We took apart a Hayabusa engine to find out how this tiny engine is capable of deadly speeds… and then tried to put it back together. Easy, right?

Now, put this engine in the Chang Li, and make a 200hp sports mini truck. That's the only logical thing to do at this point.
It has to be done.
The Daaaaaaaaang Li
The only option. It must be done!

Came to comment this!
Jerry out here sabotaging the bike to have an excuse to make it better. We on to you bruh and we appreciate it.😂
it was probably already cracked and thats probably why they initialy disassembled it
No from the looks on his face he didn’t do that on purpose lol 😂
@@jamesfair9751 its call TV. The face of the actor on CornHub are also fake! if you think this is real... poor you🤦♂️
@@1nicube I think they already knew because I didn't see them putting in all the gaskets. It's mostly theatre in this episode. Why pull a motor apart and then do zero work on it, and just put it back together?
@@andoletube exactly!
It is a fast bike because of how it looks, that was Suzukis entire goal. The body fairings were extremely aerodynamic.
That’s not entirely correct bud, you still need the HP and torque on an engine and a light frame for that engine to sit on also as established before looks have nothing to do with the speed of a vehicle the ricer community in the car world has demonstrated that flawlessly that cosmetics have no effect on how the car performs and what truly matters is how much power you have at the wheels and how much weight you have to move when driving/taking off from a complete stop and often times “aerodynamic parts” can often slow down a stock vehicle with low horsepower and low torque but given the bikes engine has 175 hp and the bike is light there’s enough power to get it to 200mph!
THIS WAS MY BIKE!! Can’t believe you guys got your hands on it! I have video proof on my channel. I had so much fun on it, it was my first “super sport” motorcycle. *EDIT* ALOT of Time & Money spent rebuilding that bike cosmetically and mechanically.
It was very run down when I purchased it from its original owner.
can’t wait to see what you guys do with my old girl! 🤞🏻🤟🏻
Can confirm he is telling the truth
Daaang! Ur lucky u get to watch ur own build dude.
they cracked that motor tho. Good think they’re rich and can make it a beast again
Wow you weren’t lying
@@fafscape9961 I’m shocked, I sold it to an older gentlemen, was sure he’d keep it, and now it’s on donut media. Mind blown! Lol
Donut media pls pin this comment
These boys are scary good at creating ads.
I genuinely end up smiling after watching them.
Because Donut Media as a brand supports Valvoline which supports Israel, I will no longer recommend a single video from your company. Think of your decisions!!!
I still skip them 🤣
it's so far beyond UA-cam channel ads. Some good real broadcast, TV, commercial scale now.
they reimind me of late 2000s adds that youd see on tv
Shaboingboing riding SO hard right now
1:00 - Actually, the looks have a lot to do with its ability to reach 200MPH. When Engineers were designing the Hayabusa, they were looking to achieve the most aerodynamic body panel designs possible. It's designed to slice through the air as well as encapsulate the rider in a pocket virtually eliminating any drag that's otherwise seen on other less aggressive body designed bikes. Now while the engine is a fast revving high power output platform, it by itself can't achieve 200MPH. The body design is needed to coincide to make the fastest 200MPH speed happen. So the statement our Host made about it being very fast is done by the engine and not the looks, is inaccurate.
We neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed more bike content on Dounut please
I love motorcycles but they're boring. You can't drift the motorcycle "competitively". The modifications are super easy. You can make a whole video about it.
Bro we just wanna see cool bikes..
@barouqa there are competitive drift events for motorcycles though💀 nvm I lied I'm thinking of something else
Wrong channel
Would be cool if they learned what a crankcase and block are, tho
Jerry’s talent as a 2 wheel operator is always impressive
smoooooth operator
Thats his bread and butter. When he first joined Donut he was there for nerd talk and never really showed love for cars like he did for bikes. Then he got his own episodes with bike themes and his spark showed.
During coronavirus these two were put together to make tool comparison videos and they became close there. Warching that series you can see the chemistry grow and now these two make for a great host pair.
