You should do a video where you actually degree the cams. Especially like you said, after you rotate they're always slightly off. Should be able to pick up some free horsepower by dialing in the cam timing. I know that would require a much higher spec build with adjustable cam gears and higher lift more duration camshafts.
I have an 08 WRX and only have 90K, been sitting in storage for 3 plus years due to deployments...I also just pulled the trigger and statrted to mod for power on stock block got the BB500 with e-85 pushing 440 on mustang dyno.
@@Smeedia got the BB500 just incase i wanted to go up on HP in the future, I know Im going to need the internals done and maybe go with IAG short block in the future, but for the time being Im happy where im @ especially cause I live in CALI. Thank you for all your content by the way, made some good decisions on relaibilty mods and accompanying mods first to get the turbo and the E-85 kit put in without a hitch.
From what we’ve seen for Stock motors OEM head bolts seem to be a bit better. The car ended at 29ish lbs. But like I said this is obviously not an idea set up 😅

@@Smeedia I bought a 2013 sport tech sedan STI with problemes...did the oil change 3 weeks ago. I had the same exact problem... itsn't the filters suppose to be hand tight? ... I was swearing in french/english... I also should i watched more videos, my j-pipe is non catted... the 02 sensor trips the CEL light all the time. I thought the cobb acessport would give ma tune to bypass it, little did I not know since 2022 cobb no longer support maps that trick emissions.. I gotta go to my tuner here in Quebec (Lachute Performance) Sadge my friend :( Also I didnt know that its bad to have a after market air filter + j-pipe together regardless of whatever map Since It creates too much boost that it can damage the engine or worse blow it up? He said in order to have those 2 combinations I would need to get a westgate and some other mod in order for it to work properly

The tunes are dialed now. It’s the poor axles that will shit the guts out. Although the stock ringlands are not gonna withstand any knock. But that’s why I bore to 100mm after this and run forged pistons. But let’s see how long she lasts.
Axles should be solid in this, unless he’s launching the car HARD (which he shouldn’t be in a stock motor too often) the axles should hold up for a bit

It’s definitely a lot safer, the real factor of how long they will last is how the car is driven and taken care of. I’ve owned multiple stock block cars at 450whp without any issue on em 💪
Personally I think high HP stock block builds are the way to go with the EJ. The built motors dont last that long anyway imo and you can pick up stock sti short blocks oem new for like $5k.
It’s def a gamble, but if you wanna have some fun with the car . Why not use the engine you’ve already got in it and enjoy it for a bit. Used stock blocks don’t sell for much so might as well get some fun out of em 😅
@@Louzahsolehhhhh, can still take out an engine built for 650 at 450, I always advise building an engine to the power goal you want. Specs and clearances may be set differently. Fuel types, boost levels etc dictate a lot

Mustang dynos read lower than Dyno jets. so there is a standard 13% Conversion to take mustang numbers and convert them to Dynojet #s. Dyno jet is more industry standard than mustang.

I have hundreds of stock motor customers at this point at 500+whp. It’s obviously hard to keep track of all of them and mileage but I have several examples going on 1-2 years and 50k+ miles without issue. One example I will point out is a 21 STI I tuned at 5k miles with a original engine and 6466 combo, made 696whp @ 32PSI and is still living to this day 2 years later and is now at 60k miles on the engine. Ownership will dictate 90% on how long something like this will last, treat it like a racecar and it will break like a racecar

As a Subaru owner I just work on it myself and somehow run into problems every time so the fact you did this so fluent I respect it
Unfortunately they be like that sometimes, once you’ve done enough of them you figure out how to navigate the issues pretty easy

We never really use adjustable cam gears and if we do it’s pretty rare. Ext time I have a set come through I can do so 🫡

It varies from car to car but everything’s flat rate for what I do. Typically if engines are coming out or getting broken down it’s around $3750

Normally for stock location FP Blacks are my go to. Good response, good power band and all the turbo sounds 😍

I understand with E85 it's more safe to avoid detonation and destroy the engine but 500 torque it's going to bend a rod for sure pretty quick !😮
I have made 700+wtq on oem Subaru rods.😂 Placement of the torque is key

Build it for 650 and tune it to 450. It will still be a monster but it’s gonna be a lot safer

What's the piece of plastic you're using at 12:01? I'm assuming it's to not pinch the timing belt while tightening these screws?
Correct, I forget the size off the top of my head. But the thickness of the plastic is OE Spec for Gap. Just makes it easy to set clearance

Stock head bolts still, for how long it will live. That really depends on how it’s driven and taken care of. Stock motor cars are a toss up

I’d like to know how long the owner can run a build like that with that much power.. let’s say the owner drove it with respect and occasional rips.
A year or two maybe longer. So many variables to put an accurate number on it
I have hundreds of stock motor customers at this point at 500+whp. It’s obviously hard to keep track of all of them and mileage but I have several examples going on 1-2 years and 50k+ miles without issue.
One example I will point out is a 21 STI I tuned at 5k miles with a original engine and 6466 combo, made 696whp @ 32PSI and is still living to this day 2 years later and is now at 60k miles on the engine.
Ownership will dictate 90% on how long something like this will last, treat it like a racecar and it will break like a racecar
