhaps the most overlooked as it totally drops off for women and we have more of it than any other sex hormone during our fertility years.
Is it ok to top up laclimella (dienogest 2 mg + oestradiol valerate 1 mg) with oestrogel ? What should be oestradiol serum for a 46 years old woman? Is it possible if you are menopausal without stopping hormones? I’m almost 52 years old.

I'd love a video on partial hysterectomy causing premenopause. I had my uterus removed 3 years ago and I've felt menopause symptoms ever since but because I have my ovaries they will not give me hormones.
Hysterectomy, even partial, disrupts the blood supply to the ovaries. They can regain function but don’t always make a complete recovery. You may benefit from Testosterone, Estradiol and Progesterone.
Thank you so much for the informative video I m in perimenopause and have pco also still my cycle is every 2 4 days I changed 3 obg the second gave me ciclacur valerian estradiol oral 2 mg and it has also 10 brown pills progesterone 0.5 mg and then I stop for 7 days and period arrives. I live a miracle I started sleeping again my concentration came back.. Second obg said take outrogestan 200 mg for 12 to 14cdays because the brown pills is synthetic.. Along with estradiol I take progesterone for 12 days? And then stop again for a week? Third obg said start patches evorel sequi 50 but I saw in the patches it's only 0.50 mg every 24 hours of estradiol. I m feeling so well with the pills now.. I m 44 years old with no history of blood clots or anything else. I have heart palpitations for 3 years now and take lopressor. Everyone is saying pills will produce blood clots in liver. I m lost.. In Greece we don't have a lot of pharmaceutical choices patches are so hard to find.. Evorel ce 100 is nowhere.. What can I do? I don't want to lower the dose of estradiol.. Is outrogestan biodentical a lot better from synthetic progesterone? Can you give me any clue? I m 44 years old and raising a 6 year old son and having a mother with altzheimer thank you
I have a GP (UK) appointment this afternoon, where I will, once again, ask for HRT. It has been refused in the past due to a heart problem and weight gain. Both of these issues have been caused by Covid and now Long Covid. Does anyone have any experience of receiving HRT with a similar situation? TIA 🤔🙂
Every case has to be evaluated by a serious professional, but I know people which have been given HRT after having had blood cloth or even oncological problems , change the doctor until you find one like the great doctor Louise which evaluates all aspects and prioritize mental and phisical well Beeing of the patients . Hi Dr. Nelson, I had my gall bladder removed when I was in my early twenties, I am perimenopausal and was given Everol Sequi patches 3.2mg. Day one and I had terrible nausea. Does a lack of a gall bladder create problems? My NHS clinic say they don’t have body identical hrt and can’t give me the spray which was my first choice. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Hi Dr I had colon rectal cancer in Ovaries. 2001 with that surgery my Ovaries So you know what happened to me and my dr never told me what was going to happen It was in December I had to have the air-conditioned on and I still didn't know I was surgery in menopause I want many years without any help I thought I was just going to die because of the hot flashes and night sweating so mad I had to change the bed and take a bath So two years ago I started HRT Night sweating is gone and hot flashes are gone but I had bleeding and I had a CD surgery and I started spotting again And I have a very bad gut so I'm having trouble we some side troubles like can happen with taking the pills So what do you think is going on? Is it dangerous to take a combination of oral estradiol and the cream? I am in the US. My cream is .25 mg combo of estradiol, progesterone, testosterone and dhea. I also take .3 mg oral estradiol and 100 mg prometrium before bed.
Interested to know, would a .05mg transdermal patch along with 100mg Prometrium be a typical/recommended prescription dose for a post menopausal woman (within the 10 year window) just beginning HRT?
It is a typical NHS starting dose yes. It may or may not be a therapeutic dose for you, ie giving you optimal symptom relief. That is why treatment needs to be individualised and sometimes it has to be adjusted a couple of times to find the right dose for you.
Question for you, would an 89 year old woman with full blown osteoporosis having mild to severe pain all over body still benefit from HRT or is it too late? Thanks in advance for your time & help.
Thanks for this useful information! I have a question regarding progesterone. I've just started HRT amonth ago and I feel good with oestrogens. The issue is for progesterone. It makes me sleepy all day long and the day after. It stops my digestion and it's not sustainaible. I opened the capsule to put around 25 mg vaginaly, but I still have side effects, even they are lowered. Is there a form of progesterone that has lower side effects ? Nobody seems to talk about it.

