Hello from England Watching this rare film of Elvis at just 23 years old. Even in this film he had something "EXTRA" and he had that "SWAGGER" I was only 12 years old when he died, my birthday being the day of the funeral 18th August 1977. Its sad that he did not have the chance to visit the UK and tour. There are many "STORIES" as to why and we all have our own opinions about Col Parker but he had many fans here and i am sure he would have loved it
I must have been something to see him performing his army duties. I have loved Elvis since a child. Strangely I think of my mother when I see him she whould always exclaimed something with a smile when he was on screen.
IKR, those are jail issue mattresses! But you have to remember he grew up poor, I don't know what he slept on, but they had a hard time. Also, he was healthy at that (army) time.

Well these days its very rare to have a superstar in uniform. The Army wanted to make sure people didn't think the draft sucked. Elvis was a liability for them. If he disappeared entirely during those two years rumors would pop up.

Certainly the higher ups. Elvis was already the biggest youth star in the world. So they wanted to create the impression that rules of behaviour were followed. The draft was already controversial so having the biggest star look somewhat comfortable while getting the standard treatment could alleviate some of that. Obviously it was awkward for the guys on base. You can see it on their faces. But they needed to make sure no one assumed the worst about Elvis and his time in the army.
I feel sorry for all the young men and women that had/have to endure this because of stupid old men.The young man next to elvis had his high school jacket on.😔I wonder if some of them were killed in Vietnam
