To hear someone SO incredibly intellectual....get legitimately choked up over describing how he's seen fathers and sons restore their relationships....it just shows how genuine Peterson is. He truly cares. The fact that people attack him makes me sad.

Not everyone is accepting of truth and good. Many people are afraid of change or trusting in truths that are unknown to them, with good reason. I agree. It chokes me up to see him get choked up about things he’s passionate about. But also it could be because I agree with his views and can relate. It makes sense to me and probably a lot of people. But it’s harder to believe when it’s someone we disagree with or can’t relate to so we should hesitate to dismiss those tears as well. But some times it is very obvious when someone is just being manipulative like a lot of children do to get what they want. I think everyone can agree people are complex and mysterious and all the psychological studies in the world can’t predict all human interactions. Not saying it’s not important, but like all science, there limitations and errors that should be emphasized more to the general public.
I think his tears are sincere. Just as sincere as those tears Christ himself shed for his people who would betray him.
Jordan is a force of absolute good. You can hear it in his voice, see it in the tears in his eyes. He is trying to make the world a better place.

You can only see that brokenness in his voice and almost tears going down while JBP comes to his mind his own experiences and thats why is so real original in his expression and try ro do whatever he can to help people.

This interview is a history maker. Perfect setting and very articulated on both sides. It’s cool to see someone on the Canadian side standing up as well. Exactly. After watching so many transgender people talk openly about their de-transitioning, everything the go through, how they are used by the medical community it makes me feel for them too. You are right, it is the imposition of the radical transgenders what bothers most people. A minority having power over the language we use and over how they want us to see our reality according to how they perceived themselves. It is crazy.

I grew up as a "tom boy" in the 90s and early 2000s. My parents and community didn't encourage masculinity nor pressure me to be more feminine. Just let me be a kid and love the body that I'm in. They knew back that most individuals were in a phase in life.
Today it's the hot topic of the current generation, when kids should be focused on academics, developing useful skills and having fun while doing so.
Main problem with gender politics really is how narrow their view implicates to be by needing a new gender-term to categorize. In fact, it's all just about categorization, splitting different personality types into new genders and taking those as "identitites". It's pretty obvious where the fatal flaw in this is, even if everyone would agree that this is the correct view, it would be utopian if it would work.
That whole radical-left stuff is actually just a giant missed opportunity to simply encourage males and females to be whichever person they want, moving away from stereotypical feminine/masculine - cause almost no person is like 100% of either and being more masculine than feminine doesn't disqualify you as a woman in any way. This message is probably the start of the whole movement and.. it made a lot more sense back then.
This is truly amazing to witness. Two brilliant minds sitting down and having a civillized conversation. You can see that they both respect eachother and are willing to learn. They both seem so interested in what the other person is trying to say. These two should be an example to today's generation.
Jordan has a brilliant mind. Ben is smart but not brilliant.
Unfortunately people will never do that. Logic and common sense has been long gone and people today rely on purely emotion.
As a psychologist the part if "you are bigger than your fears, not that the fears are trivials" is the best way to explain a big part of a good therapy.
So if I have a fobia (I have one and I hate it, I don't like the idea I can't have control over my feelings) I must think that I am bigger?

All fears could be overcome by confronting it, even death. But to be not afraid of death, you have to confront death. But sadly in that case, you would die, but you would not be afraid of death anymore though.

Peterson was getting really emotion at the end. It’s just wild to me, that some people hate him simply because of political bias. He’s one of the few people that is genuinely trying to help people.
As a transgender individual with some different beliefs, I can safely say that this was one of the most educational and intellectual conversations I have ever seen. It’s so interesting seeing different peoples beliefs on things such as gender! Well done!

12 mins in when Peterson's emotional response to the father's and sons who've stopped him in the street and thanked him, I really felt that. I was taken right back to the most challenging time of my life, to a moment when the stress between my son and I was at breaking point, and the moment the stress cracked and and we hugged in tears and relief as the sadness drained out of us. Peterson may have many critics, he may be disliked, but for me and my family he is an absolute hero who grew to prominence exactly when the world needed his voice.

