My 20yrs of being a stylish/colorist . I can definitely say I’ve experienced working with horrible assistants. It’s the WORST! Some people don’t have any work ethic. The worst is when the salon owner allows this type of behavior. At least yours got fired.
Very true!
After 27 years owning and 37 doing hair, nothing surprises me! Pet peeve of mine has always been clients not being greeted when they come in.
That’s super important! Every single person who comes in the door must be greeted! It makes a huge difference. They feel welcomed and it just shows them the salon atmosphere!
I just went from full time assistant to be given a chair at a super laid back, chill salon that wasn’t looking for an assistant. I’m a “later in life” stylist (licensed at 26) so maybe this is why I just can’t understand this girls behavior. Most of the stylists never had assistants and didn’t know how to utilize me, others knew because they’ve had some before or have been assistants in the past. But I wore (and still do) all different types of hats in the salon. The main receptionist left, so I took on that role while assisting. I’ve been the salons maid, appliance repair person, plumber, everything you can think of I’ve done for the salon. Even though it’s rather small, I barely have enough time to be on my phone because I’m always doing SOMETHING. And do you know what that got me? Being offered a raise, a chair, AND they said they’d pay for my extra education. Also- one of the owners paid a deposit to be a vendor at an EDM festival not too far from the city. She could bring 3 other stylists. But I was the first one she asked to join her. Even though I don’t know how to install dreadlocks, pinchbraids, and I’m not the best braider ever, she still chose me because she knew I’d work hard to learn those things by July.
So the moral of my story: if you are an assistant to a really cool salon that doesn’t really care about most things, don’t take advantage of that and instead learn and do everything you can to make yourself look good because SALONS WILL INVEST IN YOU IF YOU SEEM LIKE A WORTHY INVESTMENT
YOUR HAIR 😍😍 dude you look so good!
I couldn't imagine being Sam's assistant and not paying attention. Seriously. That's too bad.
And to think I offered my time to a salon who used me for a Christmas period with the promise of a apprenticeship! I went in for free and worked my ass off, never done that again.
Oh hell no! Not ok!!
Don’t feel bad. I did it too for a day. Never again
YAYY my favorite kind of videos! I LOVE your sit-down videos!!! 💕
Im currently an assistant at a salon I’ve been working at for 2 months now and I still have never received any free services because I care about my reputation & I believe that I need to fully demonstrate my strong work ethic before reaping the glamorous benefits of working at a salon! When you’re an assistant, that is the prime time to show what you’ve got and your passion for this field. When nurses are first starting out, they often times have to do the dirty work and clean eery bodily fluids and handle rather aggressive patients. They are given long night shifts before they can select their desired hours because you have to WORK your way to the top. In this time of being an assistant, I have realized that it is a necessary process to go through the “dirty work”, and if you really love this career you should be learning like a sponge absorbing new knowledge every day about not only hair but also the business & social side of it all as well.
100%!!!!!
okay so I have been interested in getting licensed to do hair but not sure if it would be a good fir, but after hearing this story time, I think I want to go and find a job to be a hair assistant! It sounds like things I would enjoy doing and I feel like it will give me the experience I would need to decide to go forward with it or not! Always appreciate your storytimes!💕
It's definitely a great way to see the reality of the job!
Wow girl! Literally I think that would irritate me because when I get hired I sometimes feel like I know I'm doing my job but sometimes if it's on a slower side I feel like I should be doing more so for her to be on her phone that's not good
I felt anxious clicking this video even tho I love you because I use to be an assistant and felt I was unfairly fired and of course my emotions jumped to wanting to depend the assistant cause I’ve been in a similar situation but after listening through I fully and completely get your point and view and why she got fired.
So this person essentially got a paid internship and she would eventually get free services? Oh my gawd I would be busting my butt I'd be cleaning sweepin cooking for yall answering the phone running to get everyone lattes I would feel so honored to even get the chance!
Your hair color and the color of your top are so flattering on you!
Hi Sam, I'm new to your channel. I found you because I was trying to make a decision if I has to get the Dyson hair dryer or not and I immediately loved your personality, genuine character and of course Benny. Of course, I ended up getting the Dyson and love it! now I'm planning to get the corrale 🙂. But I already watched more of your vids and love them!!! I also noticed you have a podcast which I already started following since I'm a podcast girl. Thank you!!!!!!!!! 💕💖
Love when you upload storytimes 😍 maybe future idea is more stories from beauty school?
I wish I had more to share, but I think I already told all my beauty school stories!
