      Why didn't you just load black in your sewing machine and satin-stitch it? (If you're going to sew the bias tape down, anyway)

I like to show the mistakes too, I remember how intimidated I felt when I was starting out, watching these perfect flawless videos of these awesome quilters that made me think I'd never be able to do it.I hope I can help someone realise that perfect yt videos are just a matter of practice and good editing and everyone makes mistakes and that's kind of fun too! 😁

    I made a stained glass quilt very similar to this, but with batiks. I did it as Quilt-as-you-go. It won a ribbon at the quilt show!

  • @digging4roots
    @digging4roots Місяць тому +21

    I have a tip: I learned to make something very similar to this back in the 90's. The black bias was added to each block before sewing the blocks together.

    • @seweasybysandy
      @seweasybysandy  Місяць тому +1

      That might help but wouldn't it make ot harder to match the black? wonky as I am I'm pretty sure you'd notice all the connections

    • @digging4roots
      @digging4roots Місяць тому +1

      @@seweasybysandy It would only help with the parts that go into the seams when sewing the finished blocks together. However, you could do it at the same time you sew each set together. In other words, sew 2 pieces together, add the strip, repeat. It's been a long time since I learned this method. Granted it wasn't while doing a crazy block. But I think it's still doable as quick piecing. If that doesn't make sense I'll try to explain in more detail. (Old lady here.)

    • @digging4roots
      @digging4roots Місяць тому +3

      Forgot, had another tip. After making your 2 cuts, slightly pull the piles apart from each other. From one stack, move 1 fabric at the top to the bottom; from a 2nd stack, move 2 fabrics, and from the 3rd stack, move 3 fabrics under OR the bottom layer to the top. Then sew. You will have perfectly mixed blocks.

    • @seweasybysandy

      @digging4roots it does make sense, thank you 😊

    Hi Sandy 👋 ☺️!! I have a king-size bed. I used "jewel tones" fat quarters batiks. I used the stack and slash method. After the 1st slice, rotate your top fabric to the bottom. Then sew a 7/8 of an inch black strip to each layer. Then, another slice somewhere else in the block. This time, rotate the next 2 layers to the bottom, etc. Sew your black strip to each layer. This method grows your block. I continued until the desired size. I used an 18-inch template for the desired square. In the end, it looked authentic. Love your videos. Thank you for your enthusiasm. 😊 ❤

    I like precuts also. With the price of quilting fabric as high as it is now, (way overpriced, if you ask me) a precut is a great way to get a semi-good sample of the fabric line.
    I have noticed over time though; the layer cakes are really starting to skimp on the impact fabric and you're always going to get more cuts of the more basic fabric.
    They do that hoping you will buy yardage of the impact fabric.