Less impressive is not knowing the name for a crankcase and calling the block 'the cylinder'
@@mycosys when you work on bikes and cars things get mixed sometimes. Such a minuscule detail to bitch ab
hell no! he does NOT have a clue of what he is doing, on the other hand, Jobe is a good mechanic with brains.
My old GSX-R 1000 K6 blew my mind when I found it had 8 throttle body plates, independent throttles, 8 fuel injectors and it never went wrong as opposed to my new bikes that had constant issues. Suzuki are so underrated ❤️
Finally a motorcycle video! I’ve been waiting for it for years. As someone who’s rebuilt quite a few single and twin cylinder bikes I actually really appreciate you all showing the work that goes into it. It’s very cool to see the insides of the hayabusa and Jerry did a great job explaining and showing everything. Please let him do more bike videos in the future! I’m so glad it finally happened.
I feel that Jeremiah’s the Conan O’Brien of Donut.
That feels like an insult to Jeremiah these days.
@@Hybris51129 I meant Conan as in when Conan had the Late Night show on NBC, not whatever he’s doing now.
Or did you mean the Brian O'Conner from FnF 1 movie where he thinks a whole lot of Nitrous >>
1: Will fix all his problems and he will suddenly be unbeatable
2: Listen to a bald dude that's a supposed expert street racer and it will magically explode in a colorful flame?
@@shawnkiller90 nah I mean as Conan O’Brien who used to have Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.
@@concernedcitizen2766 you missed the joke but its ok mah dude.
My older brother had Hayabusa with a new exhaust and small turo setup. A Normal law abiding drive from muskogee Oklahoma to Tulsa is about 30-40 minutes.. He made it back before me in 18 minutes and was waiting at the turnpike exit for awhile until I showed up. This bike is unnecessarily fast but I'm not complaining 😅.
If you have to get the rods through the holes again in the future, tie some decently long strings onto each. Thread the strings through the hole then drop the top back on. You can use the strings from above to pull them straight up with no hands getting sandwiched inside. Edit: Exactly like you ended up doing with the chain.
'ave ya got a tutorial on how to suck eggs too , geremie?
Or built the engine up upside down like its meant to... but they are just fucking around and will rebuild it the proper way for sure
@@tituskoreman1565 Oh yea..FOR SURE they would rebuild it off camera the right way...
totally!
🤣
These kids working.
@@CWar8747 Working on... ignoring cleaning the pistons while they are out of the block..Or ignoring all the build up and slapped them back in 🙂😂😂😂
Where's the update we need itt
I went to school to work on motorcycles. I studied the 4 big japanese bikes but never got too far when it was time to work at a dealership. Better hobby than a career if that makes sense. Whenever I fail at car related mechanics I'm going to remember this video and feel a little bit better about my technical prowess. Love you boys
Pity you werent there to tell them what a crankcase and block are
@@mycosys Lmao it's understandable. Car engine terms and motorcycle engine terms always trip me up and I mix them up from time to time lol. Lowering the cylinders over the pistons and conrods practically killed me lmao. I got shit at my dealership because I didn't debur new piston rings OR use a sleeve tool to install new pistons and scratched the cylinder on my first engine rebuild there. Shit was so embarrassing man lol.
@@PastelBlackBunnyI went to school for bikes also. Harley Davidson early and late model, Yamaha and Suzuki. I never went to work for a dealer either. I love working on engines, transmissions are fun too. Mostly I just build bikes at home. Sometimes repairs and flip, other times full custom builds. It keeps me from ripping up my personal bikes to often. Passing my 87 sporty down to my son. We are finalizing how he wants it then we will do a ground up build on it. Already rebuilt the engine and converted the trans to a 5 speed.
@@jkosh2046 That's sick! Where did you go to school if you don't mind me asking? And noice. I had a little obsession with shovelheads after my classmate brought his in to work on lol. I've since stepped away from bikes for now until I can have my own garage for one as well as my car projects lol.
Just FYI. Stay away from the Harley-Davidson 1970s American bowling company production line when they purchased Harley-Davidson and no offense to anyone. But it was a very difficult motorcycle to work on with the American bowling company and even now trying to find parts for those years of Harley's. Good luck
love watching more bike content. Keep it comin boys!
