It's worth mentioning that Keychron does sell a lot of enthusiast-tier switches, including Inks and Box Inks, Aliaz, CJs, Oil Kings, multiple variants of original Gaterons (including yellows), a lot of weird Kailh variants, and normal stem Kailhs which are oddly difficult to find over BOX Kailhs. Along with some cheap but acceptable keycaps in Cherry and OEM profile, you can easily just go barebones and get those all in one package from Keychron themselves. Even a lubing package if you really wanted to. They surprisingly have it all.
awesome video! It's awesome to see how far keychron is going to make everything more accessible but better switches are a must. I really love this layout, i need to get it soon
i just love this video, all infos needed besides its duration, i still pray for similar videos like this one in brazil, which is really hard accessible mainly for the shipping difficulty, tysm for your content
There is actually a custom/kit board with a similar layout in "interest check" called the Calice. There's also an "open source" 75% Alice called the Adelheid. I don't think either of them have a knob.
First off, loved this video and your personality - kinda reminds me of Hipyo Tech in a way! Second, not sure if I want to get a Q10 mainly because I wanted to get a case that was slightly more colorful, but I suppose that is what colorful keycaps are for! Any-who, great work! Excited to see more videos!
it’s weird that this is essentially a keyboard channel, but the audio is extremely borked. especially since half of keyboard channels are usually sound tests.
the glitch was in live effects while recording in OBS. when i do sound tests, i turn off all effects. Something in my effects is causing the splitting, but i can 10000% confirm that none of my sound tests are effected. I record on a AT 2020.
... it's just ... like ... there's a little space ... right below that 'home' ... and there is no 'end' key ... and ... and i'm just thinking ... _come _*_on_* !
Loved the video! I just had a quick question, what is the name of the key cap set you have on the white keyboard around the 0:28 mark (the one with the colorful bottom row accents)?
I’m buyin the Q10 for christmas fr, I really fw the keycaps u used in the video so I just wanted to ask on what website u got them? U really made that keyboard sound amazing and Imma cop the honeycomb switches too ongod.
they have force break pads already in there, but its worth adding some extra to completely eliminate the ping. These days though, my daily driver ergo board is a weikav record alice. look into it, you may like it more.
a high end board will have better materials, better manufacturing, ideally a more unique design (boards at the lower price range tend to play it safe), a more refined sound signature, maybe an expensive gimmick like an LCD screen, absolutely better plate options/manufacturing, and an overall higher level of quality. There is still a difference between this kind of board and a $250+ keyboard. In the same price range, I would say the QK series boards are better feeling and sounding than this, but what this one offers is an incredibly unique layout and solid quality for a decent price. So, no this board is not top tier in quality, but it absolutely hits the marks it needs to, especially if this layout speaks to you.
Also, one thing I recommend for keychron boards is to do your own force break mod. (With like 2 layers of masking tape around the screw holes) Keychron has their own force break mod with their pads but when you screw the case together they’re squished together which kinda defeats the purpose of the force break mod.
Modern Stabs really only need 205g0 to be perfect. Factory lubes are already enough nowadays. Pe foam and Tape mods have been done to death and already come included with most modern boards. I'd be curious to see what you and other content creators come up with for content going forward because everything seems pretty much good to go out of the box or close.
Fully agree. This has been a huge issue amongst keyboard youtubers - how do we keep it interesting? Many creators like glarses and squashy have had a lot of success by making keyboard for big creators outside of the space, but for smaller channels, that's not really a viable option. While i play up the crisis in this video for laughs, it is a serious issue :/ There is still innovation in keyboard content like Avi and others, but for the most part, its hard to find interesting things to do outside of reviews and modding. The last few months most of my videos have been about either really weird keyboards, custom paint jobs, or products I at least find interesting for some reason or another.
there are ergo boards that have the full right cluster that a TKL has, there aren't many of them, but they exist. This might be the closest in terms of having enough programmable keys on the left and right,. you could set it up to have the functionality of a full TKL + it has the f keys. Up to you though, this board is probably the easiest to get your hands on that is close to what you're asking for. Long winded answer to a simple question, haha.
I'll be getting mine soon but I think I'll be removing the rubber material pads for their force break. Keychron not making gateron yellows available for their Q series is something I find quite strange to this day
They don't get it, some of us WANT to mod the damn things, stop modding them for us Keychron... seriously people can't have hobbies nowadays. In all seriousness i'd appreciate if they sold the parts separate for cheaper
Interesting take - i think the keychron boards are more for casual mechanical keyboard fans. if you want to do heavy modding, i would look at other companies that make custom enthusiast boards. there's typically a solid baseline of quality, where you can mod if you want specific sounds or feel. keychron kinda HAS to implement these mods, because without them, the board's baseline is not so great and they would get bad reviews. Does that make sense? its just my theory of why its like this. but yeah i'd check out some other boards. if you're cool with losing the f row, i really fuck with the weikav record alice, good price + needs some mods to sound good and is very adjustable, definitely put some work into the board to get mine sounding great beyond just putting in keycaps and switches. i like it a ton
do you know where i can find split spacebar keycaps? or if i can use other keys instead of the split spacebar like shift or something? because im kinda lost rn edit: also preferably any european shops if you know any
GMK/other keycaps spacebar kits. It will be a kit of solely spacebars that should cover your needs. These keycaps (NK Taro) had the spacebars I needed included, so i would just make sure there are split spacebars included in the kits you buy. all of the Novelkeys PBT sets will cover this board, for example.
i mean, there's always been rounded profiles and the stock keychron keycaps arent the same profile or color. so i don't think it's fair to call them clones. they still suck though haha.
I have a short about them - but already soldered them into my custom painted board from a few videos ago! so you could watch those two if you want my thoughts on them :)
You are sooo cute, and you have a new subscriber :D I started to get interested in mechanical keyboards, So now I'm collecting information for my first mods :)

Keychrom is actually starting to include Kailh and other gateron switch options on the earlier Q series boards
no more keyboard videos :(
How does this compare to the Keycron k11 low profile natural Alice type keyboard? thank you.

Keychron is amazing. That's a great board. And I like your modified version of it. It's not a colorway I would have tried. But it looks great!