It doesn't happen to me anymore (I have a methane SIBO but feel better) My doctor has just prescribed me a different active ingredient (Not bio identical P) and it's a tablet I have to swallow. She told me to take a quarter of the normal dose. I have to get it to the pharmacy and try. I hope it will work without the side effects and that you will find a alternative too.

Thank you for such an informative video. I've started HRT because of your awesome information. Unfortunately I can't take the progesterone tablet because I am vegan (for 39 years) and the outer shell is made up of gelatin. I'm temporarily on Estrodial only ( which made me feel completely emotionally stable again!) however now have the choice between the Mirena coil or the combined patch. I'm just wondering which has the best effects on mental/ bone/ brain health. Are you able to please do a video on this if you are unable to answer here? I'm really looking at trying to give myself the best outcomes as I age. I still have so much to do which I need my brain and body for..... including attempting my first marathon. I turn 50 in a couple of days. Thank you for everything you do :)
One thing I'd say is the combined patch, if it doesn't suit you, can be stopped immediately by the user if it doesn't suit. The IUS, if you have any problems, needs a clinic appointment to get removed so you may have to wait, and there is sometimes pushback from clinicians not wanting to remove it and pressurising women to keep it in.
Be leery of IUD’s, most of them have a synthetic progestin, NOT natural progesterone. If you have a uterus you must take progesterone with the estradiol. Bioidentical progesterone can be compounded in a vegetarian capsule
What did you decide to do? My progestin is 0.35 mg norethindrone, a low-dose progestin-only-pill that is also approved for endometrial protection. Also covered by insurance.

Luckily it only affected my left arm and leg and I'm working on getting the movement back. Is it true that I can't go on Estradiol if I've already had a stroke?
Im in the USA and I believe that Premarin is still the HRT Dr.s prescribe alot. I can't do it because of the cruelty to horses to make this drug. But am curious if the hormones you are speaking of are readily available in the US? and are they truly safe?
Bioidentical estradiol is available in the US in pills, patches, gels, and vaginal cream. FDA approved and covered by insurance. Premarin is CEE (conjugated equine estrogen) and was the estrogen given in the debunked WHI study.
In the US, we are not offered less than micronized progesterone 100mg capsule. I got severe dizziness and drowsiness with this and gave up. Does vaginal use eliminate this? The drs are unwilling to prescribe a low compounded dose and I was told vaginal use was not proven. I feel like even though i don't have a uterus, that all hormones are important. I've been on estrogen patch only for over a year but still having bad symptoms, hot flashes, moodiness, anxiety, sleep trouble. What does someone like me do?
The Mirena coil is NOT progestone!! It is progestin! The difference is HUGE, both in terms of effect & safety. It drives me crazy when I hear health professionals use the two terms interchangeably when they are very much NOT. Look up Dr Lara Briden, she is fantastic. The mirena destroyed my life. Please, don't use it 🙏 I wish I knew all, that I know now, 9 years on.
I love your work and your enthusiasm but my question is, why do you charge such high prices at your clinic compared to others that are also private? Your consultancy prices and prescription prices are extortionate and in my opinion you are exploiting women who really need your help but cannot afford it. Dr Newson, even though you are not able to operate under the NHS, money is money and all we want is our hormones back without going on to debt to get them. I'm sure this question will be removed.
I think you should ask that question to the NHS and why they didn't let her open a clinic inside the NHS years ago. Politicians don't care about our health, so complain with them. Newson Clinic is one of the few that offer a Dexa scan, do you think that is cheap? I am saving, not spending in bars or dinner outs, and I am planning to go to the clinic as soon as possible. I don't blame them because I understand that having a private clinic is expensive. I blame the NHS for not giving us the answers we are searching for. Women are still invisible in our society.