Seeing Jordan get a little choked up toward the end really got me. Made me see he is someone who truly cares about improving peoples lives and relationships.
He's had a helluva' ride these last few years. One minute you're teaching at university and 200 of your colleagues are signing a document to have you fired, the next minute a stranger approaches you on the street and tearfully gushes with gratitude for saving their life from ruin. Those smiles he talked about are really who he is, and what he does. Bill C16 and all the crap that surrounded it was a terribly emotional experience for him. As well, he and his whole family went through some medical issues, each one very serious. He's been emotional at other times, but it was always when speaking of the gratitude people have expressed towards him for helping them with their lives. He certainly deserves it.

I don't think I've ever seen Jordan describe Fathers and Sons that tell him how he's helped them WITHOUT getting teary eyed. Every time he's every brought it up, that happens. The man genuinely cares about helping people and making their lives better. Yet so many people try to make him out to be some sort of pure evil, it's just absurd.

I think it's because it validates his struggle, both with health and speaking his truth. He holds the light of truth as the most import thing, and he'll wade through filth to keep it shining. When someone says his light showed them the way, it proves him to be right, and that his struggle is worthwhile. We see it when we look into his eyes. His zeal hardens with meaning with each success.
That attribution of evil stems simply from his questioning of their world view too. That's the crazy part. Merely questioning it and not providing unfettered love and support for whatever they can drum up in their minds that day is an act of evil to them. It's wild man.

@@RKO1988 Ben was frustrated in that interview because he received multiple loaded questions. IMO the host was passive aggressive and NOT well-mannered because he kept asking accusatory, biased questions. Otherwise known as loaded questions.
For example if I asked you, “Why are you a bigot?” That’s less of a question and more of an attack under the guise of a question. You’d be rightfully frustrated if I continued doing this. And that’s what happened with Ben in that specific interview.
Moving on.
Now I’ve seen over 50 different interviews, podcasts, conversations, etc. where Ben was well-mannered & respectful, including this video. If you want to make the argument that Ben was poorly mannered in that BBC video, that’s fine. But to judge him based off of 1 interview when there are hundreds of other interviews/shows/podcasts/conversations/videos conflicting your statement, is ignorant and nonsensical of you. Because there are plenty of examples of Ben being cordial when the interviewer is also being respectful.

My struggle is that everyone thinks I’m a closeted gay, which I’m not. My conservative parents are terrified I’m keeping it a secret, while my more liberal friends and siblings are frustrated I’m not being “who I really am”. It creates a lot of tension. And that’s just sexual orientation, gender identity becomes even _more_ convoluted. And massive groups of people are embroiled in that debate.
All I know is we cannot sustain a society that doesn’t internally agree how many genders there are. Both ideologies are incompatible, and one side will eventually eat the other.
I can't help but wonder what would happen if you played that section of this video for your parents and discussed it with them, and if you did the same with your friends. I'm thinking this might help all those people understand you much better and cherish you for who you really are.

I appreciate your concern very much, but don’t worry about me. That kind of thing doesn’t bother me anymore. It _used_ to, when I was a teenager. Since then I’ve realized that I’m much happier when I just do what I want to do, instead of worrying how masculine or feminine it appears to the people around me. As far as I figure, that’s *their* issue.
What DOES bother me is the policing of language in society, like how saying the wrong pronouns can be taken as misgendering and a hate crime. It reminds me of George Orwell’s 1984, and that’s very disturbing to me.

Jordan Peterson's communication ability is off the charts. Under control, thoughtful, descriptive, logical, and as real as it gets.
Yea and he actually acknowledges gender exists as a separate psychosocial phenomenon from biological sex whereas Ben Shapiro sounds like he's always upset and thinks that sex and gender are the same thing. But yea it's always a privilege listening to Jordan Peterson talk. I feel like you can ask him any possible question on any possible topic and he will respond with a valid intellectual answer.
However, conversion therapy is wrong because you cannot change someone's gender or sexual orientation through therapy because there is a biological component in the brain which makes sense because the brain affects psychology.
Except for the part where he talks and doesn't allow someone to respond. Other than that he is great and I am a big fan of him. Glad to see him healthy.