I have a GSX1100ef 16v. Which is the grandaddy of this engine. Vance and Hines hit the first 200mph pass using this engine. The Suzukis have always been special. A turbocharged Busa is a weapon beyond belief but can be reliable. Mental engines.
Donuts media creation team is nothing short of amazing. The creative ads they come up non stop are fantastic.
So stoked to see bikes more often here. Such cool machines
Same I really hope they keep making more of them
couldn't agree more
Keep doing these videos please! Jerry and Jobe y'all do a hell of a job explaining how things work and make it far less daunting for a timid like me to get wrenching.
Disappointed to hear Donut repeating the same ol’ urban legend of this bike doing “well over 200mph”. It never did that, “Gentlemen’s Agreement” or otherwise.
The highest recorded top speed for a stock production Hayabusa in its heyday was 194mph.
Busa engine is either going in the Chang li mini truck or the mini bike. Either way I’m stoked!
I had one in the early 2000's and it was so hard to ride at low speeds. But in a straight line it was second to none! Very fun and scary bike. I ended up with a RF900 instead
Needed grease the other day, I picked Valvoline just because of donut... And it was the same price as my next option lol.
Was starting to wonder why you guys didn't remove the bucket and shims from the valves or mic out the cylinder out of round amongst other things. Great set up video for a full power sports engine tear down and rebuild.
Great episode lads 👏 👏
Absolutely love the motorcycle content. This isn't a car channel, it's a speed channel 🎉
Excited to see the swap, I just got a 79 fiat x1/9 and have been looking at engine swap options for the (probably far) future. They only make 70 hp or so stock so a Hayabusa would be a night and day difference
You've got a golden engine in the x1/9, you just need to put some work in it to make out the potential it has
A busa motor in that little thing would be sick bro
If you’re looking at an engine swap, Honda K-Series, the Fiat Multi-Jet or Five Cylinder Turbo from the Fiat Coupe might work.
Build the world's fastest go kart using a Hayabusa engine!
This needs to go back in the bike! I’d love to see a track day with it. It would be cool to see a somewhat dyno comparison between stock numbers and aftermarket
Tune the hell out of it and see how fast you can get that hayabusa running was my thought too...
@@tigerman1978 BORING. Been done thousands of times. All over UA-cam already..
These things aren't really meant for track days; drag strips are more where they shine. They're not very fast around a racetrack.
Donut never disappoints when it comes to ads, original 🙌
I’ve wanted to do a Suzuki Carry Hayabusa build for a long time. Engine on display in the bed with an LSD chain drive. Rocket bunny kit, and you get to keep it in the Suzuki family. Pretty much a sequential shifting jdm monster go kart. Would love to see it.
Cboys kinda did that
It kinda looks like an Oni mask, if you think about it 🤔 hence the grotesque look
If I get a biking license, I would definitely love to experience one of these behemoths.
Yeah, i though the same, very 3 eyed Oni
Well that was anti-climactic! I wanted to see it run and before I knew it, it was the end of the video 😢 looking forward to seeing the next installment of this project! Hopefully soon!!! 😂❤
this is why our dads never come back with the milk. they do burnouts on it in high power motorcycles
Yes!! More motorcycle content please! I need this on real mechanic stuff
I think the ad for Valvoline was about as professional and good as it couldve possibly been.
Hats off to the Donut team
This bike have bigger engine than my car😅😅😅, I am using Volkswagen golf 1.2
I love the idea at the end. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Also, not to piss in anyone's cheerios, but whoever told you that a 'busa would go "well over" 200mph with the limiter removed was wrong. That first gen might INDICATE over 200mph on the speedometer but you won't be going as fast as indicated. It takes modification on any busa to hit an honest 200mph. Once you complete your build, I'd love for you guys to use GPS or radar and show your new top speed. 😁 Please?.... I've had a couple of Busas and I really want to see this.
