Piroshki are small pies. This time filled with meat or jam. Always remember to cook salty ones before sweet ones. Sweet ones like to fall apart in the oil and spill contents.
Soviet style piroshki (пирожки) with Komrade Kat
Ingredients:
For dough:
50g yeast block
50ml warm water (30-60°C)
100g unsalted butter
85g sugar
half teaspoon salt
300ml milk
600g flour
For filling:
400g beef minced meat
salt and pepper for taste
1 boiled egg
some boiled rice
For cooking:
1 liter sunflower seed oil. Can use some other oil if needed.
Serve salty ones with mayonez and sweet ones with milk.

I can't believe Boris made me want to cook more than anyone else has in my life.
Same. A random Russian UA-camr has taught me more about cooking than my mother ever did. She isn't a bad mother, but she is just pretty old (40 years older than me) and overwhelmed by a lot of other issues. And Boris' Chebureki are now one of my new favourite dishes.
Boris makes cooking look fun and easy. Trying to learn it from my mom always resulting in so much bogging down with measurements and things I didn't even know existed and constantly having to stop to clean, but doing things the Boris way makes it enjoyable and accessible.

So, I didn't see a comment with the full recipe. I've made this before with slight alterations and really enjoyed it! Here's the recipe from Boris.
SOVIET STYLE PIROSHKI with Ground Beef
Life of Boris Recipe
Serves 10 - 12
Dough:
3 tbsp yeast
4 tbsp warm water (86-140°F)
7 tbsp unsalted butter
6 tbsp sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 ¼ C milk
4 ½ C flour
Filling:
~ 14 oz ground beef
1 large white onion
salt and pepper for taste
2 boiled eggs
½ C boiled rice
(Add other ingredients as desired: Corn, Carrot, Peas, Potato, etc.)
Melt butter and set aside to cool. Mix warm water and yeast together. Allow the yeast to grow. Combine melted butter and milk. Add salt for taste as well as the sugar. Then, gradually add in the flour while slowly mixing the butter-yeast mixture. Allow the dough to proof for 1 hour.
While the dough is proofing, coat a pan with oil. Mince and brown the onion. Add the ground beef to the onions and season with salt and pepper.Brown and season the ground beef with pepper and salt. Boil carrots and potatoes, cook rice, etc. Make sure everything in the filling is cooked and soft. Mix all ingredients of the filling together.
Next, flour a cutting board and take out proofed dough. Cut in half and roll it into a log. Cut out even sections. Flatten the dough to your preference and put filling in the middle. Make sure each piroshki is flat and blocky, not circular. Having a longer, flatter piroshki will make for even cooking.
Fill a pot with oil of choice (though sunflower seed oil in preferred). Heat oil. Use a spar piece of dough to drop into the oil and, once the dough ball rises to the top, then the oil is hot enough. Cook 1 - 2 piroshki at a time, though reminder that each time you add another one in, the temperature of the oil drops, so I suggest you do 1 at a time. Make sure each side is cooked to a medium brown color before removing from the oil and placing onto a paper towel lined plate. Allow to cool before serving. Optional; serve savory piroshki with mayonnaise and sweet ones with powdered sugar and honey (or condensed milk).

Man, Russian girls are truly amazing. Recently I got a bit attached to a Russian girl, a Ukrainian girl, and a very slav looking German girl (probably part polish or her family is from the lost lands). And damn. I always liked Russia and Eastern Europe in general, but i swear, if I would have gotten into a relationship with any of them, I would have become a full-on slavaboo. But seriously, now I couldn't decide anymore between a model in the making (Russian), a perfectionist artist who reminds me so much of my own flaws, which I am strangely quite into (Ukrainian) and a cute beer lover (perfect for parties and just quiet, love-filled tipsy evenings) (German and Polish/far East German).
