    How on earth did Gladys and Vernon make such a beautiful human being? He is so different in every way than others. And when you add his gorgeous voice, movements, charisma, energy, you really get perfection ❤

    His poor momma. She hated every bit of that & stressed about him nonstop. Imagine having the most talented human being as your son & then he gets drafted into the army. It breaks my heart to see a family so close get torn apart under such stressful circumstances.

    As an Army vet that was on tanks, always cool to see footage like this. What is even cooler is, Elvis looked and acted the same way we all did when we went into the service. Just a guy,a little scared of the unknown, doing his duty as an American.

      Looking back, I think going into the Army then actually helped Elvis' career. Not sure Elvis' popularity would have kept up at the same level had he never been drafted.
      A good pt you make about his acceptance of being drafted during success. Not to paint too broad a brush, but not sure I can picture successful baby boomer, Gen X, Millennial, or Gen Z types giving it all up to complete two yrs of military service?

      Couldn't agree more... Totally unnecessary n as the daughter of a career military officer I'm shocked they allowed private press on base at all... The military had it's own press corps there... I agree that , even if the military wanted to foster goodwill, being filmed in such an invasive manner was totally inappropriate! I would imagine , maybe not in 1958, but today if this happened ... N I don't think it would, all the other troops filmed would have to give consent to be in the film....

    • @Embracing01
      @Embracing01 11 місяців тому

      He did, that's the biggest mystery for me about Elvis, where the hell did he get those looks from because to me he did not look like a normal human being, no human has such a perfect shaped nose, cheekbones, eyes/brows, chin etc, and it doesn't matter if you're black, white, caucasian, chinese, indian, etc, everyone has a flawed face, but he didn't, his face was like a work of art sculpted from stone. It's like he wasn't human or was of a different race of human that we don't know about. Elvis is often likened to a greek god of the statues of Apollo, but they were supposedly myths, but looking at Elvis with his striking resemblance to them it makes me wonder whether they actually existed. But how do two random white American's people produce a child that grows up to look like a statue of a greek god? lol.

      @@kay8698 That is the way the new Elvis movie tells it but it's not actually true. He was never forced to choose between jail or the Army.
      Elvis had to register for the draft at 18 like everyone else and then he got called up for duty. He probably could've gotten a deferral, because he was the primary breadwinner for his family and his fame caused a lot of problems while he was in the Army, but he decided to go ahead and serve his time like everyone else.