They don't understand that without the presence of testosterone in the womb, the embryo develops by default as a female. They don't understand that the Y chromosome's main function is to trigger the release of testosterone in the womb so that male genitals form instead of female genitals; that this occurs early in the pregnancy whereas the influence of testosterone on brain development occurs late in pregnancy when its presence or absence can create a sexual dichotomy between body and brain. These facts are scientifically supported, and yet, they are rarely brought up or acknowledged in the transgender debate.

Most people who try to go vegan end up eating meat again, because they can't find a way to stay healthy without it. The reason I love Jordan so much the more I watch him, is how honest he is. He's honest with himself. He isn't afraid to show us his emotions. When I heard him speak about his struggles with life, his wife... I couldn't help but tear up. He's gone through enough to understand how it feels to be really down and have what many consider bad luck.

Trans women here, which just means that I was a male that altered my body and take hormones to continuously alter my brain chemistry and body, I get that.
There is a level of the social aspect that'snot being touched on here. There are a lot of implicit rules to the way society functions that I think people are trying to distinguish but they're doing a very poor job of it in the LGBT. Then you have to couple that with very young people being self-assured that they know what is right, like most young people do and tend to think.
You are your biological sex, obviously, but I think before it got out of hand, the point of gender being different was to show people or give people a view into the mind of the person and how they wish to be treated in society.
You see it a lot, where you'll have people that are bigoted against homosexuals, or trans people like myself, say since you're a man; even though you've been taking this medication because you like to alter your body in this way and it makes you very similar to a female in muscle mass and all the rest of this, I can still punch you or hurt you or hit you because you're technically a man. Nothing that that's the root of the problem in general, people making justifications for committing crimes or being terrible to other human beings simply because of label.
And I think we've missed the mark all together, because we do separate who is able to have rights and who is not. Look at third wave and 4th wave feminism and what it's done to the country, we all know that a girl can punch a guy in the face and it's perfectly fine, but two guys fighting; and nobody bats an eye. This in itself isn't right, if you put your hands on somebody you should go to prison.. but we all know this is not the way that society works. These are the implicit pieces, at least a few of them that I don't see them talking about.
The problem with the LGBT community is that they don't believe or say that they don't and don't want to believe in the way society is structured but they keep trying to play mental gymnastics in order to rationalize their way of thinking to minimize this type of encounter or justification for violence and treatment within the confines of the structure of our society. So in a way they don't like the system but they keep playing and trying to manipulate the system rather than just disregarding it entirely, which makes those that do this look like fools.
This is woven in on itself, and has so many variables to it. I get what they're saying, a lot of the things that they're saying is absolutely true, but it's being discussed in a very secluded niche aspect of reality.
Technically I am a man from a biological standpoint, which is just a word for somebody that has a penis and x and y; and develops particular characteristics to some degree more than others, chromosomes nothing more nothing less. That should have no bearing on what you're allowed to do to me in society and what is justified. We want equality right?
But the treatment in society of how a man is supposed to be treated, or what a man is supposed to do, and how a woman is supposed to be treated, and what a woman is supposed to do is the thing that I think lgbtq people wanted to dismantle, but they let it run away with themselves and have got caught up in their own delusions and ridiculousness which spiraled from a decent goal. Which was to dismantle treating somebody a particular way because of some label.
Now we have a bunch of the lgbtq community that totally deny that biological sex exist in order to play this game with other people... It is complete insanity and nonsense, and this is coming from a trans woman, I absolutely understand that.
They're taking the wrong avenue with it, and the loudest most extreme of us are the ones that get heard and that's what everybody labels us.
The initial interpretation, just because I am born biologically male doesn't give you a right to fist fight me because I'm a male, I don't have to have children, I don't have to be the head of a household, I don't have the dress with pants, I can dress in a skirt and blouse, or have a high tone voice, or I don't have to congregate with other men in a social way simply because I happen to have the same genitalia. The whole point was separate your biological sex from the way that you manifest yourself in society, but like I said above all of that is gone because we have young people that think they know what they're talking about, and they're able to be the loudest spokespeople for our movement which makes us look like mouth breathers.
And it's kind of not fair, because if the same thing was true with any other young person in any other faction, you would see their asinine way of thinking; and disregard it. But they don't get as much screen time, they don't get as much attention because people realize that young people are inept and don't know much because they have very little experience and wisdom.
What we have here is two wise people, not necessarily right, not necessarily wrong, but intelligent and wise mature older individuals talking about the thought processes and belief systems of 16 and 20 year olds; and taking it as a serious argument.
And it's not the fault of the 16 and 20 year olds, it's the fault of the media and the way that the government wants to go in order to make a dollar and appeal to the masses. You have to think about that, it is people with a lot more power giving credence to these people with ridiculous views..

