Thank you so much for highlighting these scam sites. I’ve been struggling lately with my work being stolen and sold on many of these sites. We don’t have DMCA in the uk and so far I’ve been unsuccessful in trying to get my work removed. These sites are almost clones of each other they are so similar. I just feel so worried for people losing their money and getting nothing in return and would hate them to think I have something to do with that. Will share your video to my viewers so more people can be aware 🌸
I'm glad we have the DMCA takedown, but the process is still tedious. Though it is better than nothing, it doesn't remove the psychological toll of having your work taken. I've had friends who stopped designing completely because they were so discouraged by their work being stolen. It is hard! I've heard stories of customers going to the original designers asking for customer service on these scam patterns and products... it is maddening! All we can do is be aware, look for the red flags, and not be in the big hurry I was when I put in my order. 😭

I was genuinely hesitant about sharing, since it is pretty embarrassing that I was tricked by one of these sites ... when I've spent hours trying to get my own stolen content off sites just like it! But, if my embarrassment can go towards educating our community so we can shut them down for good... I'll take it!

I was almost scammed by someone asking to buy one of my quilts. They wanted to send me a cashiers check for my quilt and then they messaged later saying they accidentally wrote a check for $600 extra, could I please cash it and send them the difference. Big no no. Apparently a cashiers check can be faked and you’d send them the extra from your account. Bummer.
Oh, yes! Lots of these types of scammers prey on artists, who are so excited to sell their art. It is really cruel. Glad you caught on before they ran off with your money! ❤️
I got scammed last year by a fake Etsy shop. They listed a good (but not incredibly good) price on a layer cake I wanted. After my order, I got a notice with a shipping date, and then a follow up saying there was a delay. Then lots of comments on the Etsy shop of people with the same experience and others commenting it was a scam. Etsy gave me a full refund, so all was well, but scammers come in many forms. So frustrating.
Oh no! Etsy is good about protecting customers, and shutting down (at least some of) the scam sites. It really is like playing whack-a-mole, and they also get some legitimate businesses accidentally shut down in the process, which is tough! 😭
They're really God at it! They'll use the original creator's images or videos, and add a filter or mirror it to try to trick the AI copyright detectors on sites like Facebook. 😭
I don't understand why they couldn't just sell theirs without using another company's name. They couldn't even take the time to change the cloth color.
I don't know? Maybe they're counting on the word of mouth or reputation of the other? Or they are so used to creating fakes, they don't realize they could just... make their own? It may be that they know that quilters/stitches spend money on our hobbies. They don't understand the hobby enough to be original, but they want to sell to us...

If it doesn't really look too arbitrary of a name, I go with my gut. Again, I really appreciate you putting this out there. I was thinking about it after I ordered... I got the 2 different cross stich adve to from one shop. Shops don't usually carry 2 competing products. Then I went and looked at the site... LOTS of varying inventory on a very generic site with no "About" or social media... so I searched the products I bought, and found the one I showed in the video for 4x as much on Etsy. Obviously, I'd bought the cheap/scam version. 😭 I thought about canceling the order, but I was curious what (if anything) would arrive in the mail. When this showed up, I thought I might as well share... a learning moment for me can hopefully teach a lot more folks. ❤️
Do you know what the purpose is for a FB page to show a quilt, say that everyone was telling them their quilt was ugly? It was their first quilt, so they needed encouragement or maybe just quit. I will use Google lense if I want to look for the pattern name. Lot's of times, they have taken the picture from Pinterest.
I have only purchased Patterns, online - instant PDF download... I have not purchased product online...I would rather shop in a real store...if possible...
I wish that were true. But if it were, I would have been up front about it. I would have said "I've seen these scam sites and I always wondered, so I ordered a real and a fake to do a comparison." And for a minute, I did consider pretending that was the case, and filming the video as if I had "planned" it. But what would be the value in lying? Anyone who knows me will tell you that's not how I operate. Dad always told me - tell the truth, it is easier to remember. ❤️ I don't think it was convenient to get scammed. I bought 2 cross stitch advents from the scam site (the blue and the green). And I managed to find the genuine version of the blue one on Etsy... but have had no luck tracking down the genuine version of the green one.