I really enjoy your videos. They are helping me navigate my own perimenopause. Something I would love to learn more about is whether you can take progesterone both vaginally and orally at the same time. For example, I do well with 100 mg orally because it helps anxiety yet more than 100mg gives me symptoms however I need it vaginally to decrease menstrual flow due to low ferritin levels. I heard you say many times you can take it orally with the Mirena iud so I would assume it is fine to take it both orally and vaginally but have not heard anyone discuss this. For your list of things to talk about could you discuss the Wiley method or rhythm method of Hrt? My NP has just suggested me taking Hrt 5 days a week and not for two days a week saying it helps to down regulate receptors and create a better system response.
This makes sense to me however she also prescribed 80/20 Estriol/estradiol and what I can deduce this is not really being prescribed anymore as it’s such a weak form of estrogen…? Thank you penny

Hi Dr Louise Newson I love the work you are doing educating people about the menopause. I started her 2 years ago and increased my estrogen to 3 to 4 pumps per day but I noticed my appetite increase and I have put on 7 kg in weight. It is upsetting as I lift very heavy weights 3 times a week and I walk briskly 2 hours per day which I've done for 20 years as I am now 50. I've lowered my oestrogel to 1 pump per day but I'm still finding it difficult to lose the weight. Also I eat a low carb diet with lots of protein and healthy fats so it would be great if you could suggest what I need to do? Thanks from Oonagh

You asked for ideas for topics that could be useful - as HRT is adjusted and sometimes initially prescribed too, according to symptoms, what can people do when they have conditions that cause all of the symptoms anyway e.g. ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis = chronic fatigue syndrome), fibromyalgia, which are conditions that are not rare, frequently ignored, and also more prevalent in women than men so there are a lot of women suffering...thanks ! How would HRT be adjusted, would it be useful having levels and how to interpret them? etc
When I’ve taken the micronized pro pill orally, it makes me very dizzy the next day. My doctor never mentioned trying it vaginally. Instead, I pay for compounded progestins capsule.
Iv just been prescribed HRT I’m on continuous progesterone because I’m 2 years post menopause however I’m still confused and concerned if I take it without a break or have the 3 day break.
I’d rather not have a bleed but if my womb lining needs to shed any buildup from the oestrogen then that’s fine but I’d just rather avoid bleeding so I’m wondering if it’s safe to take progesterone every day along with my oestrogen without any breaks?
I am 58. I started on HRT (gel and progesterone) in spring 2020. At the time I heard that progesterone can adversely affect mood and so I opted to administer vaginally and despite my age I continue to take it cyclically, therefore having a regular bleed every month. This suits me although I realise most women would think this was crazy! I wonder if there is any reason why I should change to continuous or if I am ok as I am indefinitely.
In her books Suzanne Somers interviewed the cutting edge doctors in the USA, specializing in HRT, many agreed that cyclical is more physiological, it mimics Nature, while continuous application puts a woman in a state of pregnancy, which is not natural and can have adverse side effects.
Every ‘expert’ says something different, some menopause experts like Menopause Taylor (gynaecologist on UA-cam) says continuous is better to prevent breast changes, she says the more cycles you have in your life the higher your risk of breast cancer. But other experts say sequential/cyclical is best.

Why is that Estrogen doses vary based on the woman, but micronized progesterone is always 100 mcg? It would seem that a lower (or higher) dose could also be efficacious? Why is this always constant for every woman. Happy to see your own channel! 🙂
Progesterone isn’t static but is often balanced by the level of estrogen you need to manage your symptoms. If you aren’t sleeping adequately chances are your progesterone isn’t high enough (it makes you sleepy which is why you take it before bed). Your dosing is relative to your self reporting of symptoms and so requires multiple appointments to determine whether you need or want a higher or lower dose based in results. Remember it’s YOU driving the bus so it’s a good idea to chart your symptoms and be vocal with your doctor. I went from minor relief at the lowest dose to about 95% relief of all issues. I started at .05mg E and 100mg P. After laddering up and communicating about what my
Mother and aunt take, I ended up at 2mg E and 200mg P. I also take testosterone for confidence and muscle building and that’s 0.75gm. Testosterone is perhaps the most overlooked as it totally drops off for women and we have more of it than any other sex hormone during our fertility years.

