- We are close to firing up the Mazda RX7 once again! This little 13B is going to sing with this half-bridge engine. but before we can get even close to starting this thing up. We need to get all the engine wiring and chassis wiring knocked out. As well as route our Oil cooler lines. Heat control is huge with these rotary engines as they run super hot. So we are running X2 Setrab Cores to help keep oil temps where they need to be.

When you think about it you completely built a rx7 and it will be more reliable than stock. That’s wild 💪💪

Rotary engines are inherently unreliable no matter how you build them. They sound awesome and rev high but unfortunately they have their issues.
@@silviodante5829You’re wrong. If you build it right they can be insanely reliable. There are rotary engines with 200k+ miles.

The last oil cooler set I helped set-up used cores about half the size, but we also shrouded them with pull fans and high pressure air relief flaps. The fans ran off a thermostat that was placed just before the first cooler. That was a red FD about 25 years ago. The reasoning was he drove a lot of time attack, so coming off the track hot and coming to a stand-still or too slow was getting the oil super hot.
Those fans help a TON when coming to a stop to let the car cool down. Definitely worth adding one if you have spares sitting around 🔥

For the most part we’ve already got all the nitty gritty details all worked out 💪
17:34 you can also flood the car. Temp value > “x” = increased injector duty cycle. You’ll be able to see it being flooded on the afr gauge if you get spicy
Good to note, I have a haltech CAN Gauge in there so we should be able to keep an eye on everything 🔥

You mentioned catch cans. Does a rotary suffer from blowby? Never crossed my mind. Good video
Not too bad I’d assume but we only pull to the catch can from the filler neck 😅
Better lock tight those grounds or put locking washers cause they will get loose

Hey Tanner, why is it that rotaries need catch cans? I mean they don’t have a crankcase, how does their PCV system even work?
Just like piston engines you can have some compression that gets past the side seals. The compression can really only go to one spot. And that’s through the oil fill neck. So we just run a single -10AN breather hose to vent it 🫡
cancel the glass guys, get the inside dialed in first. Gives you space to work in. Just a thought. Kudos.

Went to a car show today. Sadly, the 2 rx7's and 3 rx8's were not rotaries anymore😢. I respect your dedication T👍🏽. Really like the coolers look in the FD. She's gonna be a fun eargasmic hell of a ride!

RANDOM UPDATE!!! i have hopefully found a way to have good control in my fb rx7. I will be swapping the stock rear system out for a ford 8.8 rear diff solid mounted, cv axles attached to subaru hubs. Everything should line up and all but the diff should bolt up. The diff will need its own subframe. This will hopefully remove the binding issue from the rear end.

@@Smeedia itll be interesting to do! The goal of doing this is to improve handling and allow better adjustability. Lots of aftermarket support for gear ratios in the 8.8 and lots of brake options for the subaru
