I buy myself luxurious pajamas this time of year. Taking time to breathe and slow down is great advice, especially this time of the year. People put higher expectations on themselves because they feel pressure to make things perfect for other people. No one is going to love you any less if your stuffing isn’t the best they have ever had. Have a happy Thanksgiving with your family and friends.
Now that I am retired and the kids are gone, I live alone. I TOTALLY take advantage of this and fully enjoy all the Christmas things that I love, but that my family doesn't. I found a local radio station that plays Christmas music 24/7. I love it! I have been having Christmas cake (fruit cake) for dessert every night!
Sounds like fun I giggled when you said we called it cheese and crackers enjoy the time with your daughter ❤️I really have to let people bring thing and make it more pot luck as long as I have Christmas and use my good dishes and silver from my mom I’m happy 🎄Thanks Laura always love your suggestions ❤️🥂
Thanks Helen, I’m the same. Look forward to using my Grandmas silver and china. I set the table a few days early just so I can enjoy it. Happy Thanksgiving🦃
Very good advice to enjoy the season. We ought to follow that advice throughout the year a few times. We often put way too much pressure on ourselves to get things done perfectly and forget it should be fun and joyful to decorate and bake.
So yesterday, I took my 23 yr old daughter to a Christmas craft sale. She was actually a vendor there. She makes jewelry on the side. So the Christmas music was playing and I just left. I didn't want to be a part of all that. I did Christmas baking, and I find I'm more in a good space when I'm concentrating on something. I just couldn't take all the happy ppl and music. My thing that I do every single year is I go from store to store (Michaels, homesense the mall etc) and I snoop at all the Christmas things, maybe buy an ornament but I just spend the whole day snooping around the mall, the stores, having a treat or some lunch etc. I might only come home with a couple of tiny things or maybe nothing at all, but I had the best time just not worrying about what time I need to be home, etc. I also LOVE snooping at the thrift stores as well. Even though I am a huge broke a$$ this year, haha! I'm still going out even if I spend 2.00 on something tiny.😂 Happy Holidays, everyone!
LOVE ‘window shopping’ just roaming the aisles. I did Home Sense(we just got one here) TJ Max and Home Store today, only bought a Christmas puzzle, but loved just browsing and how fun to do a craft fair(even for a little while, I wish we had more of those here, but yes they get hectic
@@laurahillauthor yes I'm up in Northern Ontario Canada and we have craft fairs like that all the time throughout the year. My daughter actually is doing another one just a small one at a local store for a few hours in a week.
I just thought of something that I'm going to do, and I had to comment. So aside from the gifts, doing a Christmas puzzle, maybe having a game night, etc. I decided that I'm going to get some really nice writing paper and I am going to sit down and hand write a letter to each of my kids and my daughter-in-law and my husband. The little card that you, Laura, received gave me this idea. I thought it would be really nice to let my kids know how much I'm proud of them and how much appreciated they are. I'm sure they will keep that letter and cherish it. At least they'd better 😂 So that's another idea for those of us who are struggling and trying to come up with ideas. 🎉
I actually wrote a list called “Christmas traditions I can stomach”. I have a beautiful Xmas reef I’m putting on my front door 🚪 on Dec 1st. That’s it! No other tacky decorations! The fancy cheese 🧀 and cracker class sounds fun. It sounds like something I could handle.

I forgot, I like bringing out my red and white striped candy cane PJ’s during the week of Xmas.
Yes to the PJs! I do the same exact thing. Happy Thanksgiving🦃

I hate listening to Christmas carols before December. I avoid places like Starbucks that belt them out during November.
@@MsActor2009 I agree. I get kind of weary of the Christmas music...so I give myself permission to skip those places (as much as possible).
If I could create a law, I would mandate no Christmas carols before December. Dean&Delucca are another store that belt them out way too early.