I'd love a video on partial hysterectomy causing premenopause. I had my uterus removed 3 years ago and I've felt menopause symptoms ever since but because I have my ovaries they will not give me hormones.
Hysterectomy, even partial, disrupts the blood supply to the ovaries. They can regain function but don’t always make a complete recovery. You may benefit from Testosterone, Estradiol and Progesterone.
Thank you so much for the informative video I m in perimenopause and have pco also still my cycle is every 2 4 days I changed 3 obg the second gave me ciclacur valerian estradiol oral 2 mg and it has also 10 brown pills progesterone 0.5 mg and then I stop for 7 days and period arrives. I live a miracle I started sleeping again my concentration came back.. Second obg said take outrogestan 200 mg for 12 to 14cdays because the brown pills is synthetic.. Along with estradiol I take progesterone for 12 days? And then stop again for a week? Third obg said start patches evorel sequi 50 but I saw in the patches it's only 0.50 mg every 24 hours of estradiol. I m feeling so well with the pills now.. I m 44 years old with no history of blood clots or anything else. I have heart palpitations for 3 years now and take lopressor. Everyone is saying pills will produce blood clots in liver. I m lost.. In Greece we don't have a lot of pharmaceutical choices patches are so hard to find.. Evorel ce 100 is nowhere.. What can I do? I don't want to lower the dose of estradiol.. Is outrogestan biodentical a lot better from synthetic progesterone? Can you give me any clue? I m 44 years old and raising a 6 year old son and having a mother with altzheimer thank you

I have a GP (UK) appointment this afternoon, where I will, once again, ask for HRT. It has been refused in the past due to a heart problem and weight gain. Every case has to be evaluated by a serious professional, but I know people which have been given HRT after having had blood cloth or even oncological problems , change the doctor until you find one like the great doctor Louise which evaluates all aspects and prioritize mental and phisical well Beeing of the patients . Hi Dr. Nelson, I had my gall bladder removed when I was in my early twenties, I am perimenopausal and was given Everol Sequi patches 3.2mg. Day one and I had terrible nausea. Does a lack of a gall bladder create problems? My NHS clinic say they don’t have body identical hrt and can’t give me the spray which was my first choice. Any thoughts? Thank you.

I had colon rectal cancer in Ovaries. 2001 with that surgery my Ovaries
So you know what happened to me and my dr never told me what was going to happen
It was in December I had to have the air-conditioned on and I still didn't know I was surgery in menopause
I want many years without any help I thought I was just going to die because of the hot flashes and night sweating so mad I had to change the bed and take a bath
So two years ago I started HRT
Night sweating is gone and hot flashes are gone but I had bleeding and I had a CD surgery and I started spotting again
And I have a very bad gut so I'm having trouble we some side troubles like can happen with taking the pills
So what do you think is going on?

Is it dangerous to take a combination of oral estradiol and the cream? I am in the US. My cream is .25 mg combo of estradiol, progesterone, testosterone and dhea. I also take .3 mg oral estradiol and 100 mg prometrium before bed.
Interested to know, would a .05mg transdermal patch along with 100mg Prometrium be a typical/recommended prescription dose for a post menopausal woman (within the 10 year window) just beginning HRT?
It is a typical NHS starting dose yes. It may or may not be a therapeutic dose for you, ie giving you optimal symptom relief. That is why treatment needs to be individualised and sometimes it has to be adjusted a couple of times to find the right dose for you.

The issue is for progesterone. It makes me sleepy all day long and the day after. It stops my digestion and it's not sustainaible.
I opened the capsule to put around 25 mg vaginaly, but I still have side effects, even they are lowered.
Is there a form of progesterone that has lower side effects ? Nobody seems to talk about it.