Do you remember when you were 16, playing a video game, did anybody care what you thought, did the government and the media go out of their way to cater to your way of thinking, absolutely not, so why is it happening for the lgbtq, because that's the plan. It's a marketing ploy, it's people with more power than us choosing to focus on the younger of the lgbtq that don't know what they're talking about and run their mouth constantly.
If I took some extremist conservative 16-year-old's point of view and put that on a pedestal and say look this is the spokesperson for all conservative people, you wouldn't take me seriously would you, so why do you do it when there's 16 year old lgbtq people spotting nonsense and take it as if it's all of our way of thinking. It's not us giving them the power it's the government and the media they're giving the power to children that know nothing.
I think your comment is very worth reading, and I'm very interested in that "Trans" topic because, as a social worker, I work with kids and teenagers from difficult family backgrounds - and I'm increasingly dealing with young people who come out as "trans", especially girls, who suddenly identify as boys. And I don't understand it. I ask myself: What the hell is going on? It seems to me that being "trans" is becoming some kind of subculture for young people. As a trans woman, what do you think about that? I have to admit that I find it very difficult to empathize with a trans person. How does it feel to be "trans"? While I'm not a typical man either, rather close to what Jordan Peterson calls "gender fluid" or "creative person", I've never had any doubts that I'm a man. For me personally, "doing gender" is like acting in a theater role - a game, nothing serious. I have no problem imitating women or acting unmasculine - just for fun. I can't explain what it's like for every trans person, and I likely can't explain it very well, but I can try. As much as you have never doubted you were a man, if I had been able to grow up in a society which accepted me and let me be myself I think I would have known I was a man from the start too. The thing is, being feminine or masculine is a very loose and vague way to gauge being trans. I'm not trans because I like masculine things. I like masculine things because I was affected the same way society affects all boys, because I internally understood myself as a boy. When I was told boys don't like pink, I followed. My physical dysphoria then manifested into social dysphoria (e.g. disliking being called she) because it reminded me of how displaced I am in society. Now though, I'm much more comfortable with feminine things
As for you saying trans has turned into a subculture, I nearly agree with you there. This is an issue that covers many things actually. We see kids faking mental illness and neurodivergence as well. The solution isn't to shame a person though, as not only do confused people deserve compassion but it also makes them defensive. We can't ever truly know who is "really" trans (though I don't think there is such a thing as a true trans person) so I think the only option is to encourage people to be themselves. And by that, I don't mean encourage people to transition, but to accept themselves which may or may not mean transitioning in the end. If being those things isn't seen as special, then it won't have the allure which draws younger kids in. Because you see, gender dysphoria is incredibly painful. Even if it was true and someone could "develop" it or "turn trans" it's been proven for transitioning to lessen the pain. I don't want anyone to have to transition, but for some, it's a legitimate path. I know ever since I've started my transition I can finally see myself in the mirror

You can really see how hard Peterson is struggling at the end to keep from crying when discussing the fathers and sons that walk up to him on the street and thank him for helping them repair and renew their relationship. Its very uplifting and human.
After all these years of Jordan speaking with other political commentators I’m still impressed by his ability to listen. Most people who gain that level of notoriety will eventually begin to think and act as if their own opinions are the end all be all to whatever issue they’re speaking on. But Jordan has always and continues to show respect to whoever he’s talking to regardless of their political ideology. Bravo Jordan 👏 you have inspired an entire generation of free thinkers.
Yes this is something that stands out when I watch his interactions too. He listens attentively and makes sure that he acknowledges the points from the person across the table which may seem like a minor thing but it's actually so important.