Im so sorry that you had to go through that and this person has a beautiful passion 😊
Good for you for having a talk with her. In a professional setting you have to confront those kind of people so they will know that their bad behaviour isn’t going to be tolerated. Obviously, she didn’t care so good riddance 😊
My husband's work had someone like that. Always coming late, always calling in sick, leaving early, did a couple of no call no shows, and got caught drunk driving, and proceeded to get a warrant for his arrest because he didn't even show up for his court hearing related to the drunk driving. I THINK they are finally getting around to firing this dipstick. People like that drive me crazy. And they never change, they are like that their whole life.
Wow. That's REALLY bad! Glad they're finally letting him go. That's too much lol
I admire your patience - I had some lazy trainees and assistants in the 20 years I work in the beauty industry, but none of them this bad. Usually I can tell right away if somone is fit for the job or not and I waste no time - if they don't want to work or learn they get kicked out.
Definitely! I wish I could have been there during her interview. I'd love to know what she said and how differently she acted in order to get the job in the first place...
hi Sam. sorry for having to go through that. interesting video. thanks for sharing. take care see u soon.
more stories please they’re so helpful!!
I have another one coming soon! :)
When I was a kid I would enjoy sweeping for the hairdresser 🤣 it was v satisfying collecting all my hair and binning it
LMAOO bless your patience with this girl
Yyeeeyy you’re back with storytimes!🎉🎉🎉🎉
It's so frustrating when people like her get these kinds of opportunities and take full advantage of it. I would have been ECSTATIC to be learning from yourself and your boss at the time. Even if you're not passionate about what you're doing it baffles me how lazy and disrespectful people can be. I love showing enthusiasm to those who are teaching me any new skill because it's just respectful and considerate to the teacher. I'm just sad that so many people don't have any consideration for others and they truly live in a self-absorbed bubble. Sam, your personality is killer and I would be over the moon if I was a student in cosmetology school and had the opportunity to learn from you. And the cherry on top is the little beeyotch was getting paid for it. Like how much better can you have it? So crazy lol
Sam, I'm very happy uploaded this video and I'm sorry that the assistant was not being helpful like she said she would which is all lip service 🙄 but I'm proud to be a subscriber since your beauty school days
Thank you for being here for so long! I definitely remember you and I appreciate you commenting a lot and always supporting!! :)
@@styledbysamvay thanks Sam 💙
I love your storyline even if I've never worked in your field.
I’ve been following you for over a year, and I absolutely love your stories about the hair world. Plus I think it’s so cool that you’re a cosmetologist named Sam and my SIL is also a cosmetologist named Sam and y’all are both pretty cool. 🙂
I love these kinda videos! It's fun to smoke up when watching lol!
I’ve missed these videos!!!
I have another one coming soon!!
ilysm sam!!! always supporting you. 🖤
Thank you!!!!! :)
Biggest complaint of SO many people I talk to these days are their fellow employees and the fact that they can not put their dang phone down. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
So annoying!
I feel you! It’s the worst
As a hair educator it’s the ones that complain they don’t learn in school that are the laziest. It’s always a red flag when I hear that.
Loved this 🎉 the story itself sucks of course bc you had to deal with that 😩on a positive note the audio and your voice sound great!!! love the whole setting
Thank you :)
Jesus you weren’t kidding about the WORST assistant! Sadly I’ve experienced this as well, but I was a receptionist at a couple different salons for years and I worked with these type of girls that just have absolutely no work ethic! Imagine all this, but she would come into work REEKING of weed, late all the time with a cup of Starbucks, and always trying to leave early. Horrible. Unfortunately it generally is the Gen Z kids that are like this. They hate their jobs and then they disappear when it’s too much work, not even giving notice anymore. Or they just get fired for not meeting expectations. It really is crazy that SHE sought out of the job and ended up being this bad!!
Agree with you 100 %
So true
people like that think their behavior is cute or charming when in reality it's just frustrating and eventually no one's going to want you around. no one wants to work with someone who just sits around and acts like they or their personality is so amazing it's worth not doing their part 🙄 she sounds like her parents told her she had to get a job or they'd cut her off and she figured beauty school would be an easy option to make money doing nothing and get free services.
YOUR HAIR 😍
The way I laughed throughout the entire story 😂
Definitely she should of been more willing to learn. When she shadowed you she should of been looking at what you were doing not her phone. Honestly I feel your manager should of like said leave phones in break room in your bag or leave in your car or something and not out on floor in salon. Also I completely understand greeting the guest/ customer is definitely the most important thing! Haven't worked in a salon but have worked retail and know this!
Love videos like these!!! You look beautiful girl!!
Thank you so much!!
Sorry you had to go through this! The assistant definitely did not show great work ethic and showed too much disinterest.
Super unprofessional!
Yay! I've missed the storytime videos
Love your story times ❤❤❤❤
Your hair is so 😍 what shampoo and conditioner do you use? What are your thoughts on Oribe gold lust line? ❤️
Thank you! Lately I've been using the Redken Color Extend shampoo and conditioner. I've never tried Oribe products, so I don't have an opinion on them.