@@ummtaimann6819 Thanks for your message. Indeed, I was extremely bloated (As if I was 6 months pregnant). It doesn't happen to me anymore (I have a methane SIBO but feel better)
My doctor has just prescribed me a different active ingredient (Not bio identical P) and it's a tablet I have to swallow. She told me to take a quarter of the normal dose. I have to get it to the pharmacy and try.
I hope it will work without the side effects and that you will find a alternative too.
I had the same side effects. My progestin is 0.35 mg norethindrone, a low-dose progestin-only-pill that is also approved for endometrial protection.

Progesterone intolerance is real. I learned so much about it from the Menopause Matters forum. It is called Utrogestan in the UK.

Unfortunately I can't take the progesterone tablet because I am vegan (for 39 years) and the outer shell is made up of gelatin. I'm temporarily on Estrodial only ( which made me feel completely emotionally stable again!) however now have the choice between the Mirena coil or the combined patch. I'm just wondering which has the best effects on mental/ bone/ brain health. Are you able to please do a video on this if you are unable to answer here? I'm really looking at trying to give myself the best outcomes as I age. I still have so much to do which I need my brain and body for..... including attempting my first marathon. Get a compounded cream that absorbs through your skin. They can actually put all 3 estrogen/progesterone/testosterone in this one cream
One thing I'd say is the combined patch, if it doesn't suit you, can be stopped immediately by the user if it doesn't suit. The IUS, if you have any problems, needs a clinic appointment to get removed so you may have to wait, and there is sometimes pushback from clinicians not wanting to remove it and pressurising women to keep it in.
Be leery of IUD’s, most of them have a synthetic progestin, NOT natural progesterone. If you have a uterus you must take progesterone with the estradiol. Bioidentical progesterone can be compounded in a vegetarian capsule

Luckily it only affected my left arm and leg and I'm working on getting the movement back. Is it true that I can't go on Estradiol if I've already had a stroke?

Im in the USA and I believe that Premarin is still the HRT Dr.s prescribe alot. I can't do it because of the cruelty to horses to make this drug. But am curious if the hormones you are speaking of are readily available in the US? and are they truly safe?
Bioidentical estradiol is available in the US in pills, patches, gels, and vaginal cream. FDA approved and covered by insurance.
Premarin is CEE (conjugated equine estrogen) and was the estrogen given in the debunked WHI study.

In the US, we are not offered less than micronized progesterone 100mg capsule. I got severe dizziness and drowsiness with this and gave up. Does vaginal use eliminate this? The drs are unwilling to prescribe a low compounded dose and I was told vaginal use was not proven. I feel like even though i don't have a uterus, that all hormones are important. I've been on estrogen patch only for over a year but still having bad symptoms, hot flashes, moodiness, anxiety, sleep trouble. What does someone like me do?

The Mirena coil is NOT progestone!! It is progestin!
The difference is HUGE, both in terms of effect & safety. It drives me crazy when I hear health professionals use the two terms interchangeably when they are very much NOT. Look up Dr Lara Briden, she is fantastic. The mirena destroyed my life. Please, don't use it 🙏 I wish I knew all, that I know now, 9 years on.
I love your work and your enthusiasm but my question is, why do you charge such high prices at your clinic compared to others that are also private? Your consultancy prices and prescription prices are extortionate and in my opinion you are exploiting women who really need your help but cannot afford it. Dr Newson, even though you are not able to operate under the NHS, money is money and all we want is our hormones back without going on to debt to get them. I'm sure this question will be removed.
I think you should ask that question to the NHS and why they didn't let her open a clinic inside the NHS years ago. Politicians don't care about our health, so complain with them. Newson Clinic is one of the few that offer a Dexa scan, do you think that is cheap? I am saving, not spending in bars or dinner outs, and I am planning to go to the clinic as soon as possible. I don't blame them because I understand that having a private clinic is expensive. I blame the NHS for not giving us the answers we are searching for. Women are still invisible in our society.