After googling I see like most experts you might be sort of correct, depending on where you move your goalpost. Looks like its not getting it to 200MPH in the mile, but plenty seem to think that if you gave her a little more room to stretch you can touch it.
@@gmailisaretard I disagree, and have owned and ridden Busas for years. A Gen 1 would top out at around 192 and a Gen 2 at about 195, maybe 196.
Nope 190-192 at best. Zx-12 was faster at 194-195 distance didnt matter@gmailisaretard
This was painful
Takes motor apart, puts it back together. “This is why tiny engine can go 200mph”
Jeremy Clarkson loves this bike and engine. As experienced in the Hovervan episode.
Blackbusha - Jeremy Clarkson
9:34 "Anything that just slips off, is not supposed to just slip off"
I rebuilt an anniversary edition and then I didn't like riding it. It was comfortable to sit on but felt too big for the twisties... now I'm in my 40s and let's say I value the size and comfort of the busa a bit more 😂😅😢
Getting old grandpa
@TheInfantry98 you're not wrong lol. You see the new bmw m 1000 xr? I've got an s1000rr and I'm kind of eyeballing that thing like, "I'm not going to a cruiser, but that ish I could get down with" 🤣
Walt Disney World used to have a big production where they showed how they filmed fact car chases and spectacular tricks. They used these small very loud custom cars powered by Hayabusa engines.
Put it in the Miata!! Always love seeing tiny sportscars with powerful, high revving motorcycle engines. It would be dope and pretty unique. Would love to watch a whole series or at least mini-series on doing this swap
Only issue is it would actively make the miata weaker, and they've already put tons of money and work into the miata.
Moore Mafia got his hyperbusa to hit 200mph in the quarter mile
From a dead stop... the Hayabusa is unlike anything else
Even the twim cam 150cc (found in the satria & gsxr150) is scary enough 🤣
Back in the day this bike was pure death. I know a few people who died on this bike. Engine was ridiculously powerful with Akrapović exhausts reaching almost 200 hp. That was 17 years ago.
this channel is the only channel i dont skip ads on, i actually look forward to seeing them
13:20 intrusive thoughts kicked in
The looks are function over form - yeah its weird and blobby but the aerodynamics are extremely good, especially for their time. Aero on bikes is wild, the aerodynamic drag on a bike with rider is somewhere between a pickup truck and a full articulated truck cab. There's a reason world record speed bikes are full bubbles.
“Hmm why isn’t this cylinder going on” upside down😂
The Hayabusa is one of the most docile feeling motorcycles I've ever rode. It's a sports tourer at heart that's capable of high speed...but there's nothing particularly scary about it. It is a linear power delivery, super stable, and you're sitting behind a very calm pocket of air due to excellent wind protection.
Those are insane motorcycles. I still love how they look.
Are Zac and Jerry wearing a Rolex's in the workshop? Hulk and Deep Sea respectively? ultimate flex if they are.
I own an 05. Best most reliable bike ive ever owned. 35k on the clock and i bet the valves are still in spec. Fires right up every time. Ive lowered it and made some adjustments. Tightened the gap on the plugs to about .023 and it runs crisp after about 2k rmps. Ill keep playing around with it. Best bike to learn on because its over built. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I bet these engines could get 100k if taken care of.
This is why this is a beginner bike easy to ride and it’s a bike you’ll grow into
Full rebuilt engine!
MAKE THE THING FREAKING POWERFUL!
Watching you take the engine out reminded me of doing that on my Honda CB900F back in the '80s...
Having only a very bare set of tools, I removed the fairing and all the engine bolts, laid the bike on its side, on a duvet on the grass...
And lifted the BIKE off the ENGINE!
Oh, the terrible things we do when we're young and broke!!!
soooo where is the sequel to this video?
Jerry's incompetence is so entertaining....
Seeing the engine middle block get put on upside down and pounded down 😂😂😂
The first thing my father taught me when I started dismantling bicycles when i was a kid is that the material is always right and if it doesn't go in properly it's not with force or with a hammer that will make it go in.
Idgaf what people day bikes are the best. Half the cost, double the speed. Super fun to work on, and easy on the eyes. 4 wheels moves the body, 2 wheels moves the soul.