I hate to generalize but I would say work ethic in the younger generation is an issue. They seem to think they should just be able to show up and somehow be granted all the privileges. I work in healthcare and we would have assistants (typically younger, college age people who were allegedly interested in working in the field one day) come to interviews sitting all the way back in the chairs super relaxed and not terribly engaged and all they wanted to talk about was how much leave they would accrue and what the pay was. Granted these things are important but you are trying to work with sick people and at some point going to need a recommendation for grad school so let’s try and at least try to act like you care about the job. Then of course you are constantly on them about the phones 🙄. It’s like they have zero concept of what professionalism looks like. After almost 20 years in the profession I have realized I’m just getting too old and maybe it’s a generational gap issue. It’s definitely very frustrating.
Totally agree! I've noticed that too.
Love your hair like this!!! ❤
Girl you're looking great! Just thought I'd let you know! Are you using a self tanner at all? If so, what brand is it? I need to know! Your complexion, hair, nails and eyes are on point and GLOWING! Keep slaying lady!
Thank you so much! No, I'm not.
I literally remember watching a vlog and seeing someone sitting in the back for the entire duration of your client’s appointment footage thinking…”who tf is that? Just sitting there like that?” 😩 awful
Lol omg I don't even remember that, but it probably was her!
Some people's work ethic is just atrocious😂
In Russia if you work as assistant you don’t earn money and often you should pay your hairstylist or boss for your practice as assistant 😅 It’s worst. I don’t know before that you can earn money on a position assistant in USA.
Omg...I hired a personal assistant. I had to keep taking my clients back to the bowl w color still on their scalps. No matter how much I told her to scrub she just patted their heads. Ugh. Fired. 😅
I can’t stand anyone just doing nothing but be on their phone. And then they get mad for being called out on it 🤦♀️ I love this set up btw!💗
Thank you! :)
Yay! I clicked real quick 😉💕
The way I would have love to work with you when I was in beauty school🤦🏽♀️
oh damn I’m early early 😂❤️
I have never been to beauty school or anything. But I am baffled at this😅 Where are her manners?
Lol right?! Like who raised her??
@@styledbysamvay I have no idea, I hope they aren’t proud😅🙈
Your lips look amazing!!!
Thank you!
How long was that trash in the salon?
Do you think she was actually a student or just thought she could get an easy job?
She definitely was attending that school, because I knew people that worked there at the time. She was just lazy lol
I felt like I was talking to one of my best friends at lunch. Keep these videos up 😂😂❤️
That’s really sad to see young people have such poor work ethic, attitude and such a dependency on their phones. I have worked with many other young people that have great work ethic so she was just clueless and obviously not very bright.
I would never do that to you
Wow! She missed a golden opportunity! As a cosmetology student myself (going on a few years, moved states, had to take a break) I have been struggling to find someone who wants a student assistant wheather because they legally can't pay a student to work in that capacity in our state or they don't see the need to hire a student. I would love to one day find a salon who's truly willing to take me under their wing & show me as much as they can about salon life! It's tough to hear of people who don't care getting great opportunities that they throw away when I'm so willing to work & my time hasn't come yet.
Totally agree!! I hope you find a good salon one day soon that offers tons of education! You sound like you'd be a dream assistant. :)
Can I please dm u on my hair page I have some questions about assistant
Oh heck no i would’ve just told her to go home
Courtney my old boss 😅 worked with her too !
That was the story? That was so anticlimactic 😂 she was young and lazy, I hope she did learn and grow! I don’t think it would be right to air out her career now or anything, sometimes hair or any career just isn’t it. Specially when you’re 18 or so. They don’t know any better
I'm going to laugh if she's one of your subscribers!
Hahaha oh boy! Hopefully not!
Well hopefully she finds what she was looking for
Ooooooooof. Lol.
probably working at walmart.
Please tell me she didnt ever get free hair or lash work. 😫 😂
Hell no! Lol
Are u talking about my sister in law?! Lmao! Sounds just like her😂 all that money to get her cosmo license only to ruin mine, my other sister in law and mother in laws hair, both her daughters hair and then finally fired bc she couldn't keep clients 😂 took her 7 hours to bleach my hair and I had to tone it myself- one application! Then I had to repair it myself and cut off the damage- my MIL had to cut almost all her hair off! It was awful!
maybe she had to have the job bc of school or something. She probably didn't wanna work there lol
No, it wasn't. I know many people that went to that school and some that worked there. It definitely wasn't a requirement. She wanted a job there, she clearly didn't want to WORK there though lol
what lens do you use on your camera the quality is insane x
Sigma 30mm
@@styledbysamvay thank you my angel you look so gorgeous and glowing x