I've noticed that too, even with people who haven't achieved any status. I've noticed that in myself, active listening really is a skill. Jordan has humility and empathy for people even if he doesn't agree with them and he seems like the type of person who is always willing to learn new things and challenge his own beliefs.

As therapist, have to say Ben's statement is incorrect "the only therapy proven to work is CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy)" - actually research shows the types of therapy actually produce similar outcomes, the model doesn't determine success - the universal factor that causes 'success' is the RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CLIENT AND THERAPIST. (CBT is very concerned with scoring and tracking, which businesses like, but it's misleading because doesn't account for long term success, only short term - and other models are harder to measure).

I completely agree. speaking for myself, when i was younger it was difficult for me to feel certain in my gender. Im a woman but i certainly dress masculine. And it always felt good when people mistook me for a guy. Looking back, i associated femininity with weakness and being a target because of early childhood trauma. I found comfort in dressing masculine because it made me feel strong. like the cool guys i would see in movies. I wanted to be them. i looked up to them. as i got older, i didn't know how to distinguish characteristics from gender because society was very certain that these aspects belonged to this gender and those aspects belonged to that gender. But as i grew up, i realised that my power and strength didn't come from the way i dressed. My masculine style didn't make me powerful nor did my femininity make me weak. in fact, the only thing masculine about me is probably my style of dress. my mind and energy is definitely feminine. and there is a huge strength in acknowledging the biological aspect of yourself.
When I was first exposed to transgender ideology in Social Theory, I asked my professor "why can't we just expand our understanding of the two genders instead of getting rid of them altogether?" And she basically called me small minded for wanting to keep the two genders. Thank you for sharing, I appreciate hearing this revelation is still acceptable

I adore Jordan. He's a brilliant man. I also feel bad for him. Someone as intelligent as him can't switch off. He FEELS everything.
As profound as some of this sounds, I’m guessing Jordan didn’t spend much time with his kids when they were young - that experience alone shows fears are learned, babies will go practically anywhere… you’re more daring and carefree when a kid unless you experience trauma, you become more careful and afraid the more you get conditioned into a teenager and to an adult. That’s when you see fears and issues manifest.
This discussion misses out the whole point we find gender difficult to navigate - it’s an outdated social construct designed and traditionally imposed on biological sex categories, when those attributes are not feminine or masculine, we’ve just been conditioned to associate personalities that way. The problem isn’t people dealing with gender the wrong way, the problem is the way gender has been historically constructed itself to associate with binary biological sex, and that we’ve been conditioned for generations to perceive, behave and conform that way.
Kudos to the coffee shop that gets these two coming through daily for these conversations….

I work right by this coffee shop and not long ago before this aired I came over during the day to just grab some coffee and the entire place had tons of vehicles and video production guys all around the whole outside. They told me the place was "closed for a private event". So I assume this is what was going on. Plus I've never once seen the guy running the coffee counter before.

I love how emotional Dr. Peterson can get. He’s not afraid to be vulnerable and authentic. It’s a wonderful reprieve from the fronting that is so commonplace on social media applications and in popular culture.

That's part if what they were discussing, the left has to attack anything that is not "Affirming". The modern left I believe is a mass manifestation of the "Oedipal Complex", the mother being the State/Government/Affirmation groups, you can see it as these groups continuously give affirmations and deny the underlying problem, which is lack of agency/responsibility. And these Affirmation groups use fear to keep them under their control.