I remember , 1 time, rebuilding a motor, finally intending to attach the clutch, only to find the entire crank shaft was back to front.
If I could have drilled a hole for the push rod thing - I surely would have.!
I really would love to see that carbon cleaned
When you do ads like that, you don't skip them. You end up wanting more.
No turbos just a straight breather of a motor!
You need to replace the gaskets lol
Jer with the James Cameron Deepsea Sea-Dweller. So badass.
Actually they did not limit the 1999, they limited them the following years not the 1999 first version. At least in Australia they didnt ,they topped out around 310-315km 190-192mi, stock.
I watched them forget to put the timing chain on the crank, then saw them trying to put the cylinder block on upside down, and then removed the pistons. ( you can use an open ended ring compressor to make it easier) but I was laughing the whole time lmao. Good job guys
186 mph = 300 km/h for those who are more metrically inclined, lol...
This bike was legendary back then, and still plays that part well today. The engine alone is just NUTS!
Try using ring compressors next time you install the cylinder block. MUCH easier!
I used to build injectors (massive hydraulic machines for coil tubing) and the brake system is literally the same as a hyabusa clutch. A bunch of clutch & metals plates between plates, 8 screws and springs that get released by a hydraulic ram. I am a millwright and always wanted to work on cars more and bikes. Good to know that some things translate between my job as a millwright and my wanting to work on cars n bikes more
The Peregrine Falcon is also the fastest bird and, animal in the world I believe. With a diving speed of 240 MPH.
*Edit: I believe to be the fastest animal.
Ive seen a valve that impacted a piston look fine with the naked eye, and the piston it hit was cracked in two. Crazy
Yes all for the MOTORCYCLE CONTENT!! I owned a new 2005 GSX-R 600 and then went to a 2007 Triumph 750 Special Edition. Look it up - it was Black and With Gold fleck paint, gold forks, lots of torque! It was a masterpiece back then. Total impulse buy when I was 24!
That Valvoline, truck or treat commercial, was by far the most car guy thing I've seen lol
that Valvoline commercial was amazing lol
The upsidedown cylinder block got me... 😂😂
When he found that starter gear and let out that "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW" I felt that in my bones
I like how ron weasley gets all the stupid liness.
slap a turbo on that thang!!
If its Gen 1 you can keep bore and stroke factory spec but if its a Gen 2 busa you'll definitely want to lower the compression a tad bit. Other then that if I was building it I would also swap out any moving parts with either oem or upgraded aftermarket components.
Damn seeing a donut ad while watching a domut vid is the first time i havent been annoyed when a ad played😂 plus it only lasted 5 seconds
I like how Jeremiah is just casually wearing a $15K Rolex (Sea-Dweller?) throughout this video.
And wait, is Jobe wearing a $20K Rolex Sprite?
probably the only youtube ad that i didnt skip, good job donut
2:36 that way of describing throttle response is so accurate (and unusual) ...
I must say that was the coolest ad I saw a youtuber making
I rode a MK1 Hayabusa for many years.
It definitely a wild hog to ride, it's merciless!
But truth to be told anybody shows respect to a Hayabusa and its rider no matter what..
Both Honda B18 and Hayabusa use thee same diameter piston @81mm. I was amazed as It’s still a 1.3L, little baby rods pack a punch.
the hartley V8's using the cylinder heads of hayabusas are nutty.....its crazy how a small turbo and this engine can put so much power into a small package.
Jer is wearing a Rolex Deepsea. That's a brand new Kia Rio on his wrist. Donut must be doin, great!
in my car the piston and value *did* indeed become friends, with the value permanently imbedding itself into the piston, true love
Put this engine in a go-kart shopping trolley
The Valvoline commercial made me think about the Blood Drive series.
I love how this channel takes well-built masterpieces and goose off in the garage
Smoothest ad for the smooth engine functioning 😂
I LIKE THE IDEA OF MAKING IT EVEN BETTER AND PUT IT IN A KEI TRUCK
put the busa in the jimny, roll credits
